Chapter 37
It was already evening when Hyunjin and Jeongin finally had time to talk about everything that had happened during the day. Which had somehow gone differently than they had expected.
"I don't want you to leave," Jeongin whispered desperately, finally daring to reach for Hyunjin's hand.
After Minho and Felix had left in the afternoon, the two doctors were suddenly appeared in their room to talk about the further procedure.
Both were of the opinion that Hyunjin would be able to go home the next day, or at the latest the day after.
But even though Jeongin was doing much better, they'd prefer to keep him there for a few more days to plan his further stay in the psychiatric clinic. They had even talked about possibly transferring him to another clinic. To prevent any retraumatization.
"I know, little one... I'm not comfortable leaving you alone either..." Hyunjin mumbled and put his other arm around the younger one. "And I'm definitely not comfortable leaving Chan alone for that long either."
Jeongin remained silent. He hadn't thought of Chan at all.
The last night, Hyunjin had told him that it had been Chan who had found them both, apparently even before Yuna had gotten to the scene and saved them.
"You like him... don't you?" he finally dared to ask quietly at some point, but didn't dare to look at Hyunjin.
"How did you come up with that?"
Now Jeongin looked at the older and rolled his eyes demonstratively. "You can tell by the way looks you both look at each other. And how your eyes start to shine when you talk about him."
Hyunjin couldn't prevent blushing like crazy. "Oh God, I hope that's not so obvious to everyone. Relationships with patients are strictly prohibited."
"Your internship is soon over anyway, isn't it?"
"Sure. But it could hurt my career if it gets public that I was in any kind of relationship with a patient as an intern."
Only when he saw Jeongin's wide torn open eyes, he noticed what he had just confessed.
"We just kissed," he whispered, but still felt absolutely guilty.
Grinning, Jeongin caressed his back. "I think it's a good thing. You're a good match and I think Chan is better off when you're with him."
"Oh God," Hyunjin whined, but then had to smile. It felt good that someone else was noticing that Chan was doing better when they were together.
For quite a while they talked about this and that. Or rather about Hyunjin's life, because he was the one who talked the most. Jeongin listened carefully and asked questions, but didn't really wanted to talk about himself.
Only when it was already the middle of the night again, the two decided to go to sleep.
"Sleep well, little one. I hope the night will be good too," Hyunjin said yawning and pulled Jeongin into his arms before climbing out of the younger's bed.
His chest still hurt a little, but since he got his infusions regularly again, it wasn't that bad anymore.
"Sleep well Jinnie." Yawning, Jeongin turned to the side and closed his eyes.
Uncertainty paired with cautiously optimistic joy bubbled in him and he tried very hard not to let it be noticed.
It felt like Hyunjin and he really were friends. At least he felt like it had to be like this when you have friends. Spending time together, being able to be close to each other without any ulterior motives and being able to talk about everything.
Sighing softly, he pressed the quokka to himself.
It took quite a while before he could finally fall asleep. Only when he heard Hyunjin's even, deep breaths and he had wrapped his arms tightly around his quokka, he finally fell asleep.
In the middle of the night, Hyunjin scared out of his sheep. Irritated, he sat up and tried to figure out what could possibly have woken him up.
It took him a moment to notice Jeongin's desperate, quiet murmur.
"I- I don't want this... Please stop," the younger whimpered and turned around in bed restlessly. "Stop... Please stop..."
Concerned, Hyunjin climbed out of his bed. His chest hurt, but he tried to push the pain aside and focus on Jeongin.
With a few steps he circled his bed and sat on that of the younger.
"Innie wake up! You just have a nightmare!" He gently placed a hand on his upper arm. "Wake up, little one... wake up."
Again and again, Hyunjin muttered reassuring words and gently stroked Jeongin's arm to finally wake him up.
Only when all this didn't help and finally even tears ran down Jeongin's cheeks, Hyunjin shook him, not so gently.
In fright, Jeongin tore his eyes open. Pure horror was written on his face and he stared at Hyunjin in fear.
"Innie, it's me. It's me! Hyunjin!" He remained sitting next to him, but raised his hands to show him that he wasn't a threat to him.
"Oh God... oh God Jinnie...", whining Jeongin threw himself into Hyunjin's arms.
Soothingly, Hyunjin caressed his back. "Everything is fine, Innie. You're safe. I'm here. It was just a bad dream."
Sobbing, Jeongin buried his fingers in Hyunjin's shirt and clung to him. It hadn't been just a dream, but his memories that haunted him, even in his dreams. Yet he wasn't ready to talk about it. Not even to Hyunjin.
"C-Can you... can you please stay w-with me?"
This time, Hyunjin didn't hesitate. It broke his heart to see Jeongin like that and for nothing in the world he would leave him alone now. Apart from that, he had already received his infusion for the night and probably no one would come into their room until the morning.
"Of course. Scoot over."
Instantly Jeongin slipped to the side and Hyunjin lay down with him. Unsure whether he should take the younger one in his arms, or whether he wouldn't want that at all.
"Would you like...?" Questioningly, Hyunjin finally stretched out his arm.
Jeongin immediately snuggled into the older's arms. He was still shaking all over his body and there was still a sob from time to time, but it slowly became less.
"Sleep well, Innie. I'm here and take care of you...", Hyunjin muttered softly, even when he once again had the feeling of crossing every border.
