Shining in Tatters
"GENOS!!!"
Your entire body went stiff with only tremors reverberated through it. You did nothing to hide the terror evident on your face.
Your horror increased when you heard Genos's quiet gasps as the acid deteriorated more of his metallic body. His mouth was wide open but couldn't let out the scream because of how intense the pain was. The only other audible sound in the room for you was the sizzling of the acid burning up into smoke.
You let out a muffled cry as you heard the sound of his body parts falling to the ground. But even the parts that were still on him didn't serve him any use because they were all melted and misshapen.
You were now openly crying as you stared back at his one widened gold eye. The outer sides of his face were peeling off exposing the muscle-like material and the wires and metal tubes beneath it.
You didn't feel it when you loosened your hold on the little girl and she scampered away with her parent. The only thing in your vision at the moment was Genos.
His head fell forward so that he was now looking at the ground but somehow his feet were so rigid they kept him upright. Your lips parted as you reached out for him. "G-genos...."
His entire torso was missing; the only things still barely hanging on there were the remnants of a structural left rib and a spine. A variety of torn up wires clung out of where his arms used to be. His shoulders also exposed more of the red muscle tissue embedded in him.
A scream ripped out of your lungs when the Sea King suddenly gripped what was left of Genos's golden hair and flung him into a wall. "NO!!!" All your logic had shut off to somehow process what was happening in front of you.
You were too slow to get away from the monster's hand grabbing your leg. The Sea King slammed you down onto his other side causing the floor to crack under the pressure. He repeated this action back and forth, and you felt more than a few bones breaking during the brutal beating. Once he was satisfied with your bruised, bloody body, he threw you on the same wall where Genos lay crushed into the stone.
Unable to lessen your momentum in time, you bumped into the cyborg and further pummeled him into the wall. But you weren't given the luxury of that pain for long because the Sea King returned with a fist lodging itself in your back. You would say it knocked the wind out of you but it was more like he punched the lungs out of your body. In fact, the force of his hit was so strong, it broke through the wall and caused you and Genos to fly out into the heavy rain.
You both violently rolled onto the wet ground. You coughed profusely once you came to a stop but were confused to feel something warm dripping down the side of your mouth. You touched it and held it up to your face. As lightning ignited the stormy sky, you found your fingers tinted red.
That's when everything hit you. You couldn't move your legs but you could feel the stinging pain, as if someone had been skinning you alive. The inside of your chest felt like fire and you were breathing extremely deeply. What was going on with your powers? Why weren't they stepping in to solve the issue?
"You two could've easily dodged my little ball of acid," You heard the Sea King over the roaring rain. There was a tremulous thud and you nodded your head to the side to see the monster standing over Genos. "Instead, you chose to sacrifice yourselves and save someone else. I never anticipated that."
"You're both fools, but I give you credit for giving me a few scratches," the Sea King boasted, his monstrous form showing in the rain. "Of course, they've already healed though."
"Now you die." You saw the beast gazing down at Genos like a bug to squash. The cyborg's body trembled, trying to move out of the way.
You grit your teeth, pushing back your mind's screams to stop, and forced your arms to lift you up. "Hey!" You let out a rough sounding shout. "You better kill me first because if you so much as give me one more minute to live, you'll live long enough to regret it."
The Sea King mouth curved into a wide grin. "Oh? We have someone with a death wish?"
"I killed your wife. You should have heard her screams as I roasted her alive," You offered a sick smile. You would buy Genos as much time as you could, even if it cost you your life.
"I will enjoy killing you. Or perhaps I'll torture you for the rest of your pathetic little life?" The Sea King snarled as he picked you up in a death grip. "Either way, you won't get away with murdering my beloved so easily."
Your face contorted into one of pain as he crushed your hips in his hand. You might not have a pelvis after this.
"Maybe....but I'm not so easy to break," You chuckled through wheezes.
You saw Genos glancing up at you out of the corner of your eye. There was a look of hurt in his eyes, but he couldn't do anything to prevent your fate. He was incapacitated beyond measure. His teeth felt like they were about to crack under the pressure he had them. "(y-y/n)...." Genos was able to drone.
You felt your organs being squeezed together as the Sea King tightened his hold on you to the extremes. You felt that any second your insides were going to become your outsides.
But just as you felt something rising in your throat, a voice rang out above the rainfall.
"JUSTICE CRASH!"
You heard the jingling of metal hitting the monster but it had hardly any effect on it. The Sea King turned to the subject of the noise in annoyance.
"I am the cyclist for justice, Mumen Rider!" You recognized the meek tone and the bicycle that was lying on the ground. You glanced over in surprise. Oh no....
He may be the top of his class but he's only a C Class hero! He can't take this beast on.
"Mumen....don't..." You groaned with a blood-filled cough.
But the helmet-wearing hero didn't listen. He let out a battle cry and ran towards the monster.
The Sea King sighed and rolled his eyes. "I'm getting real sick of you heroes."
Mumen aimed his fist at the King but it landed directly in his palm. He closed his fingers around Mumen's clenched hand and merely dropped him repeatedly on the floor. In between flings, the hero slipped out of his grasp and went flying across the wet stone. You glanced away, a deep sorrow etched on your features.
"My apologies, my killing you was interrupted," The Sea King said to you.
"Justice...Tackle!"
The monster glared down at Mumen. The cyclist was already beaten up enough as it was, why did he continue to attack?
He grit his teeth as he tried to wrap his arms around the beast. Blood poured down the side of his face and nose. "No one expects much—" The Sea King snarled as he swatted Mumen away with a forceful hit.
"....f-from me..." Mumen wheezed out. You saw him struggling to get back up. "They think a C Class hero won't be much help." He breathed heavily as blood spewed from his mouth. "I know that better than anyone!"
"I know....I'm too weak....for B Class..."
"What are you babbling on about?" The Sea King spat, but your swollen eyes were glued to the small-time hero.
"No one has to tell me I have no chance of beating you. I already know that!" Mumen continued. "But...I have to try anyway!"
"It's not about winning or losing!" The hero shouted courageously. "It's about me taking you on right here, right now!"
"I've had enough of your rambling," The Sea King growled. "It's time to finish you for good."
And despite all the odds against him, all the certainties that assured 100% that he wouldn't make it out of that fight, one soul voice spoke above them.
"You can do it!" The voice of a child shouted from inside the building. "You're the Cyclist for Justice! I believe in you!" And that one being set off other hearts.
"Yeah! You get him, Mumen!"
"We're counting on you!"
"Get him!"
"Beat him up!"
The crowds silence roared to life with encouraging words. They only had one hope, and even if it was impossible, they chose to put that hope in Mumen.
The jeers of the people ignited the hero's spirit. He cried out victoriously and charged for the monster. In one of the most gallant efforts you had ever seen, Mumen punched with the strength of his heart.
But the Sea King swung once and it was over.
The punch launched Mumen off the Association property and onto the lone road with a sickening impact. "No...." You croaked.
"I think not!" The Sea King grinned in a grotesque manner.
You listened for the slap of Mumen's body hitting the ground, but I never came. You dared to look over, but what you saw spread a sense of relief through you.
"Saitama...." You whispered, a smile forming on your lips. Your bald hero had caught Mumen before he fell with one arm.
"You did great. Nice fight," Saitama said kindly to the fallen hero.
"Yet another piece of garbage washed up on my shore?" The Sea King scowled and tossed you aside. "Excuse me while I take it out." You fell like a ragdoll on the ground.
Saitama's eyes widened. He hardly recognized your body. "(y/n)? H-hey, you're alive right?" He glanced over and saw that Genos was all torn up as well. "What the hell happened!?"
Your inhale was ragged but it was enough to let him know your pulse was still going. Genos was the only one of you two who could speak at the moment. "Sen....sei..."
Saitama sighed and shook his head. "Man, it's like I can't leave either of you two alone. Well, in any case, let me kill this seafreak and then we'll go home." Lightning struck the sky shadowing Saitama's facing in a more menacing expression.
"I heard that!" The Sea King roared as he suddenly appeared behind the bald hero with a punch to his head.
But the only thing he caused was Saitama's head to wobble like a bobble head while smoke dissipated from the spot. The bald hero's dull eyes didn't change but he now wore a frown of annoyance.
Now that Saitama was here, there was no doubt in your mind that the day was saved. The only question going through your bruised head now was: were you going it live long enough to see it?
Hey guys sorry I haven't been keeping up to date. I'm back in school and it's a hassle trying to fix things there and write at the same time. For now, I think I'm in the clear now :)
