Pounding the Pavement
It's been 5 days since (y/n) and I debuted as professional heroes, and so far nothing major has happened.
It's normal for me not to have anything to do.
However, there is one thing bothering me.
Genos came again today.
"Oh hi," You greeted strangely from the door. Saitama heard a few exchange of words between you two from the living room when you called out, "Uh, 'Tama, Genos wants to ask you something...."
Saitama glanced from his manga as he saw a huge form make its way into the house. He blinked in surprise when he saw it was the cyborg carrying a very large backpack that nearly took the entire space in living room. You scrambled out from behind Genos with an expression showing you were just as shocked.
He then dropped the hefty backpack to the floor with a hard thud. "May I live here?"
Saitama glanced between you and the cyborg, but you only shrugged unsure. "Absolutely not."
Genos then produced a great wad of cash and slammed it on the table. "I will pay rent."
Saitama's expression didn't change but his mind sure did. "Did you bring a toothbrush?"

"You money guzzler," You said as Genos got his stuff packed God knows where. You and Saitama were in the kitchen speaking of the current status of things.
"Well it wouldn't hurt to have another helping around here with the bills," Saitama replied.
"Yeah, because that's totally why you said yes," You rolled your eyes. "What are you going to do when he begins to realize that your training isn't helping him?"
"I know, I know. I don't have a single thing to teach him. I feel like I'm scamming him or something, but what else am I supposed to do!?" Saitama said in exasperation. "There's gotta be something! What if I make up some techniques or a spiritual theory?"
"Tell him the truth," You stated.
"What? That strength training is all I got? He's hell-bent me teaching him though!"
"Yeah, and that was me at some point too. But I told him the truth and he accepted it," You threw up your hands for further effectiveness.
"No, (y/n). I'm already in too deep, I can't back out now," Saitama shook his head. "Ugh....I'm gonna try my best to help this guy despite him being a cyborg and that my strength won't aid him a bit."
"Grubby hands," You whispered indignantly.
"You know, I don't need you're snide comments." But you still gave him a disappointed look.
Saitama sighed and turned to you. "If I promise not to use the money will you stop?"
You raised an eyebrow at him. "You're not going to spend the money? Really?"
"Scout's honor," Saitama laid a hand on his chest and the other was raised in the air.
You gave him a short look before rolling your eyes once more. "Alright, fine. Let's see if you can keep your promise."
After that, you went into the bathroom to change into some more decent clothes. When you came out, you found a shirtless Saitama (you still weren't used to that) reading manga and Genos stiffly seated with a notebook in front of him at the table.
"What you writing over there?" Saitama questioned.
"I'm recording the details of your lessons and training regimen," Genos responded. He then glanced to you and scribbled something in his notebook. "You seem to prefer those types of shirts more often."
"Oh, uh, I guess so..." You said. You looked over to Saitama and saw him frowning deeply whilst holding the bridge of his nose. He caught your gaze and gave you an alarmed, questioning expression. You only shrugged and gestured towards the cyborg.
But before either of you could address him, Genos spoke. "By the way, according to the seminar, if a C Class hero remains inactive for a week they'll be dropped from the Hero Registry. Will you and (y/n) be alright?"
You and Saitama broke out into a cold sweat. "WHAT!?"
"They said that!?" Saitama exclaimed.
"Yes," Genos answered. You noted that the black, sleeveless turtleneck he wore looked really nice on him and reminded yourself to compliment him later.
"But nothing has happened these past couple of days," You frowned. "It's been pretty quiet actually."
"The media only reports major incidents, such as natural disasters requiring evacuation, terrorism, and the appearance of dangerous monsters," The cyborg explained. "There are tons of C Class heroes so the Association weeds out the lazy ones with this time limit."
"You two may not be aware of this since you've only confronted super villains and evil organizations, but C Class heroes mainly pursue purse snatchers, robbers, and street assailants," Genos continued. "I hear many grow discouraged and switch careers."
"If they don't pound the pavement and drum up results like a salary man, no one pays attention to them."
"This is no time to be reading manga!!" Saitama shouted as he leapt to his feet and started pulling on his yellow hero suit.
"Shit!" You cursed, grabbing your phone and jamming it in your pocket.
"Shall we go then?" Genos said, also standing up.
"You stay here!" Saitama instructed. "If an S Class is seen with a couple of C Classers, you'll get the credit for everything!" You couldn't disagree with that logic. You also liked this job and didn't want to get fired so soon.
"But as your pupil—"
You looked at him sadly. "Genos—"
But then Saitama jumped in with a cooler voice than before. "Genos," He addressed confidently. "From the beginning my intense desire to become a hero was what drove me to strength training. Perhaps if you too live aiming for the heights of hero-dom something will change."
"To put it bluntly, you're a cyborg so physical training won't do. Instead, a change of mindset may lead you to greater strength."
You were so stunned by Saitama's words of wisdom you almost believed them. Almost.
You could hear his heart beat a bit faster as he bullshitted his way through trying to convince Genos to stay behind.
"In other words, it's not about having raw power or technique; it's about training your mind. Train your spirit before your worrying about strength through power or technology. To do that, you must fight your way through the professional hero industry. Aim to break into the top ten of the S Class heroes. That will be your goal for now."
"I understand," Genos nodded diligently. "I will strive to achieve it!"
Saitama rushed you along the corridor towards the door. "Right, give it your all!"
Once you two were outside, the bald man sighed with relief. "He bought it.....sweet."
"Yeah, yeah, come on. We gotta go," You said, smacking his arm and starting on a light jog.
"No time! Faster!!" He urged, grabbing your wrist and taking off down the streets. "W-wait!!" You exclaimed.

After that, you two raced around. While frantically searching for bad guys, you guys ran, and ran, and ran everywhere.
However......the city was peaceful.
"Ugh....I give up," Saitama heaved with his hands on his knees. "We've only got one day left!"
"There's gotta be some person around here causing havoc," You huffed, wiping the sweat from your brow.
"Let's just go home," Saitama suggested. "I'll leave tomorrow's problems for tomorrow's me."
"And possibly get fired? Sounds great," You said in a negative tone, but that was only because you were tired and hungry.
"Come one, you deadbeat downer," Saitama hooked you under his arm and ruffled your hair. "You're just grumpy 'cause you haven't had your nap."
You stuck your tongue out at him. "You booty."
"Whatever," He smiled.

Aside from your new roommate, things were relatively normal back home. You were about to flop onto your futon and crawl into a fetal position when your cell phone buzzed. You took it out of your pocket and read the display.
You had received an anonymous greeting through text. You stared at the message briefly before responding back.
Hello?
It's me, Sonic.
Ah, so that's who it was.
Oh hey what's up?
I'm still holding you to the end of your bargain.
Okay...?
And I want us to meet up.
When? You typed back curiously.
Tomorrow.
You groaned. Tomorrow was your last day to look for troublemakers! But you also acknowledged your promise and sighed as you replied, Where and what time?
School's a pain, good thing it's over in two weeks. I must survive! Haha hope you guys liked it :P
