Chapter 14: The Warrior Pack

JEN

Sweat poured down my face as I ran for almost 2 days straight. Every time I would start to slow down I would speed up at the thought of my mate.

I was going to save him. How? I knew. But the process? I had no freakin clue.

After a few more minutes of running through the woods, I stopped, to tired to move on.

I looked around, my senses on high alert just in case someone followed me back. I wasn't sure but for a few miles I had a feeling that something was tracking me...watching me.

The only thing I had with me, were the clothes on my back and when I changed, I strapped them to my leg.

As I shifted, I quickly put on my pants and shirt only to realize that both were ripped. I must have ripped them when I ran through that field with thorns.

They weren't shredded but they were ripped enough that it seemed indecent. Thank the freakin lord that my shirt wasn't that bad. The back had taken most of the damage and my pants were worst. At least the bottom half were the most damaged.

I bent down and ripped away the bottom and instantly made a pair of shorts.

The cold air hit my bare legs and I shivered. The sun had set and now the temperature was dropping. I shivered again as another gust of wind hit me in the face.

I sat down on the soft dirt that was in the middle of the little clearing, deep inside the woods. I hugged myself, suddenly feeling very lonely.

My stomach growled and I don't know why but I cried.

My vision started to blur and I couldn't seem to control the tears that kept falling second after second.

I don't know exactly why I was crying but I knew it was for the acceptance that I craved for 2 years. I've been so alone that I almost went insane. I started to talk to myself. I didn't like to talk about it to anyone but I cried myself to sleep every night hoping to change my life and get away from my mate.

Twenty minutes later and I finally stopped. I wiped my eyes and stood up. I wanted to kick myself for my moment of weakness in the middle of the woods.

My stomach growled again and I looked around wishing I could eat the crackers that I had managed to sneak into my room almost a year ago.

Maybe I should just change into my wolf and hunt. The thought barley crossed my mind when I heard the low growl of a wolf.

My head snapped towards the sound, my eyes peering through the thick woods trying to locate where it came from.

I wanted to shift but I didn't want to get naked in front of the wolf! And I also didn't want to rip the only clothes I had. So, considering option B; I ran. I was supposed to keep running forward but being the dumbass I was, I ran back the way I ran away from!

My bare feet thumped against the wet forrest floor. I managed to step into some rocks but I ignored the pain by focusing on the sound of paws hitting against the ground, chasing me and nipping at my ankles.

Almost 30 minutes later and I was dying. Not literally, but my lungs were on fire and my sides burned, feeling like their was a fire inside my body.  It felt like I might pass out from exhaustion.

I groaned when I felt the wolfs hot breath tickling my bare legs making me run faster. Not being able to take it anymore, I slowed down but so did the wolf. It didn't attack me or anything. It's like it was chasing me but not for the kill.

Was this wolf playing with me? I decided to speed up feeling the wolf speed up to but then I slowed down and so did the wolf.

I skidded to a halt, the wolf running into my legs. I fell forward, grazing the side of my face on the dirt floor.

The wolf whined as it touched its nose with its paw. I grabbed my scratched face, the burning becoming intense. At least the pain was forgotten in my legs and lungs...and sides.

I glared at the wolf in front of me and the wolf glared back. It snarled and started to nip at me feet, making me jump back in surprise.

I almost didn't notice that I was now in a clearing. The wolf kept growling and I was getting frustrated.

"WHAT?!" I suddenly yelled at it, making it whine in protest.

"There is no need to yell! Sheesh!"

I whirled around as I heard a deep voice speak behind me. My eyes connected with a pair of bright blue eyes that had kindness swimming in the depths of his black pupil. His long blond hair whirled around his face as a breeze blew by but then his hair settled right above his eyes, on his forehead. His tall frame was muscular making me drool at the sight of his body. I had seen better like...Shawn's.

His boyish good looks instantly made me want to trust this dude. I was surprised but I felt that way when I looked into his eyes. I then looked behind him.

I was shocked to see a group of people standing with amused looks on their faces.

But then, I noticed something behind those people. My mouth dropped open as I looked at the house. It was like my pack house but this one was much bigger and much longer in width. It's white paint glistened in the moonlight making it look magical. It's porch was all around the house with lights that illuminated every corner, brightening the old yet very rich textures of the house. It was so beautiful.

"It's beautiful isn't it? I built it with my father when I was younger." The same guy who spoke earlier told me with a distant look in his eyes.

I looked at him, observing him. Who are these people. They seemed like civilized people. Maybe I crossed over into a pack!

I gasped when I remembered the wolf that was after me. I turned to find a tall boy behind me. His frame was muscular too and he glistened with sweat. His light brown hair matched his eyes. His mouth was pulled into a smirk as he noticed my stare at his dimpled cheeks.

He cleared his throat making me jump and look at his mischievous eyes screaming I-know-you-want-this! I rolled my eyes and scoffed.

"Don't pretend that this," he motioned towards his hot body, "doesn't turn you on."

I snorted very loud and turned around meeting the chuckles of everyone. I stared at them and folded my arms. I still didn't know these people.

"Who are you?" I asked the blond boy.

"My name is Nathan Lockwood and I am the Alpha of the Warrior Pack." He said gesturing towards the people behind him.

My eyes widened as he told me.

"I was looking for you!" I blurted out causing people to step back from my sudden loudness.

"We know." He said shrugging his shoulders.

"You knew? How?" I racked my brain, trying to figure out how they knew but came up with nothing.

"We just know." He said cryptically.

I narrowed my eyes at him and sniffed. Fine then, don't tell me.

"When you passed our territory, I had Matt follow you to see if you were a threat.

"I KNEW IT! I knew someone was following me!" I said loudly. I looked at Matt who looked annoyed as he covered his ears.

"Damn girl! You can talk loud!" He winced when I responded with a loud, "SHUT UP!"

"Anyways!" Nathan said trying to get our attention.

"When Matt thought you weren't a threat, he lead you back to our territory."

Stupid werewolf! He was leading me to his pack and I thought he wanted to kill me!

Matt smirked when I glared at him.

I wonder what made him think I wasn't a threat.

My eyes widened.

Oh. My. God. Did he see me cry?!

I blushed tomato red, embarrassed by the thought.

I avoided looking at Matt again, embarrassed he witnessed my break down.

"I don't know why you are looking for us but I feel like I could trust you." Said Nathan.

I felt I could trust him too but I still wasn't sure if I should. Maybe I should start by telling them why I was here.

So, Nathan lead us back to his beautiful house with his surrounding pack of only 40 pack members.

I told them the story of my life starting from the day I challenged my father to a fight, to the day my mother-in-law told me about the danger my mate was in.

Most of the members had tears in their eyes but most of them looked as if they were ready to kill anyone in their path.

"So, Alpha Nathan. Will you please help me." I asked, silently pleading he doesn't say no.

He frowned, making my heart jump with disappointment but then he said, "Yes, I, I mean, we will help you."

I smiled a small smile when he grinned at me.

"When our packs best fighter gets back from training another pack in a week, we will start your training. In the mean time, I want you to use our library and research everything about a wolf in complete control of the human body."

I couldn't help but say thank you again.

They showed me to a guest room and left me with some clothes and a towel.

I immediately ran to the bathroom to find a toothbrush, soap and shampoo.

I glanced at the mirror in front of me and my jaw dropped. I looked so terrible! My face was red with dried blood and my clothes were basically falling off my body. Never have I looked so horrible in my life. No wonder some of the pack members burst out crying before I even finished my story! I looked so sad! I became so skinny. The little muscle I had on my body was gone and was replaced by my bones. Why did I ever let myself get this way?

After cleaning myself I hauled my tired body into bed going over the events that happened.

Shawn was bound to find me one day and I don't know how a pack of just 40 will be able to protect themselves against the wrath of my mate. But they become warriors for a reason. Maybe I will be safe here.

Before I went into a deep sleep, their was a knock on my door.

"Come in." I sat up and waited patiently for the door to open.

A girl with beautiful blond hair walked in. She was my age and looked like Nathan. She must be his sister or something.

"Hi, my name's Aimee." She smiled brightly at me, showing me her perfect, white teeth.

"Sorry to disturb you but Nathan sent me to tell you to wake up by 7AM tomorrow because you start the first half of your training." She smiled and was about to leave when I stopped her.

"Aimee? Why are you guys helping me?" She laughed and smiled.

"Well, I would like to believe it's because we are the werewolf warriors who protect every wolf who needs our protection but I think I have to say it's because of your story. This is the first time we have ever dealt with this type of case and everyone is interested." She rubbed her neck sheepishly but I smiled.

"Well, whatever the reason, thank you."

She left with a smile and I couldn't help but think that I was going to be okay. I was going to help my mate and I was going to help myself in the process.
