It's been a few weeks since I had found out that im immune to the zombie virus and that the apocalypse had begun. Jake and I had met a group of a survivors named Alex, Hanna, and Emily. Emily was the leader, Alex was the sniper, and hanna was the scouter. Jake was a shooter and I, on the other hand, was nothing very important. All i had to do was make sure that the base, a mall, was zombie-free and that was at night, Jake made sure that the mall was safe during the day. We've found some survivors but they all leave once they found out that i had gotten bitten.

"Ash, what's your story?" Alex had asked me during dinner.

"What?" I asked.

"Your story, before the whole world came to an end." Alex said.

"I was the number one geek and jake stood up for me, we became friends and hung out sometimes. Then the world came to an end." I said.

"So, are you and Jake 'together'?" Emily asked.

"What? No." I responded.

Jake just looked at us, questioning. Alex was laughing his head off and so was Hanna. Emily kept winking at me. i grabbed my knife and started throwing it in the air and catching it, throwing a knife isn't safe but i didn't care. emily snatched the knife from me and threw it into the wall. "its getting late. everyone but ash get to bed.' emily said, standing up and heading to the security room.

jake, alex and hanna stood up and walked to the home improvement center where they sleep. I grabbed my pistol and a baseball bat, i then started making my rounds around the mall.

It was quiet like usual. the normal zombies trying to get in, the normal everything. well, normal for the apocalypse.i picked up the small radio that was always on the counter of the lost and found that i passed every night. i picked up the earbuds that were next to the small radio. i plugged the earbuds into the radio and turned on the small radio, i put the earbuds in m ears and the best song started up. "Angel With a Shotgun" started and i started to sing along as well as shooting zombies left and right as they got in.

once the night was over, i was exhausted. i hid the radio and earbuds in my jacket pocket and headed back to main section of the base. it was pretty quiet for this morning and then i heard someone scream. it was a bloodcurdling scream. i pulled my pistol out of my holster and ran to where the scream came from. i made it to the home improvement section to see a seen from a horror movie. blood was everywhere amd right in the middle of it all was jake, under a dead zombie, with blood all over his face.

"where were you!" emily yelled in my face.

"i was doing my rounds!" i said back.

"then how the hell did that zombie get in!" emily yelled at me again.

"i dont know." i said, trying not to let tears fall from m eyes. when i get yelled at, i cry.

"you were meant to keep us all safe all night! you left your post, didnt you?" when i didnt answer she yelled "didnt you!?"

"i didnt leave my post! i never leave my post! i didnt let that zombie in!" i yelled, tears falling down my cheeks. "if anything, you left your post in the security room! its your job to protect us, not mine! im immune to the virus, yay, but you cant just accuse me for a zombie getting in passed you!"

"ash, emily had to go to bed. she came in here right as the zombie did." hanna said.

alex got the corpse off of jake. i noticed a bite mark on jake's shoulder that no one had seen yet. i walked passed emily and hanna, grabbed jake's arm and pulled him out of there before anyone could see the bite. i pulled jake into one of the stores in the mall and grabbed a first aid kit. right as i get the bandages ready, jake sees the bite and starts freaking out.

"im going to die!" he says.

"if would have turned by now." i say.

"so then im immune like you?" he asks.

"seems like it." i say, wrapping the bite.

"we should tell the others."

"no. we will not let them know. if they find out, emily'll put you on night watch. its not fun unless you have music to listen to." i said, helping jake up from the counter he was sitting on.

we walked back into the home improvement center and someone new was there...
