Chapter 26

After they were done feeding Yeontan, the two of them made their way towards the bathroom to get some cleaning done.

Admittedly, it was pretty dirty and they had to work hard to scrub the dirt off the tiles, clean the bathtub and the shower, sort the towels and many more.

But after a good two or three hours, they were done and Taehyung was happy to say he didn't accidentally slip once the embarrassing moment from last week didn't resurface.
Even though that moment wasn't all too bad. Maybe.

The two of them were absolutely exhausted and wanted nothing more than to pass out on the cold floor but then decided to find a better solution, which consisted of walking to the kitchen and getting some cold drinks out of the fridge.

Taehyung's throat was burning and practically begging for some liquid so when he finally drank some of his cold lemonade, he almost moaned at the taste. Same went for Jungkook.

After they had gulped down their refreshing drink, they let themselves fall on the living room couch.
And the raven-haired boy decided to start a conversation.

"Hey, Taehyung. I have a question." Said boy lifted his head and looked at him, wiping the sweat off his forehead.
"Huh?"

Also wiping the sweat off his forehead, Jungkook went ahead: "What are you scared of?" The brunette furrowed his eyebrows.
"Why are you asking?"

"You know my biggest fear, so I should know yours."
For a while, Taehyung just sat there with drowsy eyes and parted lips, until he finally gave an answer:
"I'm afraid of storms. Lightning, thunder, heavy rain. All that. And heights. Like, really high ones."

He felt his heart pound as soon as he said that. This was the first time he had opened up to anyone about his fears to anyone except for Hoseok and Jimin. He didn't even know why he told him. Did he even trust Jungkook?
Well, fears weren't that big of a deal, right? Everyone had them.

Jungkook seemed to sense his nervosity. Then again, how could he not? Taehyung was internally panicking and it was very visible.
The younger boy laid a hand on his shoulder.

"Hey, why do you look so anxious? It's nothing to be ashamed of, everyone's scared of something. I won't tell anyone, don't worry." He smiled sweetly, making Taehyung calm down, a bit.

"I think I haven't told you but I'm also scared of microwaves. The day the dog at my mother's bit me, I tried to distract myself by looking at food heating up in the microwave. And when I got too close, it made a really loud 'ding'-sound. I freaked out so hard, I don't even know why. And still, microwaves creep me out. Childhood trauma, huh?" He smiled.

And surprisingly, Taehyung smiled back. "I guess so. My fear has nothing to do with childhood trauma... just... different trauma?"
Oh crap, he wasn't supposed to say that. He could not expose the deepest secret of his life, not now and most definetely not to Jeon Jungkook. He just couldn't.

"Wait... What happened?" The ravenette furrowed his eyebrows and and looked at him dramatically, the blonde sucking in air in response to that.
"Nothing... I... can't tell you. It's a secret. I'm sorry," he said hastily.

"Hey, you don't need to tell me anything. It's okay." The older boy lifted his head and looked at him calmly. No matter what Taehyung had said, some part of him had always known that Jungkook was trustworthy. He just hadn't wanted to believe it, somehow.

"Thanks for understanding." He gave a small smile, making Jungkook's heart flutter again. Was he processing in winning Taehyung's heart? Well, obviously, he was. He just couldn't believe it.

He also couldn't help but be curious and worried about his supposed trauma. It must've been terrible and it had really screwed him over and gave him lifelong trust issues. But he didn't want to be pushy or make him uncomfortable by asking him even more. Even though it had clearly destroyed him.

So they just stayed silent for a while. It was a nice, comfortable silence.

Until Taehyung suddenly remembered something and started talking again: "Jungkook?"
The ravenette's heart fluttered again by the sound of his name rolling off Taehyung's tongue. It sounded so beautiful and endearing.

"Hm?," he just asked.
The older boy repositioned himself on the couch, so that his legs were now crossed and he was sitting with his back kept straight.
"I have a question. You don't need to tell me if you don't want to. But you said those fears of yours were triggered at your mom's house. But why your mom's house? Does she not live with you?"

The ravenette shook his head. "She doesn't. My parents live seperately and I actually used to live with my dad but sometimes I got to visit my mom. And now I just live with Seokjin."

Taehyung tilted his head. "May I ask why?" His voice sounded very soft. He himself did not know why he even asked but somehow, he found Jungkook's backstory very intriguing.

The younger boy inhaled deeply. "I wasn't supposed to happen. My mom was very young when she got pregnant, it was at some high school party. Both of my parents were extremely drunk and, well... things happened. They slept together.

"My dad told me he loved my mom a lot back then so I don't know if it was just the alcohol or if he was actually low-key taking advantage of her drunken state. They actually were good friends. Either way, after that happened, my mom realized she wasn't... exactly into guys. When she told my dad, he was devastated because well, he loved her.

"And when my mom turned out to be pregnant, she was also devastated. She was so young and definetely not capable of raising a child. Not with a man. She thought about getting an abortion but my dad said no. So, she had the baby, me, and had to drop out of high school for a year to raise me. My dad didn't get to see me much. Her mother, who was endlessly disappointed in her, wanted her to complete her education so she sent her back to school and raised me too.

"When I was like three years old, my parents had this huge fight over custody until they came to the conclusion that I would live with my dad and I could visit my mom occasionally. My mom had dreams and things she wanted to achieve so I think as much as she loved me, she still needed some time for herself and I would just be a burden.

"So yeah, she lived kinda far away so I visited her like every once in a week or two weeks. But now that I moved away from Busan, not anymore. And since my dad didn't like the way I acted and thought I needed some disciplining, he sent me here to live with Seokjin-Hyung and learn some manners at my new school." When Jungkook finished his rant, he looked up to Taehyung, who had been listening attentively, a concentrated expression on his face.

The fact that the older actually cared about him sent him a rush of warmth through his whole body. He felt tingles inside him when he felt the other's hand graze his arm softly.

"I'm so sorry for your mom, it must've been so hard. Raising a child from someone you don't love like that. Nevertheless, I'm sure your mom loves you with her everything, no matter what happened, you're her child. My mom had a hard time raising me too." The ravenette perked up his ears.

"What happened to your mom?"
The older boy sighed, thinking back.

"I wasn't supposed to happen either. My mom got pregnant from a one-night stand, similar to yours. But mine was a college student. Luckily, the guy she slept with, my dad, gave her his number before they parted and when she found out she was pregnant, which was about one or two months in, she contacted him. He told her he was on a very serious business trip somewhere and it'd take him months to come back but he would definetely come and see me. What a shitty liar." He scoffed.

"When he actually did supposedly come back my mom already had me, she hired some nannys to help her look after me so she could still go to college. And guess what? My dad pretended to care for her and her baby, me, just to gain her trust and get her to sleep with him again. And after he somehow succeeded, she got pregnant again. No idea how it happened, some very bad luck for sure. And that's how my little sister Taeha happened.

"My mom did hope he would raise me with her together, since I was his kid aswell. But of course, he didn't. I guess he didn't like me. After he impregnated my mom the second time, he disappeared. She didn't even know she had my sister at that time. He changed his number, everything. Not a single trace from him, and honestly? I like it that way. My mom went through so much, raising two damn kids while being a college student... Thank god my grandparents sent her enough money to at least survive." He exhaled deeply. It felt good to open up about his past, his other past.

Even though he didn't know Jungkook that well and for that long, he somehow felt safe talking to him. Hearing his story made him open up about his own story and that was something the both of them appreciate. They could relate to each other in some kind of way.

He could feel Jungkook's gaze on him, his eyebrows furrowed and his head tilted sideways so he could see Taehyung better as his hand rested on his shoulder.
And when the brunette looked back into his eyes, he could feel a connection between the two of them.

They were somehow bonding with each other, over family backgrounds. Something Taehyung would have never expected.

But in this very moment, he felt like...

..."Hey, Jungkook? Maybe we should become friends."

The ravenette smiled brightly, looking irresistibly adorable as always.
Feeling endlessly happy about the fact that he was slowly growing on the other, he nodded enthusiastically.

So that's what they were now. Friends.
