Chapter 54
The first thing Jungkook felt as he woke up was a body tightly pressed against his own and a head smushed against his chest.
Not being used to this at all, he let out a little gasp and kept his eyes on Taehyung's adorable sleeping face: his long eyelashes kissing his cheeks and his lips forming into a little pout as he inhaled and exhaled stably.
And then, Jungkook sneezed.
"What the hell?," he asked to himself quietly, only now realizing how much his throat burned and how he could barely produce a tone with his voice.
And as if that weren't enough, his nose felt extremely cloggy, so cloggy he could not draw breath through his nose.
His little sneeze seemed to have woken Taehyung up, the brunette's eyelashes fluttering and him shifting on the other's chest. Eventually, he opened his eyes and rolled off Jungkook, letting out a short yawn.
And then, he started coughing.
"Oh no, I think I got sick," he mumbled in distress, holding his hand in front of his mouth. His other hand went towards his forehead, feeling the temperature. He let out a gasp at how high it was.
"I have temperature! Jungkook? How are you feeling?," he then asked, his voice raspy and extremely groggy from his new sickness and the fact that he had just woken up.
"Shit. My throat hurts. My nose is clogged and now that you mention it, I do feel a bit hot," he reported, Taehyung's eyes widening.
"Shit, we must've caught a cold yesterday!," he exclaimed as loudly as his throat let him.
"Damn it, we should have asked for some medicine yesterday. What am I gonna tell my mom-- Oh shit."
He then realized he had not contacted his family at all after yesterday's party, they must have been worried sick!
"Give me my phone please, Jungkook. I forgot to tell my family I'm staying here. Oh no, no, no. I'm so stupid," he rasped and sank back onto the bed, pulling the covers over him and covering up his face in shame.
"Hey, hey. You're not stupid," Jungkook mumbled groggily, his hand searching for Taehyung's hand beneath the covers. His other hand searched for the older's phone underneath his bed until he remembered leaving it in the living room yesterday.
"Your phone is in the living room, the battery is probably empty. Um, take my phone instead, I hope you memorized the number." He reached out his own phone for Taehyung to take.
The brunette thanked him and took the phone, dialling his sister's number as his mother should be at work right now.
"Come on, Taeha. Pick up," he whispered after the fifth ring.
"Who is this?," his younger sister asked firmly only a few seconds later, him letting out a breath of relief.
"Taeha, it's me."
"Taehyung! Finally, where were you last night? Mom and I were worried sick! And why does your voice sound so shit, did you have a massive karaoke party yesterday?," she rambled, sounding a tad upset.
"Uhh... I...," he stuttered, making up a fake story inside his mind.
"At the party yesterday, I got super wasted and it made me feel really shit afterwards. And to make things worse, I... had a fight with Jungkook. And afterwards, it was so late, he decided to bring me home with him since it was too late to take a bus." He tried to sound as convincing as possible but knew that his sister wasn't one to be fooled easily.
"But you went to the party with Jimin, I thought he had a car! Did he just leave you there? What an asshole! And that still doesn't explain why your voice sounds like someone dislocated all your vocal chords!," she exclaimed, Taehyung biting his lip to search for yet another excuse.
"No, uhm... Jimin was wasted too. He passed out and probably slept at Ruo's. And, well, our fight was a bit extraordinary? I ran out on Jungkook and he chased me and then I chased him and it rained, so... Eventually, we made up and while going back home to him, I guess we caught a cold," he muttered.
"Hold up, did you just say Ruo's? Your ex-boyfriend who cheated on you and ran off? He's back? Why would you go to his party, Taehyung?!"
Taehyung gritted his teeth, mentally cursing himself.
He let out a short laugh, talking himself out of the truth for a third time.
"Well, sadly. Yes. I didn't know it was his party and we didn't see him anyways, there were lots of people, you know?" He heard a confused sound from the other end.
"How could you not have known it was his party if it was at his house? You went there millions of times, Taehyung! Don't tell me you still have feelings for your ex, I thought you liked Jungkook!"
The brunette really wanted to slap himself, he now knew that he was a failure when it came to lying and making up excuses.
"No, I don't have feelings for him anymore!," he just protested.
"Uh... fine! We went there to piss him off and show him I was perfectly fine without him and that I moved on! I even wore his least favourite necklace and just had fun. And how would you know that I like Jungkook? I mean, I do, but..." He turned red in embarrassment as he realized Jungkook was still lying next to him and just hoped he went to sleep again.
"Tae, I understand but just don't do that again, going to his party unbothered sounds exactly like something an ex with still lingering attachment would do. And well, I'll call mom and explain. Stay there for today if you can and we'll talk about this when you feel better, your voice really does sound like shit. Get better, by the way." She sounded calmer now, making him let out a breath of relief.
"Thank you, dearest sister. Goodbye," he spoke into the phone and hung up, exhaling deeply as soon as the line was cut off.
"Why won't you tell her the truth?"
Taehyung came to realize that Jungkook was awake after all and had just listened to the whole conversation. He froze as he saw his dark orbs observing him just like that.
"I-I can't," he stuttered, fiddling with his immense sweater paws hanging down his arms.
"But why can't you? If you don't mind me asking. You guys are family, right?"
The brunette sighed.
"Uh... At first I was just too scared to tell her. But that's normal, I pretty much couldn't talk to anyone and stayed silent almost all the time. I basically acted like a corpse. When I tried telling Hoseok-Hyung after a few weeks, I had to stop mid-way and, well, Jiminie told him the rest. Since everyone knew we broke up and kept asking me about it, I just told them he cheated on me. Of course he fabricated a little story of his own and told them I cheated on him instead and then he left. Some people still believe him over me." He coughed again, his throat burning because of all the words he had just spoken.
Jungkook stayed silent for a while.
Then, he guided Taehyung's head towards his shoulder, letting him lean on it, and his hands searching for his.
"Did you know that the first step of properly getting over something is telling your loved ones about it? At least that's what I'd say."
The older boy felt his hand get pulled onto the other's lap, burying his head deeper in Jungkook's shoulder and sighing.
"But there's no need, I'm completely over it alread--"
"No, Tae. You're not." The ravenette smiled sadly, seeing the frustrated pout on the brunette's face.
"But... What am I supposed to do? Tell them? And who's going to believe me, they're just gonna think I want to start unnecessary drama."
"I'm not saying you should tell the whole school. You're right, our school is filled with lots of fakes who don't even know the seriousness of that particular topic. But I mean the people you care about and the ones who love you: your sister, your mother, your trusted family and friends. They'll support you through this and believe you, or they wouldn't be your family," he spoke lowly, coughing aswell.
"I... Uh, I--" And in that moment, the door barged open all of a sudden and a hectical Kim Seokjin stood inside the room, still wearing his pink pyjamas and his cute sleeping mask.
"I thought I heard coughs! You two caught a cold, didn't you?! I should've given you some medicine yesterday! Or I should've made you take a hot bath togeth-- On second thought, maybe no. Anyways, I got you some chicken soup. It's hot. Don't you dare spill anything on the bed, Jungkook. You'll have to do the laundry then!"
The ravenette rolled his eyes at that.
Balancing a tray with two steaming bowls on it into the room, the oldest smiled sweetly, particularly at Taehyung, his hand feeling their foreheads as soon as the tray was placed on their laps.
"Both of you have temperature. You poor things! I'm gonna come back in a few minutes, with a thermometer."
He then exited the room with another sweet smile, leaving a smiling Taehyung and a still concerned Jungkook. The ravenette grabbed a spoon, tunked it into Taehyung's steaming bowl and brought it towards his mouth.
"Here. Eat," he said gently, holding the other's chin and pushing the spoon into his mouth. The brunette blushed furiously, immediately protesting after swallowing:
"I can eat by myself, you know? I'm not the only one who's sick here and my hands are functioning just fine!"
"Your sleeves are so long, I'm afraid they might be a bother. Besides, you're the guest here, you deserve special treatment." Jungkook fed him another spoon of warm chicken soup lovingly, feeling super giddy despite the fact that both of them were extremely sick.
"But-- Okay, whatever. Thank you, and don't forget to eat your own soup!," the brunette squeaked, Jungkook's nose scrunching at his cuteness.
Since Taehyung didn't protest, the ravenette kept feeding him, occasionally slurping some soup for himself when the other reminded him.
One time, he appeared to be a bit clumsy, spilling some soup onto Taehyung's hoodie.
"Oh no, I'm sorry," he spoke hushed, running his finger over the little spot that appeared to be right above his abdomen.
"It's okay," the brunette answered, grabbing Jungkook's hand and moving it away from his stomach, not knowing where to look.
"Your bowl is empty, by the way." The ravenette grabbed a tissue and ran it over the corners of the older boy's lips. Taehyung felt his heart close to bursting, not once had anyone taken care of him like that, not even his own mother.
"Thank you. You really didn't have to do that," he spoke gratefully.
The younger boy chuckled. "I wanted to." And then, he did something neither of the two of them had actually expected: He pecked Taehyung's lips sweetly, making the boy gasp and widen his eyes.
Jungkook himself was surprised at his own doing, his cheeks turning rosy and his gaze cast downwards.
Why did you do that? You're so embarrassing! Not to mention, you have a damn cold...
However, he changed his mind as Taehyung suddenly decided to grab his nape and lock lips with him. All the complications they had just felt, they could not remember them in this moment.
Both of them closed their eyes slowly, not even realizing what they were currently doing. They weren't even committed to each other yet, weren't they supposed to be friends? This was the second time they had lost control.
Something they also did not realize was the door slowly opening behind them.
"Oi! None of that when the door is closed! For god's sake, kids. You're sick, you should be resting!"
