"It's really you, right?"
The question caught him off guard and it really made no sense to him. He didn't know what else to say and so he settled with a simple, "Of course," to reply to her question.
"What's wrong?" he finally thought to ask.
He wanted her to answer him. There was something wrong -- he was sure of it. The way her fingers played with the sleeves ofer sweater, the way she bit her lip, the way she kept looking nervous or afraid. They all told him that she was anything but okay. What he wanted was for her to be able to confide in him.
But it didn't seem like she was ready to do that.
"It's nothing."
It's nothing, she said. It was what she always said. But it was clear that it was not nothing.
"I don't think it's nothing." He wanted answers. Hr eanted her to stop pushing him away.
"Well, it's none of your business anyway," she said with a shrug.
She tried to play it off with nonchalance but he saw right through the facade.
"What's wrong, Eun Mi?" he asked again.
A tear escaped and slid down her cheek. It took her a while but finally she spoke.
"Everything."
