This is where our paths split

𝔐y confession: I do not want to live here anymore, not among the goldenrod, wild onions, or the no grassy fields, not the people housed in run-down tenements. Not even in the old tobacco weigh station we live nearby, with its heavy metal safe doors that frame our bricked house like the mouth of a strange beast yawning to suck us in, each night, like air. I denied it, my wish to live at a new place, less poorly than right now. Yet, I was so scared to explore what's not made for me to seek— offered too much food that I actually need, or getting dressed up like a doll you would've loved to play with as a child.

Of all things, I wondered about on this land. I was wondering the hardest about the seduction of certain geographies that feel like home; never by story or blood but by their forms and colors. How our perceptions are our only internal map of the world, how there are places that claim you and places that warn you away. We consume so much, now perhaps we don't know what it means to exist as something unsellable. The flowers I plucked out for my mother are dead, and I had to give up my journaling because I can not stop writing for the people who would read it after I've perished ever away.

So I am always between two worlds, always in conflict. I would like something to rest, be at peace, to choose a nook, make a final choice, but I can't.

I was dirty, alright, so infinitely dirty. This is why I scream so much about purity. No one sings as purely as those who inhabit the deepest and most disturbed hell—what we take to be the song of angels is their song. With them, the Careers, my bitterness was only practicing: how could my once childish hands do something truly great? Can the rage of a girl do this? Now, I am Joanna. But my nature has grown as does my suffering.

(....)

And yet, there was a strange beauty about her, what Cato sees, a decaying, desiccated beauty but it held his gaze for all that. She does not seem to truly belong with those dried flowers in her, those flowers people used to press between pages, or with a bowl of old potpourri that exudes a faint, sweet, still ghostly scent when it's disturbed. Most of all, he knew they were going to suck away her fiercely and most kindly heart she offers. She was utterly different from the spectrum of a victor, or simply as a fantastic tribute.

His lover (supposedly) owned pretty, predatory blue eyes. Her hands and her skills couldn't be doubted, she loved to give him a toothed smile and a glance: Glimmer Belcourt. As for the other girl— her eyes are kinder and the greenness in her eyes took you back to a nice meadow. It reminds anybody of what could've been peaceful there, but isn't. She had healer's hands, too, and her sun-warm demeanor remains unchanged. It was impressive what she could do, persuading a crowd holding hands with own selfishness, to bid away humanity just for her. It's a very rare gift given, for free as well, but she didn't believe in pity.

She's smart, for sure. Cautious.

Joanna Hobbs was the only divine thing he's ever believed in. The only creature in this vast, cruel land who could kill him within and deeper than anyone else can. And sometimes, in his loveliest fantasies, he imagines she does. If not like two hands on a sword's blade, she'll determine the direction and he'll provide the force; the orange haired girl was the visionary, and the blonde boy was her willing executioner. He'd always enforced what she wanted. He refused to defy her now, maybe, ever.

"You don't want me to have anything in my life that's not you," she looked at him and Cato doesn't deny it.

This is where the teacup shatters for the millionth time. The paths of glory lead but to the grave. Hopefully someday the teacup will come together again... but once shattered, with no way to ever fix it the cracks.

AUTHOR'S NOTE
read please.

🥮 Hello yall! I really felt the need to make a story with Cato Hadley as the love interest because I love the tropes you can do with his character. I still have mixed feelings with how I am gonna write this and make the story unfold correctly like I want it to, but I feel like their tropes are meant to be soft spot and rivals to lovers ykyk?? I hate myself for always creating new stories instead of continuing the ones that are on my page... woops. But I can never help myself since it's so exciting to write new plots every now and then. Well, personally I got a good feeling about this one guys and you now it's gonna be a blast with my girls Abigail Cowen and Sadie Sink portraying a pair of younger-older sisterhood. I also thought she was perfect for Hunger Games and especially as the main character and (not to spoil things) but a rather softer spot on Cato than his usual ways with people. Also, her mentor is gonna be played by my character portrayed by Miss Emma Watson. You might wanna remember her character, because I may or may not (idk yet) have planned to do another book following the rest of the Hunger Games and that follows Cassiopeia Speight eeakkk.

𓆏 This is gonna be quick information. So!! Joanna Hobbs lives in District Eight as told already, with her mother and younger sister who's only aged thirteen. Her father died early (assumingly) because of the Capitol and the Peacekeepers took him away in the aftermath of her father's rebellious acts toward the whole regime. It all took place when her sister was very very little and she was about five years old then. Yuppp (but u go dad)... besides that, let's get into now-time. Her mother is good to them, but favorites her younger sister a bit. Joanna got this mystic kinda beauty over her with a fiery personality in the package deal— she can switch up every now and then. Just like her father, she hates being mistreated and has reallyy strong feelings on President Snow and all of 'em... we don't judge her for that lmao. But our girl is also very caring and loving, she's a sweetheart truly at heart. Practically able to do anything for her family (and specially her little sister) soo a bit much like Katniss herself. It's also why she has more respect towards her and reflects herself in Joanna sorta because they're in there for the same exact reasons.

🥮 Very special dedications to ssailorsong tvgirlmuse TheDarkFlame teenageletters Elliewillamsfilms and other fans of the hunger games books/movies! I love you all mwah mwah.

𓆏 There is gonna be a trigger warning for this story's mentioned/contained topics so do consider this as your warning now. Enigma will involve any kind of injuries, much violence, mature topics and language, sexual content (possibly) and blood. Alongside other things, maybe. But if you don't feel comfortable reading any of those themes, this might not be a story for you to read any further.
