CHAPTER THIRTEEN: Interviews Four and Five: Kim Gyuvin and Park Gunwook

- KIM GYUVIN

Hanbin sat opposite Gyuvin and struggled to even look the boy in the eye. Now he had some more things he had to ask Gyuvin about and he doubted he would even tell the truth.

He took the phone out of his pocket and carefully placed it between them. The two exchanged no words and Hanbin sighed. "Interview Four: Kim Gyuvin."

"This is just going to be about your relationship with Yejun, and you only answer honestly." He looked Gyuvin in the eye with hard eyes to make sure this well known trouble maker doesn't start anything.

Gyuvin shrugged and crossed his arms. The first red flag - it was known that this behaviour could suggest the person feeling unwilling to open up and Hanbin cleared his throat before asking the first question.

"How did you become friends with Yejun? And what was it like from the beginning until the day he died?"

"We were never friends." Gyuvin replied blamkly. "He never liked me, I never liked him. It was like that for the years that he was in our group."

"Is there a reason for that?"

"You know this alre-" Gyuvin rolled his eyes.

"It's for the interview." Hanbin said, his voice unusually clear, indicating to Gyuvin that Hanbin wasn't playing around this time.

"Yeah, Yunmi." He bit the insides of his cheek. "I liked her a lot at that time, and he randomly joined our group saying he wants her and I hated him since."

"Because of a girl?"

He nodded. "Yes because of a girl. I'm not proud of it, but I had strong feelings for her, and it was clear he would do things to intentionally piss me ofd."

"Like?"

"Whenever I was around he'd just flirt with her and get all touchy with her. Always text the group photos of them hanging out. Oh and he'd come to me for 'Yunmi advice' which was the worst."

"Yunmi advice?" Matthew knitted his brows together. "You actually talked to him?"

He nodded. "Whenever he needed help to make Yunmi happy he'd come ask me and I'd help him."

"Did you give him actual advice?"

Gyuvin nodded. "Well yeah, if it was to make her happy then I'd do anything." He kept his arms crossed and sighed. "But there was more things to why we hated each other, Yunmi was just the main reason."

"Why else?" Hanbin questioned in interest. Everyone had suspected that it was just all about Yunmi between the two.

"He'd always try one up me in conversations with my own friends, slag me off to teachers so he would seem innocent, he just treated me like shit. Which was also how I treated him, except all I did was hate on him in secret. But I'd still try be respectful to his face for Yunmi's sake."

"And did you even retaliate to the way he treated you?" Gyuvin nodded with a guilty expression and Hanbin almost smiled from the fact that there was more evidence on this.

"Well my parents own both Chaeri and Narae.." He shook his head. "Well I lied to my parents about him and he was sent from Narae to Chaeri after last summer."

"Why?" Hanbin was just glad he would get the reason why Yejun actually moved, since Jiwoong himself didn't know.

"I told them he ruined the summer house. Basically, Gunwook had a party and the whole place was trashed and things like doors were broken and the house basically was falling apart just from that night." Hanbin nodded, recalling the way Ricky had mentioned this to Hao.

"I don't know who did it, I'm guessing it was some druggies who were at the party but I blamed it on Yejun." He sighed and finally unfolded his arms, making Hanbin relieved.

"So after that, they expelled him from Narae for 'intentionally ruining the summer house' and he was sent to Chaeri." Gyuvin explained.

Hanbin hummed. "You hated him that much?"

He scoffed. "I mean yeah, that's the only reason why I never cared for his... death. In all honesty he deserved it, and I will never change my mind."

Hanbin almost got chills and stopped the recording. "Thank you, um." He picked up the phone and awkwardly chuckled. "I'll get going."

gyuvin:

she however is absolutely wasted
anyway so what did you argue about

yejun:

yejun:

yejun:
are you two still coming to chaeri

gyuvin:
oh yeah we're in the car together
she's so angry it's kind of funny

yejun:
please don't come

gyuvin:
why are you so scared
we're not even going to do anything
yunmi's just mad and wants to talk to you

yejun:
no gyuvin, she doesn't. we argued about something and she said if i'd tell anyone she'd hurt me

gyuvin:
well we're almost there, and i doubt yunmi would do anything to you. she loves you so much doesn't she?

yejun:
gyuvin please don't
look at the date

gyuvin:
march 20?

yejun:
remember??
it's mine and yunmi's one year

gyuvin:
oh right

yejun:
i did what you wanted yesterday

gyuvin:
i already expected you to do it anyway, which is the main reason i'm with yunmi right now

yejun:
you are fucking weird
i did it already, can you just not come to me please? she's going to hurt me and you probably will too

gyuvin:
you did this to yourself, we all warned you
and you still ruined the friendships
yunmi and i are almost here

yejun:
you can't even get in
the gates and doors are locked

gyuvin:
are you that fucking slack
my dad owns the school you idiot
i have the keys and we're coming in

Z then gulped. They may have gone too far and had found out way more about the case than the actual detectives were.

i finished, there is a lot that we need to discuss after matthew finishes the interview

i'm thankful these interviews were successful

mine wasn't that successful
ricky can't seem to tell me more

if you think ricky won't tell you anything wait until you interview gunwook

hes so secretive it's annoying
he'll mention something and go 'nevermind'
it pisses me off so much you don't understand

matthew:
oh no i understand
it's frustrating but i need to go in now

jiwoong:
remember what my parents said about him being the most guilty, try briefly make him open up

- PARK GUNWOOK

Matthew and Gunwook were in an empty room and Matthew was preparing for the interview. He then turned to the younger boy with a small smile. "So, we agreed that before we question all of you on your whereabouts during the night of Yejun's dearh, we get interviews on your relationship with him."

Gunwook nodded in acknowledgment. "Is that what you guys were trying to do in the first place?"

Matthew nodded at him. "We were very focused on your friend group's relationship, but now we are prioritising the Yejun case and we need more honest information on Yejun's suspects."Matthew said, darting his eyes from Gunwook's dark ones to the table.

It was obvious that after Yejun's parent's interview and their suspicions on Gunwook, it made Matthew more nervous for evident reasons. Gunwook was also somehow the one who was the least engaging when it comes to these things.

"We have to get everything on the friend ship as soon as we can so we can focus on the death." He spoke, earning a slow nod from Gunwook. "Okay, we'll start now." Matthew then pressed the record button and Gunwook tensed.

"Interview Five: Park Gunwook." Matthew spoke softly and looked down at his paper. "This is about your relationship with Yejun." He started, "Okay, so how did you two become friends in the first place?"

Gunwook shrugged. "Ever since Yunmi invited him to the group." He put his hands together. "At first, we were all not fond of him. But I guess I was the only one out of the boys that gave the boy a chance."

"So, you didn't care about your status being changed after being best friends with someone seen as 'socially lower' than you?"

"I never viewed it that way." Gunwook said with a deep sigh. "The others did. I mean I do care about my reputation a lot but I never cared about the friends aspect of it."

"Then what aspects did you care about?"

"Relationships." Gunwook blurted out. "Not that it was a-"

Matthew then connected some dots. "I heard you had a girlfriend, am I allowed to guess that you can't tell anyone who it is because of your reputation?"

Gunwook furrowed his eyebrows and leaned back. "Yes, but can we please stop this conversation? I don't want to get into that and I won't be telling you who it is. Ask me another question. About Yejun."

Matthew nodded and looked back down. "Was Yejun aware of this secret relationship?" He still mentioned the relationship, but obviously adding Yejun into it too.

Gunwook almost groaned at Matthew still mentioned it but he nodded. "He found out a long time ago, only he and Yunmi knew who it was. But then he..." He hesitated for a second. "He threatened to tell people multiple times."'

"He did? Why?" Matthew watched as Gunwook began to fiddle with his fingers.

"Let me just say this to you, Matthew." Gunwook looked at him right in the face with a serious expression. "Yejun was not a good friend. He knows everything about all of us and was never scared to share it." He sighed and looked away. "He would always use it against us, and well.."

"Are you saying he blackmailed you or you did something to him?" Matthew asked, he couldn't even tell what Gunwook was trying to explain.

He ignored the question. "We were best friends, knew everything about each other." Gunwook then gulped. "We just made a promise to each other not to tell anyone about our motives for certain things."

"Like what?" Matthew was now finally getting somewhere with Gunwook and was keen on getting more things down about him if he was so guilty.

Gunwook still didn't look up. "Well mine is... secret. But Yejun had some bad intentions for dating Yunmi. All of us knew, but she never listened." He shuffled in the chair. "Because if we did..."

Matthew looked at the boy who seemed disturbed. "What?"

"If we did tell Yunmi his true intentions, he'd spread everything that we do." He looked up at the older in fear. "Do you know how bad that is for kids like us? We're a part of huge families, this shit being revealed is dangerous."

"Shit like what exactly?"

"You know, how Yunmi and I struggled with alcoholism." He shrugged. "I'm actually not sure what the secrets Ricky and Gyuvin had.. since we never spoke about that but Yejun knew to threaten me about my alcoholism and secret relationship if I did something to him."

Matthew sighed from the overwhelming information and put his hands on his head. "Okay, wait. So you were bestfriends with him, but he was a bad friend. The other boys hated him, but he had things against them? Why? And how?"

"I don't know. I honestly wish I did." Gunwook shrugged with a hurt voice. "But still, I don't know who killed him. But I could see why they would."

Matthew hummed. "But I just don't understand," He scoffed. "How come Yejun was your friend but disliked you guys enough to collect such information and use it against you?"

Gunwook clasped his hands back together. "I don't know either."

Matthew looked at his paper one more time. "Multiple people have mentioned that Yejun had things against everyone, but was your relationship and alcoholism really it? And did you ever retaliate to Yejun threatening to tell people?

Gunwook opened his mouth to answer, but he couldn't. "Well... well, uhm... yes the relationship was the main thing but there was nothing I did to um, stop it. " He was being more fidgety and couldn't sit still anymore. "Can we stop this now? Please?" His breath hitched and Matthew nodded before stopping the recording.

"Thank you, I'm so glad you spoke more." The bot was a bit disappointed that the interview wasn't that long but at least he got information.

Gunwook nodded. "Yeah. Can I leave?" The boy wouldn't even wait for the answer as he already stood up and sped away from the room.

i'll date her one year starting now march 20, 2023, and i'll break up with her in march 20, 2024

Z inspected every single message and took their phone out. "March twenty- Oh my God." They dropped their phone onto the ground and gulped. "That's the day of Yejun's death."
