18. Can you move your seat up?

The next day, Steve, Sam, Bucky, Becca and Mary were in an underground parking lot. The car in front of them was occupied by Mary's very own apprentice, Evelyn Erskine. The British/German girl had been called by her mentor, having pull when she uses her great grandfather's name of Erskine. She managed to get into the compound with the help of Sharon Carter to get the five of them their uniforms out of lock up and back into their hands.

Evelyn chuckles as she steps out of her own rental car, watching Steve do the same from his own car. As she walked over to her trunk, Steve met up with her. "I'm not sure you understand the concept of a getaway car." The apprentice teased the Captain. Steve could hear the snickering laughter of his sister in the backseat beside her husband and daughter.

Steve smirked in return as Evelyn opened her trunk, "It's low profile." He replied smoothly.

"That's good, because these things tend to draw a crowd." Evelyn retorts, her trunk filled with Steve's uniform and shield, Sam's wings, Mary's repulser gloves and boots along with her uniform, Becca's uniform and Bucky's.

Mary looked away from her brother and apprentice when Bucky looks up from the backseat at Sam, "Can you move your seat up?" Bucky asks gruffly, Becca snuggled into her mother's arms on the opposite side of Mary.

"No." Sam replied, causing Mary to roll her eyes at her friend.

"Come on, Sammy. Really?" Mary asks.

"He ripped the steering wheel from my car and nearly killed me, no i'm not gonna move my seat up." Sam states.

Mary huffs, then yelps in surprise when Bucky lifts his wife off of the middle seat. He scoots over to where she was sitting and places her on his lap, his arms securing themselves around her protectively, "James." She mutters, pushing his hair behind his ear. The couple earning a loud groan from the man in the front seat.

"You two are sickening." The African American friend states, earning a smirk from the former Hydra assassin knowing he's made the other man uncomfortable.

Mary rolls her eyes at both men in the car, "Would you two stop? I'm trying to listen to what Steve is talking about with Eva." She states, carefully rolling down the window to overhear the conversation.

Steve smiles at the brunette in front of him, recounting the times she's done things for him since they met only a little more than a year ago when Evelyn took over Pietro's recovery. The captain would often make time to see the doctor in her environment. He loved seeing his sister in her element with her apprentice. Her only other apprentice was making his own name for years by then in the medical field as the world's top neurosurgeon. "I owe you again." Steve tells the apprentice.

Evelyn shakes her head, her face heating up sightly, "Again? This is the first thing i've done for you.." She recounts, trying to remember when she did something for Steve before but she can't think of anything.

"Your great grandfather made me who i am today. In a way, i owe you for what he did for me." Steve points out, remembering his time with the original Doctor Erskine. The young Doctor Erskine in front of him gave him emotions he hadn't felt since the forties. When another certain brunette with an accent came into his life.

Evelyn shakes her head, smiling softly, "He did it because you were the right choice. It's because of yourself that you are who you are today." She commends the Captain, "Der Opa just helped you become greater." She states, looking up into the ocean eyes of the Captain she fell for months ago.

Steve smiles softly, looking over the small woman in front of him with the last name forwarding her to greatness if she chose to pursue it. "You know they'll come looking for you. You didn't have to do this, putting your life on the line for us, your career, your future."

"I have no future if Mary isn't apart of it. You're her family. I have to do right by her. Der Opa would want it that way. I just hope he'd be proud of me." Evelyn replies. She was right, without Mary, she couldn't finish training, her future and career would be put on hold indefinitely with Mary gone. Even with the name of Erskine, she had a lot of history on her shoulders to keep afloat in the chaotic world they live in now. She'd have to prove herself in the medical world that she's worthy of her last name. And Mary was helping her achieve that goal. To be worthy of the last name Erskine.

Steve smiles softly as he looks over the gear, then looks up into the deep brown eyes of the girl he knew he would fight for in the end. He never expected to fall for anyone else after Peggy. But in front of him was a woman with a heavy legacy to carry alone on her shoulders. They both were the legacy of Abraham Erskine, and he wanted to help carry that weight. "He would be proud." Steve points out. All Evelyn can do is nod in appreciation. But the Captain gets a burst of courage and pulls the young doctor into his arms, their lips crashing together for the first time. Evelyn is frozen in her movements until she feels her body relax in the arms of Steve Rogers. Their lips molded together like the two were made specifically for each other. Steve finally knew why his sister did what she did for Bucky. And he knew he would do everything in his power to protect Evelyn from the dangers that would befall her after everything went down.

When the two break apart, Evelyn's feet rest on top of Steve's, giving her some extra height to reach the Captain. Their breathing is unsteady and their foreheads pressed together as they take in what had just transpired before them. "That was.." Evelyn trails off, still needing to catch her breath.

"Perfect." Steve responds, smiling widely at the girl in his arms.

"I was going to say unexpected." The young doctor states, a smile wide on her own lips. The two take a moment still in each others arms before breaking apart, "I should go." Evelyn says quietly, despite not wanting to leave the man who swept her off her feet.

"Okay." Steve responds quietly, planting a small kiss on her forehead before she leaves to go back to her car. The brother looks over at the people in the getaway bug. Sheepishly smiling when he sees his sister with a huge grin on her face, and smug grins on Sam and Bucky's faces as they both nod in approval.

"About damn time, Steven. I've had a bet with Pietro and Wanda since Eva started taking over his recovery." Mary quips as Steve climbs back into the drivers side after putting the gear in the trunk of the bug. All the brother can do is smile more.

The five pull into the parking space adjacent to where a white van is. They file out of the car was people from the van also come out. Mary smiles when she sees Clint greet Steve. Becca grins as she sees her Uncle Clint for the first time in close to a year. Bucky stands away from the gathering people, Mary in front of him with his arms wrapped loosely around her neck and waist protectively. The husband not wanting to be far from his wife after just getting her back.

"You know i wouldn't have called if i had any other choice." Steve states to the archer as they shake hands.

"Hey, you're doing me a favor." Clint responds as Wanda walks along side of him, her arms crossed comfortably in front of her chest as Steve greets her.

"Thanks for having my back." Steve states to Wanda.

The young girl looks over at the archer, "It was time to get off my ass." She quips, her eyes looking over and landing on her sister. A small smile graces her lips when she sees the pure bliss of Mary's face as she's wrapped in the arms of her husband. The young girl beside them Wanda assumes to be Becca, Mary's daughter that she hadn't been able to meet yet.

"How about our other recruit?" Steve asks. Sam smirks slightly as he leans against the car.

Clint chuckles as he walks over to the van, "He's rarin' to go." Clint states, opening the door to the inside of the van, "Maybe put a little coffee in him." He adds, the door sliding completely open jerking the man awake, "But he should be good."

Mary chuckles as she sees Scott Lang hobble out of the van. She was close friends with Hank Pym during his time in Shield and still kept in touch every once in a while. She had heard what happened at Pym labs not too long ago, and how Hank had recruited a new Ant Man.

"What time zone is this?" Scott asks groggily, taking in his new surroundings as his eyes widen when he sees Captain America.

"Ca- Captain America." Scott says quietly, obviously starstruck by the man in front of him. He shakes his hand as Steve returns the gesture.

"Mr. Lang." Steve responds.

"It's an honor." Scott states, still starstruck, his eyes widen slightly, "I'm shaking your hand too long." He adds nervously as he lets go, "Wow! This is awesome!" He says as he looks around, seeing Clint, "I know you, you're great!" He states, then sizes up Steve, taking in Mary's brother as he places his hands on Steve's biceps, "Jeez." He whispers, then looks at the team, "Ah, look, i wanna say. I know you know a lot of super people, so.. thinks for thanking of me." Steve raises an eyebrow with an amused smile on his face. Becca's giggles can be heard by everyone as she stands beside her Uncle Sam. Scott looks over at Sam, "Hey, man!"

"What's up, Tic Tac?" Sam responds, his arm draped over Becca's shoulders as she leans into his embrace.

"Look, what happened last time when i-"

"It was a great audition, but it'll never happen again." Sam quips with an amused smile on his own lips.

Steve looks over at Scott, "They tell you what we're up against?"

Scott looks at the group, then back at the Captain, "Something about, some psycho assassins?"

"We're outside the law on this one." Mary states from her spot in front of her husband, "So if you come with us, you're a wanted man." She warns the apprentice of Hank Pym.

Scott nods, shrugging, "Yeah, well. What else is new?"

"We should get moving." Bucky speaks up for the first time, comforted by his wife but still on edge about the oncoming danger looming over their heads.

"We got a chopper lined up." Clint responds as sirens go off in the air port. A man over the loud speaker begins to speak in German. Mary looks over at her husband and daughter for a translation.

"They're evacuating the airport." Bucky states as translator for the group, Becca nods in agreement.

"Stark." Sam states calmly, keeping Becca close to his side.

"Stark?" Scott asks dumbfound.

"Suit up." Steve states to the team.

Steve and Mary walk side by side in their gear. The shield firmly on Steve's arm as he and his sister run to the helicopter Clint had for them. Mary's eyes widen when she sees something land on the chopper, watching it shirt circuit. Her eyes narrow slightly when she knows it's her son's doing. Tony and Rhodey fly down to meet with the siblings.

"Wow it's so weird how you run into people at the airport." Tony quips, "Don't you think that's weird?" He asks Rhodey as his face mask reveals his face.

"Definitely weird." Rhodey responds.

"Here us out, Tony." Steve states calmly.

"That doctor, the psychiatrist, he's behind all of this." Mary tries to explain to her son. Mary and Steve look over as T'Challa, dressed in his Black Panther uniform enters the conversation.

"Captain, Doctor." T'Challa greets deeply.

"Your highness." The siblings greet in unison.

"Anyway. Ross gave me thirty-six hours to bring you in. That was twenty-four hours ago." Tony starts was he walks around Rhodey, his eyes never leaving his mom, "Can you help your son out?" Tony asks, directly talking to his mom. But Mary remains quiet.

"You're after the wrong guy." Steve states.

Tony's eyes narrow, "Your judgement is askew. Your brother in law killed innocent people yesterday-"

"And there are five more super soldiers just like him." Steve cuts Tony off.

"We can't let the doctor find them first. We can't." Mary adds, trying to plead with her son but he wont listen to their explanations.

"Steve, Mary." Natasha enters the conversation, Mary's heart aches when she knows she'll have to fight her sister. "You both know what's about to happen. Do you really want to punch your way out of this one?"

The siblings remain silent, not wanting to drag this out any longer just as much as everyone else. Tony huffs out a breath in frustration, "Alright, i've run out of patience." He states as he holds his hands to cup over his mouth, "Underoos!"

Mary's eyes widen as she looks up when webbing attaches itself to Steve's shield and webs both of the siblings's hands together, "Peter." Mary whispers quietly, knowing the boy can hear her. Spiderman lands on top of a luggage puller with Steve's shield in his grasp. Mary takes notice of the new suit, clearly upgraded by Tony for this moment. The suit that Becca had asked Tony to make. The mother's heart ached more when she realized that Peter was on Tony's side. Meaning that Becca and Peter would have to fight each other if this went south.

"Nice job, kid." Tony states.

"Thanks. I could have stuck the landing a little better, it's just new suit- It's nothing, Mr. Stark. It's perfect, thank you." Peter rambles nervously. Mary can only chuckle solemnly as she looks down at her webbed hands. She helped Peter when he was first bitten, helping him adjust to his new abilities and life style. Now they were on opposing teams.

"Yeah, we don't really need to start a conversation." Tony quips.

"Okay." Peter breathes, then looks over at Steve, "Cap. Captain, nice to see you again, i'm Spiderman." He mutters, then looks at Mary, "H- Hi, Mary.." He mumbles.

"Yeah we'll talk about it later." Tony grumbles.

"Hey everyone." Peter adds.

"Good job." Tony mutters.

"You've been busy." Steve states, pointing with his head to Peter.

"And you've been a complete idiot. Dragging in Clint, "Rescuing" Wanda from a place she doesn't even want to leave, a safe place. Dragging my mother and sister into this mess!" Tony shouts in frustration, "I'm trying to keep..." Tony sighs, collecting himself as Mary can only watch her son, "I'm trying to keep you both from tearing the Avengers apart." Tony finishes, and Mary's heart begins to break.

"You did that when you signed." Steve snaps, and Mary's heart shatters as she watches two of her most loved people in her life fight.

"Tony please.. Don't do this. I know you, i raised you. You don't want to do this." Mary pleads, then looks up at her brother who has a stern look on his face as he stares down Tony.

"Alright, we're done." Tony snaps, "You both are gonna turn Barnes over. You're gonna come with us, now. Because it's us, or a squad of J-SOC guys with no compunction about being impolite." Tony snaps again, no longer seeing his mother and his friend. All he sees is red. "Come on." He pleads under his breath.

I used Google Translate for Evelyn's German use of Grandfather, but it's not always accurate. If it's incorrect i'd love for one of you readers, if you know German, to comment the correct usage!
