odessa the track star

━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━

ODESSA WAS confident when saying she enjoyed school. She got along with other students in her class, she had at least one friend from her friend group in each class—if not more. The blonde didn't have many complaints about her time at Beacon Hills High—except for one. The Alpha twins: Ethan and Aiden.

The Stone hadn't had the pleasure of meeting or talking to them but the smug smirks that didn't seem to leave their faces was enough for Odessa to decide she wasn't interested in meeting nor talking to them anytime soon.

Another minor reason the girl didn't particularly enjoy school was cross-country. She had been forced to sign up for the school's team by none other than Scott and Stiles, saying she had to do some extracurricular activities. Scott also gave her an added reason that was to help practice keeping her heart rate under control for future full Moons and control in general but Odessa thought that was a pretty poor excuse.

It also seemed she was one of the only girls on the team. Seeing as the lacrosse team was forced to sign up—only leaving her with two other girls on the team that willingly signed up.

Odessa exhaled, stretching her arms across her chest to warm herself up for the upcoming run. It was currently around eight in the morning with classes starting around nine—the morning sun beaming down on the teens. She looked to the McCall next to her, "so, how does this work? Do I use my speed or not?"

The boy let out a short chuckle, "you don't have to use it, Odie," the two boys had started to use that nickname, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of deja vu when hearing it, "this is just for you to get used to keeping control. Plus, it's only practice."

The Stone looked in front of her to see Isaac staring after the Alpha twins in anger, "tell that to him."

Just then, Coach blew his whistle, signaling the group to start running. As most of the group started to run, Scott caught Isaac's shoulder, "Isaac—"

"It's them," the Lahey seethed before running as fast as he could, trying to catch up with the twins.

While Scott yelled for his friend again, Odessa internally rolled her eyes and began to run. As she ran, she began to pay less and less attention to her surroundings. She knew her friends were somewhere running, but she lost sight of them as soon as she started it seemed. She also didn't know the running path at all. So, the blonde let her body take control and run wherever her feet felt like going. It wasn't until she couldn't hear anything, like Coach yelling or the heavy breathing of her classmates, did she snap out of whatever her body did to her. The Stone breathed heavily as she came to a walking pace, not knowing where to go. As her advanced hearing became weaker, her sense of smell became stronger. On instinct, she followed the scent that smelled bitter, like something was decaying. The smell only got stronger until she laid eyes on the smells source. There, tied against a tree by his neck, was a boy who looked no older than she was. He was covered in blood, his skin as pale as a sheet.

At first, Odessa wasn't fazed by the sight of a dead body. But she knew if she didn't react the way a normal teenager would, questions would arise. She knew what she had to do. The blonde looked around to make sure no one caught her initial reaction, took a deep breath and let out a loud scream, echoing through the trees.

Scott McCall let his guard down facing the twins when he heard the ear splitting scream ring through the air. He locked eyes with Isaac, who heard the same thing, and ran in the direction of the scream.

Odessa kept up her act until she felt someone pull her away from the sight of the body. She looked up from the person's chest to lock eyes with Stiles. The blonde let out a sigh in relief of seeing someone familiar so she didn't have to keep acting as scared as she was. Soon enough, more students came running and gasped at the sight of the body. From next to Stiles, she watched Scott come closer to the pair, eyes widening at the sight of the dead boy, Isaac not far behind.

The McCall eyed his blonde friend, who hadn't moved from her spot or lifted her gaze, "you okay, Odie?"

Odessa nodded wordlessly, her expression blank. She felt like she was completely fine, and that scared her. Ever since she got to town, the sight and thought of dead bodies didn't seem to faze her.

"Hey, get out of the way," the teens heard from behind them, "get back," the Sheriff moved to the front of the crowd and started giving orders to his officers, "get this area cordoned off before they trample every piece of evidence."

The Stone jumped at one of the deputies' loud yells, "back up! Everyone back!"

"Get these kids out of here!"

Stiles moved away from Odessa's side and up to his Dad, "Dad, just come here," he guided his Dad closer to the tree, "look, look. Look at it. It's the same as the others, you see?"

"Yeah, I see that," the man turned to his sons' friends, eying the blonde girl momentarily, "do me a favor. Go back to school, yeah," he took a dollar out of his wallet, "get Odessa a water, she looks a little pale. I'm guessing she found the body," his son nodded, "get her and the others out of here, okay? Coach, can you give us a hand here?"

"You heard the man. Nothing to see here," Coach shouted at his students, "probably just some homeless kid."

"Coach..."

"Yeah?"

Scott sighed, "he was a senior."

"He wasn't on the team, was he?"

Odessa dropped her head into her hand at Coach's lack of empathy. It wasn't until she heard the screams of another girl did she lift her head, "Kyle! Oh, God, Kyle!"

Isaac wrapped an arm around the blonde, letting her lean into him. Ever since she brought the Lahey out of his trance at the Clinic, the boy seemed to be as protective as Scott, and sometimes Stiles, was of her. She didn't mind, of course, she just didn't understand how someone could care for her after such a little amount of time.

The three boys and girl finally made their way away from the crime scene and reconvened away from their classmates.

"You see the way the twins looked at him," muttered Isaac, eyes not leaving the two boys in question.

"Yeah, you mean like they had no idea what happened?"

"No, no, they knew."

Stiles wasn't letting up, "the kid was strangled with a garrote, all right? Am I the only one recognizing the lack of 'werewolfitude' in these murders?"

Odessa couldn't help but feel boredom creep in as she watched the two boys go back and forth.

"Oh, you think it's a coincidence they turn up and then people start dying?"

"Well, no, but I still don't think it's them."

"Scott?"

The McCall looked between his friends with a conflicted expression, "I don't know yet."

"You don't know yet?"

"Well, he's got a point," Scott told his best friend, motioning to Isaac, "seriously, dude, human sacrifices?"

The Stilinski narrowed his eyes, "Scott, your eyes turn into yellow glow sticks, okay? Hair literally grows from your cheeks and then will immediately disappear, and if I were to stab you right now, it would just magically heal, but you're telling me that you're having trouble grasping human sacrifices?"

Scott let out a heavy sigh and turned to Isaac, "that's a good point, too."

"I don't care," the boy deadpanned, "they killed that kid, they killed the girl that saved me. I'm gonna kill them too."

The three watched Isaac walk away with determination in his eyes. Odessa turned her head back to the two boys only to see them looking right at her. Her brows furrowed, "what?"

"What do you think?"

The girl stammered, looking at Scott, who asked the question in surprise, "w-why're you asking me?"

"Because you were there with Stiles when he found the first body and at the morgue. I wanna know what you think."

"Well," she swallowed, glancing nervously to Stiles, who was watching her intently, "it's the same injuries as the last three, so it's definitely a possibility. However," she swore she saw the Stilinski deflate slightly, "seeing as he had a girlfriend, how can we be sure he was a virgin? That's the part I don't understand."

"All right, since inertia is a subject of which you all know plenty, why don't we start with momentum?"

Odessa remembered when Stiles and Scott warned her about Mr. Harris. She also remembered thinking that he couldn't be as bad as they described. He was. Thankfully, the blonde wasn't very vocal in class and stayed out of his bad graces.

She sat next to Scott in Chemistry after practice and watched him try to reason with Isaac, who sat in front of them, "they're here for a reason," the McCall whispered, knowing the boy could hear him, "give me a chance to figure it out before you do anything. Okay? Isaac?"

When the sandy haired boy didn't acknowledge anything Scott was saying, the McCall sighed and looked to Odessa who shook her head at him. She didn't know what to do—so she returned her gaze to the front.

"Danny," Mr. Harris called to the boy, who sat a couple rows in front, "what do we know about momentum?"

"It's the product of mass and velocity," as Danny answered, the Stone couldn't help but hear the increasing of Isaac's heart beat from in front of her, "the more massive something is, the faster it's going."

"Mr. Harris, can I use the bathroom, please?"

As Isaac left the classroom, ignoring the annoyed expression on his teacher's face, Scott shot up from his seat, "I have to go to the bathroom, too."

"One at a time."

"But I-I really have to go," the McCall stammered, "like, medical emergency have to go."

"Mr. McCall, if your bladder suddenly exploded and urine began to pour from every orifice, I would still respond, 'one at a time'," Mr. Harris deadpanned, not amused with the boys' antics, "is that enough hyperbole for you, or would you like me to come up with something more vivid?"

Scott's shoulders sagged, "no. No. That's pretty good," he sat back down in his seat next to Odessa, who didn't fail to hide her unimpressed expression.

Class only went on for another minute before the sound of lockers banging was heard from the hallway. Getting up with the rest of the class, the Stone took her place at the doorway with Scott to observe the scene in front of her. One of the twins—Odessa didn't have the energy to learn who was who—on the ground with blood coming from his nose, with Isaac standing above him.

"Isaac, what the hell did you do?"

Odessa walked through the halls of Beacon Hills High with Scott and Isaac after witnessing the latter receive his
punishment. Even though the twins made it believable, Scott and Odessa knew Isaac didn't do anything.

"Don't let it bother you," Scott told his friend, "it's just lunchtime detention. If all they want right now is to piss you off, then don't give in. They're just trying to get to you."

The Lahey looked behind him, "it's not just me."

Odessa furrowed her brows and followed Isaac's gaze, only for it to land on Lydia talking to one of the twins, (she guessed that one was Aiden). Without realizing, her hands balled into fists, her jaw tightened. She had always felt a protective pull toward Lydia, maybe because she was her first real girl friend... ever (along with Allison, of course). She used her advanced hearing to listen to their conversation—it ended with Aiden getting a date with Lydia. It was only when the Alpha smirked in their direction did Odessa step forward—Scott grasping her arm quickly to stop her from getting in trouble as well.

She swiveled around to look at the two boys with a clenched jaw, "what?"

"Now they're getting to you."

When Scott told her about what the twins did to not only Isaac, but Allison as well, at lunch, she knew they needed to do something. Odessa didn't really know what they were planning, but she knew it had something to do with the twins' motorcycles. The girl was more than happy to kick back, relax, and enjoy the show that was about to commence.

"Okay, everyone," Ms. Blake spoke as the class filed into the room, "I know this is the last class of the day. To be honest, I want to get out of here too."

Once the blonde watched Scott smirk at the twins, she knew she was in for a treat. From next to the boy, Odessa watched as Scott took out a motorcycle part from his bag—the twins watching intently.

"Looks kind of important," the McCall raised a brow, bringing out a second piece and fiddled with it, "I have no idea what this thing does."

Odessa bit her lip to prevent the biggest smile as she watched Aiden jump from his seat after hearing the revving of a motorcycle from outside. When the revving got louder and louder, the English class traveled to the hallway, where other classes came out to see the commotion. The blonde, along with her three friends, wore amused expressions as they watched Ms. Blake scold Aiden.

"You have got to be kidding me," the teacher exclaimed, "you realize this is gonna result in a suspension."

Hearing those words, Odessa shot her fists in the air for Scott, Isaac and Allison to bump, and they didn't hesitate to do so.

One word. Darach.

Odessa furrowed her brows down at her phone. She had been texting Stiles throughout the day since he wasn't in almost any of his classes. He told the girl that Kyle was not a virgin—creating a roadblock in their theory for sacrifices. He also told her about the Darach, a dark druid. He didn't really have any other information on the Darach, but hopefully that would change overtime.

Typing a response and a quick goodnight, the Stone forced herself to focus on her homework. It was storming out and she found comfort on Scott's bed while the boy sat at his desk doing homework as well. It was slowly becoming their thing. Odessa would come into Scott's room to ask a question and that would turn into her staying in there for hours on end. Now, she just comes in after school and does homework with him.

Odessa lifted her head for a moment at the sound of a knock on Scott's door.

"Come in, Mom."

The blonde lifted her head again to greet her parental figure but was surprised to see a soaking wet Isaac at the door instead.

The Lahey looked down at his duffel bag nervously, "I-I was wondering if I could ask you a favor."

Scott and Odessa locked eyes, both wide and mouths open in shock. The only thing that went through her head was, am I going to have to share my room?!
