Enough

"Doctor Wizdum, your phone was ringing continuously when you were operating." A nurse informed her while she took off her gloves and mask, sighing at the sight of nineteen missed calls, all from her boyfriend, Rudy.

"Thanks dear. Just keep an eye on it while I talk to the patient then I'll be free ok?" She asked the nurse, handing her the phone.

"Sure."

She went to Mr. Williams, whom she had just operated on and smiled to ease the fearful look on his face.

"How are you feeling Mr. Williams?" She asked keeping her pencil and board ready for notes.

"A little pain in the chest, but its bearable."

"The surgery went well. You will be here in intensive care for about seven to twelve days. We will be monitoring your condition and yes, be prepared for some cardiac rehabilitation."

"And about the pain?"

"It will get better soon. Relax a bit sir, we opened up your chest, so of course it will hurt a little. But nothing time can't heal."

After answering all of the questions, she took her phone back and changed into casual clothing, tying her hair up and pulling on her coat. She was ready to go home.

The door to her house was unlocked, which meant that Rudy was there. She headed in, happy to be in his company after long long hours at the hospital. Contrasting to her felicity, he was raging.

"Where the fuck have you been Sam?" He asked upon the sight of only her head and her smile dropped.

"I...I told you about it. I had to do an operation today. Long one." Samantha was always a little hesitant of answering Rudy, worrying that the wrong words would make him more angry.

"Well you bloody fucking could have answered your phone!" He shouted.

"I can't really answer any calls during work." She told him, placing her bag and coat aside and sitting beside him, eyes only looking at the floor, where she saw a couple of cigarettes, already burned out. "I thought you said you were going to quit smoking."

"You give me too much heartache not answering my calls, so I have to smoke." She looked at him with a guilty look and that was when she paid attention to the beer bottle in his hand.

"Not only smoking but drinking as well. Are you mad? How many times have I told you its bad for your heart?"

"Like you would know." He laughed her off.

"Of course I would know. I am a heart surgeon."

"And I am leaving." Rudy said, placing the half full bottle on the coffee table and getting up, walking to the door.

"Hey at least pick up your trash." Samantha called.

"Your house. Clean it yourself." She sighed and started cleaning up. She opened the windows in the process, the stench of tobacco heavy on her.

She never said anything back to him because he recently lost his job for sleeping during work hours. She never said anything because she loved him. She might never have said things to him but her journal was growing red from all her writing about her anger that she never showed her boyfriend. She always had hope that everything would be fine once he gets a job.

The next day Sam called Rudy to ask him if he had time so they could go out and have a little fun. He told her that he was out with his friends but he would be back in two hours so she should be ready by then.

However, two hours passed and three and five and seven. She waited all the while like a loyal lover but he was still out with his friends. When he did arrive to Sam's house the next day, she was really calm about it.

"Hey Sam!" She just sighed and smiled, looking at Rudy all the while he stood in front of her. "Hey I am talking to you!"

"You said two hours." She asked.

"Wherever. Why the heck does that concern you?" He laughed again.

"You said, two hours." She repeated herself.

"I heard you the first time you big idiot. I was with my friends alright?! And you are some bloody daft lass who doesn't know that it would be exactly two hours. Why the fuck are you so literal you ugly bitch?!"

And there went her composure.

"You are so heartless."

"What did you say? Don't make me the bloody villain when you couldn't understand a plain sentence!" He yelled.

"You could have phoned me!"

"You didn't answer it the other day so why should I waste my time?! I bet you weren't really working but talking to that Andy! I have seen you around him more than I should care to notice!"

"Wha-?" She was so done with him now. Accusing her of wrongs and being a double-standard douchebag.

"You know what I mean."

"Now listen here you cunt! Its alright for you to kiss and fondle other girls and make excuses but when I am just talking to a friend, its wrong?! You are always bossing me around like you own me but don't think for a second that I would stay for you if you keep being a bloody arse to me!"

Rudy's attitude shifted the moment he realised that his money source might leave him because of his yelling. "Aw baby I am sorry. I swear that will never happen again sweatheart. Please forgive me."

It did happen again. And again. But then happened something that Rudy deserved. A stroke. He survived it but he was in need of an operation to ensure his health. And who did he need? A heart surgeon.

"I will have you operate me Sam, only you." He told her, faking love in his tone. She looked at him and smiled.

"I won't give you to anybody else but...I have another patient on the day you are suggesting..." She scratched her head with a pencil, trying to fix a sooner date. Rudy took her paper and flung them in the air, scattering them all over the floor.

"Well, reschedule him then."

"I can't really. He has been on wait for longer than a month-"

"Is he more fucking important than I am?!" She was a little taken back.

"But-"

"Cancel that bloke!!"

When she looked into his eyes, she understood the reality of him. He would always be this rude to her, always be this mean and cruel, always be this heartless. No number of apologies would be true and that it would keep repeating itself until she would decide to put an end to it.

She found the perfect blueprints for a breakup.

"Alright. Even though Tuesday's my day off, I will arrange it for you."

"Thought so."

So Samantha did what was necessary for an operation and got her boyfriend on the operating bed, nobody but her in the theatre.

"You are going to put me to sleep now?" She smiled down at him and shook her head.

"This is epidural." Sam showed Rudy the syringe. "It will numb you but you will be awake. We have found out that when patients are awake during the operation, its better for their healing."

"Ok. So isn't there normally a nurse to help you?"

"There is. But I don't want anybody to see you. I will be jealous." She giggled in the end.

"Fair enough."

Samantha got down to the operation, opening the chest and spreading the ribcage to where the heart was visible and easily accessible. She took off her mask and smiled at Rudy.

"You know Rudy, how I said that you were heartless." She chatted. "That was figurative."

"Yeah."

"But I am always a literal ugly bitch." She smiled now, a twisted one, putting away her tools. "So how about I make it true?"

"What the fuck are you talking about you nutter?" He thrashed around but his hands and feet were tied. Samantha dropped her smile and looked at Rudy.

"The sweetest people, Rudy, are the most dangerous when they have had enough."

"What the fuck does that mean?!" He asked, now getting scared as Sam's hands went into his chest cavity and he saw with his eyes his heart being lifted from inside him. His life flashed in front of him as his time-pass girlfriend yanked his heart out of him and threw it on the floor.

"Now you are literally heartless." She smiled at the sound of his heartbeat going flat. "And I am breaking up with you."
