the insides and the outs
to writing a fight scene
01. realistics
okay, yes, this may be the day and age where we write about gods and super humans BUT that doesn't mean you can throw out the realistics in a fight.
one - stamina: unless you have a couple gods of super soldiers going against each other who fight on a regularly basis the fight isn't going to last more than ten minutes tops
two - adrenaline: it's not a good thing. adrenaline isn't a rush of energy that pulses through you until a fight is over, adrenaline actually forces a person to focus so intently that they actually 'lag' in real life
three - writing: writing a fight can be difficult, describing how a couple people fight is awkward when all you can do is imagine the scene in your head. it's okay to write it as simple as person a throwing a punch at person b's head and person a either getting hit or dodging!!
02. powers
one - it's tempting and easy to do, but try not to overpower a character UNLESS you have probable cause for them to be that way!! gods and goddesses have dozens of powers and they're immortal!! Elizabeth (my oc in freefall) has a variety of powers because Hydra has run dozens of tests and experiments on her
two - you're allowed to make up your own powers and the fandom website has a gorgeous list of powers and their descriptions
add flavor to your characters by using their powers!! marvel oc?? make them useless without their power and have them lose it (or unable to use it) and see how it plays out!!
03. weapons
oh by all of the Greek gods PLEASE PLEASE do your research about any kind of weapon you decide to use. just within mythology, fandoms, and other cultures it's so important to give effort to make this accurate!!
add variety too, don't make all of your magical weapons in a Percy Jackson fic turn into pens or bracelets.
don't just have a marvel oc use daggers or just a 'gun' (there are many kinds of guns DO YOUR RESEARCH; I promise I'll touch on guns specifically soon!!)
don't give all of your starwars ocs normal blasters or sabers. give them cross guards or literal swords. give Jedi double bladed lightsabers.
04. injuries
so a lot of people don't do a whole lot of research about an injury that they right and it's almost always obvious-
— when it comes to blood: a person only has 5 to 7 liters of blood in their body, losing anymore than 4 can mean death and losing 5 means you are dead
— noses break if they meet enough blunt force (a girl in band fell into a chair and stood up with a broken nose)
— blood loss can leave you with any of these symptoms:
a couple others things to have!!
comment your any extra questions or requests about anything in this chapter here please!!
besties I have some gun terms/tips coming soon!! feel free to request anything anytime!!
