Chapter 21
"So, on to our other task. Let's get to the cleaning now!"
Jungkook nodded hastily, utterly relieved about that dog finally being gone. A small smile graced his face, he wasn't able to believe he got so excited over something so simple and boring as cleaning.
"The supply closet's door broke, could you hold the doors open while I take out all the supplies? Otherwise it will take too long because the door will try to close itself constantly," Taehyung spoke, gesturing the ravenette to follow him to the supply closet.
The latter nodded and gladly followed him through the kitchen, down the stairs, into the basement, next to the washing machine. Jungkook couldn't help but wonder why Taehyung's aunt kept her cleaning supplies so far away from the living room since there seemed to be closets everywhere around the house.
The brunette knelt in front of the little closet and opened its doors, struggling since the knobs were already removed, curse aunt Hyejin for still not having it repaired.
When he succeeded, he gestured Jungkook to hold the doors, the younger immediately complying and getting behind him, grabbing the doors with his two hands and crouching down so he wasn't in an awkward standing or squatting position anymore.
Then he just silently stayed there and watched Taehyung's now very close back profile and the way the older carefully grabbed all the supplies and laid them next to him. He couldn't help but smile subconsciously while doing so.
About two to three minutes after, the brunette was finally done with sorting out the needed cleaning supplies and turned around to tell Jungkook he could let go of the closet doors.
What he didn't expect was for the younger boy to be right behind him with little to no space between the two of them, literally caging him by holding the little closet's doors.
Taehyung was so caught off guard, it was like he suddenly lost all of his conscience and not a single sound came out of his parted mouth.
All he could do was stare into the other's dark eyes, which were already boring into his, as if he were paralyzed. He didn't even want to look away, there was something captivating about them. A little twinkle inside them that seemed to tie him to the other's gaze.
And then, he felt his heartbeat accelerate and his cheeks heat up out of embarrassment for even being so speechless and flustered. Thank god the basement was only dimly lit or Jungkook would've seen his suddenly rosy-coloured cheeks because that was something he certainly did not want.
Why was he even getting so worked up about this?
None of them had moved a single limb since their eyes had met each other, it was as if they were hypnotized. So, as soon as Taehyung forcingly broke the eye contact, he slapped his chest so the other was pushed back a bit.
"Hey! M-Move away, you're invading my personal space!"
Immediately, Jungkook let go of the doors as if they were on fire and took a few steps back, the brunette could see a sheepish grin playing at the corners of his lips despite the poor lighting quality.
He had a déjà vu.
Of their first conversation, which had basically been Jungkook trapping him against a desk. That moment seemed so long ago and bizarre to him, but he could still remember how he had felt during that moment. Offended, mostly.
And of their second study session, in which the both of them oh-so randomly held eye contact for quite a long time. Why did that even happen?
"Uhh... Let's go now," he then spoke to lift the slightly awkward tension, the other nodding enthusiastically and so, the both of them left the basement with cleaning supplies under both of their arms.
"The wood tiles in the living room haven't been cleaned in a long while, there were also some mishaps done by Tannie when he probably played around with food, so I suggest you take the mop while I will work on the dust on the furniture. If that's okay with you." The ravenette nodded instantly. He could never get enough of Taehyung's serious and professional side.
So, the two of them started cleaning the spacious living room, Jungkook mopping the floor, trying not to gaze at Taehyung dusting off the thick layers of dust on each peace of furniture. He thought he looked cute.
It was harder than expected. By mopping the floor, Jungkook really had to keep his balance to not accidentally slip on the pretty wet floor, getting sidetracked by his crush standing only a few metres away from him didn't make it easier.
Taehyung, on the other hand, tried not to sneeze every time a grain of dust entered his nose, which resulted in him holding his breath every time he swung the duster over chairs, tables and closets. Occasionally, little coughs did slip out of his throat despite him trying to cover them up.
After about half an hour later, they had a big majority of their work done.
But the both of them were starting to get tired and needed a refreshment for their burning throats. Cleaning a house wasn't as easy as they thought, especially since Hyejin had quite the warm room temperature. How did she even live inside this house?
Taehyung was the first one to speak up. "Jungkook, I need a break. And a glass of lemonade, be right back."
He put away the duster and rushed through the room to get to the kitchen. But what he did not notice was how slippery the floor was.
So, as he took his third step, his feet slipped on the wet floor and he shrieked, threatening to land rather uncomfortably. He grinded his teeth against each other and shut his eyes close, expecting a harsh impact with the floor.
But somehow, it didn't come.
Why didn't it come?
Because all of a sudden, two arms wrapped themselves tightly around his waist, keeping him in place securely. Instinctively, Taehyung held the person's shoulders to keep himself in place.
Of course, that person was no other than Jeon Jungkook.
Now, the brunette was not one to get flustered easily. But in that exact moment, he could, once again, feel his heartbeat increase rapidly and his breath hitch, not to mention the fact that his cheeks bloomed in a very prominent red.
Just like their other questionable encounters, it was like time stopped and all they could concentrate on was each other and for unexplainable reasons, they did not want to stop.
And just then, he knew he had to admit to something.
Hoseok was so right when he told him that Jungkook was his type. Of course, Taehyung's pride would never let him admit it before but now, he had to. The younger boy was definetely his type and his flirtations and cheekiness had definetely grown on him. And the way the other held him felt very good.
Of course, this didn't mean anything.
They weren't even friends yet, but that was something the brunette was set on changing. He did want the younger boy around him, he wanted to have fun with him and laugh with him.
And he certainly did not want to listen to his subconsciousness telling him to not grow fond of him since boys like him were exactly the type of boys that were not to be trusted.
But that was exactly the thing, he did trust Jungkook and his insecure, little subconsciousness could not change that.
And as he freed himself from the ravenette's hold, stammered a small "Th-Thanks for catching me" and tiptoed his way through the slippery living room with the other right behind him, he came to wonder about something.
What did Jungkook feel about him?
Did he want to be his friend? Did he just want to be his acquaintance? Or did he not care at all?
And while Taehyung thought about the younger's emotions towards him, the latter just had a huge bunny grin on his face for the whole time.
All he could think about was how red the older went when he got caught by him.
He looked so cute. Did I make him blush? Did I really make him blush? Holy shit, this is so amazing!
And so, they drank their lemonade while being sunk in thoughts. About each other.
Now that was a nice start, huh?
