SOMEWHERE ONLY WE KNOW

━━━━━ ⋆⋅♥︎⋅⋆ ━━━━━

A few days had passed since Founder's day, and Olivia had chosen to feed. Now Alaric was talking to Caroline about his worries regarding their new tribrid.

"Caroline, we can't keep her here. She's going to be a danger to everyone." Alaric spoke, as Caroline was in the middle of paperwork.

"Liv deserves to belong here just as much as anybody else, Ric." Caroline decided, not looking up as she continued to fill in some paperwork. "What are you doing?" The Saltzman then asked.

"Enrollment paperwork. Currently we have nine students interested in starting here after the summer, which means we will no longer have financial problems and you can finally stop giving our son a hard time for not marrying Rachel." Caroline explained before she frowned at the Saltzman, "Even though I keep telling you to leave him alone because these financial problems you caused are not Luca's problem."

Alaric decided to redirect the conversation back to Liv, "Olivia Auclair is a werewolf, dark witch and now a vampire. She nearly killed Penelope Park to spite our daughter. Being a vampire heightens everything which will include her darkness." He reminded the Salvatore.

"And we will help her through it." Caroline declared, "Don't you remember how hard it was to be a vampire?" She added as Alaric frowned, "That is exactly why I'm worried. It isn't easy, and it's only going to be harder as a wolf and witch who has dark episodes when they're not careful."

"Where is the tribrid now, anyway?" Alaric then asked, realising that he hadn't seen her this morning. "She's out with Charlie, he's trying to teach her how to hunt animals." Caroline answered.

Which was true. Olivia and Charlie were currently walking through the forest area of Mystic Falls, as Charlie was talking Liv through the process of getting animal blood.

"Is this always how you feed?" Liv asked curiously as Charlie shrugged, "For the most part, we're given animal blood at the Salvatore school... but I figured this would be a useful skill to teach you because we won't always be at the school when we need to feed." The Salvatore explained as Liv nodded.

"Okay. Just going to kill a bunny. No big deal." Liv reminded herself, seeming already grossed out and guilty before even having to do it. Charlie looked sympathetically at the girl, wondering why Alaric was so worried about her being so monstrous... she couldn't even bare to kill a rabbit.

Charlie suddenly stopped walking, as he pointed to a rabbit in the distance, that was eating some grass. Olivia caught sight of it, and nodded. "Just remember, be light on your feet. Rabbits scare easily." Charlie spoke quietly as Liv nodded.

The tribrid used her speed to reach the bunny. Fortunately, or unfortunately for the animal, Liv had been light on her feet, and quickly scooped the bunny into her hands and held it as it squirmed.

The Auclair let out a surprised gasp before she turned to Charlie who was impressed, "You did it! You caught a bunny!" He said with a proud expression.

Liv looked back at the rabbit, who was still squirming in her hands. She looked at its beady little eyes, and its floppy ears before she softly petted it on the head. "Charlie! I can't do this... look at it's little face." Liv suddenly said, holding the squirming bunny out to Charlie.

"I know it seems pretty unethical— But you can do this!" Charlie nodded, knowing that the more Liv thought about it, the less likely she was to actually feed from it.

"But... if I feed from it, it'll instantly die. It doesn't get to live because there's not a lot of blood in it's body." Liv rambled on before she shook her head. "Nope. I'm letting it free."

"No!" Charlie called out as the bunny scuttled away, back into the woods. "Damn, you were so close." He added as Liv sighed, "Please tell me there's another way I can obtain animal blood if I'm hypothetically not at the school." The Auclair pleaded as Charlie thought about it. "I may have an idea."

Moments later, the pair stood outside of Mystic Falls local butcher. Before even entering, Liv could smell the blood from the sliced up meat. Veins popped out from under her eyes, and she quickly lifted her hands to cover them, as she clenched her eyes shut.

"Why is this such an overwhelming desire? God can these veins disappear already." Liv grumbled in frustration as Charlie faced her. "Take a few deep breaths, inhale, hold for a few seconds and exhale slowly.." He continued as Liv listened, inhaling before holding her breath for a moment, to then exhale slowly.

"Great! They're disappearing! Now try to think that you're some place else. I'm not sure where... maybe somewhere warm and cosy, that doesn't smell like... this." Charlie rambled as Olivia tried to imagine herself at the school, surrounded by people she felt most at home around.

"Oh... I think it's working." Liv admitted, as she removed her hands away from her eyes to face Charlie. "It has! That's great." The Salvatore nodded. "It will get easier, I promise. The first weeks of being a vampire are the absolute hardest." He assured her.

Olivia found that believable... it had been a lot harder than she'd expected. The Auclair had been shifting into her wolf form a lot more too, as a way to distract herself because now as a vampire, she felt like her brain didn't ever shut the fuck up.

"Are you ready?" Charlie asked as Liv gave a nod before they entered the butcher. Behind the counter stood a man with dark coloured hair, some ear piercings and tattoos— who was currently selling some chicken wings to an old lady.

Charlie waited for the old lady to leave before they approached the counter. "Hello, how can I help you today?" The man asked, as Liv read his name tag, "Kobie"

Charlie knew exactly who this man was— Kobie Fell, the younger brother of the former news reporter, Logan Fell. The Salvatore remembered reading about Logan in one of his father's journals, and he seemed to be a complete annoyance. The star of the Fell family, while Kobie and his other brother Conrad, were overshadowed. Kobie now owned a successful business so, he didn't do bad for himself.

"Hey. We'd like to buy some animal blood." Charlie spoke up, as Kobie raised an eyebrow. "That's an interesting purchase." He admitted, looking at the pair with an inquisitive look. Liv clenched her jaw, worried he was going to question them.

Charlie stayed quiet as Kobie turned to exit into the back of the shop, humming a tune as he did. When Liv realised he was probably getting them animal blood, she exhaled a breath she hadn't even realised she was holding.

"Oh my god I thought we were going to come undone." Liv whispered as Charlie agreed. "To be honest, I've never actually bought animal blood before, so I wasn't sure this was going to work." The Salvatore admitted bashfully as Liv's eyes widened at the realisation that this could have failed.

Still humming a tune, simply living his best life, Kobie came back to the store front, with 2x 1 litre bottles of animal blood. "Thanks. How much do we owe you?" Charlie asked as Kobie shook his head. "Just take it. There is never a shortage of animal blood at a butcher." The Fell confessed as Liv scrunched her face up at the thought.

"Is this for some sort of prank?" Kobie asked curiously, "My daughter was being bullied at school so I gave her a bottle of animal blood to aid her in revenge. It was very effective." The Fell added as Charlie tried to stifle a laugh while Liv wanted to vomit.

The Salvatore could remember Lexi telling him about the time Dana opened her locker to have everything destroyed by animal blood while it oozed out of her locker. He didn't expect that the strictly routined Clara Fell would have been the one to take time out of her day to pour animal blood in Dana's locker, but perhaps it was deserved. Dana was a horrible bully.

"Yeah. We're getting revenge on somebody." Charlie decided, nudging Olivia to go along with it. "Yep! We sure are." The Auclair agreed uncomfortably as Kobie seemed amused. "Well you kids enjoy. Have a nice afternoon." The man said, before turning to head into the back.

"Thanks. You too." Liv answered before herself and Charlie left, and Olivia exhaled with relief. Liv then reached out and placed her hands on the bottles of blood, before casting an illusion spell to make them look like bottles of fizzy drink.

Now, without the worry of strangers watching them drink a suspicious red liquid from a bottle as they walked back to the Salvatore school, Liv took one of the bottle and unscrewed it before taking a drink. She wished it had tasted like fizzy drink, though it was making her feel better.

"I haven't asked... how do you feel about being a vampire?" Charlie asked, as they continued to walk. "Um... I haven't really thought much about it. My head has been too clouded by everything else... the overlapping unorganised thoughts, being able to hear everybody and smell everything... do you know how fucking annoying it is to be able to smell a fart from down the hall?!" The ravenette asked with embarrassment and frustration as Charlie couldn't keep a serious face, though he frowned in understanding, "Unfortunately I do— but you do manage to focus your senses better over time." He assured her.

"I just feel so overstimulated all of the time... along with my dark magic and being a wolf too. There's just so much going on inside my body and my brain." Olivia trailed off, hoping it would get better.

Charlie wished he could offer her advice, but he could only speak on behalf of her vampire side. Currently Olivia was the only fully activated tribrid (that they knew of), so she didn't really have anybody to lean on.

"Do you resent Lexi for this?" Charlie asked, as Liv thought about Lexi. She hadn't seen the Salvatore since she'd turned, but that was no fault of Alexia's. Damon returned home to a frustrated family because he'd ghosted them at a time of need, so to make it up to them he took them on a spontaneous and very sudden road trip. The Salvatore had called to check in, but Liv didn't tell her a lot about how she was feeling as a vampire because she didn't want Lexi to beat herself up for it.

"I don't hate her. I don't think I could ever hate her." Liv admitted, "I know she was only trying to help me." She added, though Charlie didn't seem pleased. He was totally pissed that Lexi had done this. "She could have healed you with her magic. She didn't have to resort to the most risky option that could change your life forever— which it has." Charlie admitted as Liv frowned. It was true.

Lexi could have used her magic to heal Olivia, everyone pointed out that flaw in Liv's story, but in a stressful life-or-death situation, Lexi went straight for the most effective (but riskiest) option. Even though Liv was struggling, she couldn't hate Lexi for it because she was trying to save her life.

"She was also the one driving the vehicle that could have killed you." Charlie added though Liv didn't blame Lexi for that either. Elena hadn't warned her properly of what was going to happen, and even suggested Lexi was to drive. Lexi had no idea that such a piercing sound was going to activate and cause them to crash.

Liv continued to drink her animal blood. No matter what, she just couldn't see Lexi as the bad guy here, as much as others believed so. And part of her... well, part of her longed for Lexi's return more than anything. She knew she'd been crushing on the girl, but ever since she turned the Salvatore was on her mind all the time (amongst everything else).

They reached the school at last, as Charlie looked to Liv. "I'll teach you how to hunt again another day." He assured her, determined to teach her. "Thanks." Olivia replied, feeling bad for wasting his time. She had nearly done it, but something stopped her.

"We've got to get ready now for Laura's funeral." Liv realised, seeing some students already dressed in black. Charlie's face fell in realisation, "Yeah, we do." He spoke, his heart aching for his roommate who had been in ruins since Caroline and Alaric told him of her death.

━━━━━ ⋆⋅♥︎⋅⋆ ━━━━━

Everyone wore black as they all took their seats in the pews of a funeral sight. At the front, laid Laura's casket fortunately closed. Ran and Zuko Shiratori, Laura's parents, stood by the coffin with inconsolable expressions, as their eyes were on a picture frame of Laura that was visible for everybody to see.

Niko sat in the front row, with Hime and Michael Shiratori, his parents. The psychic wore a magical pair of ear muffs, to keep everyone else's thoughts out of his head so he wasn't overwhelmed with anymore emotions than what he was already feeling. Usually, Niko would have to pry to read people's thoughts and emotions, but while being in such a broken, miserable state, he would unfortunately hear everyone's thoughts without even trying, which became very overwhelming.

The magical ear muffs were a present his parents and Laura's parents all gave him, knowing he would need it for the funeral and while he was to grieve, but in general it is a useful gift to have so he can experience quiet when he isn't in a strong mental state. The four had sought out a witch in New Orleans to create them.

All of the Salvatore students sat further back, allowing for Laura's family and friends to sit closer. Some Mystic Falls High students sat behind them, as the school offered for students to go to the funeral if they wished, as Laura was formerly a student there before she went to Auclair Academy.

Of the Mystic Falls High students, the only ones that were her for Laura and not to just simply get out of class, were Maya, Finch and Stella. The Machado wanted to pay her respects, and so did Finch and Stella despite not knowing her well, plus they wanted to be there for Maya. Sure, Ethan and the Olmo twins were here too, but that was because they wanted to skip Maths.

In the row ahead, Myrical sat between Olivia and Valerie, holding Liv's hands as tears rolled down her cheeks. The Benning felt like Laura had become one of her greatest friends, and she didn't know how to cope with her being gone.

The funeral soon began, as Ran and Zuko gave a speech about how accomplished Laura was in her short time of being alive, and how she had a lot of bright ideas for her future.

Hime and Michael spoke next, mentioning how much they adored having Laura in their life and how bonded she was to Niko, and how as kids they would cry as soon as they were separated.

Niko decided to speak, but he felt as though the words just weren't coming out. Each time he would speak, he would choke on a sob. When he could eventually form sentences, he decided to share a childhood memory of their constant sleepovers (which were basically every weekend). Laura would practice her sword fighting and Niko would try and draw her doing it, because they wanted Laura to see (and believe) how badass she looked.

Once Niko returned to their chair, some other family friends spoke before everybody was seated and picture slideshows began to play.

Though it was then that Tyson, Dana's boyfriend and Connor's best friend, who had only decided to go to the funeral to get out of classes, reached over to speak to his friend. Though it was a whisper, the supernatural Salvatore students could hear it clear as day.

"Nobody is gonna miss that slanty eyed bitch anyway. She never spoke two words to anybody who wasn't her even weirder cousin."

Despite not having supernatural hearing, Maya was the first to respond by letting out a loud gasp. She hated Tyson (and Connor's whole clique) and though she had very little expectations of him but she didn't expect him to be a fucking racist.

Gasps and curses were quickly heard as all of the Salvatore students turned around, with expressions of hatred and disgust. Tyson nearly fell out of his seat when he realised that for some reason, they could all hear him.

"You're a fucking low life!" Aphrodite was the first to snap, her voice sounding venomous. The redhead was followed by Tori, Beau and Clary. After processing what he had said basically all of the Salvatore students jumped out of their seats, completely infuriated by the boy. "Of course you're offended." Tyson said to Aphrodite, only causing her to get angrier.

"You're a horrible person! You shouldn't even be here!" Olivia snapped, though veins popped out from under her eyes with anger, and Myrical quickly shifted the tribrid out of the Mystic Falls High students view before they could see. "Your vampire eyes are showing!" Myrical whispered, sidelining her anger momentarily to keep her best friend from outing herself to the normies as a vampire.

"A fight isn't going to solve this." Josie insisted, reaching out to stop Clary and Lizzie from approaching Tyson (behind Beau, Tori and Aphrodite who were ready to kill this motherfucker). "Do not hold me back, Josette!" Carice demanded, brushing Josie's hands away as did Lizzie.

Seeing the commotion, Niko got out of his seat and turned to see the Salvatore students exit the pews to follow Tyson, who was trying to move away while wearing a terrified look. He took off the earmuffs, and clenched his eyes shut for a moment as he could hear everybody's thoughts without even trying. Sadness and distress hit him all at once, but it was soon replaced with anger, and not a healthy amount. Rage, infuriation and the urge to fight.

The Shiratori began moving towards the Salvatore students and Tyson, as he noticed the students trying to conceal their abilities despite wanting to explode. He could feel their outrage, but more so what they were thinking. They wanted to tear Tyson apart.

Niko moved past the group, finally approaching Tyson, though his eyes widened when he could read the boy's thoughts back to when he had been racist and hateful towards his dead cousin.

"Dude, you need to control your school of freaks. They want to kill me!" Tyson blurted out in fear, seeming relieved as though Niko was here to help him. They were not.

Niko reached out and grabbed the collar of Tyson's shirt roughly with one hand. With the other, he balled his fist and raised it to leave a hard punch across his face.

The boy fell to the ground, as Niko let go of his shirt collar, and Tyson let out a groan. "You shouldn't even fucking be here!" Niko snapped, crushing Tyson with his weight as he fell to the ground, not caring about his knees digging into the boys ribcage.

"You have some fucking nerve showing your face here after the way you treated my sister!" Niko spoke, both his fists balled now as he continuously punched Tyson, hit after hit. The sounds of their fists hitting Tyson's face echoed through the building as everybody just watched. The Salvatore students sure weren't going to stop him.

"And now you come here, treating her like shit again, even though she's fucking dead?! You're a cunt!" Niko yelled out, on the verge of tears as he continued to punch Tyson repeatedly. None of the Mystic Falls High students were going to help him.

Eventually, Michael and Hime rushed over, as Michael managed to grab hold of his son and drag him away from Tyson. "Niko, we do not resolve anything with violence." He reminded his son, who had burst into tears. "Let me go!! He and his friends bullied Laura!! He deserves this! Let me go!!" Niko cried out, trying to flail out of his father's grip, but the older man wasn't going to let his son go. Not while they were still 10 feet away from Tyson.

Tyson looked up at Hime, hoping she would offer an apology on Niko's behalf, but the woman simply glared at him before she turned to walk beside her husband and son as they went back to their seats. Sure, she didn't like violence, but she could see that Tyson had it coming.

A security guard approached Tyson, insisting he get up and leave before he called the police and have him arrested. Tyson glumly got to his feet, and went to leave.

Clary, amongst others, glared viciously at Tyson, though the Bailey had an idea. She glanced at Lizzie and Lucas who also had the same determined expression as her, so she offered them her hands. The Saltzman's took hold of her hands and siphoned magic before the trio all turned to the sulking boy.

"Incendia."

Screams erupted throughout the building, mostly from Tyson, as the boy had set ablaze. He ran out of the building, a scream escaping his lips that dulled when he was finally out of view.

Clary had a smug smile on her lips, and highfived Lizzie and Lucas before Beau applauded her. "Clary, you bad bitch!" He said in a loud whisper.

Maya, who'd unknowingly seen the trio cast the spell, had her jaw dropped. They had tried to be subtle, but from her angle they saw everything. Finch and Stella shared a look, knowing the Machado would have so many questions.

Truthfully, Finch and Stella hadn't actually told their Salvatore friends that they were supernatural, and vice versa... but there were little things that gave it away. For example, Stella knew a lot of the Salvatore students didn't have beating hearts. And Finch? Well she couldn't help but wonder why herself and Liv could hear that ear piercing noise on Founder's day when they weren't vampires.

The sisters broke eye contact and looked to the front, as the funeral continued.

━━━━━ ⋆⋅♥︎⋅⋆ ━━━━━

Myrical stood in Niko's dorm, as she gently wrapped his hands in bandages as his knuckles were bloodied and some possibly broken from punching Tyson over and over.

"Are you sure you don't want me to use a healing spell?" Myrical's soft voice asked, as Niko shook their head. "I'm hoping if my knuckles are already fucked, I won't lash out and punch anything else." The psychic spoke, as Myrical lowered her eyes back to the bandages and continued to wrap his hands.

Niko didn't trust what he'd do while he was grieving. He'd just lost the most important person in his life and he didn't know how to live without her.

"There we go. All finished." Myrical said with a smile, as she cut off the excess bandages. "Thanks Riri." Niko said with a weak smile. "You know... Laura really loved you. She always told me how much she valued your friendship." The psychic said.

Myrical felt tears sting her eyes instantly, "Really?" She asked, as she reached up to wiped her tears. "I valued my friendship with her too, so much." The Benning added, as Niko felt tears fill his eyes. The raven haired boy then opened his arms, to offer her a hug, though he didn't want to initiate it because he knew Myrical hated physical contact with anybody that wasn't Olivia. Myrical lurched forward, hugging the tall boy as she let some tears fall.

There was a soft knock at the door, as Glen stood there. Niko and Myrical reluctantly let go of one another and looked over at the werewolf. "Hey, sorry to interrupt." Glen began, offering a sympathetic smile. "You guys are needed in the common room."

Niko and Myrical shared looks of confusion, but left Niko's dorm to follow Glen down the hallway, and to the common room. When they entered, Niko let out a gasp at the sight.

Some lit candles were placed around the room, as well as many of Laura's colourful paper cranes (which Aphrodite carefully placed). Cherry blossom petals had been scattered around the floor, adding a floral aroma to the air.

Above the fireplace sat the large picture frame of Laura, from the funeral. Next to it sat a smaller frame that held a picture of Laura and Niko, as the cousins had their arms wrapped around one another in an embrace. Amongst the frames sat some of Laura's most cherished belongings: her ice skates, her favourite books and her reliable sword, all of which alluded to hobbies she wanted to get back into after settling at the Salvatore school.

Near the couches was an ice bucket, holding bottles of white wine, while there was a cart full of different spirits and fizzy drinks to mix them with (the cart of alcohol, Lizzie and Lucas stole from their Dad).

And lastly, a large table sat with several sealed boxes of handmade sushi, that Olivia, Glen, Valerie, Josie and Jed helped to make. There was also a container with wasabi, that Glen decided to place a warning sticker on. There were also many sweets that Aphrodite ordered from a bakery which consisted of: macaroons, chocolates, various candies and various sweet pastries.

Niko then looked around the room at the students— Lizzie, Aphie, Lucas and Charlie sat on one sofa while Clary, Tori, Beau and Olivia sat on another. Valerie, Jed and Josie sat together on some beanbags while Kaleb and MG stood as one group while Landon, Rafael and Wade stood as another group.

Tori, who had her arm around Clary, turned to face Niko with a bright smile. "Hey! Welcome!" She greeted as Niko was still taking everything in. Glen went to sit beside Charlie while Myrical went to sit beside Liv, meanwhile Niko's shocked face turned into a smile.

"Fuckhead Tyson really ruined Laura's funeral today, so we thought we should have our own little memorial for her." Aphrodite (who Lizzie was cuddled up to), spoke with a smile.

"Oh wow... this is so beautiful. I... I actually don't know what to say but I'm so, so grateful." Niko rambled on before Beau motioned to the empty spot by the fireplace, "Why don't you come say a few words?" He suggested.

The psychic blinked in surprise, feeling as though he was still processing this kind gesture from everybody, but nevertheless his legs started moving and he found himself standing in front of the fireplace. He glanced at the picture frames, his eyes filling with tears as he could see Laura's smiling face.

Eventually, Niko turned around to face the other students. He inhaled shakily, before Landon spoke up, "Take your time. There's no rush." The Shiratori nodded, as he thought about what he wanted to say, but he wasn't sure how to put into words how much Laura meant to him.

"To most, Laura was a really shy girl who kept to herself. But she was more than that... so much more." Niko began, "She was... brave, courageous and so so loyal. You know, she turned into a vampire so she could get into Auclair academy? She couldn't bare the thought of us being separated and honestly neither could I."  He paused for a moment, realising that for the first time since they were kids, they were apart.

"She was really kind." Myrical spoke up, realising that Niko was struggling to talk, under the weight of everybody's eyes. "At first we only really waved at eachother in the hallways... but one day we just started to talk more and she would always check in on me." The Benning continued, trying not to feel overwhelmed by the eyes on her. "After every full moon she would visit me in the morning to make sure I was okay." Niko smiled at Myrical, grateful that she was sharing.

"She was super intelligent." Liv piped up, "You know one time we sat together in Biology and I wasn't paying attention so the teacher called on me to answer a question. Even when I realised what the question was I had no idea of the answer... and then Laura just blurted it out like it was nothing, saving my ass." The Auclair giggled, as a few others laughed.

"Laura was generous too." Aphrodite chimed in. "One time at Auclair I couldn't sleep, so I made some tea and sat in the kitchen. Then enters this hungry girl who had her head stuck in a novel and lost track of time, suddenly feeling snacky." The De Martel continued. "She suddenly pulled this box of macaroons out of the pantry, that she'd been so excited to try, and then she came and sat with me and offered me some." The redhead said with a smile.

"Her sword fighting was so badass to watch. I remember seeing her practice in the courtyard at Auclair." Lucas added, "She made it look so effortless— but it also made me not ever want to mess with her."

"Do you remember that one year the lake at Auclair completely froze?" Beau asked as Carice replied, "Yeah, didn't it snow too? I swear everyone was building snowmen." Tori nudged her, "Not me. I was building an igloo so I could hide away from you." The hybrid teased as Lucas added, "Oh yeah! Beau and I hid in it with you so we could gossip about everyone else."

"Well while we were hiding in an igloo, I saw Laura ice skate on the lake everyday until it started to melt. She looked so graceful." Beau concluded, as Niko glanced at her memorial above the fire place.

"I'm going to miss her so fucking much." Niko then said, as tears rolled down his cheeks. "I genuinely don't know how I'm supposed to do this without her."

Tori removed her arm from Clary as she got out of her seat to approach the grieving psychic. Her heart broke for him, realising that he was about to go through the worst pain imaginable. She felt like she could relate back to when she lost her parents. When Victoria lost Camille, Klaus and Hayley all in such a short time, she thought the grief would genuinely destroy her forever (hence, she turned off her emotions).

"It's gonna be really tough." Tori began, catching Niko's attention. "But we're all here for you, okay? Lean on us whenever you need." The blonde insisted, though tears filled her eyes as she spoke, feeling so empathic for the raven haired boy.

Niko nodded, tears rolling down their cheeks as they were unable to make words in his state, though he took a step forward and embraced the smaller girl as a sign of gratitude. Tori hugged Niko back, sniffling as a tear rolled down her cheek.

The other students smiled at the bittersweet scene before Glen insisted, "Everybody, grab a drink." To which Valerie got their feet and approached the wine. "At last." They said, feeling as though the alcohol was going to go warm if it sat any longer.

Once everyone had a drink— either a wine, beer, straight spirit or spirit mixed with fizzy drink, Lucas decided to raise his glass. "To Laura." He said as everyone else raised their glass in the air, "To Laura." Everybody said, before they began to drink together, as they remembered their fallen friend.
