Chapter 37
"Tae! Over here!"
A brunette boy, a massive suitcase in his left hand and a big, heavy rucksack slumped on his back, approached the rusty-looking, but very full bus stop, pearls of sweat forming on his forehead of all the weight he had to carry. His brown, messy locks hung right in front of his eyes, swinging around and bouncing at every step he took.
Heaving his luggage over the curb, he joined his excited friends standing right next to the trashcan, whyever that was.
"Hey, guys!"
Placing his luggage on the bench beside him, he pulled both of them into a hug.
Today, even Jimin looked excited.
Of course, Taehyung and him hade made up the same day the 'Jimin-lashing-out-and-Taehyung-crying'-incident happened and they were on best terms again, which was nice for all three of them.
"Sooo, you guys excited? None of us have ever gone camping so this is the first time for all of us!," the redhead of the group screeched, clearly looking forward to his first time sleeping in a tent.
Both Jimin and Taehyung nodded, definetely excited as hell.
"Students, gather round! The bus will be coming soon, when we arrive, we will take a walk and have a picnic in the mountains. Then, we will find a nice spot to set up our tents. Please collect all your luggage and store it into the bus carefully so it doesn't get lost! This is going to be a wonderful trip!," Mr. Lee called, their substitute teacher right beside him. The substitute teacher also being Mrs. Lee, his wife. And their history teacher.
Hoseok locked arms with his friends, squealing excitedly and making the two of them laugh at his excitement.
And as they heard the sound of the bus' roaring engine rush towards them, all the students started cheering.
It seemed like everyone needed a break from all the school stress, a relaxing camping trip sounded ideal to lift their minds from thinking about tests and assignments.
And just then, the bus stopped there and everyone huddled in front of the trunk, pushing each other around so they could be the first ones to load the big, spacious trunk.
Taehyung was very uncomfortable, feeling himself get pushed around and students forcing their way past him. It most certainly didn't feel nice and Jimin and Hoseok were nowhere in sight, he had probably lost them. Damn him.
Standing in front of the trunk, he tried grabbing his huge suitcase to lift it and heave it inside, but failed immediately. He simply did not have the physical strength to do so after carrying it all the way from home, where were strong arm muscles when you needed them?
After a few more tries, he gave up and just decided to wait for the bus driver to check up on him and help him with his very heavy luggage because there was no way he was going to get that anywhere. He internally scolded his mother for packing him so many useless things.
"Need some help with that?," a low, hushed voice suddenly asked beside him, dangerously close to his ear.
Letting out a slight gasp, the brunette turned around and came to face with...
"O-Oh, Jungkook. Hi?" He immediately felt his heart beat a lot faster, and a lot more aggressive. He gave an awkward smile, trying to hide his sudden nervosity.
The ravenette gave a short smile.
"Hi." When he saw Taehyung's still continuous attempts of lifting his suitcase, he frowned and put his warm hand on his shoulder.
"C'mon, give that to me. You're clearly struggling."
His skin feeling like it was on fire under Jungkook's touch, the brunette just widened his eyes and turned away from him, his cheeks burning aswell.
"N-No, it's okay. Don't bother, I'm sure you won't be able to either--"
His jaw dropped as he saw the younger boy reposition himself and lift the suitcase into the trunk as if it weighed nothing.
"You were saying?," he asked cheekily, a smirk forming on his lips as he saw Taehyung's shocked expression.
"U-Uh, thank you." He bowed his head slightly, feeling a bit shy all of a sudden.
Jungkook grinned. "You're welcome."
The older just smiled at him awkwardly, roaming his eyes around the crowd in hope of finding Jimin and Hoseok but of course, luck wasn't on his side and the two of them weren't anywhere to be seen.
To top it off, he suddenly felt someone shove into him harshly and him not paying any attention did not see it in time to avoid it.
Being flung around from the harsh impact, Taehyung shut his eyes close and waited for him to collide with the asphalt of the ground and hoped not to break his nose or his jaw (or his teeth!) from the fall, except that it didn't come.
Instead, he found himself trapped in a warm embrace, strong arms around his waist and his back pressed against a wide chest.
As he turned his head to face the person, he saw two very familiar eyes, looking equally as shocked as him.
Jungkook.
Taehyung was about to freak out, his heart felt like it was going to combust and his legs felt so wobbly he wouldn't even be able to stand if it weren't for the boy holding him.
And he had another déjà vu.
From the time he and Jungkook were cleaning Hyejin's house and silly, clumsy Taehyung was about to slip but luckily got caught by the younger boy.
Is this some kind of fate? Am I doomed?
Or maybe doomed isn't the right word. Is he meant to catch me every time I fall? And the eye contact that we hold? What does this mean? And why does it keep happening?
"Are you okay? D'you want me to go after him?," the ravenette then asked, looking after the random student, who didn't even apologize for shoving Taehyung like that, with a glint of anger.
And quite frankly, the brunette was not okay.
He felt mushy, like he was too weak to do anything. His body felt like it was under a spell, like something had deactivated all his limbs. His heart felt like it was set under fire.
And when little butterflies started fluttering all around his tummy, he suddenly knew.
His feelings for Jungkook were not so friendly anymore. The younger boy had a way of making him feel special. Very special.
"Uh, yes. Everything's fine, just surprised. Thanks, by the way." When he gained control over his limbs again, he pushed himself off Jungkook awkwardly and gave him a nervous smile.
And when he saw him smile back, he felt like combusting again.
That smile. That goddamn smile.
Fucking kill me.
"Umm... I better go search for Jimin and Hoseok. Thank you for helping me with my luggage, see you soon." With a quick wave, he excused himself without even giving him time to answer and took off, feeling the other's gaze burn into his retreating figure.
After walking around the bus a few times, he finally found the two of them standing at the very back of the crowd, letting out a breath of relief.
"There you are, guys! I've been searching you everywhere!," he screeched, very out of breath for whatever kind of reason.
Hoseok and Jimin looked at him with relief clearly written over their faces, they had actually been quite worried.
"Oh thank god. We were worried something happened to you, we lost you in the crowd. But now that you're here, let's get inside the bus and take the best seats," Hoseok ordered, grabbing both Taehyung's and Jimin's hand and walking towards the bus.
They stepped inside, taking three seats at the very back, Taehyung and Jimin taking the last row and Hoseok taking the row before them, turning around so he could rant about how excited he was and how eventful he hoped the trip would be.
And all of a sudden, a new figure emerged, positioning himself right next to the empty seat beside the redhead.
"Can I sit here? Please?"
Taehyung was literally this close to freaking out.
"Oh Jungkook, hi. Of course, you can." Hoseok moved his backpack from the seat and patted it, motioning the ravenette to sit down, which he did with a grateful nod and a small smile.
In the row before, they could see Namjoon and Yoongi huddled together, discussing something while looking at a notebook with serious faces.
They were probably writing a song together.
Jungkook gave a slight wave towards Taehyung and Jimin, Taehyung waving back while trying not to scream and Jimin just giving a dismissive glare.
Hoseok had a mischievous smile playing on his lips, looking as excited as ever.
This was going to be a fun ride.
