CHAPTER THIRTY SIX: The Cuplrit
˚ ༘ ೀ⋆。˚
— KIM GYUVIN
Gyuvin waited impatiently for Hyeri to walk into his room. He was in disbelief after recollecting the events from his dream that he was sure were true. He didn't want to believe a dream over someone he saw as a sister but everything seemed to add up all in that moment.
The past few months had been hectic and confusing for him and it seemed like the truth was so close yet also blocked out by something or someone. But now he realised that the truth had been right in front of him, and he wasn't so sure why.
The door creaked open and Hyeri's expressionless face was illuminated by the sun peaking through the boy's window. It felt somewhat creepy and Gyuvin gulped as she walked towards him. He leaned back on the bedframe as she sat in front of him.
"What do you want me to tell you? I did nothing." She tilted her head at him and the smile that Gyuvin would see everyday was nonexistent. She was evidently pissed off and he did understand that he did throw out allegations on her. "Gyuvin, I'm not hiding anything."
He studied her face, and normally he would know whether she was lying or not however this time, it was pointless to even guess. "Did you date Yejun?"
She pursued her lips. "Did I date Yejun?" She looked to the side and smiled to herself. "Why do you ask?"
He looked at her blankly. "Just say yes or no. Simple question. I just want to know the truth, please don't lie to me Hyeri, we've been in this situation for too long now."
"Maybe I did, why is that important?"
Gyuvin grew irritated by her lack of attention and glared at her. "He treated you perfectly did he not? That's how you talked about him to me. So why?"
"Why what?" She raised a brow.
"Two things." He put two fingers up with his eyebrows furrowed. "Why did you lie to me, and why did you try to kill him?"
"Woah." She chuckled lowly. "Me? Try to kill him?" Hyeri looked back up at Gyuvin and their eyes seemed to be at battle right now. "That's a wild claim. I wouldn't do such a thing. He planned his own death out and it failed, I was not involved."
He scoffed. "Well I did think it was weird how my basically sister got involved in a case that involved a guy you supposedly weren't that close with."
"Because you, your friends and Yunmi were involved?" She scoffed back. "Am I not allowed to defend my friends and 'basically brother' or is that also seen as suspicious?"
Gyuvin sighed and sat up straight to make a bold claim. "You attempted to kill him, didn't you?" His voice grew softer as if he was still trying to be nice about it. "The reason you got so involved into this situation was to hide what you did, isn't it?"
The girl raised a brow and groaned before replying to Gyuvin. "I didn't. But what exactly in the dream made you come to this stupid fucking realisation?"
"You want me to tell you?" He asked.
"You were drunk that night, Gyuvin." She rolled her eyes. "It's not true, but I do want to know what could have happened in that dream to make you think such things about me."
Gyuvin's hands gripped at his sheets in frustration, and at this moment he wished Yunmi were here to support him because he knew she would. He knew what he saw in the dream was true, and the evidence is already all out. "I was drunk, yes." He started, "But we both know I usually remember things the day after as well as the fact I didn't drink that much. Which is suspicious, no?"
She raised a brow. "How so?"
"Weren't you the one who gave us alcohol?"
Hyeri scoffed. "Well yeah I did, what about it?" She then acknowledged what Gyuvin was trying to imply about her. "Woah, you think I did something to the drinks?"
Gyuvin nodded and put his hand up to avoid her from speaking further. "I know it was you. I know you did something." His face dropped and he looked at her in disbelief. "Hyeri, what the fuck—"
Hyeri scoffed when Gyuvin's ringtone started to ring, causing them both to look down at the caller ID. "Your girl is calling you, why don't you answer?" She said bitterly.
As Gyuvin ignored Hyeri's response, he lifted the phone to the ear and listened to the voice that comforted him. "Yunmi?"
"I know who it is. I know you're with her. I need to speak to both of you, like right now." Yunmi said. Gyuvin put the phone on speaker and Hyeri looked down at it.
"Hyeri?" Yunmi's voice was shaky.
"Yunmi." Hyeri replied nonchalantly, yet there was a smirk on her face. Gyuvin clearly saw it and rolled his eyes at her behaviour.
"Both of you come to my house. It's important."
Gyuvin and Hyeri looked at each other. Gyuvin was hoping she'd say yes, just to know if she would tell the truth or not. "Okay, I'm guessing this is about Yejun."

— HAN YUNMI
Yunmi and the others sat awkwardly in her room, still trying to get used to each other after everything. She reread her notes about fifty times before spotting a gap in the information that they needed to find the true culprit. She cleared her throat and turned to her best friend. "Gunwook, when's Hyeri's birthday?"
The others were surprised by the question and stopped what they were doing to listen. "Sixth of August, 2004. Why?"
Yunmi wrote down that in numbers. 060804. "What's the two passwords for the backdoors, does anyone know?" She looked at the guys in hope. And thankfully, Hanbin walked in on time. Yunmi had invited everyone involved to her house besides Gyuvin's parents, and this is where she could say her full conclusion.
"408060 on weekdays, and 060804 on weekends, why?" He replied with a raised brow, "Have you found something Yunmi?
Suddenly, she dropped the pen and notepad. "I know who it is." Yunmi said on the table, catching the boys' attention. "I know who tried to kill Yejun." Everyone stopped what they were doing and the room went silent. "I'm 100% sure it's who I think it is." She stood up and paced around the house, causing the boys to all gather around her in shock.
"Who?" Taerae asked in concern.
She gulped before taking a deep breath. Yunmi looked up and all of their eyes were on her. "It's Hyeri."
"Wait— what?" Gunwook blurted out straight away. All of the others had their jaws dropped and eyes wide open. "How the fuck does a password make Hyeri guikty? Surely you're joking, you're joking right?"
"No, I'm sure that she's his ex girlfriend who he apparently cheated on me with." Yunmi sighed. "This was so obvious from the start, what the fuck. I feel played."
Gunwook sat up. "What bullshit are you making up Yunmi?" Ricky held him back and pat his back to calm him down, allowing Yunmi to speak more.
"It all makes sense, doesn't it now?" She raised a brow. "Who the fuck else would've been able to get into the school when the back door password is her fucking birthday? It's obvious. She lives in the fucking house of the principal of Chaeri and the principal and vice principal of Narae, she has every access to the things as much as she wants." She faced the boys to see if they understood, and it seemed as if the others were connecting the dots.
"But—" Gunwook said in disbelief. "No but that's it, you have no proof. Hyeri's innocent. I've been with her for so long and I know she wouldn't do that."
"Did you know they were exes?" Yujin asked. "I swear you told me you two have liked the same person."
He gulped. "Well, yeah. But we got over that. But still guys hear me out, it can't be Hyeri. Right? Hello? Someone talk?"
Ricky nodded. "I agree with Yunmi. I've been thinking that she was suspicious for a while now once I saw something in Hyeri's bag." The others all turned to him in confusion and surprise. "I saw Yejun's phone."
"You didn't say anything?" Hao raised a brow. "You saw Yejun's phone and brushed it off?"
"I mean I didn't realise it, I was just wondering why she had two phones. But once Yunmi mentioned this now, I realise it was."
"Wait, that makes so much sense." Hanbin stood up. "She hid it in the house, and removed her number before Gyuvin's mother could. That's why I found it."
"Well then it's Gyuvin's family's fault." Gunwook scoffed. "Be realistic right now."
The tension was strong and it was silent. All of their minds were full of conflict and confusion. Yunmi's sudden suspicion had driven everyone crazy. She was never a main suspect, but some certain things had added up.
"Not to mention, the fact the stupid notes I got given in my door were printed in Gyuvin's house - where she lived??? And the detectives said they don't even use Gyuvin's printer."
"Then Gyuvin did it." Gunwook argued.
"Sorry?" The many people crowded turned around saw a shocked Gyuvin and expressionless Hyeri walking towards them. "What did you just say?"
"Gyuvin—" Gunwook's eyes widened.
"Hyeri." Yunmi interrupted, walking up to the girl with an angry face. "Are you going to admit it?"
Hyeri gasped. "What, me?" Her hand fell to her chest, feigning an offended expression. "Don't tell me that you think I did it."
"I know you did something." Yunmi scoffed. "If I were you I'd either defend myself or admit it."
She started to laugh. The unexpected reaction caused Gunwook to run up to her. She smugly put an arm around him and fake wiped a tear. "Oh, Yunmi you're so fucking smart aren't you?"
"What do you mean?" Gyuvin retorted from the side.
She kissed Gunwook's cheek and smiled at Yunmi. "Yeah, I did it. And what?"
The room suddenly went quiet.
Gunwook let go of her and walked backwards speechless. He stood behind Yunmi and watched as the person he loved's eyes changed. He couldn't even say anything. No one could.
"Why do you all look mad at me?! I did you all a fucking favour. I tried to kill him because he was treating you all like shit!" She admitted, causing the crowd to stay silent. "What? Yeah he survived. I failed. And all of you are fucked. I did it for all of you."
"Fine. Since no one wants to fucking talk to me. I'll tell you. All of it was me." She shrugged. "I thought framing you all would be fun until Gyuvin told me he knew Yejun was alive." She clicked her tongue. "So I had to go back on my plan and frame his parents."
"What did you do to him?" Gunwook asked, breaking the silence. He was so panicked that Yunmi had to look back and hold his hand in order to comfort him. Gyuvin moved away from Hyeri and stood next to Hanbin , his hands shaking.
"I hurt him." She scoffed. "Duh. He's not fucking dead. I wish I killed him, but all of the body and statistics were forged."
"How?" Matthew asked with a gulp.
"Gyuvin's dad just set that thing up so people pay attention to his school and forget about the fact he was cheating on his wife. I knew it since I definitely did not hit him on the head or put him in some weird bag." She giggled, and her true colours started to show. A dark side to her that no one expected. "I stabbed him, that's it."
The silence was still so heavy, and it just led Hyeri to go on a full rant and confession. But little did she know, Hanbin was recording in his pocket. The truth was far more unexpected.
"Gyuvin told me he saw Yejun run off whilst bleeding." She pointed at the boy. "Ruined my plan, I don't even know why Yejun ran when it was his choice that he wanted to die or whatever."
"Gyuvin... knew? That he was alive?" Yunmi gasped, causing the others to turn to him. "What the fuck is wrong with you? You knew since the start? And even from the start you were boasting that he was dead. Did you two fucking plan this?"
"Look, Yunmi I–"
"Uh uh uh" Hyeri hushed the two. "No arguments. I'm not finished talking. Do you not want the background story or is that too freaky deaky for you?" She joked.
"You're an awful person." Jiwoong looked at her in horror. "How could you do such a thing?"
"Don't get me started on you, you're also involved. But anyway, back to the story. The only reason he came to this school was for me." She clicked her tongue. "Obviously I didn't want him anymore because I liked Gunwook. I just didn't expect him to fake be friends with you all, bestfriends with Gunwook and date Yunmi to make me jealous. Clearly it didn't work."
Yunmi gulped, and the other three boys connected the dots aswell. "But I don't understand, did you have to kill him for it? You're not explaining why you—" Gunwook shouted, which he rarely ever does to Hyeri.
And there it was. She lost it. "You're all so fucking stupid! I was doing you all a favour! He ruined your fucking life so why are you all so sad about him? Even though he's somehow alive, I still did something for the good. He's out of your lives and you're friends again. Isn't that what you all fucking wanted? My God..." She took a breath and glared at them.
"He was still a part of our lives though, a little part in us would still care for him, as bad as he was..." Ricky crossed his arms. "And I can't believe I'm saying this, but doing that was not a favour."
"Do you think I care? He dated Yunmi for fake, became bestfriends with Gunwook, treated both Gyuvin and Ricky like shit. He knew he wanted to get close to me. He even fucked around with Gyuvin's mother, then forced Gyuvin's dad to go date mine. He's messed up. So why can't you fucking forgive me??? He ruined everyone's lives."
"Hyeri, all of that is true. But you took it in the wrong way..." Gyuvin tried to speak softer. "This was not the way to go about it. Killing him was not it."
"Why the fuck are you suddenly acting like you didn't constantly talk about how you wish he were dead?" She scoffed in Gyuvin's face. "Lucky for you I was planning to go and kill your dad next after I successfully put the blame on him and your slutty mom after you guys."
And after her a million confessions of her horrific crimes and motives, the door opened once again, revealing an unexpected visitor.
"Yejun?"
