CHAPTER FOUR, leora's healing dilemma
Leora woke up with a gasp, sitting up quickly. "Easy. It's alright. You're okay." Liam reassured her. She looked around, furrowing her eyebrows as she realized she's at the vet clinic.
"What happened?" She muttered, rubbing her head with a wince. She felt a dull ache in her head, a lingering reminder of the strain her powers had put on her.
"You passed out. Don't worry. You're safe." Liam reassured her. He glanced at her with concern, his brow furrowed slightly.
"What did I miss?" Leora asked, trying to piece together the events that led her here.
"Parrish went after Sebastien Valet," Liam replies, watching her closely for any signs of discomfort or pain. "It turns out he's the Beast of Gevaudan."
Leora's eyes widen. The revelation hit Leora like a wave crashing over her. Sebastien Valet, the infamous Beast of Gevaudan, was a name that echoed through centuries of supernatural lore. Her mind raced, trying to reconcile this ancient terror with the present-day crisis Parrish had faced. "He's the Beast?" Leora's voice quivered slightly, disbelief mingling with the remnants of her headache. She remembered some stuff about that after Lydia had told the group about it. She was surprised and confused at how he was still alive.
"Yeah, he is." Liam sighed.
"Wow, I missed a lot when I was passed out." Leora remarked, her voice tinged with both surprise and frustration. She paused, taking a moment to collect her thoughts. The implications of Sebastien Valet being the legendary Beast of Gevaudan were staggering. She had heard the stories from Lydia, about the terror the Beast had brought centuries ago. Now, to learn that it wasn't just a historical tale but a living, breathing threat in their midst, unsettled her deeply.
"How are you feeling?" Liam questioned suddenly, his question catching her off guard.
"Still tired and weak. My healing powers take a lot out of me when I use them a lot, especially if I don't have enough time in between to rest. It makes sense because they're so powerful. I'm gonna be fine though." Leora answered honestly, giving him a small smile.
Liam nods, seeming satisfied with her answer. "Good...Just try not to use your powers today, okay? You need to rest." his expression serious as he emphasized the importance of her recovery.
"But what if-" Leora starts worriedly, sighing after seeing the look Liam sent her. "Fine." She mumbles. "Why are we at the vet clinic?" She asked, glancing around the room.
"I'll show you." Liam gets up, gesturing for her to follow him. Leora gets up, stumbling a little bit and Liam caught her. "You sure you're okay?" He asked worriedly.
"You're caring about me now, Li?" She teased lightly, a playful glint in her eyes despite feeling weak. Liam chuckled softly, his concern evident as he steadied her.
"Only when you're collapsing on me, Leo." Liam quipped with a smirk, his hand still supporting her as they moved through the clinic. He led her to the back room where Scott and Stiles with Deaton and the Dread Doctor surgeon they brought. Leora's eyes widened at seeing the Dread Doctor. She didn't expect to see him there.
"Hey, Leo." Stiles greeted with a small smile.
"Only I can call her that." Liam glared at him.
"Sorry, Li." Stiles raised his hands in defense.
"Stiles, only I can call him that!" Leora rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, get with the program, Stiles." Liam scoffed.
"I don't get it." Stiles throws his arms up out of frustration. "You two call each other by nicknames and sometimes you act like you're friends yet just seconds later you act like you wanna kill each other." He glances at Scott. "Scott, do you understand them?"
"Stiles, I don't understand them at all." Scott admits with a chuckle. He looks over at Leora. "I'm glad you're awake though." Scott looks relieved at seeing Leora up. "Are you okay?"
Leora manages a faint smile at Scott's concern. "Yeah, just a bit drained," She replies, her voice slightly hoarse. She glanced around the room again, taking in the unusual assembly of people. "What's going on here?"
Scott nods in response. "Okay, you gotta take care of yourself more, Leora. You-"
"I know, I know. Got the whole lecture from Liam." Leora rolled her eyes, though she appreciated Scott's concern. She leaned slightly against Liam, feeling his steady presence beside her.
Scott chuckles softly. "Well, Liam's just looking out for you."
"Yeah, he's insufferable like that," Leora teased lightly, earning a playful glare from Liam. Despite her jesting tone, she knew Liam's concern came from a place of care, which she deeply valued.
Scott nods, looking satisfied with that answer before he turns back to Deaton. "So can you keep him alive?"
"I'm not sure he technically is alive." Deaton replied.
"Screw keeping him alive." Liam cut in, looking pissed. "How do we get him to talk?"
"Personally, I don't think we utilize torture nearly enough." Stiles retorted.
"Come..." Sebastien's voice is suddenly heard, gaining everyone's attention.
"Did you hear that?" Liam inquired, looking around with confusion.
"Come to me..." Sebastien speaks. "To me."
"Please tell me I'm not the only one who hears the mysterious creepy voice." Leora said worriedly. She looked around the room, her unease palpable as everyone exchanged bewildered glances. The atmosphere in the clinic seemed to shift subtly, an undercurrent of tension creeping in.
Everyone is startled, backing up when suddenly the Dread Doctor on the table sat up. Everyone covered their ears at the high pitched noise that is suddenly emitted as everything in the room shakes. Leora winced at the sudden loud noise, feeling disoriented from the unexpected disturbance. She already felt disoriented from using her powers too much and this definitely didn't help. Liam then started to go after the Dread Doctor as he started to leave.
"Liam, wait!" Scott tried to stop him, but it was too late. Leora had to lean against
Leora gasps in shock as a electrical blast at Liam, sending him flying backwards. "Liam!" Leora surprises herself when she ran over to kneel by his side and check on him, her heart racing with worry. Liam groaned, clearly dazed from the impact, but conscious. Leora mentally scolded herself. What was she doing? She was supposed to be hating Liam. But in that moment, all those thoughts faded into the background as her concern for him took over. She gently placed a hand on his shoulder, feeling relieved that he was conscious.
"Liam, are you okay?" Leora asked urgently, her voice filled with worry.
Liam blinks, trying to focus on her. He winces slightly, his hand moving to touch his head where the blast hit him. "Yeah...I think so." He murmured, his voice strained.
Leora helped him up the best she could given her own weakened state. Suddenly the tables and chairs fly at the doors in a massive pile and the lights spark before going off. "Stop!" Deaton calls out to Liam when he tried to run forward to push the tables away. Scott had stepped forward and grabbed Liam to pull him back as well. "It's electrified." Deaton pointed out.
Leora's shoulders slump at that news. "What, so we're trapped here?" Leora asks, frustration creeping into her voice. After not getting a response, she realizes Scott and Liam were listening to someone outside with their enhanced hearing. Since she wasn't a werewolf, she couldn't hear what they were listening to. "What's going on, guys?" She inquired, wanting to understand the sudden tension and urgency in the room.
"It's Sebastien." Liam replies. "He's talking to the Dread Doctor." Leora's eyes widened in surprise. She hadn't expected that twist. Sebastien communicating with the Dread Doctor could only mean trouble.
"The cane." Scott suddenly said, his eyes widening.
"But they took it. They took the cane." Liam realized.
****
"Maybe there's something in here." Scott said, looking through some files. "Something about how he was a Genetic Chimera." The group was still trapped at the vet clinic, searching for some information.
"Mason had a vanishing twin." Deaton voiced.
Stiles nods. "Now we've got a vanishing Mason."
"What does that have to do with him turning into a two hundred and fifty year old French guy?" Liam inquires. "How does that even happen?"
"Hold on, Scott might have something." Deaton points at Scott. "Mason's twin wasn't entirely gone. That's what made him a Genetic Chimera."
Scott's eyes widen in realization. "The DNA was still there."
"Metaphorically speaking, the DNA of Mason could still be inside Sebastien as well." Deaton explained.
"How?" Stiles asked him.
"Life is energy. Energy doesn't just disappear. The Dread Doctors may have found a way to break the rules of the supernatural world, but there are some rules that simply won't break." Deaton continued.
"So Mason can't just be gone?" Liam questioned.
"Somewhere in Sebastien he has still exist in some form." Deaton nods. "A spark of energy, a flicker of memory."
"So we can still save him." Leora finally spoke up, sounding hopeful. She had been quiet during the conversation, her thoughts swirling with the recent revelations. Her mind raced, trying to process everything she had learned. There was a part of her that was relieved and hopeful that they could still save Mason, but there was another part that was filled with doubt and fear. What if they couldn't save him? She wasn't sure if she could handle losing someone else.
"Hang on," Stiles said. "You said Mason said something right before he turned."
"He said, 'That's not my name'." Liam recalled.
"He finally remembered his name." Scott nodded.
"Damnatio Memoriae." Stiles continued.
"That's what they wanted." Liam murmurs, his eyes widening as he realized it. "They wanted Sebastien to remember his name."
"Scott, you know the myth of what happens when you call a werewolf by its given name?" Deaton asked Scott.
"It turns back to human." Scott replied, sounding surprised after remembering the myth.
"Okay, I'm confused." Leora admitted, trying to piece together the complex threads of information and revelation swirling around her. The intensity of the situation at the vet clinic was palpable, with each revelation adding layers of urgency and danger.
"Me too." Liam nods in agreement, furrowing his eyebrows. "What does that mean? It's not like someone can just walk up to the Beast, yell Mason's name and turn him back?"
"Not someone..."
"Lydia." Stiles finishes Scott's sentence. Then he pauses, his eyes widening as he realizes something else. "Wait, did you two just agree on something?" He asks, pointing at Liam and Leora. "Since when have you guys been getting along?" He sounded surprised and suspicious, but mostly suspicious.
Leora rolls her eyes, scoffing at the absurdity of his statement. "We're not getting along, Stilinski." She shot him an irritated glare. She hated the fact that he was right, but she would never admit it. Besides, she wasn't sure what to make of her interactions with Liam. He had been surprisingly protective and caring earlier, and she found herself being less hostile towards him. Still, she was skeptical about their relationship, not sure if it was worth fixing. It wasn't like he was any different now. If anything, he was still the same immature, temperamental, annoying, little punk who she was always at odds with. At least, that's what she told herself. In reality, she knew things had changed between them and she wasn't sure how to feel about that.
Liam glares at Stiles, his expression mirroring Leora's annoyance. "Stiles, just because we're not at each other's throats every second doesn't mean we're suddenly best friends," Liam retorts, crossing his arms with a hint of defensiveness. "We've got bigger things to worry about right now."
Leora nods in agreement, her frustration at being trapped in a supernatural crisis evident. "Yeah, Stiles, can we focus on the fact that there's a centuries-old monster and some mad scientists trying to wreak havoc here?"
Stiles holds up his hands in surrender, recognizing the seriousness of the situation despite his usual penchant for banter. "Alright, alright. I get it. But you two did just agree again." He smirked a little, unable to resist teasing the duo.
Leora huffed, rolling her eyes in annoyance at the mention of the incident. She glanced at Liam, expecting to see a similar look of annoyance, but instead was met with his gaze. His bright blue eyes were soft, tinged with an emotion she couldn't quite identify. Was it affection? Concern? Whatever it was, it caught her off guard and caused a strange flutter in her stomach. She quickly averted her gaze, ignoring the feelings stirring within her. It was probably just the stress and exhaustion making her weird, she told herself. Yeah, that had to be it. There was no way she was actually developing feelings for Liam. There was no way she was liking him again...Right?
****
The group eventually made it out of the vet clinic and Leora was relieved about that. She hated feeling trapped, especially during a time of crisis. Now that she was free, she felt a sense of determination to help stop Sebastien and the Dread Doctors. She knew it was dangerous, but she also knew it was the right thing to do. She was at the hospital now with Scott, Stiles, and Liam. They had been told Lydia had gotten hurt badly and was at the hospital. Her throat was sliced and she couldn't really talk. Which definitely didn't help any of them since she was supposed to be the solution to end this. But Leora was really worried about her friend and she wanted to help heal her more. She knew she could get her to heal a little faster, then maybe Lydia could have more strength to help them out.
"Not gonna happen, Leo." Liam's sudden voice broke her thoughts. She had forgotten he was sitting beside her in the waiting room. Scott had left to go get an update on Lydia. She narrowed her eyes at Liam.
"You don't know what I was thinking, Liam." She shot back, crossing her arms.
"I know exactly what you were thinking. I know how your mind works, Leora. You were thinking about healing her with your powers." Liam shook his head, his tone firm. "No, you can't do that."
"Liam, you're not the boss of me." Leora snaps, feeling annoyed by his tone. "And I can help her."
"Look, I'm not telling you this to piss you off. But you used a lot of your powers already and you've been drained. You need to save your strength. You passed out last night. You don't even have the strength to heal a paper cut, let alone someone's throat." Liam's tone is gentle yet firm. "You have no energy left. You're weak. Don't try to deny it. You're pale, you're shaky, you're struggling to keep your eyes open."
Leora was about to protest but then realized he was right. She felt weak, exhausted. Even standing there seemed to take a lot of effort. Her limbs felt heavy, and her mind was foggy. She felt like she could collapse at any moment. She knew she didn't have the energy to heal anyone, but she was too stubborn to admit it.
"You know I'm right." Liam's voice was softer now. She glared at him, not wanting to concede the point. She hated the fact that he could read her so easily, that he could see right through her.
"Fine, whatever." Leora muttered, slumping back in her seat. She hated feeling helpless and weak, but she knew Liam was right. If she tried to use her powers, she would only make things worse.
"Thank you for not being an idiot and letting me stop you from using your powers." Liam tells her. "Because if you had done it and hurt yourself, I would have had to kick your a**." He pauses, then adds, "And I'm sure you wouldn't want that." He was trying to lighten the mood, and it worked. He saw her smirk a little and he couldn't help but smile too.
"Oh please, you couldn't beat me, Dumbar." Leora retorts playfully, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "You're way too slow."
Liam chuckles a genuine smile spreading across his face. "I wouldn't be so sure about that, Leo. I could probably beat you now since you're weak and all." He teased her.
Leora narrows her eyes, her expression challenging. "You wanna bet, Dumbar? I'll kick your a**right here, right now."
Scott's voice interrupts their banter. "Okay, let's not start a fight here." He said as he approached them, looking amused. He had been listening to their conversation as he walked over to them, overhearing it with his enhanced hearing. He knew they had been getting along more lately, Stiles was right about that. He knew they cared about each other even if they didn't show it or admit it.
They both sit up straighter as Scott walked to them. "Is she okay?" Liam asked him, worry and concern on his and Leora's face.
"She's gonna be fine, but...She can't really talk." Scott replied.
Leora frowns, standing up immediately but she stumbles a little, her hand coming up to her head when she suddenly got a pounding headache. Scott quickly grabs her arm, steadying her. "Maybe I can heal her." She tries to ignore the dizziness she felt, her determination and concern for Lydia overriding her fatigue. "I can heal her a little bit. She'll have some energy back."
"You can't." Liam's voice was firm. "You have no strength to heal her." He stood up, grabbing her other arm and gently guiding her back to the chair.
"Liam's right. You need to save your strength. You passed out last night. You've been drained. And if we're gonna stop the Beast, we need you at your best." Scott explained, his voice gentle but firm. He didn't want to argue with her. But he had seen how weak she was and he didn't want her to hurt herself.
Leora's shoulders slump and her expression is conflicted. She looks between Scott and Liam, knowing they were right but feeling frustrated and helpless. "I just hate sitting here doing nothing." She muttered, a note of defeat in her voice.
Scott gave her a reassuring smile. "I know, but resting now means you'll be able to help more later. We need you strong." He knew it was hard for her to stay back, to not use her powers to help. But he also knew she was too stubborn and headstrong to admit defeat. So he had to use her logical side to make her understand. "We can't do this without you." He added, hoping his words would reach her. He had learned that the best way to get through to her was by appealing to her sense of duty and responsibility. She always put others first, always willing to sacrifice herself for the sake of others. He knew that was what would finally make her accept the situation.
Leora takes a deep breath, sighing heavily. She knew Scott was right, but it was hard for her to admit defeat. She looked at him, seeing the concern and care in his eyes. He was her friend, and she trusted him. "Fine." She concedes. "I'll rest. But I'm not happy about it."
"Clearly." Liam muttered.
"Shut up, Liam." Leora replies, rolling her eyes at him. She was too tired and frustrated to banter with him right now. She slumps back in the chair, leaning her head against the wall and closing her eyes. She just wanted this whole thing to be over, for the Beast and the Dread Doctors to be gone and everyone to be safe. "So what do we do now?" She asked, her eyes still closed.
"Then it's over, is it?" Liam couldn't help but question, looking at Scott worriedly. "There's nothing we can do to save him."
Before Scott could reply his phone buzzed, causing him to look down at his phone and saw he got a few voicemails from Kira. "Give me a second." He said softly to them and turned around to walk away.
Leora opens her eyes, glancing over at Liam and was surprised to see tears in his eyes. He blinks rapidly, trying to keep the tears from falling. "Liam?" She asks, her voice soft and full of concern. She knew how much Mason meant to him, and how hard it must be for him to deal with the reality that there might be no hope of saving his best friend. "It's going to be okay." She told him, her tone gentle.
Liam's expression was torn and filled with pain. "What if it's not, Leo? What if we can't save him?" He whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
He didn't care he was acting like this around the girl he was supposed to hate, that he was supposed to keep his guard up around. Right now, all he felt was the crushing weight of helplessness and the fear of losing his best friend. Leora reaches out and placed a hand on his shoulder, her touch gentle and reassuring. "We will save him, Liam. I don't know how yet, but we will. We always find a way." Her voice was steady, filled with a quiet determination that seemed to pierce through Liam's despair.
Liam looks at her, his eyes reflecting a mixture of hope and uncertainty. He nods slowly, trying to find solace in her words. "Yeah, I guess you're right." He murmured, though the doubt still lingered in his heart.
"You just agreed with me again." Leora grins, nudging him teasingly. "Better watch it, Dumbar, or people might think you're starting to like me."
Liam chuckles softly, wiping away his teary eyes. "Don't get ahead of yourself, Leo. I'm just too tired to argue."
Leora smiles faintly, feeling a little better seeing him lighten up, even if just a little. "Tired or not, I'm right. We're gonna save Mason. You, me, Scott, all of us. We're a team, remember?"
Liam nods, the corners of his lips tugging into a slight smile. "Yeah, I remember." He pauses, then adds, "Thanks, Leo."
Leora shrugs, looking away from him and focusing on the floor. She couldn't meet his gaze, afraid her cheeks would turn red. She wasn't sure why, but she always got butterflies in her stomach when she saw his genuine smile. "Don't mention it." She mumbled, her heart racing a little. She didn't know why, but the moment felt so intimate and personal. What was going on with her? This was Liam, the guy who was supposed to be her nemesis, not someone she had feelings for. She quickly brushed the thoughts aside, trying to focus on the matter at hand.
Scott soon returned and told them to get up, earning confused looks from them.
"Why?" Liam asked, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Because I've got an idea." Scott responds. "And because this isn't over."
****
The trio are now in Lydia's room. Scott and Liam help Lydia sit up gently. Lydia had bandages on her neck from where Sebastien cut her. Leora frowned as Lydia groaned in pain as she sat up. Leora was itching to help her, to use her healing powers on her and even started to reach her hand out to her, but after seeing the look Liam sent her she pulled her hand back. She could barely stand on her own at the moment, she was leaning on the bed and slightly on Liam's side.
Stiles and Melissa then walk into the room and close the door. "Lydia, this is gonna have to be just between us since I can get fired for it." Melissa muttered.
"It's a cortisone shot." Scott explains. "It's gonna bring the inflammation down." Lydia nodded in response and laid her hand out while Melissa got the shot ready.
"Not there." Melissa gently pulled back the bandage on Lydia's neck, causing her to grimace in pain.
"Oh, yeah, okay, I'm gonna need to leave." Stiles grumbled, feeling lightheaded already.
"You're not going anywhere." Melissa tells him. "Hold her hand." She told Stiles.
"Okay, fine. I'm not leaving, but I still might faint." Stiles admitted, walking over to take Lydia's hand in his.
"Okay. Here we go." Melissa softly said.
Everyone glances over at Liam with surprise when he suddenly fainted. "Didn't see that coming." Leora muttered, half-amused despite the tense situation. She had started to go check on him along with Scott, surprising herself yet again. But then she regained her senses and stayed where she was. She was supposed to not care about him, but then why did she want to make sure he was alright? Why did her heart ache a little when she saw him passed out on the floor?
"I can use my powers to help relieve the pain." Leora quickly offers. She stands after making sure Scott had Liam handled and moves to stand by Lydia. "I swear I'm fine." She tells her when she gets a worried look from her and Melissa. "You need my help." She said firmly. "She needs my help even more. Just let me help." She insisted, her voice firm despite the lingering weakness in her body. Melissa hesitated, clearly torn between trusting Leora's abilities and worrying about her condition. But Lydia's pained expression seemed to sway her decision.
"Leora," Scott speaks up with a sigh, glancing over at her after he stood along with Liam. "You shouldn't push yourself. You're not strong enough right now."
Leora's determination flickers with frustration. She knew Scott was right, but seeing Lydia in pain was tearing her apart. "Scott, I can do this," She protests, her tone desperate. "I have to. Lydia needs me." She pleads with him. "Please, Scott."
Scott's expression softened, understanding the depth of Leora's concern and determination. He glanced at Lydia, who looked back at him with a mixture of pain and hope. Leora's words resonated with him; he knew her healing powers were potent, but he was equally aware of the toll they took on her. He sighed inwardly, torn between trusting her resolve and protecting her well-being.
"Leora," Scott began gently, placing a hand on her shoulder. "I know you want to help, and so do I. But you've pushed yourself so hard already. We can't afford to risk your health any further." His voice was filled with empathy and concern, his eyes meeting hers earnestly.
Leora felt a pang of frustration and helplessness. She hated feeling powerless when her friends needed her the most. "Scott, please," She pleads, her voice wavering slightly with emotion. "I promise I'll be careful. I just...I can't stand seeing her like this, knowing I can help." Her eyes pleaded with him, silently begging for understanding.
Scott hesitated, his heart torn between his loyalty to Lydia and his responsibility to Leora. He knew she was stubborn and determined, qualities he both admired and sometimes found exasperating. "Okay," He relents finally, a sigh escaping him. "But just a little. Don't overexert yourself. We need you strong for what comes next." He squeezed her shoulder reassuringly before stepping aside, trusting her to do what she believed was right.
Leora nods gratefully, her resolve hardening once more as she approached Lydia. Melissa watched her with a mix of skepticism and concern, but she stepped back, allowing Leora to take over. Leora turns to Lydia, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. "It's going to be okay, Lydia,." She murmured softly, her voice infused with determination. She closed her eyes, concentrating on her powers, feeling the warmth flowing through her. She was weak, but her will was stronger than ever.
"Here goes nothing." She whispered, channeling all her strength into her hands, willing the healing energy to flow.
Lydia gasps as she feels Leora's powers surge through her. The pain in her neck and throat slowly numbs as Leora's healing aura soothes her skin, bringing a sense of relief and calmness. Leora grits her teeth, forcing herself to stay focused, ignoring the fatigue and weakness coursing through her body. "Okay, Lydia, this is gonna hurt like a b**h." Melissa warned. She got the needle ready and inserted it into Lydia's neck, causing her to let out a silent scream and her to grip Stiles' hands. Leora's healing power helped a ton, they were able to see the pain in Lydia's face slowly disappear.
Leora's knees buckle a little as she tries her best to maintain her focus. Her strength was waning, the fatigue overwhelming her. She clenched her jaw, refusing to give in. Lydia needed her. Her friends needed her. She couldn't let them down. "Okay, that's enough." Scott's voice gains her attention and she lets herself stop using her powers, taking a step back. She sways a little, her head spinning and her vision blurring. Scott was quick to grab her arm and support her, preventing her from falling. "Easy." He murmurs softly, steadying her. He could feel the fatigue radiating off her, the strain of her exertions weighing heavily on her body. "This is why I said not to push yourself." He reprimanded gently, his tone a mix of worry and exasperation.
Leora gives him a weak smile, her eyes heavy-lidded and her breaths coming in short gasps. "Had to." She mumbles, her words slurring slightly. She stumbles a little, her legs shaking and her vision growing hazy. "Lydia...needed me."
Scott sighs, his concern for her overriding his frustration. "You're gonna be the death of me, Leora." He muttered, guiding her over to the chair and helping her sit down.
"Thanks, Scotty." Leora slurred, her head drooping against his chest. She feels herself slipping into unconsciousness, the last thing she remembers before darkness claims her being the warmth and safety of Scott's arms.
"What are we gonna do now? We can't just leave her here." Liam spoke up, eying Leora with concern. He was still shaken up from passing out earlier, his nerves stretched thin by the events of the past few days. But seeing Leora collapse again, the toll her powers had taken on her body evident, made him feel a new kind of fear and worry. He couldn't ignore the pang in his chest, a mixture of concern for Leora and the desperation to save Mason. "We have to find Mason, but what about her?"
Scott's gaze followed Liam's, his concern for Leora evident on his face. "I don't know." He admitted, his voice tinged with frustration and guilt. "We can't just leave her here, but we can't risk her life either."
"She will be fine here, Scott." Melissa speaks up, reassuring her son and his friends. "I'll keep an eye on her, we can leave her in this room. You guys go take care of things. I can try to find something to help her. Or maybe Deaton might have something." She offered.
"Thank you, mom." Scott says softly. "We appreciate it." As Liam and Stiles help Lydia off the bed, Scott picked Leora up and gently placed her on the bed, resting her head on the pillow and pulling the blanket up.
Leora didn't wake up which was good. She needed rest. Scott leaned over and placed a kiss on her forehead before he stood and joined the others that had walked out to the hallway. Leora had always been like a little sister to him, her safety was important to him and he didn't like her being put in danger. But he also knew her well, and he knew that even if he tried to protect her, she would insist on helping her friends no matter the cost. That's just who she was, and it was one of the many things he admired about her.
"She'll be fine, Scott." Melissa assured her son, sensing his lingering worry.
"I know. It's just...I can't lose her too." Scott muttered, his voice laced with anguish and remorse. He couldn't help but feel responsible for Leora's current condition, the guilt gnawing at him. If only he had convinced her not to use her powers so much, maybe she wouldn't have pushed herself so hard and collapsed again.
"You won't. I'll take care of her." Melissa promises, placing a comforting hand on his arm. "Go. Do what you have to do. I'll make sure she's okay."
"Thanks, mom." Scott replied gratefully, smiling at her and walking to the door. He paused, glancing back at Leora one last time before stepping outside. Melissa sighed, turning back to Leora. Maybe she needed to call her brother to let him know what was happening, he should know. She reached for her phone, deciding to call her brother to update him on the situation. Leora slept soundly, finally getting the rest she needed. She didn't even wake when Melissa left the room.
