Chapter 25
Skylor's POV
The four of us land our ship in the empty clearing where Auntie is waiting. All of us have been silent the entire time, not saying a word. Seliel has been crying since we got back onto the ship while Chamille went to her room. PIXAL stayed with me while I steered the ship.
Once the ship lands, all four us climb down to meet Auntie. She has barrels of traveler's tea prepared. Looking across the four of us, she furrows her eyebrows, concerned.
"Did something happen to Nya?" she asks, worried.
"The lightning guardian got in her head. She tried to take the gemstone for them, but we got it," I answer, no emotions present on my face. I hand her the last gemstone. Auntie loops it through her necklace.
"I am proud of you girls for staying strong. Nya will regret leaving us," she says, turning her back and walking towards the barrels. "It will take an immense amount of traveler's tea to bring the gemstones back with us. There's not enough for all of us, the gemstone, and the ship. We leave it here. We can get it when we come back."
"We can't leave Nya," Seliel speaks up. The rest of us all look at her.
"Why not? She made her choice, the wrong one," Auntie snaps, tension running through her. She rubs her temples. "I'm sorry. What I meant to say is that if she was willing to betray you, her sisters, she won't hesitate again. I know you all care about her, I do too, but we can't let anything jeopardize our mission."
"Is it not possible to help her?" PIXAL asks.
Auntie shakes her head sadly. "I'm afraid not. She's one of them now. Now, we must get back. It will take some time to merge the gemstones since we don't have the elements of creation on our side, so we must leave as soon as possible."
All five of us move to stand behind a barrel of the tea. Auntie stands between two, one of which being meant for Nya. All at once, the five of us pour the barrels, creating a portal for us to go through. Chamille is the first to jump through, followed by Auntie. PIXAL is next, erring on the cautious side. Seliel and I are the only two left.
"I don't want to leave her, Sky," Seliel looks over at me, tears welling in her eyes. My expression begins to match hers, breaking down again for the first time since we left the temple.
"I don't either, Sel," I tell her, sighing,"but she's not coming, as much as I wish she was. Jay...he did something to her. Nya would want us to do this." Reaching out, I take her hand in mine. Both of us close our eyes.
"You're right," she agrees, sniffling. In sync, the two of us step forward, our eyes closed, falling into the portal and back to the realm we came from.

Nya's POV
"Don't worry about Wu and Garmadon. They're intimidating, yeah, but both of them are total softies," Jay tells me as we walk back to their ship. After we stayed at the temple for about ten minutes, the rest of the boys decided it was time to start moving back. We already camped overnight, and now we're on the tail end of our journey back.
Jay and I walk in the back behind the others. Kai, hesitant to leave my side at first, is talking with Lloyd, who was not thrilled to have me come with them. Cole and Zane are talking together now too.
"Jay?"
"Yeah?"
"You're sure everyone is fine with me staying? I don't want to cause any tension," I say. He automatically picks up on who I mean.
"Lloyd is just threatened cause Kai has always been like an older brother to him. I think he's afraid that you'll take his spot," Jay admits. "Give him a while. He'll warm up to you eventually.
"You're sure?"
"Positive. Lloyd might be a bit intimidating at first, but on the inside, he's still a kid, literally. He has...issues from his childhood. He was abandoned by both of his parents when he was young and has had to go through so much. Kai filled that role for a bit until his parents came back. He took care of Lloyd," Jay explains, quieter now so the others don't hear.
"So now he's scared that Kai is going to leave him?" I clarify.
"Not really leave, just neglect him," Jay answers. "How are you holding up with everything? I know this is a big change already, and it isn't going to get easier for a while."
"Well, the fact that my maniac 'mother' is going to be freed isn't really comforting, but it's liberating to not have the pressure of some expectation weighing on me. I already miss my sisters though. I haven't spent a day of my life not with them, with the exception of PIXAL, so it's really weird," I admit, letting out a long sigh.
Jay wraps his good arm around my shoulder, sending a soft shock down my spine and immediately helping relax me. It's like I melt at his touch, "Well, if it makes any of it any better, we're here for you now. Yeah, it might be a bit different, but different isn't necessarily bad. The six of us, we're a team now, and we'll defeat Mara and bring your sister back. It'll be a lot harder now, yeah, but we can do it. Ninja's never quit."
"I like that," I tell him, gently leaning my head into his side.
"Oh FSM, not again," I hear Lloyd say in front of me as he starts stumbling. "Kai..." as he goes to keep talking, he collapses. My brother catches him. None of the guys look surprised.
"Is he okay?" I ask, my eyes wide.
"Your sisters appear to have left the realm. Lloyd loses consciousness temporarily when people with powers enter or exit Mara's prison realm," Zane answers me.
"Cole, you should carry him," Kai instructs, trying to prop the limp Lloyd onto his feet.
"Why me?"
"You're the one with super strength," seeing Kai's point, Cole walks over and easily picks up Lloyd, holding him bridal style.
After another minute, their ship comes into view. It's parked. Perched on the railing is a falcon. The falcon then flies down and lands perfectly on Zane's arm that he sticks out. "Hello my falcon friend."
I look at the two of them, confused. "The falcon is like Zane's brother," Cole answers when he sees my confusion. It just manages to confuse me even more.
"Zane's father also built the falcon. They have some sort of special connection," Jay elaborates further.
"I know this doesn't apply to Zane, but I'm confused about something you told me earlier," I say to Jay. He signals with his head for me to keep going. "So you said that fathers are like mothers but with boys instead. When I didn't know Kai was my brother, it made sense because then boys give birth to boys and girls get birthed by girls, but the fact that Kai and I are siblings confuses it. How does someone get birthed by two different people, or how are Kai and I related when we were birthed by two different people?"
"Ummm..." Jay drifts off, taking his arm away from around my shoulder. "Kai?"
"What do you want, Jay?" Kai asks, turning around.
"Nya has a question, and I really, really think you should be the one who answers it."
"He doesn't ne..."
"What is it?" Kai asks, now patient.
I sigh. "How does someone have both a father and a mother when both give birth, and if only one gives birth, then how is the child related to the other parent?"
Kai glares at Jay. "What did you tell her?"
"Relax, relax, I just said that a father is like a mother, but a boy," he explains. Kai face palms. "Don't you face palm me! I generalized to make it make sense. Sorry if I didn't want to get into the nitty gritty right then."
"Yeah, but you could've done it in a way that didn't put us in this situation!"
"It was bound to happen eventually. Well, I'm going to go get the common room ready for Nya to sleep in. You've got this, tiger," Jay pats Kai on the shoulder before jogging off.
"It's fine Kai, really...," I say, worried about the answer considering their interaction.
"Do you want to hear about our mom and dad instead?" Kai suggests, awkwardly scratching the back of his neck.
"I'd love to."
---
I sit awkwardly in "my room", even though it's a room with a couch and a large screen, clearly not suited to be a bedroom. The ninja have been on the deck with their masters for what feels like an eternity. I only briefly saw them before Kai brought me into this room for me to wait. When I walked in, there was a little plate of crackers waiting for me on the table.
I examine the room around me. The floorboards are sturdy, resisting when I press my feet down. The table the screen is on has several white contraptions on it. They each are identical, with little buttons on them. Looking out of the window, I see that we're moving. The sky is like a never ending pool of blue, accented by puffs of white.
After I grow bored of looking around, I close my eyes in an attempt to nap. The last several days have been tiring, especially since I've been staying up to watch Jay. I have no doubt that there are dark bags under my eyes.
Even though I try to fall asleep, I can't. I'm restless. Although I know that I'm in a safe place now, I can't help but worry about my sisters. Ciara didn't hesitate to kill all of our mother's. There's no telling what she or Mara will do my my sisters, especially with even more power.
My attempts of sleep are interrupted when I hear the door slowly creak open. My eyes open barely, and I see Jay standing in the slit in the doorway. He switched out of his outfit he was wearing previously, now in a pair of blue sweatpants and a white t shirt, his strong arms and gash visible. His hair is damp and slightly messy. The sight of him makes my chest tight. It's as if I'm at a loss for words. The words won't materialize.
"I-I'm sorry. Did I wake you?" he asks, still partially hiding behind the door.
"No, I couldn't sleep," I manage to get out, rubbing my eyes. "You can come in."
Quietly, he walks into the room. He gently closes the door behind him. "Did you like the crackers?"
"Yeah, I was hungry. Thank you," I admit. I move over on the couch, so he can sit down next to me.
"Sorry I took so long. First, we had to talk to Master Wu and Garmadon about everything that happened, then Zane insisted that he should restitch up my arm, and then I realized how much I reeked, so I took a shower," he explains, sitting next to me.
"Were Wu and Garmadon fine with me staying with you all?" I ask, making sure I'm not intruding.
"They seemed happy with it. They were both friends with your dad, so that probably helped," Jay admits, grabbing one of the crackers that was still on the plate. "Don't feel stuck in here. Our ship is your ship."
"Did they say anything about the fact that you guys didn't get the gemstone?" I ask, still feeling bad that I let it slip out of my grasp. I was literally holding it, and I still lost it.
Jay takes one of my hands in his, noticing my furrowed eyebrows. The contact sends a buzz up my arms and into my body, urging me to get closer to him. "Nya, it's not your fault we didn't get the gemstone."
"But it is Jay. I had it in my hand, and I dumbly left part of it sticking out. Now, they have all four," I take the blame, shutting my eyes tightly for multiple seconds. When I feel his hand gently cup my face, a nearly inaudible gasp escapes my lips. When my eyes flutter open, I see a light layer of blush across his cheeks. His electric blue eyes stare into mine.
"Remember when you and your sisters got the Ruby of Fire? The whole time I was kidnapped, I was wondering what I could've done to prevent you all from getting it. Do you know what I realized?" I shake my head. "There's no point in thinking about it. All it did was upset me."
"That feels like so long ago, when we first got it," I admit, gazing into his eyes. His thumb gently grazes the skin of my face, making me long to be closer to him.
"Is it bad to say I'm happy I got kidnapped?" he asks with a small smile on his face. His voice is a bit deeper than usual, paired with a look in his eyes that I can't identify. I can't tell if it's the allure of his touch or if it's coming from inside of me, but I find myself drawn towards him, slightly moving closer.
"Why would you say that?" I ask, noticing the lack of distance between us. It makes my slightly nervous, my heart pounding against my chest, but a good nervous. Deep inside of me, I feel a pull towards him, urging me to get closer.
"Because it brought me to you," he tells me, brushing a free strand of hair behind my ear. The heat immediately rushes to my cheeks. I catch his eyes briefly glance down at my lips, and although I don't know what it means, it sends shivers down my spine.
"Jay?" I barely manage to get out.
"Y-yeah?" he says, breathless like me.
"I..." as I'm about to finish my statement, the door opens up. Both Jay and I, by instinct, jump apart. Cole stands in the doorway, a pile of clothes in his hands. He has a small smirk on his face while looking at Jay, who slightly glares at him.
"Jay, Master Wu wants to see you," his teammate tells him. Jay groans.
"Now? I just talked to him like, an hour and a half ago," Jay whines, leaning against the couch.
"Yes now. He's already talked to the rest of us. I think he's trying to create some sort of game plan for when Mara comes, and he wants all the information he can get," Cole explains.
"Fine. I'll be back," he gives me a small smile before going to walk out of the room. Cole winks at him, and Jay just rolls his eyes before walking out of sight.
"Misako said you could use some of her clothes until we can get some for you," Cole gives me a small smile, setting the pile of clothes down where Jay was sitting.
"That was nice of her. That's Lloyd's mom, right?" I check. Cole nods.
"I'm going to sit with Zane on the deck if you want to join us. If you're going to join the team, we might as well get some team bonding in," he offers, putting a smile on my face.
"I'd enjoy that."
---
"Why'd we stop?" I ask when I see the scenery around us stop moving.
"It appears we have reached Ignacia," Zane observes, looking off the side of the ship. Cole, Zane, and I have been sitting on the deck for the past several hours, just talking. They both shared a bit about themselves, and I shared a bit about my childhood. About an hour in, Jay came and joined us.
"Ignacia? Why are we in Ignacia?" Jay asks, confused.
"Because I am going to bring my little sister home, officially," I turn around to see my brother walking down a staircase, a red t-shirt and a pair of jeans on. "Now, let's go."
---
Kai and I walk up a grassy hill up to a little shop. The shop is traditionally styled. Banners hang from the roof. "The forge used to be over there. When it burned down due to Ciara while dad and I were in it, we never cared enough to rebuild it." Kai points over to an area now lush with grass. To the left of it, there are two slabs of cement. Before I can ask what it is, he pulls me towards the little shop.
When we walk inside, I'm met with various weapons. Dozens of katanas line the walls, along with various different types of armor. I pause to take a look around. When I look at Kai, he's staring at a picture on the wall. It's of a young woman and man proudly standing in front of the shop, their arms around each other.
"Mom and dad loved being blacksmiths. This shop was their pride and joy, aside from us. Dad would always tell me stories about when him and mom would craft stuff together. He lacked the patience to make anything properly, but mom helped him with that."
"Do you remember them, Mom and Dad?" I ask. Kai gently wraps his arm around me.
"I remember Dad. Mom died when I was too young to remember anything, but Dad made sure I knew what type of woman she was. Every year on the day that she died and you disappeared, we had 'Mommy and Nya day' where we did stuff Mom liked," he admits, giving me a side hug, engulfing me in warmth. "I'm just...I'm so happy to finally have you back, Nya. I love the guys, but it was always so lonely when they went and visited their families. Lloyd would always let me stay with him, since we're always with his family, but it's not the same."
"I'm happy too. It's weird, finding out about you after 16 years, but I'm glad. When I was little, actually, we had elemental robots that we'd fight for practice. Afterwards when everyone went inside, or early in the morning, I would go out and talk to the fire robot because it made me feel safe. I guess I knew deep down inside all along about you," I admit, looking up at my brother.
"Were you ever caught?" Kai asks. He's grinning from ear to ear.
"Well, Skylor caught me once, and so did Ciara but I lied to her. Other than that, no," when I see Kai's face slightly waver at Skylor's name, I keep talking, "She missed on purpose."
"What?"
"Skylor, she missed Lloyd on purpose. We were told to not kill any of you, and she wouldn't be dumb enough to risk any fatal injuries. She just wanted to shake you up," I explain.
"Why would she do that?"
"She's smart, and she knows you're her weakness. By trying to anger you, it turned you into more of an enemy, so she could fight you," I hypothesize, knowing my former sister.
"She told you I was her weakness?" he asks, trying to not sound that interested.
"Not in those words, but she's said she doesn't want anything bad happening to you, and she wants to be near you," I tell him what I can recall.
He drifts off, looking into the space in front of him. "It's not fair. None of this is fair. Ciara and Mara left several children motherless and took 5 girls away from their families just to brainwash them. It's not fair to you, or me, or Skylor, or any of the rest of us."
Looking at the picture of our parents, a question arises in my throat, "Are our parents graves here? I...I want to see them," I ask. Wordlessly, he grabs my hand and leads me out of the house. We walk across the lush grass to the two cement slabs. When I get close enough, I can read our parent's names on them.
"Hi Mom. Hi Dad," Kai says, kneeling down in front of their graves. I follow in suit. "I miss you guys. I always do. It's been a while since I've been back, but I've been a bit busy. The guys and I, we saved Ninjago from the Overlord. The only bad thing, though, is that Ciara came back afterwards. She got all the gemstones, but don't worry, we're going to take her down when she comes back," he talks to them in a caring way. "Someone else is here to see you guys."
Kai signals for me to start. "Hi Mom. Hi Dad," I say, unsure of what to say. "It's Nya. I'm sorry we couldn't get to know each other better, but Kai has told me a lot about you. You were amazing people."
For the next hour, we sat there in front of their graves. We picked flowers and placed them on the graves before Kai told me more stories about them. He talked about how Dad taught him how to make his first sword, and how Mom and Dad fought against all odds and ended up together. Kai said she'd be proud of me for standing out against Ciara and Mara like she did.
At the end of the day, Kai and I watched the sunset in front of our parents graves, the four of us together for the first time in over sixteen years.
A/N and that's the end of Enmity! I hope you all enjoyed it!
I posted the sequel already, so some of you might have already seen it, but the title is...
Unanimity!! I tried to make you all think it was unity, but nope!
Also, I made the cover spoiler proof cause I knew if I put Nya with the rest of the ninja it would be a MAJOR spoiler just seeing the cover of the book
How did you all feel about the ending?
Also, next book may or may not highlight some other ships some more 😉 Gotta share the wealth
I hope you all enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it! See you all over at Unanimity (that's going to take some time to get used to I'm so used to Enmity whoops)
