Giant Meteor

You walked into the living room where Saitama was lounging around reading the newspaper that Genos had subscribed to while the cyborg was browsing on his laptop. You sat down with them and set the black egg you found the other day on the coffee table.

"Genos, do you still have that little incubator that Dr. Kuseno gave you?" You asked.

"Yes," He replied, grabbing it from a shelf and handing it to you.

"I know it doesn't like to be in it, but I can't keep it warm all the time," You said as you placed it inside the sleek black box.

"Let me see it." Saitama motioned for you to give it to him. He took out the egg and it lit up bright red. "I still can't get used to that."

"Well I guess it's your turn to watch over it, then you can pass it on to Genos," You shrugged.

"Sensei, I filled in the holes in front of the house," Genos said, referring to the potholes caused by Ground Dragon (AKA the mole) when he tried to capture you and Saitama.

"Oh thanks, man."

You looked over Saitama's shoulder and read a brief section on the events from the other say involving the seaweed monster you encountered. Apparently, the two heroes you had stumbled upon when you saw the monster were pretty well known. The unconscious one was A Class, Rank 29 Golden Ball and the other one who had passed out in front of you was A Class, Rank 33 Spring Mustachio. Below that article was one titled Pervert Ninja Raising Havoc Captured in Broad Daylight. You giggled at the picture they chose to feature of the 25 year old causing panic. Sonic had a sneaky grin on his face while right next to the image were words such as creepy or weirdo.

"Also, yours and (y/n) ranks have gone up," Genos informed. "Sensei's from 387th to 342nd and (y/n) from 388th to 321st."

"Whoa how did you get so high?" Saitama raised an eyebrow.

"I kicked ass the other day you didn't want to quit shopping," You grinned with wink.

"Must have really been trouble since you moved up quickly and came back with bloody clothes," Saitama said. "So that must mean that I went up because of that Panic guy?"

"Sonic," You corrected.

"Whatever, as long as he boosted my ranking."

"What about you, Genos? It's been a week, have you done anything?" You asked.

"No, not yet," He responded. "I'm still ranked last in 17th for ability in S Class."

"Sounds like you still have a lot of training to do, Genos," Saitama smiled smugly as he took a swig of his tea.

"But in the public polls, for popularity I rank 6." This cause Saitama spit out his tea. "But why!?"

"Ooh, popularity polls?" You asked curiously.

The cyborg nodded and began reading off the comments. "Expect much from this genius who debuted as S Class at the young age of 19; He'll do great; His face is gorgeous; He's so handsome; I love how he refuses to do media interviews, very cool; He's my cyborg prince; A sense of fragility under steely expression; Among the top five best-looking heroes."

"And so on," Genos said, gazing up your surprised faces.

"You're not embarrassed to read those aloud?" Saitama questioned.

"These comments are based on impressions from my photo, not evaluations of me. I think nothing of them," He answered with monotone expression.

"Right...of course..." Saitama sighed. He shouldn't have expected any less from Golden Boy Genos.

Genos eyes widened slightly by something on the webpage. "(y/n), you're on here too."

"I am?" You went over by his side and skimmed the screen excitedly. "Where?"

"Normally, C Class heroes don't make it to this list but Heroine (y/n) sure deserves to be. After fighting a Level Demon threat by unknown means, she rocketed in popularity. No one knows how she did it but it is rumored she has an extraordinary power that the Hero Association doesn't know about," You read aloud. You flushed at the comments below the text.

"She'll be at S Class in no time," Genos kept reading once you stopped. "What exactly are her powers? She's probably just trying to rise up the ranks; Hummingbird did all the work; Why is she so popular? She's just a scrawny C Class; As soon as guys see a pretty face, they fly off their rockers; She's just stealing Hummingbird's spotlight."

"Wow, tough crowd." Saitama gave you a sympathetic look.

Genos's expression darkened when he scrolled down. "It seems like you attracted some bad attention." You gasped at the following comments that Genos read off.

"She's smoking hot! I'd take a piece of that action; With tits and an ass like hers it's no wonder she got popular; Jesus, she's fine as hell; She's a solid 10; Hottest Heroine by far; I'd play cops and robbers with this hero." From there it only got more and more vulgar.

"Such vile people," Genos glared menacingly. Saitama also had an intense look of annoyance. "Forget about them, (y/n). They're just people with nothing better to do."

"Oh god, I'm first!" You exclaimed in horror.

"WHAT!?" They both said in disbelief but sure enough right next to your image was a shiny number 1.

"Maybe this will die down soon, it has to," You reasoned with yourself.

Just then, Genos's phone began to ring. He excused himself and headed off to the kitchen.

"Don't stress about this." Saitama tousled your hair. "Someone's always a critic on the internet." You nodded mutely.

"The Hero Association wants me to come in for some reason," Genos announced when he came back into the room.

"Oh, maybe you're getting fired?" Saitama joked with a chuckle.

Genos then glanced over to you. "Do you want to come?"

"Me?" You blinked. "I don't know...I don't want to intrude..."

"It doesn't matter, you'll be with me," He said, offering you a hand up which you took. "Alright, but if I get in trouble it's your fault," You warned.

"I have to make a quick stop at Dr. Kuseno's to pick something up first," Genos said once you two were outside.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you guys got to the doctor's place, you found him huddled over a piece of machinery with tools in his hands.
"Doctor, I'm here to pick up the prototype," Genos said immediately upon arrival.
"It's by the repair shelf," The old man murmured gesturing towards the area. As he did so, he saw you out of the corner of his eye. "Ah, (y/n), it's nice to see you again."
"Hi," You greeted shyly.
"How are things with you and Genos?"
"Hm? Okay, I guess. Why do you ask?"
"Call it a scientist's curiosity," He shrugged with a smile. "Where are you two off to?"
"I was summoned by the Hero Association," Genos responded for you.
"Only you?"
"Yes."
"Then why is Miss (y/n) going?" Kuseno inquired in confusion.
"I wanted to bring her along," Genos replied honestly. You eyed the black briefcase he was carrying with intrigue. "Come on, we should get going." You nodded and waved goodbye to the doctor as the cyborg gave him a curt nod.
Once you guys were out of sight, Kuseno shook his head in worry. "I don't know if I should be concerned for you or happy for you, Genos...."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As you guys were getting closer to your destination, you turned to Genos. "Hey, Genos?"

"Yes?"

"Why did you want me to come?"

"Well..." He gazed at the sidewalk as you two walked. "I felt guilty for exposing you to those horrible comments. I thought this might get your mind off of them."

You beamed up at him softly. "That's really sweet of you, Genos. Thank you."

A smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "Of course."

"It looks like a ghost town in here," You mused when you guys got the City Z's Hero Association building. The whole place appeared to be shut down and only the light from the glass entrance illuminated the lobby.

"Ah, you must be Genos."

You and the cyborg both whipped around to the voice that turned out to be a thin old man. He had a hunch to his back while his hands were folded behind his back. "I am Bang, it's a pleasure to meet you." He then eyed you peculiarly. "And who are you?"

"Um, (y/n), I'm sorry for interrupting," You apologized and shook his hand.

'Bang, S Class, Rank 3, AKA Silver Fang.' Genos recognized the person. 'He possesses true skill.'

"The Association called me in. (y/n) was accompanying me," Genos stated.

"Everyone in the Association has evacuated. This branch office is empty," Bang said with an almost humorous look. "All of the S Class heroes called to come here, however we are the only two that came."

"No wonder this place looks abandoned," You muttered.

"Why is that?" Genos inquired.

"I suppose the others were too far away or busy. Some probably just couldn't be bothered," Bang said. "After all, we're called up only when there's some impossible task that they want us to take care of. Today's no exception."

"What exactly is going on?" You questioned, not liking that they were sending out their heroes to do something where there was no chance of winning.

"A crisis of the worst kind, threat Level Dragon, is upon us," Bang informed. "35 minutes from now, a huge meteor will strike City Z. They are asking if nearby S Class heroes can do anything about it."

"A meteor!?" Genos exclaimed.

"You're right....that is insane," You breathed out, but there had to be at least a slim chance that there was a hero capable of stopping it.

"Apparently, the meteor suddenly steered off its path. The impact will wipe out City Z and its surrounding cities. If it is successfully stopped however, the Hero Association's status will rise and donations will pour in. That may be their true goal. But it's impossible."

"I'm afraid there's nothing we can do this time. You both should evacuate with your loved ones."

"Does the populace know?" Genos questioned.

"They planned to issue an evacuation warning to the impact area 30 minutes beforehand. The reports must be going out about now."

"What!? That's not nearly enough time!" You yelled in alarm.

"I know," Bang grinned with a laugh. "It'll be mass panic!"

"Attention! This is an announcement from the Hero Association." The loud speakers scattered throughout the city could be heard from inside the building you guys were in.

"And what are you going to do, old man?" The cyborg asked. "Genos..." You scolded him for the lack of respect he showed.

"Address me as Bang," the man chortled.

"Are you going to evacuate?" You questioned with concern.

Bang shook his head. "My dojo has been in my family for generations. I must remain behind." He suddenly rotated to you two striking a fighting stance with a quickly swipe of blue trailing from his fingers. "Fist of Flowing Water Crushing Rock! Heard of it?"

But the martial artist was met with silence. "They're gone...."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"What are we going to do?" You asked as you ran alongside the cyborg.
"Emergency evacuation warning. The threat level is Dragon. Evacuate immediately. 21 minutes until meteor impact. Experts predict total destruction of City Z and damage to neighboring cities."
He abruptly grabbed you by the waist and blasted off toward the rooftops. "Keep running!" He said once he set you down again. But you didn't need to be told. You were already leaping from ledge to ledge to get to the next roof.
"All those people..." You spoke quietly, catching quick glances of the citizens just standing around awaiting the meteor. It still looked like a dot in the sky for now.
"They've given up hope already," Genos finished for you.
"They called the evacuation too late," You dejected solemnly.
"Tch." You looked over at Genos and saw him staring intently at his briefcase. "I didn't expect to be testing this prototype so soon."
He then clicked the button on the handle and it beeped ignited a small screen that read, 'Arms Mode'. Genos then threw the briefcase to the skies where it opened up and began shifting around to create a pair of bulky, bronze metal arms. The cyborg inserted his arms into the set and they clamped shut with a bright blue electrical charge.
He was way up in the sky air so you waited in the area where he would land in order for you guys to push on. Genos spun all the way down and slammed down in a stable stance. That's where you noticed that not only were the mechanical arms attached to his limbs but crawled up onto the sides of his face.
"Let me see if I can intercept the meteor with my incineration cannons at full power," Genos said, gazing down at his metallic hand which he clenched. "You and Sensei live in this town too. I cannot possibly evacuate with you two here."
"Maybe there's something I can do too," You replied, getting a crazy idea.
You shuddered as you summoned your wings to sprout from your back. They slit through the fabric of your shirt and extended outwards at a large span. You had to bite your lip as they filled in any error in the DNA to make sure they were in pristine condition. Just protruded them from your flesh was agonizing.
"What can you do?" Genos asked as he gazed at the beautiful feathers that ruffled in the wind. He was slightly distracted by the way the air swept through your hair giving you an almost angelic look.
"I can use my telekinesis to push back the meteor, although I'm a little rusty," You apologized. You had never moved something of that mass; you could hardly move a boulder. But there were people counting on you; people's lives were on the line. "Aim for the meteor's lower region while I push it from the top."
Before he could argue, you had already jumped off the roof and flown away.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Genos's systems flared as they sensed something approaching at great speeds. He whipped around and saw a huge hulking piece of metal heading towards him. The mask it wore held three ruby red eyes.

"Is that...?" He gasped as it flew past him. Genos chased after it while it zoomed in the area until it landed on a spot looking over to meteor.

"You're Bofoi, correct?"

The giant mass of metal turned to the cyborg. "And you're the new boy, Genos. Have you come to stop the meteor?"

"Yes," He responded. 'S Class, Rank 7. A hero who uses intense firepower to obliterate his enemies along with everything within their vicinity. Does he also live in City Z? Or did he rush here, putting his life at risk?'

"Bofoi, work together with me," Genos said. The chance of stopping the enormous rock would increase if there were more people involved.

"No," the voice from the machine droned.

"Why?" Genos questioned immediately.

"I only came to field test my new weapon. The meteor is a convenient target."

"Test? This is not the time! If that meteor strikes you will perish as well," Genos reminded.

"I won't die."

"What?"

"What you are talking to right now is a remote controlled robot," the voice explained. "Sorry to disappoint you, but my life's not at stake here. No meteor's killing me."

"And do not call me Bofoi. I am 'Metal Knight'," The machine said briskly. "Heroes address each other by their hero names. That is common sense."

A rough booming sound suddenly fell upon the two. "Looks like it's time to end this little chat," Metal Knight concluded.

Genos scoffed staunchly and took off toward the direct spot where the meteor would strike. "Alright! This is it." The cyborg gasped remembering you were still trying to push back the meteor. "Metal Knight's weapon...!"

"Launching missiles!" He heard the shout from below.

Genos's eyes went wide. "NO!"

Several missiles flew past him and sky rocketed to the meteor. For a split second, he thought about shooting them down but he didn't want to risk accidentally hitting you. Genos clenched his jaw and bawled up his fistful of energy surging to his arm, releasing it. "....Damn it!" He seethed, but glanced up at the sky with worry. "(y/n)!!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your wings flapped harshly against the current to get to the enormous rock that filled your vision the closer you got. You could feel the intense heat from the thing just from being a few feet from it. It was hard to believe you had to actually touch to commence the plan.
Scalding debris scraped across your skin as you closed in on it. You grunted when you slammed into the meteor. A numbing sensation near the surface of your hands crawled onto your skin and you pressed it to the meteor. Immediately, you felt the energy encasing the rock. You strained to expand it and maintain stable flight as the feathers on your wings began to sear off. Nonetheless, you worked over time to heal quickly and fight against the meteor.
The deafening sound blocked anything from reaching your ears as well as your frustrated cries to try and keep your strength up. When you finally felt the entire rock within your grasp, you began shoving it back with all your force. Your shoulder got scorched terribly while you used it to push. It felt like the flesh was being burned off and you were pretty sure it was bleeding profusely by the sensation running down your arm.
But it was working. Your telekinesis was hard to manage but it was forcing the meteor back. It required a lot on your mental state to focus energy into this and on your deteriorating body, however the job was being accomplished.
Where was Genos though?
Maybe he already fired his cannons and had no effect? You questioned with yourself. If I can just accumulate enough energy, I can probably kick this thing out back into orbit. You were confident in this. You would be completely demolished after the task was done but it would get done.
Just when you were about to put the idea into motion, your vision suddenly exploded with color. You screamed as flames licked at your body. You felt all this in one instant, all the pain, burning, bleeding in one swift strike.
After that, everything went black.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Genos shielded his eyes as the missiles made contact with the meteor and exploded causing the sky to light up brightly. When the illumination disappeared and the soft tremors on the ground ceased, he found that all that was looming overhead was a huge black cloud.

Genos looked around the shroud for your form but saw nothing. "No...." He said in disbelief. "No, it can't be....she didn't..." His heart raced as his eyes flashed golden and searched the skies diligently for you. "(y/n), no..."

He gasped aloud when his sights spotted a figure falling not too far from him. "(Y/N)!!!" He shouted as he took off. Genos flew towards your body and pulled you into his chest as he spun you two around. After that, it wasn't long until you both fell back down on the building, denting it greatly due to Genos having landed on his back with you on top of him.

"(y/n)? (y/n)!" Genos laid you on the floor and hovered over you. His concern was etched all over his face.

You flesh was severely scorched even as your body worked to repair it. Your wings were completely burned off and all that was left of them were the fragile bones that were already breaking off. And despite all that, you groaned.

"(y/n)!" Genos cried out on relief. "Can you breathe? Talk to me..."

You wanted to say something but you were so numb and tired you didn't want to move. Instead, you tried to nod and that in itself was agonizing.

'Such destructive power....' Genos glanced at Metal Knight. 'He is a dangerous man. I must be wary.'

All of sudden, a thundering sound could be heard in the sky. Out of the thick black clouds came the blazing red meteor. Genos's eyes widened in alarm.

"Not quite potent enough, huh?" Metal Knight droned.

'Approximately 33 seconds left until impact,' Genos estimated with his bionic eyes. 'To fire my incineration cannon at full power, I need 5 seconds to charge it with my body's energy.' He glanced down at you with an unsettling feeling stirring in his chest. 'But the target is already close. I can't get her out of here in time.'

'Will my weapons be powerful enough to stop it? Even Metal Knight's missiles had no effect.' Genos argued with the possibilities. 'And if I do take it out? What then? The meteor may break apart and still cause a disaster...'

"Genos..." You croaked touching his foot hesitantly. His whole body was crackling with sparks of electricity.

"You've lost your composure." A voice from behind him spoke. You let your head roll to the side and saw bang approaching you guys. He cast you a sympathetic glance. "I told you to take your loved ones and leave but you refused to listen."

"You both are far too young to worry about failure," Bang said. "When your back's against the wall, muddle through. The outcome won't change, so that's best."

"Muddling through is best...?" Genos muttered under his breath.

After a short pause, he knelt down and grabbed your hand tenderly. "I promise, I will get you out of here," He whispered to you. The small smile on your face along with the stray tear that followed gave him courage to stand up and fight the odds.

Genos gripped the side of his hoodie and tore it off in one go. You blinked in surprise, confusion and embarrassment. As much as you liked the view, what the hell was he doing??

'I won't die before giving it my all,' Genos thought as he opened the compartment in his chest where his core lay hidden. You gasped slightly as he pulled out the shining orb and inserted it into his bicep. As soon as he placed it there, his arms began reverberating with a bright electrical charge. "(y/n), Bang, get down!!"

'I will no longer think about failures or repercussions! I will just pour absolutely everything I have into one last shot!!' You summoned what was left of your energy and seeped it into Genos's attack. Your current of electricity flowed through him and caused his eyes to glow a fiery gold.

He thrusted his incinerator into the air and it went off in a rumbling boom. He shouted furiously as he pushed his body to counter the meteor. You were filled with a sensation of pride while you watched his burning light overflow in the sky.

His screams of effort soon turned into yell of frustration as he felt no movement from the meteor. "It's no use!" He growled loudly.

"No!" Bang interjected as he gazed up at the scene. "I think I t may be slowing down!"

"Really!?"

"Oh no, nevermind, it was just my imagination."

"DAMN IT, OLD MAN!"

"You're doing your best, Genos. It's okay." You sat up and tried to get to your feet so you could help, even if it did seem impossible at the moment.

'Will this be my grave?' Genos spared a glance at you. 'I couldn't protect you....I wanted to protect you...'

The great beam of light suddenly died out with a crackle of flames and sparks. The cyborg fell to his knees with various coughs of smoke spewing out of his mouth. The hand he had been attacking with was bent out of shape and piping hot red.

"Genos!" You cried out, bracing his shoulders which were sulking. You noticed how the core in his arm flickered with small charges of light.

"Get out of here...(y/n)..." Genos dejected in exhaustion. His arms mode chipped off the side of his face. "Nine seconds left. Bang, take her and run..."

Before you could protest, another voice came.

"Old man, take care of these two for me." You turned to them incredulously. "Saitama!" You spoke barely above a whisper.

"Wh-who are you?" Bang questioned in surprise.

"I'm just a guy who's a hero for fun," The bald man stated. Then, he leapt off the building with a deafening crack.

You help Genos up as you both stared at the sky in amazement. "Sensei!?"

"Always here in the nick of time," You giggled excitedly.

"You're not gonna fall on my town!!!" You heard Saitama shout as he launched his punch straight into the meteor. As soon as you saw the rock begin to crumble and shatter in various places, you knew he had shot clean through the massive earth. The sky began to hail boulders that spread outward into the city.

"He broke it!! Unbelievable!" Bang exclaimed wide eyed. "But..."

The building began to tilt as the meteor pieces struck down. Genos instinctively grabbed you and looked around for a safe place. "It's collapsing! We have to..." He groaned. The blast had taken a serious toll on him.

"Grab her and I'll get you both out of here," Bang said as he swooped in and carried you both off. You stared at the whole city as the rocks rained down. "It's—"

"A wave of destruction," Bang stated. "But....it could've been worse."

I'm tired....sorry for the late-ish update :/
