"And stay out!!!" A man shouted, throwing Efrideet into an alleyway. "Please! I just need a little bit!" The girl cried. Coal dust covered her hands and clothing. There were streaks of the stuff under her eyes, though that may have been due to the lack of sleep.
"Yeah, and so does everyone else! Come back when you can pay like everyone else!" The man growled, dusting his hands and slamming the door on the poor girl laying in the alleyway.
Efrideet slowly lifted herself out of the pile of snow she'd been thrown in, and limped away from the alley, and as she made her way back to the trailer she called home, Efrideet tried to keep the tears from falling.
She failed, and the tears slowly but surely carved a path through the coal dust on her face. As blackened tears fell from her chin, the woman pulled her jacket tighter to her body, in an effort to conserve heat.
It was fall. Efrideet knew that she had two weeks, at most, before fall ended, and winter began. And the woman new she wouldn't survive the winter.
"E-excuse m-me, miss, b-but are y-you OK?" Some one asked, tapping Efrideet in the shoulder. When she turned, she saw a man, about her age, with tousled blonde hair and light blue eyes. He had a checkered scarf around his neck, and a plaid sweater on. In his hands, he held a bucket of coal.
"S-sir, I don't mean to trouble you, but could I have some coal? I... I can't afford any...." Efrideet said, looking away from him. Suddenly, the woman felt a massive pressure on her hand as the man handed her the entire bucket.
As Efrideet looked at him, wonder in her eyes and awe on her face, she attempted to stutter out a thank you, but the man held up his hand. "I can buy more. Its OK. Listen, find me in the park maybe twice a month if you need more, yeah?" He said, a smile on his face. Efrideet smiled brightly at him, before grabbing the man in a hug, which he returned.
"Thank you so much!!! You have no idea how helpful you have been!!!!" Efrideet exclaimed, beaming. The man smiled, handed her a wad of cash, which only made the woman's eyes widen even more.
"This should help for about a month. Spend it wisely, yeah?" The man smiled, and Efrideet nodded. Satisfied, the man walked off, leaving Efrideet with the coal and money.
Still beaming, Efrideet walked back to her trailer, coal and money in her hands, and a beaming smile on her face.
(Sorry for the short chapter, but this is all I got for now!!! I hope you all love it, and I'll see you later!!!)
