Chapter 19: Training

"Hurry up, Adam!"

Adam heard Ian's voice yell as he was rounding his 49th lap of the compound. Ian had been drilling Adam to prepare him for the end. Hours of rigorous training that reminded him of when training recruits. He currently had Adam doing at least 50 laps each training session to help improve his stamina. Now Ian was timing him to make sure he quickened his pace.

He made it past the finish line and continued going, barely hearing Ian yell "One more lap!"To the rest of the team watching, Adam ran past like a blur. His increased speed from his powers was very clearly on display to them now, whether Adam knew it or not. Mitch and Jerome had a bet going on whether or not Adam would accidentally run into a wall and/or someone. Mitch had faith in Adam. Jerome didn't.

Adam almost tripped over another crack in the ground as he ran. He was finding this training to be helping a lot now. He was barely even breaking a sweat! Hopefully, this meant that he'd be able to not immediately pass out when they found the heart-

"ADAM!"

Adam didn't realize he wasn't focused on where he was going until he accidentally tackled Ian full force. Both of them hit the ground hard at that and lay there groaning. Both could hear Jerome laughing his ass off while Mitch reluctantly paid his friend what he owed. Quentin meanwhile hurried over to help them up, checking Ian's leg to make sure it was still ok, which thankfully, it was.

"Sorry, Ian. Kinda got lost in thought again."

"Ugh, it's fine, Adam. But don't do that while running full speed like that. You could kill someone if you hit them hard enough or you were holding a weapon." Ian scowled the last part, but he clearly wasn't that mad.

Adam sighed "I know. I know. I'll be more careful next time." He muttered "You better be, cause now we're practising your flying."

Adam looked up at that "Excuse me?" He demanded "I haven't flown since the last time we practised! Seto had to get me down from the roof!" He shifted nervously once on his feet, he didn't want to relive that disaster.

Ian rolled his eyes "I know, that's why we're practising. You have decent control of your strength and your stamina now. Your speed is decent too when you're paying attention, but we're fighting a dragon, you need to be able that least hover. If someone topples off the edge, you're our best shot of saving them."

That was true. He and Ian had been going over and over in planning sessions various strategies they could use in the heart, what they knew and had learnt from their last... incidents and everything that could go wrong. Adam had the powers that could help them win and save Ty, he just needed to practise them.

Adam threw his hands up in defeat "Fine fine, you're right," He took a breath, "Let's get this over with."

'It's easier than you think.' Hero's voice added 'You just need to stop-'

'Shut up.' I cut him off.

Ian charted out his course. First, he had to fly up to the top of the wall, then over the obstacle coursed stopping at each checkpoint until he landed back where he started. He took aim just above the wall, that where he wanted to go. He tried to take it slow, but no, he needed to figure this out. Just go, not think about it and try. He took off sprinting at the wall before Ian even yelled go. When he was close enough to the wall, he braced himself and leapt. He felt air whistling past him while his body's propelled upwards before he came to land on the wall. No, not land. He didn't feel his feet touching the ground. He was flying just above the wall. He laughed softly and wobbled for a moment before adjusting himself.

Ian walked to the base of the wall and looked up at him "This wasn't what I had in mind but good job!" His voice only barely reached Adam's ears "Now get down here so you can finish this course!"

Adam hesitated. He wasn't sure how he would get down. Did he have to force himself to fly down or- He wobbled again.

'Don't think.' Hero's voice suddenly ordered 'Just do.'

Adam wanted to snap back at him, but he didn't want to lose focus. What else did he have to lose? Not like the fall would kill him... he hoped. He looked down at where he wanted to land. Just next to Ian. Jerome and Mitch were making more bets while Quentin watched intently from the stands.

Against expectations, his body started to float down, as If the air under him was parting to allow him through. Sure enough, his feet met the solid land next to him. He did it, he actually did it! Quentin, Jerome and Mitch all cheered while Jerome returned the gold he'd bet to Mitch. Adam was overjoyed. It was small, but it was progress! He could keep practising, and soon enough, he is ready for the Heart of the End. They would save Ty. No one else would get to get hurt-

"Guys!" The entrance to the training grounds was thrown open, and Brice sprinted to them, stopping to pant and regain his composure "Infirmary... Need... You..."

Quentin was up and ready to follow him "You guys stay here, I'll see what's wrong."

"No,' Brice managed to stand up straight, he looked pale, panicked "Jason needs you all there now."

Everyone was on their feet at the mention of Jason, worry evident on their faces. "What's wrong?" Jerome demanded

"Seto's in a coma. And he's... you guys need to see for yourself..."

Incase people were confused, cause like, I wrote the chapter where they were in the End freaking years ago, Ian broke his leg in the fight and now, while healed, is still tender.

Thanks again to everyone that's stuck with me through this, you all are the real MVPs.

I'll try to get more out this month.
