CHAPTER TWENTY THREE: Yunmi's life
˚ ༘ ೀ⋆。˚
- HAN YUNMI
The building's atmosphere was usually friendly and welcoming even for a prestigious college - everyone was normally content with their school work and enjoyed their own time well too. Being wealthy and/or intelligent was the main motivation other students in the country would have wanted.
But after the news came out, it was so empty; the liveliness had dissipated and the most significant students of the school had fallen under a cloud of anxiety. Whether it was the other students or the four popular students, everything had changed at Narae.
Nevertheless, Yunmi still had the two girls as her friends and she couldn't have asked for anyone better for comfort. And luckily for her, she still gets treated with respect here as no one believes she had done anything.
Gunwook had a few friends that Yunmi didn't know the names of, and she rarely saw him as he would spend most of his time in the principal's office due to his behaviour and academics slacking off.
Even Hyeri had started to ignore Yunmi, staying with Gyuvin at all times. It seemed like she was trying to stop him from acting like a bad person to others, yet anyone could tell the hatred he stored in his mind was still present. Although, there's been nothing about him manipulating girls or playing with them recently.
However, Ricky had been no where to be seen at all in the building. It was as if he was never even attending the school anymore, as if nothing had ever happened at all. No one has heard from him and it looks like he doesn't attend school during the controversy.
Everything was okay. Just okay. Just okay for Yunmi, anyway.
"I'm sorry that I've been so distant lately." Yunmi sighed, avoiding Wonyoung's strong gaze from the side. The library was pretty empty and the girls were hiding at the back with their hoods on.
"Don't apologise." Wonyoung chuckled softly. "I understand. Well I don't, but I get why you'd be distant."
Yunmi chuckled back and didn't say anything else, letting her thoughts consume her. So many things were forcing their way into her head and it was so overwhelming to deal with, especially during the case.
"Any updates on the case?" Wonyoung asked, breaking the other from staying in her own troubled mind.
Yunmi broke out of her trance and shrugged. "All I'm getting told is that the detective guys are going to search my room on the weekend, oh and they'll be interrogating Gyuvin's parents."
Wonyoung's eyes widened. "Damn, really? They've really let go of the idea of any of you four doing it?"
"I guess." Yunmi exhaled and played with the pen in her hand. "It's not that I'm upset about it, I just feel like there's so much more to what the others have said. It's obvious that they lied to the detectives. And that whoever Z is has somehow lied too."
"What do you mean by that?" Wonyoung looked at Yunmi's blank face in confusion. "Z lied? I thought they knew everything right?"
The other shook her head. "Taerae asked me if I slept with Ricky, because apparently that fucking Z had told everyone we did." Her grip on the pen grew stronger. "What kind of made up bullshit is that?"
"I thought you two did?" Wonyoung raised a brow.
"No." Yunmi scoffed and dropped the pen before leaning back in the wooden chair. "All we've done is a kiss like ages ago, I don't get how someone had come to that conclusion. I'd never sleep with any of them."
Wonyoung tilted her head and smiled awkwardly at Yunmi. "Didn't someone see you two in the same bed? That's what lead to the breakup right?"
The other was clearly not enjoying this topic and she wanted to change it before she would go on a tangent. "We slept in the same bed. That was it."
"Oh." Was all she could say in response.
"I know Ricky." Yunmi sighed as she finally decided to go on a tangent and open up a little to Wonyoung. "He overthinks a lot about everything, and is a very secretive and insecure guy. He'd usually come to me if he had problems.."
Wonyoung waited until Yunmi would elaborate and she looked down before beginning to speak again. "...So that one night in the summer house, he got really upset about something so I stayed with him until he fell asleep."
The other hummed, understanding the story without showing Yunmi that she was definitely in surprise from that. "Ricky seemed to be the least involved with the case besides you."
"He's the quietest, so of course he seems the least likely choice, right?" Yunmi bit the inside of her lip. "I mean it would make sense if he had a motive though."
"Are you suspecting him..?" Wonyoung's eyes widened and she couldn't understand what Yunmi meant by that. "He hates opening up though, I don't understand how he'd even become a suspect in the first place. So what do you mean?"
"I don't really want to get into it, but he's very insecure, about everything. Explains his shitty attitude in school acting like a narcissist when he isn't." She snorted. "You wouldn't expect it from him, but when he gets too insecure about something, he acts on it."
"Anddd that links to the Yejun case because?" Wonyoung was still staring at Yunmi's expressionless face, wanting to know the truth.
"Yejun looked down on him, remember? And since he found out that I... cheated on him with Ricky it's obvious he would get mad about it."
Wonyoung nodded and smiled when she finally understood something. "So it'd make sense if he wanted to hurt Yejun because he didn't want his secret coming out?"
Yunmi nodded. "Yeah."
Wonyoung then furrowed her brows. "Wait, why exactly are you blaming him when there's new suspects already? That's so unlike you."
Yunmi scoffed. "I'm just mad at them."
Then, they heard voices coming towards their way. Both Yunmi and Wonyoung pulled up their hoods tighter and acted as if they were studying. The two figures were on the other side of the bookshelf so they couldn't spot Wonyoung or Yunmi.
Once they heard the voices, Yunmi almost felt like crying. "Gyuvin you shouldn't be doing this." Hyeri's voice was so clear and the two girls locked eyes before attempting to listen to their conversation.
"They're trying to interrogate my fucking parents tomorrow, why should I let them do that?" His voice was so deep, yet so quiet. It was the voice she heard a lot during the time they weren't friends.
"I understand that but don't try to lie about who did it..." Hyeri sighed and it was evident that she was still trying to help him.
"I'm not lying. Gunwook could've done it, just as how Yunmi and Ricky could've done it." Just by the mention of her name, Yunmi felt herself get nervous. It was also so obvious that she hadn't done it, despite her own personal feelings about it.
"But don't you think lying to Hanbin about your friendship is a bit too far? You're going to ruin the investigation and pull the police away from your parents, when they are very clearly involved in the case."
"Hyeri. My parents did not fucking kill Yejun, understand?" He spat, and all Wonyoung could do was give disgusted faces to Yunmi because of his behaviour.
"Gyuvin just fucking listen to me. I know your family are the most suspicious but you can't ruin it. You have to be objective with Yejun's case." Hyeri sounded so desperate. "We all know none of you four did it."
"Yejun deserves to die." Gyuvin muttered before complaining to himself, which got quieter as it seemed like he was walking away. Once it felt like they were fully gone, Yunmi and Wonyoung panicked.
"Is he... going to lie to them again?" Wonyoung whispered to Yunmi in surprise. Yunmi shrugged in response and sighed in frustration. "I'll sort that fucking cunt out." Wonyoung stood up in annoyance but was quickly pulled back down.
"Don't." Yunmi sighed again. "I know you're mad but seriously, Hanbin will know if he's lying or not. It's not like they've all been lying ever since we had detectives anyway."

the next day.
Yunmi narrowed her eyes to the paperwork in front of her, trying to understand the stupid literacy homework she was given. Even after being gone for an investigation that didn't involve her entirely, she was still given work to do.
She was given an essay assignment to write about her favourite experiences in life and the challenges she had to face during those times. Ultimately, she felt fucked as Yunmi enjoyed almost every day of her life up until last year. So remembering nice experiences might be either reminiscent or a free pass for her to cry.
Taerae and Yujin were sat in her room, silently looking around for anything that could help in the case. Yujin was extra excited this time as Yunmi almost never let him in her room without permission, even when she was living in the mansion with the others.
Taerae really admired her room. Obviously it was a typical rich girl bedroom with fancy furniture and a lack of bright colours. Everything was simple in a good way and minimalistic, which completely made Yunmi seem more sophisticated than she is.
"Did you know I built my house in bloxburg? Yunmi's room was so hard to make you know." The youngest huffed. "Honestly, even though her room is the most boring it's so hard to build."
Yunmi scoffed from the desk and continued to type in the laptop without retorting to her brother's silly comments. They were supposed to be searching her room, not talking about building her room in bloxburg..
Taerae inspected the side of her desk, containing hung up photographs of Yunmi and her friends and family. "You really have had the same two circles of friends ever since you were a child, haven't you?"
Yunmi shrugged from the table before letting her eyes wander to the pictures. "Yeah, pretty much. You're my newest proper friend in like, years. I make friends easily, but you're the coolest."
The eldest chuckled and continued to look at the dozens of photos. It seemed that every single person in the group have collections of photographs with each other ever since they were young.
Yujin snorted. "Yunmi and Gunwook were such cute babies." He held onto the photo and pointed at Gunwook in the picture. "Woah. I didn't realise you knew each other since the womb."
"Father literally used to study with Gunwook's father in business... although he turned into a politician. ." Yunmi said, still glueing her eyes to the laptop.
"All we do is own hotels.. quite boring if you ask me." Yujin sighed as he traced his fingers on a photo of him and Yunmi. "I am so cute."
"You were." Yunmi snorted, earning a light hit on the shoulder from the boy.
Taerae looked at more photos and a question came into his head. "Not to disturb your homework further, but did your friend group now," He pointed at a picture of Yunmi with Hanni, Jungwon, Anton, Wonyoung and Youngeun. "Ever get along with your friend group then?" He then pointed at the pictures of Yunmi with Gunwook, Gyuvin, Ricky and Yejun.
She closed the laptop and spun her chair to face Taerae. "No. They never really liked each other. My friends now never liked the boys, they thought they were too entitled."
"Umm, they are." Yujin butted in. "They just caused problems for you like ALL THE TIME." He crossed his arms and pointed at the baby photo again. "Well besides Gunwook. He's like the least strangest. Anyway, I get along with all of Yunmi's friends, but it's true they hate each other."
Taerae turned to Yunmi for an answer. "None of them liked Yejun because they thought he was a bad person for me. And ever since childhood they weren't fond of the boys... besides Gyuvin."
"Gyuvin?" Taerae repeated the name with curiosity. "I thought they hated Gyuvin the most."
"They shipped me with him back then, but once I started dating Yejun and all of that drama... they all despised his whole existence." Yunmi shrugged and turned to a picture of her and Wonyoung. "Oh yeah Wonyoung is like Gyuvin's number one hater."
"If bitchy Gyuvin has no haters then I'm dead." Yujin interrupted. "Me and Wonyoung shit talk him all the time, he's worse than what Hanbin probably tells us."
Yunmi laughed and pat Yujin's head before remembering the conversation she heard at school yesterday. "Oh Taerae I have something to ask from you, and you too Yujin."
The two boys turned to her as a serious expression displayed on her face. "Gyuvin's planning to lie to Hanbin about certain things. I heard him talk about it - so I suggest telling him to not believe that boy's bullshit."
Taerae nodded and before he could properly respond, a notification came on both his and Yujin's phone. They both read it and turned to Yunmi at the same time. "His parents are being interrogated right now actually. The whole family could be sus." Yujin said.
