Chapter 4: A Call for Help

When the door before us opened, Aneira and I quietly made our way through the room. The both of us intently focused on the task at hand. We have to get to that computer. Otherwise we won't have a way off the island. A foot ahead of me, Aneira opened another door. Swiftly, I made my way through it. When I did, I saw Aneira bend over a desk. With a speed I didn't know she had, Aneira typed away at the computer before her. So this is the computer she was talking about. Hmm, from the looks of it, this computer seems kind of old. It's big and the keyboard looks clunky. The mouse is also pretty big too. Well, maybe I shouldn't be too picky. After all, if it gets the job done, I shouldn't complain. As Aneira types away, a flurry of questions enter my mind. Who was that Blake she was talking about? And that mission she went on... what happened on it? The night New Haven was destroyed, I remember Aneira had gone on a mission with the Reaper Hunters. Should I ask her what happened? Maybe, but would she even want to talk about it? I mean, after all, it happened the same night New Haven was destroyed. Yeah, maybe I should hold of on that question. But the Blake one, I'll ask that one.

"So Aneira, you mentioned someone by the name of Blake? Who is he?" Aneira's typing suddenly stops. A sigh comes from her mouth.

"Blake... it's a long story. We don't have time for it." Aneira's typing resumes. We don't have time? I'm pretty sure we do. After all, we're stranded on an island. Probably located in the middle of nowhere. Plus, it's probably going to be awhile before help arrives. I'm sure we have the time to talk about it.

"I'm sure we have the time Aneira. After all, we're stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere. Help won't arrive for a while..." Aneira's typing stops again. Her head quickly turns to me. When it does, my body instantly goes rigid. A gasp makes an escape from my mouth. Her eyes... they're... red... Aneira's eyes... what is she?

"No Lydia. We do not have the time! Okay?" Aneira says, her voice seeping with rage. Immediately, I nod. When I do, Aneira goes back to typing. What the heck was that? Aneira's eyes were red! What the heck is she? What happened to her? And why is Blake such a tender topic? Why would she get so mad... oh... oh dang it! Why didn't I see it before? That Blake she was talking about... that must have been Blake Thompson. She must have found Blake! But if she did, why is she so upset about him? Why won't she talk about him? She did before, why is this time different? Something must have happened for her to get this upset. Should I talk to her? No, that will probably make her more upset. Maybe I should just save the question for another time. Yeah. I'll do that. Suddenly, Aneira speaks up.

"Lydia, I'm sorry about getting angry with you. It's just... a lot has happened over the past two weeks. New Haven was destroyed, Oakley was destroyed, other stuff. It's been hectic. I'm sorry Lydia." My rigid body begins to move. My arms extend toward my best friend. Before I knew it, I had already wrapped my best friend up in a hug. With a gentle squeeze and a soft smile, I tell her I forgive her. After all, she's Aneira. My best friend. What kind of best friend would I be if I didn't forgive her? Especially during one of her moments. Aneira's expression begins to change to a smile.

"Thanks Lydia."

"No problem. As much as I would love to ask about Blake, I won't. If you don't feel comfortable talking now, we'll talk later. Or whenever you feel like. It doesn't really matter..." Suddenly, Aneira cut me off.

"Thanks Lydia. But you deserve to know. And plus, I need to get his off my chest. It will just bother me until I spit it out. So, why not say it now when I have the chance? So... I guess you figured it out by now about who Blake is right?" Aneira asks.

"Yeah, Blake Thompson. Did you find him?" Immediately, Aneira nods. As she does, I notice her smile begin to drift away.

"I found him two weeks ago on my mission. Two weeks ago, I went on a mission with the Reaper Hunters. Our goal was to capture Aiden, the leader of the Reapers. We went in there, but... well to say the least, my team got slaughtered. All except the captain and me. I found Blake while I was wondering around the facility. Come to find out Aiden was Blake the whole time." Wait a minute! Blake was Aiden?! He was the ringleader of all of this?! But how? How could a shy sweet guy like him be capable of doing something so extreme? Seeing the look of shock on my face, Aneira continued.

"Yes Lydia. He was Aiden. I know it seems like a lie, but I have proof. When Blake gets here, ask him. He'll tell you. But yeah, so he's Aiden. Anyway, to make a long story short, he helped me escape New Haven. And Oakley. So, because he saved my life many times, we went back to being friends. However... uh I... uh... well... you see... I... uh! Why can't I get this out?! Man, this is stupid!" Aneira said, frustration rising. Immediately, I look at her. When I do, my eyes immediately notice the red slowly overtaking her face. Red? Wait a minute; Aneira's face only gets red when she's flustered. Which means... Awwwwww!

"Aneira! Do you have a cru..."

"No! I don't! I didn't! What are you suggesting? That I like him or something because I do not!" Aneira says, her voice almost at a yell. Immediately, my arms squeeze her tighter. Awww! Does my best friend have a crush? Aww that's sweet! Aneira's got a crush! Awwwww!

"Aneira!" I say, my arms continuing to squeeze her tighter.

"Lydia please stop. I don't have a crush okay? You know what, let's go! Come on. We're done here anyway. I sent the message to Blake. So, let's get out of here." Aneira breaks out of my hug and begins to walk away. I do too. Aneira and I step out the lounge. We continue to walk, mostly unaware of the dangers ahead of us.
