• Eleven Years Later •
"Miss Babineaux, who was he?"
"His name was Isaac, and he was my everything." Elaine looked up at him, tugging the blanket closer around herself. "He was the first and last. First love, first kiss, first everything."
"What happened to him?"
"He died. We moved to Beacon Hills, and he was helping his friends, and he died." She swallowed, shaking her head. "But he's still here. I still see him when you let me."
"Isaac Lahey is dead. You can't see him. You can't speak to him. He's dead."
"Don't talk to me like a child. I know he's dead." She snapped, narrowing her eyes. "But I can still see him, if you would just take me off of these stupid pills."
The doctor shook his head, scribbling something the clipboard with a look of disapproval. "Still in denial, I see."
"It's not denial." Elaine turned her head and stared at the wall, her jaw clenching and unclenching in irritation.
"If it were not for your.." The doctor paused, taking a deep breath. "Situation, we would have you on much stronger medication."
"Pump me full of drugs until I'm practically dead?" Elaine muttered, rocking back in the wooden rocking chair she was sitting in. "Why don't you just kill me now?"
"We are not trying to kill you, Miss Babineaux." The doctor slid his pen into the pocket of his coat, gripping the clipboard with one hand. "We are trying to help you."
Elaine muttered to herself in French, the doctor opening his mouth to speak. He didn't get the chance to scold her, the door to the room sliding open suddenly.
"Hands where I can see them." A rough voice said, the doctor dropping the clipboard and putting his hands up in response to the gun pointed at him. "Doctor Heins, you are under arrest for medical negligence and torture. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to have an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed to you by the court. Do you understand?"
"Stiles?" Elaine's voice made the man in the FBI vest look over in shock, lowering his gun.
"Sheffield, take him. I've got this patient." Stiles holstered his gun, nodding towards one of the fellow agents who escorted the doctor out of the room. His face softened, kneeling down so that he was face to face with her. "We all thought you moved back to France, what happened?"
"The hunters who killed Isaac, they tracked me down and shoved me in Eichen House." Elaine breathed, her eyes beginning to water. "I've been in here for months."
"Let's get you out of here, okay?" Stiles stood up, holding out his hand. Stiles had been a driving force in the investigation of Eichen House, and their cruel practices. Elaine took his hand and stood, the blanket falling off of her body and onto the ground. Stiles's eyes widened, swallowing in shock. "You're-"
"Yeah." Elaine nodded, her eyes following his gaze to where it was focused on her swollen stomach. "I'm due in two weeks."
"I am so sorry." Stiles wrapped his arms around her shoulders, leading her out of the room and down the hall. Elaine made eye contact with multiple handcuffed orderlies, all of which glaring back at her.
"I don't know where I'm gonna go." Elaine whispered, feeling Stiles squeeze her shoulder.
"As soon as we get a statement from you, you're coming home with me." Elaine looked up at him in shock, the man she had befriended over the years giving her a warm smile. "Besides, the house is kinda lonely, with just me."
"Thank you." Elaine swallowed the lump growing in her throat as they stopped in front of the ambulance.
"Is it a boy or a girl?" The paramedic asked, pulling on her gloves and giving her a comforting smile.
"A girl." Elaine replied, nodding her head and looking over at Stiles. "Allison Cam Lahey."
