Chapter Eighteen

The thing Jack hated the most about being king... was not being the king. Witch was strange because he didn't want to be the king any way. Medda just continued to refuse to tell him what was happening with the rebellion, all she ever told him was to go spend time with your wife. And Jack did... boy did he... but, it was hard spending so much time with her when it made him feel more guilty every time he did it. True, he had reached a point where he could shut everything out while he did it but it wasn't easy...

And what was worse was he was starting to like it. Which only caused him more guilt because he knew he shouldn't enjoy it...

Oh Katherine... that sweet yet spunky girl of his. He liked her. A lot. Every day he found himself finding more and more things he loved about her. In fact, he'd reached the point where he almost wanted to tell her what he loved...

But that hadn't worked out so good.

And not to mention Meddas current condition, the doctors had given up on trying to find a cure for the cancer. She was going to die. And it broke Jacks heart to think about it, he could not do this with out his aunt. So... despite wanting to be more in charge of his country, he listened to Medda and (reluctantly) did what he was told.

Which just resulted in him spending 90% of his time between Katherine's legs.

All he had to do was get her pregnant and he would be done, Medda would have her grandkid, and the kingdom would have an heir. Unless that baby turned out to be a girl... then they'd be back to square one.

Which... wouldn't be bad considering Katherine was an art all in her own and Jack truthfully didn't mind pushing her legs apart every night. Even if it did make him feel guilty...

Gosh he was so conflicted.

"Hey Jackie boy!" A voice called to him as he was making his way up the castle stairs late one night. There was only one person who had enough guts to call him Jackie boy.

"Ya know Dave, I could have you hanged for calling me such a thing." Jack joked as David matched his stride with his best friend.

"What is this? 1582?" David asked sarcastically. "But that's not why I came to find you."

"What's up then?"

"This just came in the mail. It's for Katherine." David said handing Jack a sealed envelope. It looked weathered around the edges and felt too light to be anything more than just a page.

"Tanks man." Jack said slapping David's back. "I'll give it to her."

When Jack arrived in his chambers he found Katherine reading silently on the bed, her white night gown clung to her legs as she pulled the gown under her more comfortingly. Her bare legs rubbed together slightly as she turned the page absent mindedly and Jacks fingers twitched to touch her... or draw her. Either was becoming a constant past time for him. He couldn't even count how many pictures of her beautiful face he had stuffed inside his desk, or how many times he'd been tempted to make her sit down while he painted a proper portrait of her. Was it creepy that he was obsessive about drawing her lips? Or having to erase the pencil so much because he could never get her eyes just right? Or... was it even more strange that he did all this with out her knowledge?

But she was just so beautiful... and want-able.

Jack suddenly realized he'd been standing in the door way starring at her for far to long and he needed to make his presence known. He cleared his throat slightly and closed the door gently behind him as she looked up.

"Oh... Jack, your up quicker than I expected. I'm sorry, I was just reading a bit to pass the time." Katherine said closing her book and standing up quickly.

"You don't have to apologize." Jack said with a slight laugh and pried the buttons off around his neck. He always hated thoes things... he hated all his shirts. If he could walk around shirtless, he would.

Katherine hesitated as Jack walked up to her. "Do you... uh, want me on my back tonight?" She asked slightly dropping her eyes from his.

"Yes." Jack said switching his mind to 'the guilt free zone' "But I have something for you first."

He took out the letter from his back pocket and handed it to her. Katherine looked suprised to see the letter and held it like it was her most prized possession.

"Oh... it's from my mother, thank you." She said unfolding it and reading it hungrily.

"Don't mention it." Jack said stepping away into the large bathroom they shared. He striped off his shirt completely and tossed the blue fabric into the dirty clothes basket before turning on the sink to wash his face.

He splashed the water on his face and peered at the mirror to watch Katherine read the letter, her brown hair fell gently over one shoulder as she sat down on the edge of the bed. Her eyebrows were furrowed and she was biting her lip as if she had the urge to scream something from the top of her lungs. As Jack continued to watch her he let his eyes wander places he shouldn't but was allowed to. She rubbed the side of her leg with her foot gently as she read, and the see-though fabric did little to hide her legs from his view.

Jack forced himself to look away again and quickly dried his face. He was being stupid... he shouldn't be doing this again. But then again, he could do this again, and again, and again, because he should do this. Oh gosh... he was already too far gone.

"Katherine." Jack said quietly startling Katherine as she finished her letter.

"What? Oh, right I'm sorry." She said and quickly and set the letter down on the side table. Jack glanced at it but didn't have enough curiosity in him to question it.

All he wanted was Katherine.

A good hour later he decided it was time to call it quits, he could feel Katherine's heart beat everywhere on her body and she was breathing in gasps. Jack looked down at her and brushed her bangs away from her eyes loving the way her eyes were clouded with pleasure. Great... now he had something else he had to draw.

"Your wonderful." Jack said in her ear like he did every time.

"J-Jack? There's something I should probably tell you." Katherine said still catching her breath.

"Tell me later." Jack insisted pulling out from between her legs.

"No, I really think-"

"Katherine, sleep." He said giving her a look he knew she wasn't allowed to refuse. She closed her mouth and turned her head to the side looking slightly disappointed.

Jack shivered slightly in the warm air of August and wondered why, it wasn't cold in the room. Still, as he sat up he pulled the blanket tight around his shoulders. He flipped on the lamp light bed and grabbed a stray piece of paper and a pencil from the desk and started to draw. He glanced at Katherine to make sure she had fallen asleep before starting the outlines of her face.

He drew her heart shaped face first and then her lips next, he then did her hair and nose next, he decided to save her eyes for last because he had to make them perfect... brown and full of a sort of innocence as well as a dark side he knew she possessed deep under neath. Jack yawned as he admired what he'd done, just then something caught his attention on the bed side table.

It was Katherine's letter.

Jack sat up and swung his legs over the edge and grabbed the letter and unfolded it. It was about a page long full of elegant letters and persteine handwriting. Jack glanced back behind him to make sure Katherine was still sound asleep before turning back to the letter.

My beloved daughter,

Your father and I have been having the craziest few weeks of our life. Not only are the people being unreasonable, but they have started to turn there backs on your father. Their loyalty is wavering and were not sure how much longer they are going to last before they launch a serious attack on the Kingdom.

But despite everything that is happening I hope you are doing well. Me and your father miss you very much and hope you are happy. Speaking of which, are you pregnant yet? Medda recently wrote me and told me you haven't been feeling well these last few weeks. If so, congratulations! I'm SO proud of you. If not... keep trying! Send our best wishes to your husband!

Love, Mom.

Jack set the letter back down feeling a little guilty for reading her mail, but he was glad he did. At least he knew something about his country now, and that was a start. And then... that thing about Katherine. Was she pregnant yet? Jack doubted it, they'd only been married for a month. And not even that. Still... Katherine had been quite sick for the last little while...

Jack shook his head and quickly turned the light off, he laid under the covers and stretched out his hand until he could feel the smooth planes of Katherine's bare back. Jack grinned to himself and let his hand wrap around her and pulled her against his chest.

Her hair smelt like strawberries and it made his mouth water. Gee... just another thing he had to add to his list of things he loved about her. Which wasn't a bad thing, he just needed to step up his game and tell her.

And he needed to tell her soon.
