CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR: Parents know best
˚ ༘ ೀ⋆。˚
- KIM JIWOONG
"May we ask what your relationship was like with Ryu Yejun?" Jiwoong looked at the man with no fear. His suspicion was so strong that he wasn't the slightest bit nervous to ask bold questions about it. He was so sure that his theories were correct that he didn't even want to write any notes down.
Mr Kim could only smile before answering. "We just got along because he's friends with my son, no?" He glanced at the phone that was recording and then back up at Jiwoong.
"I get that, but were you not friends at all? You were his principal too, just after he got kicked out of Narae." Jiwoong raised a brow, making sure to get out as much as he could out of the man.
"He was one of our best students, of course I'd get along with him. What's your issue exactly?" The man didn't seem to be interested in the conversation and his nonchalance was frustrating already.
"And you didn't know him personally?"
Mr Kim shook his head. "Nope. I told you I didn't know him like that, he was just one of Gyuvin's friends."
"Well I'm extremely fucking sorry but it's obvious you're lying." Jiwoong scoffed, trying to keep his cool. "I'm pretty sure you knew Yejun and Gyuvin were not fond of each other too."
The man dropped his smirk and his dark eyes changed. "You think I'm lying? Of course I knew about that. It's all about Yunmi, isn't it? Why would I get involved in their petty girl business."
"Don't bring Yunmi into this. I'm asking you because you knew Yejun more than just being one of Gyuvin's 'friends' and it's so clear."
"You're trying too hard, there's honestly nothing besides that. I was his principal and he was my son's friend. So there's nothing suspicious about that." He said through gritted teeth. "Honestly, you're not going to get anything out of me because of your stupid interrogation. I'm the one who hired you guys to deal with the case. I haven't done anything to that boy."
Jiwoong noticed how defensive he was being and grew even more suspicious. He didn't want to argue back straight away and thought of another thing to mention. "Okay then, were you aware he was talking to your wife? They were apparently very, very close."
He snorted. "Of course I did. I'm the one who made him do it." Jiwoong was surprised from the fact he actually admitted something.
"Wait, what-"
"God, if you're so desperate then I'll tell you." Mr Kim rolled his eyes and fake smiled at Jiwoong. "I'm sure there's a lot your brother never told you, so much to the point you're suspecting me. Butttt, since he never told you anything. I guess I'll have to be the one to tell you."
Jiwoong didn't say anything else and just wanted him to explain already. "Gyuvin's mother and I don't love each other, right? We basically never did. I already found someone new - Hyeri's mother. Gyuvin's mother was so desperate and wouldn't leave me alone about it, so I set her up with someone."
The boy's eyes widened. "You.. set her up with my brother? Are you fucking insane?"
He nodded."Yejun was an attractive boy and was easy to talk to, so I just asked him to stay with her so she leaves me alone, get it?"
"But that's a student... and you probably have many rich single men your age that you're friends with and you never used them? Why just manipulate my college student brother into dating her???" Jiwoong's blood began to boil and because of that, his eyes were daggers, stabbing right through the man's skin. "You made him some sort of freak, talking to your cougar wife."
"Ex wife." He corrected the boy and scoffed. "Don't get mad at me, Yejun ended up doing it anyway. Even cheated on Yunmi for her, how funny is that?"
"I don't understand..." Jiwoong held onto his temples, trying to piece the words together. "He cheated on Yunmi with a teacher - no, no. The PRINCIPAL of his old school?"
Mr Kim hummed. "Again, I only suggested it and he went with it, so of course he was at our house a lot. Gyuvin was never really aware anyway. I don't think he even knew we were planning to divorce years ago."
The other was so shocked at the fact he wouldn't even tell his son anything. Not telling him that they were getting a divorce, letting someone Gyuvin hates into the house, now even suspect him on the case? But, Gyuvin wasn't the main issue right now.
"So this is you admitting you did know him personally." Jiwoong raised a brow. "You've talked to Yejun enough to somehow convince him to date your disgusting wife."
"Ex wife. And still, no." The man chuckled. "Besides that we never talked. I only talked to him once about that then he went on with it. It was probably to piss Gyuvin off if anything."
Jiwoong was clearly not believing him and took out the polaroid photo that Hanbin found the other day of Mr Kim and Yejun talking. "Gyuvin is right here, and you're just talking casually in the back? Are you sure he didn't know anything?"
The man looked at the photo, yet his expression was still empty. Jiwoong found it so difficult to read his face and figure out what he's thinking.
"He didn't. And Yejun and I were probably talking about that topic anyway." The man grew tired of the conversation and he sighed. "I don't really like the way you're putting such a stretch to everything. Especially on me; I am in charge of the whole investigation."
"And you're doing shit." Jiwoong laughed bitterly. "We should've been able to know who killed him by now." What he was saying was very, very true - having such powerful people involved in the case was either a hit or miss with finding out the killer straight away. However the evidence is in the middle; it's all on the four students, who are ultimately innocent.
The evidence that is gathered for other suspects suggests that it was someone higher up who might've killed him. If so little information about his death was anywhere besides the fact he was 'hit in the head' and was killed at Chaeri, then it would be so much easier to find a key suspect.
The room fell silent after what he said, and he looked up to the man who was silently sitting still. "Did you know about the plan?" He asked quietly.
"What plan?" The man furrowed his brows.
"Framing your son for Yejun's death." Jiwoong answered with a tone that could have intimidated the other adult. "Are you sure you didn't know about it?"
He scoffed. "What makes you think I would do that to my son? It wasn't my choice to choose him as a fucking suspect."
"Then who's was it?"
"Yejun's." The man scoffed.
"So you did know about the plan.. and what about the bat?"
He was surprised at the mention of the bat that he paused for a second before speaking. "I told you I put it there because someone had threatened my son."
Jiwoong couldn't believe any lie that came out of his mouth so he gave up before his mind would go crazy. "Okay, but you did frame your son with it either way. So you knew about the plan."
"No, I didn't. But it's obvious he wanted the four to be framed. You already know them two hated each other, it'd be obvious Gyuvin would be a suspect." He sat up straight and adjusted his collar. "I don't fucking know anything about what happened, okay? I don't want my son to be targeted but now the whole media thinks it's him."
"Okay, then where the fuck were you that night? It was YOUR school, how could they have gotten in anyway?" Jiwoong changed the subject a little as he realised he needed some actual information to work with - like his alibi. "I can't believe I'm asking you this a month after he's dead."
"Wanting my alibi, I see." The man chuckled lowly before pressing onto the phone to stop the recording, and the interview. "I'm finished here." The man stood up and looked down at Jiwoong one more time. "I wasn't in the building. That's all you need to know. And if you need anything else, Gyuvin's mother sure would know a lot."
Jiwoong tilted his head at the last sentence but before exiting, the man glared at him. "I know what you did that night Jiwoong, you're no more suspicious than me." He said before walking off, leaving Jiwoong panicked.

- SEOK MATTHEW
"Did you have some sort of relationship with Yejun? He was at the top of the college besides Gunwook, right?" Matthew was assigned to interview Gyuvin's mother since he had some sort of skill that could make adults believe him. He wasn't very sure what to think of her just yet, and she was very nervous to be here.
She looked dumbfounded. "What? No.. he was just one of my students." The woman avoided eye contact at all times and fiddled with the end of her blouse.
"Are you sure? You know this is very important information for us, and lying to a detective will definitely waste my time." He took a sip of his coffee and she nodded silently.
For a principal, she was very timid. She seemed like a person who wouldn't really be noticed by others but for her age, she is definitely very pretty. Most principals would have a specific aura to them, like something intimidating or of extreme authority. But instead, she gave off the impression that she was too shy for her job.
"Okay, then where were you the night of Yejun's death?" Matthew wanted this interview to be quick, and if she wasn't going to cooperate that much, then it'd be a waste of his energy.
"At work." She replied. "I was writing documents at work, and I was the only one in the building."
"You were at work at three in the morning?" The boy raised a brow. It was pretty known both prestigious colleges were extremely locked and prohibited from anyone entering around that time.
"Oh.." She laughed awkwardly. "No, I was at home with Gyuvin's dad. We were sorting out divorce documents since we all came from Yunmi's parents' event."
He hummed. "So you didn't see Yejun that night?"
"No, no I didn't." She said.
"And you didn't know him personally at all?"
"I don't really pay attention to Gyuvin's friends... the only one I really know is Yunmi. Yejun... I didn't really know since he was new."
Matthew could tell she was lying and he almost scoffed in her face. "So you're divorcing Gyuvin's father, yes?" She nodded. "So I heard you fought a lot, were you okay with the fact he had another woman living in the house?"
It was clear she was getting uncomfortable with the topic but she sighed. "Yes. His new girlfriend and her... daughter. I'm fine with it, I had someone for a while anyway..."
"Yejun?" He asked with a raised brow.
"No, no." She didn't look at Matthew's face as she could imagine his expression already. "I mean... I did get set up with him but I never... you know."
"So you were set up with him?"
"Gyuvin's father only gave me the option of him, that's it." She said quietly.
"Why are you listening to him anyway? Can't you just find someone yourself?" Matthew grew confused.
The woman shrugged. "Anyway... I wasn't in a relationship with Yejun."
Matthew got sick of her already and took out printed receipts of their conversations. "We found this on Yejun's phone."
"Wait... you took Yejun's phone?" She jumped up in her seat in panic. "You... you saw the messages didn't you?"
Matthew nodded and she sighed in defeat before sitting back down. "Okay, fine." Matthew slid the conversations in front of her and she bit her lip. "Oh... haha."
"It's no use lying, I already know." He fake smiled before taking the printed photos back. "We know you had a weird relationship, so why not tell me about it? You don't need to go into detail, just how you treated each other."
At this point, she gave up and accepted her defeat. "Fine." She sniffled. "He was getting paid to date me, okay?!" She raised her voice and she sounded hurt. "No one else liked me, and unfortunately a fucking student was the only one who did. But I found out he was only dating me for the money and to piss Gyuvin off."
"It was nothing completely serious. He just came over secretly sometimes and that was it. Once I found out about it, I ended it but I didn't want to tell him why. I blamed it on Gyuvin and that's all that happened. Okay?" He noticed how she was talking louder and her expressions were more intense than before. She seemed very upset and Matthew could only feel a little bad.
"Okay.. I'm sorry about that. But did you say, paid to date you?" He raised a brow.
"It's all Yunmi's fault." She laughed bitterly. "She's such a slut she takes everyone." Matthew's eyes widened from her sudden personality change and realised that she was way different than she had imagined. "Yejun actually liked Yunmi, so he just dated me so he could get her some shitty expensive gift."
Matthew was taken aback by the fact of Yejun actually liking Yunmi and looked back at the recording phone. He wanted get into the whole Yejun and Yunmi situation, but he had to finish the interview now.
"Okay, then were you the one who took Yejun's phone?" He asked with a calmer voice, trying to make her settle down a little.
"Yes. It was embarrassing you know? To get played by both my husband and a stupid college student." She scoffed. "I had to delete my number, but somehow it didn't fully go."
Then Matthew realised something. "Wait, do you know who else Yejun cheated on Yunmi with?"
"No, but all I know it was some girl friends with Yunmi." She crossed her arms. "I'm sure you saw the messages too, right?"
"Not all of them." He scratched the back of his head. "We're still trying to figure out who it is."
She smirked a little and leaned forward. "You know Matthew, although he claimed to like Yunmi or whatever, he was still stuck on his ex girlfriend. Since you didn't see all the messages, I can tell you that it wasn't necessarily cheating. He was just begging for her back and she refused because she was friends with Yunmi."
Matthew was appalled with the amount of information he was receiving, and got a little excited to talk about it with the others. "Uhm, okay." He pressed the phone to commence the conversation. "Thank you for today."
The woman stood up and looked at him with a glare. "If you put me down as a suspect just because I fell for his tricks I'm seriously going to get mad. And by the way, where did you find his phone anyway?"
"In the bag for baseball bats, did you not put it there?" He said as he slid the phone into his pocket, although he was still secretly recording.
She shook her head. "I was the one who took it, and I hid it in my room. But someone must've taken it and put it in that bag knowing you guys were going to search the house." She smiled to herself. "I'm glad they did, but it looks like you found it anyway. Find out who took it from my room for me." She said before walking out.

Yunmi walked towards the house that held a little too many secrets from last year. Secrets that some she still hasn't told anybody. Secrets that she will never forget. However as soon as she came closer, she noticed Jiwoong outside talking to his parents. "Are they moving?" She asked herself.
The two parents went into the car and once Jiwoong noticed Yunmi, he grinned and waved. She reciprocated the gesture and walked up go him. "Are you and your parents moving?"
Jiwoong shook his head. "No, my parents are. I'm going to take the whole house and use it for the boys so we don't need to live in an apartment anymore."
"This was the summer house after all..." Yunmi laughed awkwardly. "So many rooms.... right.." She looked up at it with both reminiscence and trauma flowing through her head.
He noticed her uncomfortable face. "How was it for you? A lot happened right?"
"Well... it was when we were all irresponsible college kids right? Haha.." She snorted awkwardly, evidently not wanting to talk about it.
"You're all still irresponsible college kids." Jiwoong scoffed before turning to her. "I have a question actually because we finished interrogating Gyuvin's parents."
Yunmi hummed and turned to the older. "Oh shit, are they suspects?" Jiwoong nodded. "Has Gyuvin said anything yet? You know like, lied?"
Jiwoong sighed and shook his head. "Hanbin hasn't told us anything. Apparently he won't even talk to him. But anyway, I have another thing to ask you."
"What is it?""
"You know how I got Yejun's phone? He asked, though he wasn't very sure Yunmi actually knew or not.
"YOU DID? I thought that Yujin was lying." She huffed. "Seriously, how much shit did you find in it?"
"Okay, well... we found it in Gyuvin's house." He watched her expression change. "And someone has been asking for it, but I can't figure out who. It's been a few days now and they've demanded it so I need to find them here.. that's kind of another reason why I'm here."
"Who?" She said, getting suspicious as she watched him start to look nervous to tell her. "Jiwoong tell me, who told you to come here?"
He gulped. "Z..."
"WHAT?" She shouted, but before she could even ask more about it, Yejun and Jiwoong's parents came into her sight. Surprisingly, Gunwook was there too.
He ignored her and smiled at Jiwoong from these adult's side. "They asked me to help with moving." He said. But he said it only to Jiwoong. Yunmi noticed his passive aggressive attitude and got annoyed.
"Anyway, thank you for asking me to help." He grinned at the two adults before giving them
both hugs. He then fist bumped Jiwoong and started to walk away, not even giving a single glance to the girl.
She huffed and crossed her arms. "Dickhead."
"Jiwoong, can you go into the house for a second? We need to speak to Yunmi. Privately." His mother said, and he followed straight without a word. The woman turned to Yunmi and pat her head. "It's nice to see you after a while."
Yunmi smiled straight away, it was obvious that Yejun's parents still gave her comfort. They were always so sweet to her. "Where have you been? And why are you moving?"
"We don't want to live in a huge mansion anymore." She chuckled. "And we're sure our Yejun wouldn't like it if we still lived here. So that's why we're moving out of the city."
"Wait, what?" She panicked before looking at the two. "I can't believe it. Out of the city?"
Yejun's dad nodded. "Quite so." He replied before turning to the woman. "Before we leave, she wants to tell you something." He pat his wife's back before slowly walking towards the car.
The woman pulled Yunmi to a bench outside and clasped Yunmi's hand in her own warm hands. "Before we go, I just wanted to tell you before Yejun couldn't" She smiled. Yunmi was beyond confused but just nodded. "Yejun actually fell in love with you, you know."
"What?" She shivered just from the moment she heard it. "Like, actually? Like not wanting to use me and kind of hated me actually? But I thought he was just lying to me. That's what everyone's been saying."
The woman sighed. "It's true that people have been saying that about him. How he doesn't actually like you and all that nonsense. But actually, near the end of your relationship, he told us he actually fell in love with you. He never wanted to break up with you."
"But... he...?" She couldn't even finish her sentence as she was beginning to get overwhelmed. It seemed like Yejun's mother understood what she was thinking ahout.
The woman's eyes squinted and her expression turned cold. "Yunmi, I know you two never liked each other until the end." Yunmi looked up in surprise. "It was clear you were both in love with other people at the start, but nearing the end... you did fall in love with him right?"
Yunmi nodded slowly. "I did, at the start of this year."
"See? Why do you think he's wanted to break up with you so out of no where?" She chuckled, still keeping her hand warm. "He loved you Yunmi, he might of hated himself to admit it properly."
"I.. I cheated on him." She confessed and closed her eyes, expecting a slap or a scolding. But instead, she heard quiet laughter. Yunmi opened an eye and saw how she was still smiling at her.
She snorted. "I know that. I just said you both were in love with other people at the time you did, so I don't think he'd want to break up months after it happened. He did it because he had to, well that's what he told us anyway. I don't really know what that means.."
"He knew?" Yunmi panicked.
"Yunmi you're so oblivious, aren't you." She laughed again before looking back at the car, and nodding at who Yunmi assumed was her husband. "We have to go, bye Yunmi." She said, letting go of Yunmi's hands. Yunmi immediately got cold and looked at the woman in surprise.
"Yejun would do anything for you. Remember that." She pulled her into a long embrace, stroking her hair softly. "You're a beautiful girl, and I know you didn't do anything." She kissed the girl's forehead before slowly walking away.
Yunmi was now left alone, in shock. "He... what?" She panicked, but felt her phone buzz in her pocket. And as if it was on timing, Z had texted her to go inside of the house.
