chapter one
welcome to beacon hills

━━━━━━ ◦ ❖ ◦ ━━━━━━

SHE DIDN'T know how she got there. That was the first thing Odessa Stone thought as she strolled through the woods. She remembered passing a sign that had the name Beacon Hills on it. She didn't think much of it until her mind echoed the name in her head—she only assumed this was where she was meant to be.

Walking further toward a light, she came to the edge of the wood, coming to a street that was lit by the street lights above. She was grateful she had shoes on due to the rough grounds of not only the forest she just walked out of, but the gravel she was now walking on. The Stone didn't know how long she was walking until she finally stumbled across a group of teens and a wrecked car.

"Actually, it was terrified."

Odessa wrapped her arms around herself as she spoke, coming closer to the group, "excuse me?"

Scott McCall and his pack jumped at the sound of an unfamiliar voice. They looked to the voice to see a girl around their age, blonde hair with gray clothing. She had dirt smudged on her face from sleeping on the ground of the forest floor. To be frank, the girl looked exhausted.

Unsettled by the silence, Odessa spoke again, "is one of you Scott McCall?"

Stiles Stilinski, Lydia Martin and Allison Argent bolted their eyes to their friend as he furrowed his brows, stepping forward, "that's me."

"I'm Odessa—Odessa Stone," she bit her lip nervously, "someone said you could help me."

Stiles spoke next, wary of the girl, "help with what?"

Odessa took in a breath as she willed her eyes to glow yellow, and fortunately, they did, "control."

Odessa Stone had never felt more out of place. She was currently sitting on the bed that belonged to Scott McCall as he and his best friend, who introduced himself as Stiles, stared down at her. The blonde had been acquainted with the two girls whose names were Lydia and Allison and told Odessa that if she needed anything, she shouldn't hesitate to ask. She wondered how she would contact them, but that was the least of her problems and low on her priority list.

"So, let me get this straight," her eyes snapped up to meet Stiles' as he spoke, "you were told by someone, who you don't remember, to come to Beacon Hills so that Scott could teach you how to control your... werewolfiness. But you don't know where you came from or who sent you?"

Odessa nodded shortly, "yes."

"You really don't know where you came from?"

"I-I have this branding on my wrist," she answered Scott, bringing out her wrist. The boys moved closer to look at the mark to see two circles, almost like a bullseye target with a line going through on the inner part of her wrist, "you would think it would heal—but it never did. I don't know what it means but I have a feeling I got it from where I came from."

Seeing her nervous expression and the tremble in her voice, Scott sat next to her to make her more comfortable, "what's the last thing you can remember?"

"Running," the blonde answered as she played with her hands, "so much running. I finally fell asleep when the sun came up and woke up after hearing these voices in my head."

Stiles and Scott locked eyes as the former spoke, "what did they say?"

"Your name," she looked up to Scott, "and Beacon Hills. And someone saying 'you got this, Odessa Stone.' Then I woke up," she sighed at their silence, "look, I know how this must look—"

"A complete stranger with no memory but Scott's name? No. Not weird at all."

"Stiles," Scott warned his best friend, his eyes firm but softened when he spoke to the blonde, "do you remember any plans on where you were supposed to stay?"

Her eyes teared slightly at the idea of being all alone. Hating how her emotions were betraying her, she wiped her eyes fiercely, "no. No, I-I don't know."

"It's okay," Scott consoled. His best friend watched with untrusting eyes, but softened when he saw the girl crumble her tough appearance. The Beta didn't think twice to continue, "you can stay with me."

"Scott—"

"I can't let you do that for me," Odessa spoke over Stiles.

Scott nodded, "you came to me to teach you control. I can't let someone I'm teaching sleep on the street. You can take the guest room next door."

The Stone furrowed her brow, "don't you guys have like... parental figures?"

Just as she finished her question, a door was heard from downstairs.

"Scott? Is my dinner in the fridge?"

Odessa watched the two boys look at each other in a panic.

"Oh, well that answers my question."

Melissa McCall took the blonde werewolf in with open arms. The woman felt for the girl and immediately offered the guest room after hearing of her situation. Since Odessa didn't have anything with her, Melissa offered to get Odessa a phone soon and enrolled the girl at Beacon Hills High just in time for school starting that next Monday.

After saying goodnight to Stiles, who was reluctant to leave—just because he didn't trust her and what she could do at the McCall house—Odessa made her way to the guest room, which was technically now her room.

Putting her hair up to wash her face, she heard footsteps coming her way. She turned toward the doorway and smiled at Scott, who returned the gesture.

"Thank you," Odessa started, "for taking me in."

The McCall nodded with a gentle smile, "we're gonna teach you control, Odessa. I promise you that."

Odessa could say with full confidence that she had never been to a mall before. And to say the least—she was fascinated.

All different kinds of people were everywhere, with kids or a significant other, shopping bags in hand. Not moving from her spot at the entrance of the huge building, her admiration was interrupted by someone knocking into her shoulder.

Lydia Martin sighed next to Allison Argent as she watched their new friend watch the two kids who knocked into her with wide eyes. The strawberry blonde pulled the brunette to Odessa and offered her a gentle smile, "word of advice, don't stand in front of an entrance in a busy mall."

Odessa nodded shortly, "noted."

The Stone was grateful to the two girls who offered to take her shopping before school. Earlier in the day, Scott came in saying he got a text from Lydia, and the rest was history.

The girls first made their way to the first clothing store they set their sights on—Urban Outfitters. Odessa couldn't help but become overwhelmed at how big the store was and how much clothing and other miscellaneous things took up the space.

"So, Odessa," Lydia started, smirking around at her favorite thing—clothing, "how would you describe your style?"

The blonde blinked, "uh," she stuttered, "I don't know. I've been wearing the same thing for as long as I can remember," she looked around the store from her spot and found something that piqued her interest, "I like this, though."

Lydia and Allison smiled at the item she chose. The girl picked up a large sage green crew neck with a Nirvana logo on it. Just with that item, Lydia knew exactly how to style her new friend.

The strawberry blonde smiled, "this is gonna be fun."

Odessa Stone shopped till she dropped—literally. She got home, or back to the McCall residence, after seven hours of shopping. She ended up with more clothes than she knew what to do with, and four huge shopping bags that made her fingers hurt due to the weight of how much she was carrying.

Coming into the house with her own key, the Stone trucked up the stairs and to her bedroom. She paused at the sight of her door already open, not remembering if she closed her door that morning before she left or not. Using the back of her bag filled fists, she pushed the door open to see a completely different room in front of her. The same light beige walls were covered with different artwork and posters. Her black bed set was replaced with a lighter color with pillows and a throw blanket. There was an added mirror in the shape of a circle by her dresser, that now had items of every sort on the top. And just for an added touch, a few (fake) plants scattered around her room. It was brighter—more her.

"You like it?"

Odessa whirled around startled to meet the eyes of Scott and Stiles. The two boys redid the entire guest room while Odessa went out with Lydia and Allison. It took some convincing for Stiles to help his best friend, but Odessa didn't need to know that.

The blonde raised her brow, "you two did this?"

"Uh," Scott glanced at his best friend nervously, "yeah, we did. Thought we'd spruce it up for you."

"Do you like it?"

Odessa's eyes made her way toward Stiles Stilinski, who asked the question. This was the first time she had been able to get a proper look at the boy. His hair was long and had a spike to it. His eyes were a light brown, almost hazel. And his expression never wavered from the skeptical features it held since he met the girl. Odessa concluded that he didn't trust easily. She has now made it one of her missions to get him to trust her—it would just take some time.

"I love it," the Stone smiled at the two boys, who perked up at her response, "thank you, seriously."
