xiii. just like her
Jake, Hawk, and Aisha stood in front of two of the new boys, the same boys that stopped Lilith, Jake, Miguel, and Hawk earlier in the week.
Hawk watched the two with a squint, his hand up to his mouth as he thought about a nickname to give them. "What do you think? Shithead One and Shithead Two?" He asked and while Aisha laughed on one side of him, Jake frowned on the other.
"I was thinking more... Mary-Kate and Asshat." Aisha giggled out, earning a loud laugh from Hawk.
Jake looked to Aisha and Hawk beside him. He couldn't understand how they could sit there and make fun of these two boys after they've been bullied all their lives.
He looked to Hawk specifically. Eli hated being called "Lip" and now Hawk was going exactly what Kyler did to him.
"Guys, they have names, you know." Jake said, making Hawk and Aisha's faces fall slightly. They didn't stop laughing because they really took Jake's words to heart, they stopped laughing because Jake was being a buzz kill in their eyes.
But Jake ignored the glares his two friends were giving him and turned to the new boys. The taller one of the two smiled at Jake, grateful that he was actually being nice to them. "Yeah, I'm Chris–"
"Did I say you could speak?" Hawk yelled, interrupting Chris as Lilith and Miguel walked in, Lilith squinting at Hawks outburst while Miguel held back a chuckle.
"Dude, chill out." Lilith said, her and Miguel joining the small group. She turned her focus to the new kids, giving them a small smile and a shake of the head. "Guys, look, Hawk's just messing with you." Lilith said, hoping to reassure the boys.
Miguel nodded from next to her, casually draping his arm across Lilith's shoulders. "Besides, everyone knows your names are Assface and Douchebag." He added.
Lilith and Jake huffed at Miguel's comment while Hawk and Aisha chuckled. Lilith looked up at Miguel, her eyes big and her brows raised. "Must you add flame to the fire?" She asked quietly and when Miguel looked down at Lilith, he couldn't help but smile.
His cheeks started to turn red and he shrugged, a bashful look on his face. "What? It's all jokes." He hummed, knowing that Lilith was probably annoyed with all the teasing the new kids were getting, but in Miguel's eyes, it was like an initiation.
"Hey." Jake muttered quietly, leaning toward Miguel and Lilith so only they would hear him.
The couple turned their heads to the boy, but Jake wasn't looking at them, his eyes glued on the doors of the dojo. "Who's the old guy?" He whispered.
Lilith and Miguel turned to see who Jake was talking about and Lilith squinted at the older man slipping off his shoes and walking onto the man. She watched him closely as he eyed all of the students.
"I don't know... But I'll find out." Lilith muttered, slipping out of Miguel's grasp to walk toward man. He didn't notice Lilith coming toward him, his eyes scanning the students in disappointment.
"Hello." Lilith called out, making the man finally notice her presence. His eyes widened as soon as his eyes locked in Lilith and he gasped, looking at her as if she were a ghostX
Lilith didn't notice though and instead, gave the man a small smile. "Can I help you, sir?" She asked, but the man only stared at her, his jaw dropped and his face paling just slightly.
After a couple seconds, he blinked. "My goodness. You look just like her..." He breathed out and Lilith's brows screwed together, her head tilting just a smidge.
"Excuse me?" She asked, but before the man could clarify, Johnny walked out of his office, his eyes falling directly on Kreese talking to Lilith.
In seconds, he was walking toward them, his jaw clenched in anger. "Hey!" He screamed, his voice booming across the dojo and making all of the students quiet.
Johnny walked right up to the man, getting right in his face and blocking him from even looking at Lilith anymore. "Don't talk to her." He snapped to the man, making sure he was quiet enough for only him to hear.
"Everyone, fall in!" Johnny yelled, his eyes not leaving the older ones. Lilith watched the two men for a second, not wanting to turn away because of the anger radiating off of her sensei, plus... she wanted to know more about whoever the older man was talking about.
But Jake grabbed her elbow, pulling her to the opposite end of the dojo to get in line.
Lilith took her normal spot in between Hawk and Aisha while Jake stood on the other side of Aisha. Every student started to make rows behind the top five as Johnny and the man walked toward the front.
"Class, we have a visitor. This is Mr. Kreese. He's just an observer. Pretend he's not even here." Johnny introduced the man once everyone was in their positions. His eyes moved around his students before they landed on Miguel. "Mr. Diaz, warm them up."
Miguel walked up to the front of the class, his head held high and his hands behind his back. "Fighting positions!" He yelled and immediately, everyone did as told.
"Front kick! Yuh!"
"Forward strike! Yuh!"
"Side jab! Yuh!"
Instead of doing a forward strike, everyone in the room dabbed, a small little prank they planned against their sensei.
Lilith dropped her arms and laughed with Aisha, who was close to leaning on Lilith for support from how hard she was laughing. Lilith turned to face her sensei, hoping to get a couple more giggles out at his reaction, but her face fell at the glare on his face.
Her laughter faltered and she quickly cleared her throat, catching others attention.
"What the hell was that?" Johnny yelled and Miguel turned to look at the man, shrugging cluelessly. "We were just messing around. We have 11 and a half months until the next All Valley." Miguel tried to reason and Hawk nodded in agreement.
"Besides, we already know how to kick ass." Hawk added and Johnny raised his eyebrows at the boys words. Lilith gulped as he started to slowly walk toward Hawk. "Oh, yeah, really, huh? So, you know everything? There's nothing left to learn?" He asked, his voice low and angry.
Then, Aisha giggled from the other side of Lilith.
Lilith let out a small squeak, hating that the two people she was in between were pissing Johnny off so much. As Johnny started to walk toward Aisha, Lilith shut her eyes. "Oh, God. I'm sandwiched between them." She muttered.
"What's so funny, Miss Robinson?" Johnny asked, completely disregarding Lilith and moving to Aisha.
The girl shook her head, still laughing. "Sorry, Sensei. You wouldn't understand." She said through her laughter and Lilith looked at the girl beside her with wide eyes, shocked that she couldn't recognize the man in front of her was actually angry.
"Try me." Johnny said.
Aisha looked around the room, not noticing Lilith beside her shaking her head frantically to get her to quit it. Aisha leaned toward Johnny, her smile wide.
"It's a snake-do." She whispered.
Johnny's jaw clenched and he uncomfortably looked around the room. He watched a couple students in further rows snicker and he looked back to Aisha. "What's a snake-do?"
Almost every student beside Lilith raised their hands to mimic and snake and hissed at the man. Lilith watched as Johnny's face turned red in anger before her eyes moved to Mr. Kreese, the olde roman having his head in his hands.
"Quiet!" Johnny yelled, shutting the students hissing up and making Lilith jump, turning back to Johnny and away from Kreese.
"5am tomorrow morning at the corner of Fulton and Raymer. You don't show, you're off the team! Class dismissed!" Johnny yelled, marching toward his office with Kreese trialing behind him. Once they were both in the room, Johnny slammed the door behind them and Lilith jumped for a second time at the loud noise.
Lilith didn't know what about him out Johnny on edge so much, but Lilith Beaumont knew right then she was not gonna be a fan of Mr. Kreese.
...
The group of five decided to have a sleepover that night so none of them would oversleep and miss class. Lilith had to tell her mom she was having a sleepover with Aisha and Aisha only, knowing they would say no if she told them three boys were going to be there as well.
They spent the hours after karate in Aisha's basement watching movies and playing games before they all called an early night since they had an early morning.
Aisha's basement was huge; she had three sets of couches in front of the huge flat screen hanging on the wall so when it was time for bed, the five scrambled into the couches.
Aisha insisted she get her own couch since they were at her house and she didn't want any of them kicking her in her sleep. So while Aisha got a couch all to herself, Lilith and Miguel decided to share one while Jake and Hawk shared the other.
When the morning came, they were all tried out of their minds, but made it on time. Johnny barely even greeted his students, yelling at all of them to group up and crowd around a wheelbarrow.
Which is where they were now, Miguel, Lilith, Jake, Aisha, and Hawk crowded around a wheelbarrow. Lilith and Aisha were pouring powdered cement into the barrow while Jake added water from the hose and Miguel and Hawk mixed.
"Don't add too much water!" Johnny yelled as he walked through the groups of kids. Jake turned around to see if Johnny was talking about him and when he saw the Johnny was looking at Bert's group, he relaxed.
When Johnny started to walk toward their group, Jake turned to him, continuing to fill the wheelbarrow with water. "Sensei, why are we mixing cement?" Jake asked.
"No questions!" Johnny yelled back even though they were face to face. Jake jumped at the man's volume, turning back to the wheelbarrow to keep an eye on the water.
When Johnny walked away, Lilith rolled her eyes, ripping open another bag and pouring. "This is stupid. Not all of us are getting the same experience. I mean, all Jake is doing is literally holding a hose." Lilith said, gesturing to the boy.
Jake gave Lilith an offended look. "I didn't ask for the hose!" He said, trying to defend himself.
Hawk looked at Jake from across the wheelbarrow and raised his eyebrows. "Do you want to trade?" He asked, raising the shovel he was stirring with up.
Jake turned to Hawk, eyeing him and Miguel up and down before he shook his head vigorously. "I'm good."
A loud car horn stopped the five's conversation. They all turned their heads and Lilith scoffed at the sight of a cement truck pulling right up to Johnny.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" She whispered under her breath as the driver jumped out of the car, said a few words to Johnny, handing him the keys, and walking away.
"Gather around! Come on!" Johnny yelled, gesturing for all of the kids to come toward him, Kreese, and the cement truck. Lilith side, dropping the bag of cement in her hands and walking to the front of the group.
"You think winning the All Valley gives you the right to goof off? Well, I got news for you. Winning one championship doesn't mean squat! A true champion never stops training! You gotta keep moving forward or else you'll get stuck where you are." Johnny yelled, walking back and forth between the two ends of the lined up students.
When he got it one end, Johnny pointed to the cement trunk behind him. "Just like the cement in this truck." He said and Lilith rolled her eyes. Even though Johnny didn't notice it, Kreese did. The older man raised his eyebrows at the girls attitude, but didn't comment on it.
"If that cement doesn't start turning, the cement inside will harden and get stuck. Is that what you want to happen to you." Johnny asked.
"No, Sensei!"
Johnny nodded in satisfaction. "Good. Then climb up, get inside, and make it spin!" He yelled.
Lilith was sure her jaw dropped as she squinted at the man. "He can't be serious." She muttered to Jake beside her.
"Sensei, we're sorry for messing around." Aisha said and Hawk nodded in agreement. "We learned our lesson." He tried to say, Johnny ignored Aisha and Hawk. He walked to ward the back of the truck and threw the ladder that leads inside down. "Get in!"
From beside Lilith, Miguel started to shake his head. "Sensei, this seems kinda dangerous." He muttered and Lilith immediately nodded in agreement. "Extremely dangerous!" Lilith butted in. Her eyes moved to the truck and she scoffed, shaking her head in disbelief. "The fumes alone–"
"Quiet!" Kreese yelled, interrupting Lilith. The girl jumped back at the man's volume and Miguel side stepped in front of her just enough, to not raise any suspicion between the two older men.
"This man led you to the mountain top and now you question him?" Kreese yelled, pointing at Johnny behind him. "Look at all of you. I can't believe this pathetic pack of pussies competed in the All Valley. And let alone, won! It's a miracle. And who's responsible for the miracle? Johnny Lawrence. The best student in the history of Cobra Kai."
Lilith's eyes widened and Jake let out a small gasp when Mr. Kreese pointed to himself. "My student."
"You were Sensei's sensei?" Hawk asked, a smile growing on his face. When Kreese turned to him and nodded, Hawk's smile only grew. "You better believe it, kid. And I tell you I've never trained a tougher student in my whole life. And if you know what's good for you, you better listen to every goddamn word he says."
It was quiet after that. No one moved. No one spoke. Lilith had to admit, Kreese was right about trusting Johnny in making her stronger, but she truly didn't believe getting inside of a cement truck was the way to do it.
Miguel seemed to think the exact opposite of her when he stepped forward. "I'll do it, Sensei." He said and Lilith's eyes widened from behind him.
"Miguel!" She whisper yelled, reaching out to grab him, but Miguel turned back to face her and shook his head, silently telling her it was okay.
Miguel started to walk towards the truck and right on his trail was Hawk. "Are you–" Lilith muttered under her breath before she groaned when she saw Jake follow after Hawk. "Oh my God." Lilith groaned, dropping her head into her hands.
Johnny looked to Lilith as the three boys climbed into the truck, his eyebrows raised as he walked toward Lilith. "Do we have a problem here?"
Lilith lifted her head and her eyes moved to the truck for a second. She scoffed before she turned back to Johnny. "Yeah, you're setting your students up for cement burns." She snapped in a matter-of-fact tone.
She watched Johnnys expression harden at her words, and she sighed. "I understand I should follow you and I respect you, but I also care about my well-being."
Johnny's eyes flickered to Kreese for a moment and Lilith gulped when she watched Johnnys jaw clench tighter. He turned back to Lilith, his arms crossed over his chest as he glared at her. "England, stop being a smart ass for once and get in the–"
Johnny was cut off by Kreese stepping forward and toward Lilith, his hand raised in Johnnys direction to stop him from talking.
"Let her set her boundaries, Johnny. If Miss..." Kreese defended. His eyebrows raised at the end of his words, waiting for Lilith to introduce herself.
"Beaumont."
Kreese smiled, nodding his head. "If Miss Beaumont doesn't want to go into the truck, she doesn't have to." Kreese said and Lilith's as actually surprised by the man's words.
He looked back at Johnny, the man confused and shocked that Kreese was acting this way toward Lilith.
From inside the truck, Jake had to hold himself back from gagging at the feeling of the wet cement. "It's in my socks!" Jake complained and Hawk grabbed the boys hand, tugging Jake toward him. "It's okay. Come on, J."
Miguel, Hawk, Jake, Assface, and Douchebag all pressed up against the wall of the truck, trying their hardest to get it to start spinning.
"Come on!" Miguel yelled as Jake held back cringing at the feeling the of semi-dry cement getting under his fingernails.
But then, he felt himself need to take a step forward. His eyes could've popped out of his head once he realized they were actually starting to spin the truck.
Jake let out a loud laugh, looking to Hawk next to him, who had as big of a smile as him. "We're moving!" Jake cheered.
"Keep pushing! All together!" He could faintly hear his sensei yell from outside of the truck and as the seconds passed, the truck started to spin faster and faster.
Center started to splash around at the five boys, but none of them cared, too high on the adrenaline and excitement,
...
After a couple other group of kids went, Lilith was the only student to not go inside the cement truck and she was completely okay with that.
Johnny tasked her to use the hose Jake was using earlier to spray her peers, helping them get all of the cement off of them.
"You should all be proud of yourselves! I know I'm proud! Your parents would be proud, too, if you told them what we did here today, which we won't. You pushed forward like champions. never stoping. Never being satisfied. Never giving up." Johnny yelled as every now and then, a student would groan or yell when Lilith sprayed the water right in their face.
When Lilith got to Miguel, she couldn't hold back the smile on her face as his dropped. Before he could get any word in, Lilith raised the water up to Miguel's face, spraying him.
Hawk laughed loudly from beside him and it stopped instantly when Lilith turned and pointed the water at him.
"And if you keep pushing and keep moving forward, you're gonna go to places you never even dreamed of." Johnny yelled as Lilith went back to actually helping get the water off.
"Why is Lilith the one hosing us down?" Jake asked just the water hit him in the chest. Jake groaned, hunching over and groaning at the water pressure.
"Queen of England is like my assistant. She does the phone calls, the website, now this." Johnny listed, nodding his head to Lilith in approval. Lilith smiled happily, moving the water to point at Hawks mohawk "to help get the cement out."
"Lilith!" Hawk yelped, making Lilith smile.
"I should get paid." Lilith said and Johnny glared at her. Realizing she wasn't gonna sway him, Lilith rolled her eyes and turned back to her friends. "Or at least free karate." She grumbled under her breath, but Johnny heard her.
"Watch it!"
