Chapter 2 | Lost in Dreams

*currently right after the finale*

Ezra opened his eyes, blinking the spots out of his vision. The blue of hyperspace evaporated from his eyes and he slowly looked around. He panicked for a second looking at the space Thrawn once occupied feeling his heart drop when he saw that it was empty, there wasn't an angry blue chiss glaring at him anymore.

Where did he go? Ezra thought to himself, suddenly wincing in pain, feeling like a knife was stabbing him in his shoulder. He mumbled curse words to himself and held the wound. I need to get this patched up. He thought some more and made his way over to the window. He hopefully would get an idea of where the Purgil hyperspaced him to, part of him hoped with all his might he would see Imperial ships retreating to hyperspace away from his planet. He hoped more than anything that the ghost would do a fly by and comm him. Hera's voice would crack through the speakers, throwing burns at Thrawn when it really just was her space son receiving them.

"What this can't be?" He talked out loud to no one in particular, being jolted out of his daydreams when he looked out the window, down below Thrawn's broken star destroyer was the planet of Lothal, but something was off about it, well at least to him. The planet looked different, it looked clean, it looked healthy and other than the star destroyer that he was on, no other imperial ships surrounded his home planet.

Ezra shook off his confusion and left the bridge, knowing he did no good gaping at the planet's sudden change of appearance. He still wondered where Thrawn had disappeared off to, praying to the force he wasn't hurting anyone.

His footsteps echoed all around him as he walked, finding his mind dwell on his friends. He thought he should be worried about them, but he found himself knowing that he saved them. He didn't know how he knew, he just knew they were safe and knew they all made it out alive because of him, because of his sacrifice. He felt tears dwell up in his eyes and focused on something different.

The whole star destroyer was deserted as far as Ezra could tell, he even tried sensing for life, but just found he was the only one there. It was an odd feeling, knowing he was alone. He was alone most of his life, until he found Kanan or more accurately tried to steal from Kanan, who was stealing from the Empire.

He rubbed his arms, slightly, feeling a chill run down his spine as he finally reached the desolate medic bay, desolate just like everything else. Sitting down on one of the beds, he booted up the old-new medical droid, figuring he didn't have anything to lose.

"What is your state of emergency?" The medic droid asked Ezra, in a monotone voice, immediately starting a scan of his body.

"Blaster wound to the shoulder." Ezra replied and felt the medic droid stab him in the arm with a pain killer. "Warn me next time, please." He informed the droid, almost force pushing it away when he felt his arm being stabbed.

"Sorry, sir." It responded, somehow sounding sarcastic, but soon the throbbing pain in his shoulder evaporated into a dull one.

How come out of all the medic droids, I get the one who would probably be rebooted right away if it treated any imperials like that. He thought as the droid began to wrap up his wound with a bacta patch.

Ezra wished again he wasn't alone, being alone meant he could't stop worrying about what to do after this ended, couldn't stop thinking about his friends, what was he supposed to do after the droid stopped working and it was him and the empty star destroyer hallways again. He thought about bringing the droid along for the adventure, but he only felt like he was just replacing Chopper. He couldn't bring himself to do that. He hoped that wherever the rust bucket was, that he was keeping Hera happy.

The droid soon finished treating his wound, sooner than Ezra would have liked him to finish and told him that with the bacta patch it should heal in just about an hour. Ezra thanked the droid, out of habit and the droid replied with a modest you're welcome. Ezra then turned off the medical droid and stood up again, glad he didn't have to hold his shoulder anymore. One step at a time. He thought. One move at a time.

The lost boy began to form a plan in his head and made his way back to the bridge of the star destroyer. A star destroyer in orbit would definitely draw attention and the last thing Ezra wanted was to be thrown into yet another fire fight. He hoped the ship had enough energy left to get to the surface, he knew plenty of spots where he could park a star destroyer and no one would be the wiser, unless the Empire was still in control of the planet. He felt they weren't, he felt like they weren't even down there.

He had a small strand of hope he would find his friends, that he would land the ship and be greeted with a hug from Hera, which would end in her lecturing him about scaring her and to never do anything like that again. Then a hug from Zeb, which would quickly turn into the lasat giving him a noggie. Chopper would then beep disappointed that he had survived and claim he's still keeping Ezra's bunk. Finally the rest of the crew would break away leaving him and Sabine staring at each other for a moment.

She would break the silence and make a remark about how much he scared Hera and how much of an idiot he was for pulling something like that. She would then smile and say, "Despite all of that, you did it."

"We did it." He would respond, correcting her phrase and returning her smile.

"We did it." She would respond back, then not being able to control his happiness any longer he would bring her into a hug too.

"I always knew I could count on you." He would smile again at his long time friend and she would smile back, but none of that would happen...

There wasn't going to be reunion hugs.

No lectures from worried family.

Not even a smile of reassurance to assure Ezra he really did do it, that he made them all proud.

There wasn't going to be that, there only was going to be emptiness and darkness, there was only going to be a void of air where his friends once were or more correctly will be.

So the lost boy landed the star destroyer in a field way outside any of Lothal's towns, near where he believed his friends once were and as he expected it he found it empty just as empty as a freshly dug grave, waiting for the coffin.

No Zeb.

No Chopper.

No Hera.

No Sabine.

And absolutely no Kanan.

No one to save him.

No one to hug him.

And no one to be proud of him.
