xv. nice friend
Jake didn't believe a single thing that has come out of Sensei Kreese's mouth since the day he walked into the dojo.
Like now, Jake was sandwiched in between Hawk and Aisha while Kreese told the three f them about his days in the war. Jake hated this situation; he didn't like talking about wars—he hated war movies and everything. It was too much death for him.
But Hawk had his hand wrapped around the boys wrist to keep him in the conversation. Jake would've had a better time stretching on the floor with Lilith and Miguel, even if he wound up their wheeling.
He wasn't even listening to Kreese's story, completely zoned out until Hawk spoke up from beside him. "How many warlords did you kill?" Hawk asked, making Jake blink and focus his attention back on the man in front of him.
Kreese raised an eyebrow. "Do you keep track of how many ants you step on?" He asked as a smirk grew on his face.
Jake frowned as if he had eaten something sour and looked down as his two friends laughed beside him. "Whoa..." Hawk breathed out.
"They were outgunned, we were outmanned. I tell you... Rwanda was no joke." Kreese breathed out, his face in a tired frown, but Jake could see a small glint in his eyes, silently telling him he was loving this attention.
"Don't you mean Somolia?"
All four turned at the sound of Lilith's voice. The girl stood off the ground while Miguel watched her with wide eyes, whispering her name in a reprimanding tone. But Lilith kept her eyes on Kreese, her arms crossed over her chest and her eyebrows furrowed. "Mogadishu is in Somolia. Rwanda is a whole other country."
Jake couldn't see Kreese face but Lilith watched the way his jaw clenched at her catching his mistake. He was frozen for a second before he let out a laugh. "Of course, Somolia!" He breathed out as if it were obvious.
Kreese moved to look back at Aisha, Jake and Hawk. "I've spent so much time in the sandbox, it all kinda bleeds together, you know?" Kreese whispered to the three, hoping to get them to understand.
Aisha and Hawk immediately nodded their head but Jake only stared at the man, eyeing him up and down.
Kreese noticed how Jake didn't believe his words like Aisha and Hawk did. His eyes squinted into a glare while his shoulders started to push back instinctively. His chin raised as some way to seem bigger and strong to Jake despite this only being a sixteen year old boy in front of him.
But suddenly, Johnny walked out of his office and Jake stepped out of the situation completely.
"Listen up!" Johnny screamed, causing all of the students to fall in. He eyed the sea of people in front of him, not recognizing a handful of faces. He started to walk through the rows of students, eyeing each person individually. "I see we've got some new recruits."
Even though Sensei Kreese was still spectating class—which Lilith thought was odd—she didn't necessarily see the man as a figure she had to listen to. Sure, he was her senseis sensei, but Kreese wasn't her sensei so she had no problem falling out of position to look back at the new students standing in toe behind her even though Kreese was standing right in front of her.
"I thought my last group of recruits was pathetic. But if you do what I tell you to do, you'll at least have a chance at becoming a fighter. But to do that, you've gotta fight." Johnny yelled as he walked back toward the front of the room. He stood right in front of Miguel and nodded his head to him. "So, which one of you has the balls to take on the champ?"
It was silent. Lilith looked back at the sea of new kids, all of them looking down at the floor instead of their sensei at the front of the room.
"I'll take him on!" A voice yelled from the back of the room.
Lilith watched as the crowd of students parted to reveal a girl with dyed blonde hair in the back of the room, her hands behind her back and a big smirk on her face.
Johnny took slow steps toward the girl, a single eyebrow raised. "Oh, you will, huh?" He asked and the girl shrugged. "I saw your little demo at Valley Fest. You guys can put on a show. Can you actually fight?" She asked and Lilith held back a chuckle from the back of the room. That comment would definitely piss Johnny off.
"Sounds like a challenge." He whispered and the girl raised her chin, her smirk only growing. "I like a challenge."
Johnny didn't move for a second, staring the girl down. After a while, Johnny stepped back and started to walk back to the front. "Mr. Diaz, show Little Miss Hotshot here what Cobra Kai is all about." Johnny yelled and the students immediately back up to stand around the mat.
Lilith stood in between Aisha and Jake, watching Miguel and the blonde get into their fighting positions.
Lilith leaned toward Aisha on her left, her eyes staying glued on the two teens about to fight on the center of the mat. "Ten bucks says the girl wins." She whispered into Aisha's ear and Aisha immediately chuckled.
"Oh, you're on."
Jake, who was standing on Lilith's right, heard his friends bet and smirked. He copied her actions, leaning toward Hawk on his other side. "Ten bucks says Lilith's right." Jake whispered once he realized Hawk had also heard Lilith's bet based of the snicker that left his lips.
Jake stuck his hand out, palm up for Hawk to high five and seal the deal. Hawk was the only one to look away from the fight.
His eyes were glued on Jake before they looked down at the boys hand.
When Hawk didn't respond, Jake finally pulled his eyes away from the fight to look at Hawk. The second their eyes locked, Hawk couldn't stop the smile on his face at the way the corner of Jake's eyes crinkled mischievously.
He quickly turned his smile into a smirk and high-fived Jake.
"Deal."
Just as they turned back to the fight, the new girl kicked Miguel in the chest. Jake and Hawk winced at the sight of the kick, watching as Miguel stumbled to catch his footing.
Once Miguel found his balance, his face hardened. "Alright... Game on." He said and the girl took his words as an invitation to keep attacking. She threw punches left and right and Miguel blocked everything.
Theo girl was so fast, Miguel had no time to break in and land any of his own punches. Instead, he stepped back, making some space between him and the girl.
When she ran at him, her leg raised to kick him, Miguel grabbed her leg and flipped her onto the ground.
Lilith gasped at the move and Aisha laughed from beside her.
The girl rolled to get off her back and when she was standing again, her and Miguel went back and forth.
Miguel yelled something to her, but Lilith couldn't hear him.
Suddenly, he kicked the girls leg in and she fell to her knees. Lilith gasped again and Jake brought a fist to his mouth to cover his shock.
Lilith watched as the girl raised her head to look up at Miguel. Her expression was different than it had been the rest of their fight. Before, the blondes face was tight in determination, but now, she looked needed to win, as if it were life and death.
She tackled Miguel, her arms wrapped around his waist until he hit the floor. Theo girl quickly shot back up and before Miguel could even process the first move, she kicked him in the gut, earning herself a point.
Lilith and Hake both smiled from the sidelines and beside them, Aisha and Hawks faces fell. Lilith turned to Aisha with a wide grin, holding her hand out happily. "Gimme my money." She muttered, her tone drastically different than the sweet smile on her face.
Jake, only looked to Hawk out of the corner of his eyes. His smile grew as he watched the boy roll his eyes and groan. "Hand it over, bird brain."
At the same time, Aisha and Hawk sighed, turning to walk toward their bags at the front of the room to grab their money.
Lilith looked back to the mat and noticed Miguel barely starting to sit up while the girl he just fought introduced herself to Sensei Lawrence and Sensei Kreese.
Lilith walked toward Miguel with a small smile and crouched down to his height. Her eyebrows pulled together as she pushed his hair back. "You okay, baby?" She asked.
Miguel only responded with a loud groan.
Lilith giggled under her breath, but she still watched him nervously, trying to find any tells that would let her know if Miguel was in serious pain.
"Anything hurt specifically?" Lilith asked and almost instantly, Miguel nodded. She would've thought Miguel would say his stomach hurt considering Tory had just kicked him.
But when Lilith asked Miguel what hurt, he only pointed to his mouth.
Then, his eyes locked with Lilith and any pain he was showing in his demeanor disappeared completely and he gave her a tired smirk. "Kiss it better for me?" He asked breathlessly.
Lilith rolled her eyes, but couldn't hide the smile growing on her face. "You're so stupid." She giggled out, but Miguel didn't take her words to heart because in the end, Lilith leaned into him, both of her hands grabbing either side of his jaw to pull him into a kiss.
...
After karate, Lilith, Aisha and Jake walked toward the convenient store just across the strip mall. On the walk, Aisha invited the two to go to the beach club with her and Lilith agreed right away, having nothing else planned for the day since Miguel already was busy with his mom and grandma.
But Jake was glued to his phone, hardly even listening to the two of them.
"Hello! Earth to Jake!" Aisha yelled while Lilith waved her hand in front of the boys face. Jake's head snapped up to look at the two girls as they all walked into the store.
"Sorry. What?" He asked and Aisha rolled her eyes, groaning as she threw her head back. Lilith snickered, looking up at Jake as they walked to the chip aisle. "Aisha asked us if we wanted to go to the beach club with her."
Jakes mouth opened and closed at the offer. He looked back and forth between the two girls before he looked back down at his phone. "Oh, I'll have to see. Demetri just texted saying he was wanting some compan—" Jake's words stopped when his phone beeped again.
"Let me guess, dick pic?" A voice said as they passed by. Lilith, Jake, and Aisha all looked up and saw the new girl standing in front of them.
Before Jake could answer—since it was his phone—Aisha beat him to it, a big smirk on her face. "No, but he wishes." Aisha teased, playfully elbowing Jake in the ribs.
The new girl chuckled and Jake's face redden. He spun around and slapped Aisha's shoulder, muttering a small, "shut up." He turned back to the new girl, trying his hardest to ignore the burning in his face growing from Aisha's comment. "These two want me to go to the beach club with them."
"You're saying that like it's a bad thing." Lilith scoffed, smacking Jake's chest before walking past the new girl to grab an iced tea from the fridge.
After she grabbed her drink, Lilith stood beside the now chuckling blonde. "Oh my God. That sounds so miserable." She playfully complained. Jake rolled his eyes, feeling extremely out numbered. "But I could have plans." His eyes moved to Aisha and he raised his eyebrows. "With a boy. Who could slowly start to fall in love with me." Jake hummed, placing a hand to his heart.
Aisha didn't answer though, only raising her eyebrows in a mocking expression.
Jake groaned at the silence, giving up on trying to convince the girls. "You know what? Whatever." He turned to the new girl and smiled. "I'm Jake. This is Lilith and Aisha." Jake introduced himself and pointed to his two friends.
The girl turned to Lilith beside her and Lilith smiled, tilting her head sweetly. "Hi." Lilith sang and the blondes eyes doubled in size.
"Woah, you're British." She giggled out, looking at Lilith in shock. Lilith smiled at her words before the new girl nodded back. "I'm Tory."
Lilith stepped closer to Tory, wrapping an arm around the girls shoulders as a small smirk started to grow on her face. "Well, Tory... Do you want to come to the beach club with us and give Jake the chance to restart his rant about this guy who he likes?" Lilith asked, pointing to Jake across from them with her iced tea.
Jake rolled her eyes as Tory let out a loud laugh. She looked to the two teens across from her before turning to Lilith beside her. Her smile softened as she nodded her head. "I guess I could suffer through a day at the beach." Tory happily hummed before she turned back to Jake, who was as red as a tomato.
"And it'll be nice to get some info on the people in this town since I'm new." Tory said, and Jake smiled, nodding his head.
Lilith smiled at that, accidentally shaking Tory because of it. "Sweet! Let's go!" She cheered, dropping her arm from around Tory and clapping her hands like some soccer mom. "Grab any snacks or drinks you want. It's on me!"
...
It ended up taking the four teens almost an hour to get to the beach club since Lilith had to drive to Jake and Tory's house to let them grab their swimwear and change.
When they got to the club, Lilith and Aisha lead Jake and Tory through the building until they ended up on the balcony that looked over the entire club and the ocean behind it.
Tory let out a small gasp at the sight and Jake, who was next to her, snickered at the way her eyes childishly sparkled. "Okay, this is not the beach." Tory breathed in as she soaked in the sight. She turned back to Jake, Lilith, and Aisha, her eyebrows scrunched together. "Where's the homeless dudes on rollerblades and the guys shoving shitty hip-hop demos in your face?"
Jake's eyes widened playfully and he held his hands up in a fake panic. "Careful! You might jinx it." He warned. Pressing his hands against the balcony he was leaning on, Jake pushed off so he was standing.
All the girls eyes followed him as he stepped back, taking the time to point finger guns at each of them. "I am gonna go to the bar. The bartender is always too drunk himself to ever ID anyone." Jake said as he started to back away toward the bar.
Tory perked up at the plan, immediately following him. "Oh! I'm going with you."
"Aisha and I will be at the snack bar!" Lilith called out to Tory and Jake, who were already inside the building. Jake barely craned his neck back to smile at the girls, but still waved enthusiastically.
"Okay!"
When he turned to face front, Jake locked eyes with Amanda LaRusso passing by.
She smiled at her daughter's friend, waving at the boy. "Oh! Hi, sweetheart." Amanda sang and Jake smiled back at the woman instead of waving. "Hi, Mrs. LaRusso!"
Tory watched the interaction carefully, noticing the way that as soon as the woman was no longer looking at Jake, his smile was wiped clean from his face. Her eyebrows furrowed as she stepped to walk closer beside him. "Who was that?" She whispered, looking over her shoulder at the woman before turning back to Jake.
Jake sighed, a sinking weight growing in his chest. "Our friend, Sam's mom." He whispered back, but the way he said it, there wasn't a single hint in his voice that would even make Tory think Jake was friends with Sam.
She giggled, raising her eyebrows jokingly. "You didn't sound too happy saying friend." Tory looked around the room before turning back to Jake, who was fighting back a smile. "You know, no one has a gun to your head, right?" She laughed out.
Jake scoffed out his own laugh, rolling his eyes. "I'm just a little... I don't know... irked with her, right now." He admitted, not able to meet Tory's eyes as his shoulders raised sheepishly.
Tory's eyebrows furrowed and gently, she nudged Jake's shoulder with her own. "What's up? You seem like you've been holding it in." Tory said and Jake sighed, finally looking up from the ground to send Tory a small look. "I kinda have."
"Well, I don't know the girl. So spill." Tory said. She wasn't trying to pry, but if Jake had been holding this in because everyone he knew had some sort of connection with Sam, Tory was gonna let him have that chance to talk about whatever it was he had been holding in.
It seemed like Jake was actually considering Tory's. His eyes were squinted and his lips were pursed as he thought about it. After a couple seconds, Jake figured it was better to tell an outsider before someone that already had some sort of relationship with Sam.
"You know that guy you fought today in karate?" Jake asked as they reached the bar.
They both sat down on bar stools and watched as the bartender stumbled from customer to customer, taking their orders while drinking his own pint of beer.
Tory nodded, starting to grow confused. She thought they were talking about this Sam, not Miguel. "Yeah, what does he have to do with this?" Tory asked as she shrugged her shoulders.
Jake opened his mouth to speak, but he noticed the bartender trip his way toward them. The man quickly took their order and just like Jake said earlier, he was too drunk to ask the two of them for their IDs.
When he walked away to make their drinks, Jake turned back to Tory with a sigh. "He's Lilith's boyfriend and like... ever since Sam's met the guy, she's had complete heart eyes for him." Jake explained, waving his hand the was resting on the bar around for dramatic effect.
Tory grimaced at Jake's words and he quickly butted in before she could say anything. "I mean... I don't think Sam will ever do anything because Lilith's her friend and I know it probably sucks for her."
Tory opened her mouth to jump in but when she saw Jake's eyebrows furrow and his shoulders start to tense, she quickly clamped her mouth shut, thinking he was still going.
"But as Lilith's best friend, it pisses me off how obvious she makes it sometimes. And it pisses me off that I can't tell Lilith." Jake was close to yelling, finally getting the chance to let out when he had been holding in for the past ten fucking months.
The bartender came over with their drinks and instead of saying thank you, Tory only nodded her head and Jake snatched the glass out of the man's hands, instantly taking a sip.
"Why can't you tell Lilith?" Tory asked, shaking her head as if her idea was some amazing revelation Jake hadn't thought of. She brought the tiny pink straw sticking out of her drink up to her lips as Jake sighed.
"Because Lilith adores Sam." Jake said, looking around the room, making sure no adults he recognized were around to catch him at the bar. Rethinking his words, Jake turned back to Tory and raised a defending hand. "Granted, Lilith adores all of her friends, but just... I don't know." He shrugged, looking down at his drink. "A part of me is worried she may get angry."
That, Tory laughed at.
"What's the problem with getting angry?" Tory asked. Having just met Lilith, Tory didn't know about Lilith's past and her anger issues.
Jake knew it wasn't his place to say, but he still had to tell Tory something. "Lilith just... anger's different with her." He quickly explained, his words a little sharper than they had been the rest of their conversation.
Tory got the hint and nodded. She looked around the bar and snickered when she saw the bartender across the way from her, leaning against the bar and flirting with some girls that sat across from her and Jake.
Since his back was turned, Tory readjusted in her barstool so she was closer to the bar. She noticed a bottle of vodka just a foot away from her.
She turned back to Jake, a small smile growing on her face as her eyebrows raised. "Well, if Sam's gonna be here, we should get more than one drink to keep you calm." Tory said softly, like a therapist talking to their patient.
Jake's eyebrows furrowed, his nose scrunching in the process. "What do you mean?" He asked and Tory licked her lips. She looked back at the bartender one last time and kept her eyes on him as she reached for the bottle of vodka.
As soon as her fingers wrapped around the glass, she pulled it off the bar and stashed it into her tote bag. It happened so fast, Jake almost missed it with a blink.
Tory turned back to Jake and was in a fit of giggles as she hopped off her stool, grabbing Jake's hand and attempting to tug him out of his seat. "Come on." She said through her giggles.
Quickly, Tory and Jake ran out of the bar and back outside, Jake leading Tory to the snack bar where Lilith and Aisha said they would be.
Jake's eyes were behind him instead of the snack bar, laughing despite being out of breath. He wanted to make sure the bartender didn't catch them, but since his eyes weren't in front of him, he didn't notice Sam standing with Lilith and Aisha at the snack bar.
Lilith was the one to notice Jake and Tory running toward them, hearing their loud laughter and loud footsteps. Her smile brightened at the sight of them, wanting to introduce Tory to Sam.
"Hey!" She called out, making Tory and Jake finally notice the three girls.
Their running slowed and Tory tried to catch her breath while still letting out airy chuckles. From beside her, Jake's smile left completely at the sight of Sam there. He wasn't glaring, but his face was just... neutral.
Tory, still holding Jake's hand, tugged him toward the three girls and once the five of them were in a small huddle, she reached into her bag and pulled out the top half of the bottle of alcohol. "Hey! Look what we got!"
Lilith smiled at the sight, but from beside her, Sam's smile fell when she saw the bottle of vodka. Her eyes moved up the girls tote bag until they landed on Tory, who had a big grin on her face as she hid the bottle back in her bag.
"Swiped it from the bar." She snickered out, elbowing Jake teasingly beside her.
Tory looked at the three girls in front of her and noticed the girl she hadn't met yet look at her with wide, almost scared eyes. Tory shook her head reassuringly, leaning a little closer to the girl. "Oh, relax. All the adults are getting wasted. No one's gonna notice if we have a little fun." Tory said, thinking Sam was just nervous about getting caught.
"You should put that back. You could get into some big trouble." Sam snapped, taking a step away from Tory and crossing her arms over her chest
Tory looked the girl up and down, her face falling and morphing into something of disgust. "And you are?"
Lilith perked up, hoping to relieve some of the tension she could sense building up. She turned to Sam first, bringing her hand up to the middle of the brunettes back. "Oh! Sam, this is Tory. Tory, Sam." Lilith introduced the two, pointing to each girl when she said their name.
Tory's lips parted and her eyebrows shot up. Slowly, she nodded her head. "Oh, the Sam." Tory said and both Aisha and Lilith looked to Jake with confused looks. They hadn't talked about Sam the whole day, so they both knew Jake must've told her something about Sam while they were at the bar.
Jake looked anywhere but his group, his hand awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck as Tory scoffed lightheartedly at Sam from beside him. "Come on! Like anyone's gonna miss one bottle of vodka. I could swipe half the silverware in this place before anyone could notice." Tory joked, looking around at all of the very drunk adults in the beach club.
Sam's glare toward Tory only deepened, practically shooting lasers at the blonde from how hard she was glaring. "You shouldn't steal anything." She spat.
Jake rolled his eyes and finally turned back to the group. "She didn't say she was going to, Sam." He said tiredly.
His words caught Sam off guard, the girl getting visibly taken aback by him defending Tory over her. She looked back and forth between him and Tory frantically before pointing at Tory's bag. "You two already stole something!" She whisper yelled.
"What are you, a nun?" Tory laughed out. She decided that after what Jake had told her about Sam and how this conversation was going, she didn't want to hang out with Sam anyway. Tory turned her attention to Aisha and Lilith, letting her anger form her previous conversation subside. "Come on, are we gonna drink or not?"
Lilith immediately stepped to stand with Tory and Lilith, which made a proud feeling bloom in Tory's gut.
All three of them then looked to Aisha, who looked back and forth between her karate friends and Sam as if they were an angel and devil sitting on either of her shoulders.
After a few seconds, Aisha let out a breath and relaxed her tensed shoulders. "Okay, one drink." She said, walking toward, Lilith, Tory, and Jake.
The three cheered at Aisha's words, Lilith squealing in excitement as she wrapped an arm around Aisha's shoulders, immediately pulling her toward a spot they could drink without getting caught.
...
"Just one drink."
Lies.
Tory, Lilith, Jake, and Aisha finished the entire bottle of vodka in an hour.
About halfway through the bottle, a tipsy Jake remembered he had some weed in his bag Moon got him for his birthday a few weeks prior.
And then they all shared one joint.
By the time the bottle and joint were finished, the four teens were giggling and struggling to walk in a straight line, making them crash into each other every thirty seconds.
Tory was the one to get the munchies, saying she remembered seeing a big chip bowl and dip when she and Jake met up with Aisha, Lilith, and Sam at the snack table.
The four teens stumbled their way toward the snack table, all still giggling, and all still very under the influence.
It took Lilith about ten seconds to register the stomping silhouette coming right for them was Sam, the LaRusso girl red in anger.
Before Lilith could tell some sort of greeting to her friend, Sam beat her to it.
"Hey!"
Only, Sam's "hey" didn't sound as sweet as Lilith was planning on making hers. Sam sounded angry, like she was trying to not only catch the groups attention, but scare them.
Lilith's eyebrows furrowed watching her friend. It took another five seconds for Tory, Aisha, and Jake to finally look at Sam and when they did, she was now directly in front of them, her arms crossed tightly over her chest and her lips curled in anger.
Her eyes stayed on mainly Tory when she spoke. "My mom's missing her wallet." Sam said and Lilith's face fell, whatever high she was on from the alcohol and weed already starting to come down.
"Oh no." She muttered nervously while Tory drunkenly chuckled beside her.
"Sucks for her."
Sams expression only changed with a raised eyebrow. "You wouldn't know anything about that?" She asked.
And then, everyone started to sober up.
Jake's eyebrows furrowed, his face falling at the accusation Sam would make and Aisha's jaw dropped. "What are you saying?" She asked, but Sam completely ignored the look on her three friend's faces, only focusing on the angry look on Tory's.
"She must be angry because she just got caught." Went through Sam's head.
"Just give me the wallet and I won't tell security." Sam warned Tory.
Before Tory could speak up, Lilith took a protective step in front of the blonde. Quite frankly, Lilith's as a little upset Sam would think any of them would let Tory steal something—let alone their friends moms wallet.
"Sam, she didn't steal your mom's wallet. We were with her the whole time." Lilith said as she shook her head gently to her friend, and looked behind her for a second to gesture to Tory.
Sam was quick with her next choice of words. It was as if her mouth spoke before her brain could even think about it or stop her. "Yeah, well, I don't know if I can trust you anymore, Lilith!" Sam spat.
Lilith took a very visible step back, almost ramming into Tory, but the girl was quick to maneuver and now, step in front of Lilith protectively just like Lilith had done for her not even a minute ago.
Tory wasn't surprised when Jake and Aisha beat her to defending Sam. She was just surprised at how fast they just appeared in front of her and Lilith.
"Sam!" He yelled like a parent scolding their child. Aisha watched the brunette in front of them with a disappointed look. "Are you kidding me?" Aisha asked, shaking her head as her arms crossed over her chest,
Tory moved to stand beside him, the three of them like a wall, blocking Sam from getting to Lilith. "Listen, I didn't rob your mom, bitch!" Tory snapped, her words making Sam blink in surprise.
From behind her bodyguards, Lilith looked through the small space between the heads of Jake and Tory to look at Sam. There wasn't a trace of guilt on her face, only anger. Anger toward Tory and apparently, anger toward Lilith.
Lilith couldn't stop her eyes from watering. It happened in a blink of an eye. She threw her head back and blinked to try and get rid of the tears and even though her plan was successful, her eyes were already starting to turn red.
"Let's get out of here." Lilith announced. She stopped listening to the argument after Sam snapped at her. Her friends words were like a stab in the back and one sickening twist of the knife. After everything Lilith's done for Sam, she was so quick to give up on her because of her new friend
Lilith's words made everyone stop. Tory, who was mid step toward Sam and a hand raised to point viciously at Sam, looked back at Lilith. Her hand dropped at the look on her new friends face. You had to be dense to miss the way Lilith was close to crying.
Tory had just met the girl, but after everything Sam-related that happened today, she was sure she hated this girl.
And even though she wanted to continue yelling at Sam, Tory didn't want Lilith to stay longer than she wanted.
Tory nodded, looking at Aisha and Jake beside her. "Yeah, let's just go." She muttered, deciding to back away from the battle for her new friend.
As they started to walk away, Sam felt her hands twist into fists at her sides. Her nails most likely broke skin from the tightness, but she paid no mind to it and only focused on the anger bubbling in her chest watching this girl taking away all of her friends.
She kept forward, grabbing a handful of Tory's tote bag. Sam tried to pull it out of Tory's grasp, hoping to get the chance to look for her mom's wallet.
But Tory was quick to spin around, causing Sam to lose her grip on the bag.
"Get off of me!" Tory screamed, her hands flying out and connecting with Sam's shoulders.
Tory shoved Sam back. Hard. She stumbled, tripping over her own feet and falling back onto the snack table. Everyone gasped and all eyes turned to the scene. Lilith's hand shot up to her mouth so fast, she practically slapped herself, her heart sinking as she watched Sam, covered in some chocolate pudding, turn red in embarrassment.
"Bitch." Tory muttered under her breath, turning to walk away.
Jake, Aisha, and Lilith all stayed back for a few moments. Replaying the past five minutes back, it was Jake and Aisha to leave next, mad at the fact that Sam would hardly let any of them get even two words in.
Then, it was only Lilith and Sam. Lilith didn't want to be there; she should've left with her friends, but Sam was also her friend even if some harsh words were said. She took slow steps toward Sam, crouching down with the intention of not only helping her wipe the chocolate putting off of her body, but to also help her stand up.
"Are you kidding me?" Lilith asked frantically, her voice still soft as she grabbed a handful of napkin that was on top of the now broken snack table.
Her hand reached out to wipe Sam's face, but seconds before her fingers could touch her face, Sam looked up to Lilith. Her glare was still strong only it wasn't pointed at Tory anymore. Her daggers were pointing right at Lilith.
Lilith froze at Sam's glare, her eyebrows twitching but not fully furrowing.
"Real nice friend you've made." Sam spat.
And just like, all of the sadness, guilt, hell, even pity Lilith was feeling for Sam washed away. It was as if the dam holding back all of her anger finally broke and flooded all of Lilith's other emotions and senses.
She gave a glare back at Sam, one darker and nastier than what the LaRusso had given her. Sam paled at the glare; she had never seen Lilith that mad—not since she's come back from boarding school at least.
Sam watched the way Lilith's jaw clenched. Even with her anger issues, Lilith had more control over her words than Sam did. Lilith wanted to say a lot of things, a list was building in those few seconds that her anger started to grow, but despite the list, Lilith scribbled the words out of her brain and something more controlled, that would cause less damage.
"Yeah? Well, real nice friend you've become." Lilith spat, her words more venomous than anything Sam had said during the entire day.
Sam just stared at her. Now the guilt was starting to grow in the pit of her stomach as she watched tears come back into Lilith's eyes.
She opened her mouth to speak, but she froze before any words could slip out. She didn't even know what to say.
When Lilith stood up and left, following after her karate friends, Sam finally mustered up some strangled form of words, but it was too late, Lilith couldn't hear her anymore.
"I'm sorry, Lil."
