Chapter 39

The class had been walking for five minutes already when Mr. and Mrs. Lee suddenly came to realize that all of them had forgotten their luggage.

So, everyone had to rush back to unload their whole baggage.
Clearly, the supervising teachers had not thought this camping trip through enough, heaving tons of luggage around the woods to find a good picnic spot definetely wasn't something everyone, no, anyone enjoyed.

And on they went, many students out of breath quickly since this particular action was definetely messing with their energy and they swore they could hear their tummies burst with hunger slowly.

Taehyung had it especially hard, only minutes after carrying around his heavy trunk, he could feel himself panting and sweat forming on his forehead.
Obstacles like pebbles or little twigs in the middle of the path made his journey even harder.

Jungkook, who walked right next to him, not excessively suffering, looked at him with a concerned face.
"Need some help with that? We could switch our suitcases, mine's much lighter than yours."
Taehyung shook his head, not wanting to appear as a damsel in distress.

"No... it's okay-- Ouch!," he screeched, his feet tumbling over each other due to a small rock in his way and him landing on his knees with a harsh impact, the handle of his suitcase slamming into his lower back.

This is what happens when you don't pay attention to where you're going, Taehyung!
His shoelaces had untied themselves and his knees probably had bruises on them. He hissed in pain, cupping his knees.

"Taehyung!" The ravenette immediately abandoned his own suitcase and went down on one knee to take care of the older boy. He took the brunette's hands and caressed them softly, with his thumb.
"Are you okay? Are you bleeding?"

"F-Fine. Maybe we should switch suitcases after all...," Taehyung whispered, making him smile slightly.
"Of course. See, you should always listen to me!"

Still holding the brunette's hands, Jungkook lifted himself into a squatting position.
"Can you walk? Or should I tell Mr. Lee to let us take a break?" Taehyung shook his head, experiencing an inner turmoil in combination with his heart fluttering.

"I just scraped my knees, I didn't break them. I'll be fine. B-But thanks, for being... concerned." He lifted himself up again, a bit unskillfully, internally groaning as he saw that his shoelaces were untied.

Without any further words, Jungkook lowered himself again, his hands tying Taehyung's shoelaces quite adeptly.
The older boy just watched him with wide eyes, feeling his face heat up and his brain ask him one single question over and over.

Am I in a romance movie or something? Why is he being so sweet to me? Stop!

There was an indescribable tension in the air, both of them holding their breaths as Jungkook tied his shoelaces slowly on purpose and Taehyung just watched him, completely mesmerized by the way he was taking care of him. Normally, the brunette didn't like people trying to help him constantly, it made him feel like a helpless child. But somehow, Jungkook was different. He actually wanted to receive the younger's help.

As soon as he was done, the ravenette lifted himself and held out his hand to help Taehyung up.
"All done. Let's switch suitcases now, we're kind of behind. And tell me when it hurts." The older nodded.

And on and on they went.

For Jungkook personally, the other boy's suitcase wasn't that hard to carry. Significantly heavier than his own but not something he was struggling to handle.
But maybe this was just his abnormal strength talking.

For Taehyung, the journey became much easier, the younger's suitcase was quite heavy but in his opinion, nothing in comparison to his own one.

After about fifteen minutes later, Mr. and Mrs. Lee stopped the troup of students dragging their suitcases along with them.
"Students! A quick change of plans, we just got a brilliant idea!"

The students groaned, definetely not trusting either of the married couple to actually come up with a good plan anymore. But nevertheless, they stopped in their tracks and looked at their teachers with glares on their faces.

"This would be an amazing place to camp! So we came to an idea: You guys can leave all your luggage here and we can have our picnic on a mountain and then come back here, there's one nearby. The scenery will be phenomenal! It will only take us a good thirty minutes until we arrive on top of it! So please leave your suitcases here and follow us!," Mrs. Lee shouted, the students looking at her with a confused face.

But soon enough, they shrugged and placed their suitcases wherever they would be able to find it again and followed the couple that was now heading towards a steep path that was obviously leading towards a mountain.

Taehyung felt highly anxious, silently lining up Jungkook's suitcase to the other students' ones and taking small, insecure steps.
He had not been exposed to big heights for a long while but the bare thought of having a picnic on top of a mountain definetely made him feel a bit queasy.

What if he had altitude sickness and would throw up in front of all his classmates (and Jungkook!)? What if the mountain was so high it would make him have a panic attack? He just hoped the mountain would be at a low height but judging by the steepness, it would probably be very... anxiety-inducing.

"Hey, you okay?" And of course, Jungkook had to check up on him when he was in the middle of an internal crisis.
He just nodded softly, his anxiety now mixing with giddiness and tingles everywhere.

"I remembered you're scared of heights. Are you going to be fine?" The gaze in the ravenette's eyes was sincere, he almost looked worried.
Taehyung's heart jolted.
He remembers?

He just shrugged. "I hope so, I just haven't been up a mountain for a long time. Just... yeah. I don't know."
The younger smiled sympathetically.
"You're going to be fine, don't worry. If you feel scared, try not to look. Look at me instead."
Taehyung's heart jolted again, this time harder.

Look at me instead. Those words had such a big effect on him, it actually concerned him. His insides felt warm despite the still cold weather.
"Thank you, Jungkook. I will."
He smiled, unintentionally.

The two of them kept walking, the steep path making it hard for both of them to not get exhausted quite quickly.
But after a while, Jungkook started talking again, suddenly remembering something:

"Soo, my Instagram comments?" He smirked.
Taehyung's jaw dropped, him almost halting in his step and his face turning as red as a ripe tomato.
"Oh my god!," he squeaked, covering his face with his hands. He had completely forgotten about that.

"I'm so sorry about that! We were playing Truth and Dare and I was kind of drunk and chose Dare and just-- God, I'm so sorry! You must think I'm some kind of creep or something, I'm so embarrassed," he apologized frantically, avoiding the other's eyes forcefully.

He heard the ravenette chuckle from beside him.
"Cute. Actually, I thought it was quite endearing. I'm flattered, really." He sent a wink towards Taehyung who immediately turned his head at the unexpected response.

He expected Jungkook to make fun of him but he most certainly did not think he would actually appreciate the highly suggestive comments.

He's probably just teasing you.

"U-Uh... I hope you don't think I'm weird or anything now, I promise you, it really was a dare and--" The younger interrupted his stuttering with a simple nod.

"I believe you and I understand, don't be so worried. I found it cute, really. Now, stop being embarrassed about it, 'kay?"
Jungkook held in his desire to flick the other's chin playfully just watched him nod shyly, letting out a giggle.

The two of them reached an even steeper path now, the students groaning in agony as hiking up a mountain was definetely not one of their favourite activities, many of them were very out of breath.

Quite hesitantly, the ravenette held out his arm for Taehyung to take, the older boy complying, flustered. He didn't know why the younger suddenly offered him to take his arm. Was he worried again? And why?

And so, they continued walking the path up with their arms linked, which kind of made them look like a shy, awkward yet still sweet couple.

And a good fifteen minutes later, they finally arrived at the top of the mountain.
While walking up, Taehyung did not notice how high up he actually was with Jungkook distracting him very nicely but as he looked down, he felt extremely uneasy. Like he was going to suffocate.
He flinched as he saw a hand right in front of his eyes, calming down as he saw the owner of the hand.

"Don't look down," Jungkook advised.
"Just try not to, looking down will only increase your panic. Remember what I said earlier?" He smiled at the older boy who was now feeling calmer, his heart full of gratefulness.

He focused his gaze onto Jungkook's hoodie for some reason, black with an inspirational quote printed right into the centre. Very fluffy-looking and he definetely wouldn't mind wearing it. The font was not too big and not too small, in cursive letters it said...

"Hey, Taehyungie! You okay? We didn't know this picnic was going to be on a mountain but I'm guessing we can't change anything about that. Do you feel sick? Or panick-y? And did you guys have a good time?" All of a sudden, a redhead boy popped out of nowhere and stood right next to them, wiggling his eyebrows.

"Yeah, we did. Thanks for checking up on me," Taehyung spoke, looking extremely grateful to see his friend.
"It's a friend's duty to check up on each other, duh. Hey, mind if I borrow Taehyung for the picnic? We have lots to discuss." Hoseok looked at Jungkook apologetically, the ravenette nodding politely at that.

In the background, he saw Namjoon and Yoongi look at him with very expecting faces, smiling at their reaction and turning towards Taehyung one last time for the picnic.

"See you soon, then." The brunette nodded, waving his hand slightly.
"See you."
