[Chapter 31]: To heal
"(Y/n)? Are you awake?" Todoroki called from outside your door. The only answer he got was a disgruntled groan. "I'm coming in."
He pushed the door open only to have it be stopped midway.
"Hnnnnggggg owie..." You muttered, rubbing your head.
"(Y/n)?" Todoroki sighed.
"Yes?"
"Did you fall asleep on the floor?"
"... I suppose I did..."
He squatted next to your blanket burrito form and ran his fingers through your hair.
"Mmmmm warm..." You purred.
"Why didn't you lock your door after I left?" He huffed.
"I was on my way, but I fell asleep before I reached it..."
"(Y/n), you need to be more careful." Todoroki's tone had turned much sterner.
"Sorry..." You shamefully muttered in response. "I'll try to be more careful."
"I'm not angry, I just want you to be more aware of your surroundings." Todoroki sighed once more, sitting back on the floor.
He thought back to the discussion he had with Satou last night. He thought about how oblivious you were to the dangerous people the constantly craved you. Not that he himself felt differently. But it was different. Todoroki, of course, craved you, but he also saw you as your own person and respected your space and privacy.
"I'll try my best to." You pulled yourself up to sit in front of him. "Sorry for worrying you Todoroki."
The smile you gave him after that drew him in like a magnet. Before either of you knew what was happening, his lips had found yours. It was soft and gentle. Todoroki had brought his hands up to rest against your jaw, the circles he traced on your cheeks with his thumbs only hypnotizing you further. And it was over much too soon for your liking.
"Did you still wanna go on a date today (y/n)?" Todoroki asked. You didn't answer, eyes still closed. "(Y/n)?"
"W-WHAT?!" You gasped, eyes shooting open. "RIGHT, THE DATE! I WOULD STILL LIKE THAT VERY MUCH PLEASE!"
"Alright." He smiled. "Are you ready to go now?"
Eh? Now?!
You glanced down at yourself, realizing that you had yet to change out of your clothes from yesterday. Not only that, you hadn't showered or brushed your teeth. There was even a little bit of dried drool on your cheek.
"Ah geez, I kinda look like a mess right now..." You giggled uncomfortably.
"What are you talking about? You're cute no matter what." He casually replied.
AGAIN, MY HEART!
"IF YOU INSIST!" You yelled, leaping up. " BUT JUST GIMME FIVE SO I CAN CHANGE AND BRUSH MY TEETH!"

"So, do you know what you wanna do today?" Todoroki sweetly asked, taking your hand in his. The two of you walked side by side down your relatively empty street.
"I was thinking we could maybe catch a train to the shopping district! Or we could see a movie, or go to an amusement park, or go to a museum, or eat ice cream at a cafe, or... Sorry, I'm rambling." You giggled. "I'm just really excited."
"It's alright. I think it's cute." He insisted. Once again you couldn't help but blush. "And I'm okay with whatever. I think anything would be fun with you."
H-How can he say everything so easily?
You couldn't help but feel your voice getting stuck in your throat. Todoroki seemed to be falling into things quite naturally, but you were still a ball of nerves around him. Maybe it was because you were still in a bit of disbelief.
"You're cute." You finally managed to get out.
Initiate adorable blushing Todoroki.
"(Y/n), you're embarrassing me..." He replied, eyes cast away from you. The rare reaction had thrown you off. You squeeze his hand and glanced over at him with a bright smile.
Well, I guess he's still getting used to things too.
"How about Harajuku? There's lots of stuff to do there Todoroki!" You cheerfully suggested. He seemed to zone out for a moment, jaw clenched, eyes narrowed. He looked sad. "Todoroki, what are you thinking about?"
He came back to.
"Oh, sorry..."
"No need to apologize." You smiled. "You can tell me about it if you want to. I'm here for you."
"It's just... My mother is at a hospital in that direction."
Your eyes widened at his words.
"Let's go." You simply said.
"What?"
"Let's go see your mom!" You grinned. "Onward to the train station!"
It took Todoroki a moment to realize that he was practically being dragged along.
"Wait (y/n), our date-"
"OUR DATE CAN WAIT! YOUR EMOTIONAL WELLBEING IS MUCH MORE IMPORTANT TO ME!"
"But..."
You came to a stop and glanced back at him.
"Why don't we sit down for a moment."
The two of you found a nearby bench to take a seat on. It was a beautiful day. Not too hot, not too cold. Todoroki was silent for a few minutes but you didn't mind. You just took some time to enjoy the sun and the birds.
"I've been thinking about it for awhile." He sighed. "It's not that I don't want to go. I think... I'm just scared."
"It's okay to be scared. And if you're not ready then that's okay too." You took his hands in yours. "Sorry, I didn't mean to pressure you. I just think sometimes things are easier to face if you have a friend."
"I want to go."
You locked eyes with him, giving a reassuring smile.
"Alright. Let's go."

It's crazy how close she had really been for so long. Just one train ride away. The receptionists looked shocked when Todoroki arrived and asked to see his mother.
"Only family may visit Mrs. Todoroki. Your friend will have to stay in the waiting room." One of them instructed.
Todoroki was about to retaliate until you answered before him.
"I understand." You smiled.
"But (y/n)..."
"It's alright Todoroki. You can do this." You reassured him. "Take your time. I'll be waiting for you when you're done."
You saw the hesitation and nerves flash in his eyes. He was tense. Suddenly, you threw your hands up and shouted.
"And then after, we shall get ice cream to celebrate!"
The escalation in energy managed to shatter the tension in the air. Todoroki once again found himself unable to frown.
"Yeah." He softly smiled, his hand resting on the top of your head. He rustled through the locks gently. "I'll be back soon."
Part of you couldn't help but feel a bit sad that your date had been postponed, but you knew deep down that this was what needed to happen. If your mother was just a train ride away, you'd do everything in your power to see her. You could only hope for the best as Todoroki's figure disappeared down the hallway. The rest was up to him. All you could do at this point was encourage and support him. But it was a position you were more than happy to take.
After all, it takes time to heal.
