Chapter 11
They sat by the pond for quite a while until Hyunjin realized that he was actually here to work. Even though he enjoyed spending time with the older, he still didn't want to leave Yuna hanging.
So he finally got up and held out his hand to help Chan up.
But somehow he had misjudged his power, or Chan had simply not held against him enough, because they stumbled against each other and fell to the ground.
But although Hyunjin's back and elbows hurt, he couldn't help but stare at Chan.
On the one hand because the older one lay directly on him and on the other hand because Chan giggled gently and Hyunjin was sure he had never heard anything more beautiful.
Only a few centimeters were missing and their lips would lie on top of each other and Hyunjin's gaze rushed to the older's lips before he barely noticeably shook his head.
"Sorry," Chan chuckled and picked himself up. This time he held his hand to the younger one to help him up.
Hyunjin couldn't help but find the elder absolutely adorable and that was the moment when he realized that he had a crush on Chan.
Nevertheless, he grabbed the elder's hand and let himself be pulled up by him.
"Everything okay?" Chan asked quietly.
Hyunjin nodded, but at the same time grabbed his left elbow, which somehow hurt quite a bit.
Pain shot through his body as his fingers touched his elbow and when he felt something wet and he immediately knew he was bleeding.
"Fuck," he murmured and walked back towards the building, hoping that Chan would just follow him.
"What? What's wrong?" Chan asked worriedly and pulled the younger's hand away from his elbow - and froze.
Hyunjin saw the panic in Chan's eyes and for a moment he felt like he was panicking himself, but he took a deep breath and reached for the elder's arm and held him tight.
"It's all good Chan, I just hurt my elbow."
Chan nodded, then shook his head and stared at Hyunjin's bloody hand, which the younger tried to keep away from him. His breath faltered, he felt incredibly dizzy and his hands were shaking.
"Breathe baby... breathe for me. Deep breath in through the nose and slowly out through the mouth. Just follow me," Hyunjin said calmly.
He was so used to calling Felix babe or baby that he just talked at that moment without even thinking about it.
Chan still looked at him still in panic, but he followed Hyunjin's instructions.
They stood there for a moment and Hyunjin breathed with Chan until the older one suddenly collapsed.
Hyunjin reacted at lightning speed, stretched out his arms towards him and caught him.
"Come baby, we'll take you to your room, you can lie down there," he murmured and supported Chan on the way inside.
He repeated soothing phrases all the way, without really knowing whether his words even helped Chan at all.
But he just couldn't say nothing either.
He had the feeling that blood was running down his arm, but he didn't dare to look. Because under no circumstances did he want to upset the older one even more.
Just when he felt like he was starting to panic, Yuna met them in the hallway.
Without asking what had happened, she grabbed Chan's other arm and together they brought him back to his room.
"Go get your arm bandaged in the infirmary! I'll take care of him," she said calmly and objectively.
And although Hyunjin couldn't hear any reproach in her voice, he just felt terrible. Because he had the feeling that the whole situation was his fault and that it would be his fault if Chan's mental state would get worse again.
He had to take a deep breath in order not to burst into tears on the way to the infirmary.
If he could have done so, he would have preferred to hid in Felix's arms and let his tears run wild in order to deal with his despair and his feelings of guilt.
But his shift would only be over in five hours and he would have to pull himself together for so long.
The nurse carefully cleaned his wound and bandaged his arm after disinfecting it. "You'll have to go to the company doctor tomorrow, because that was an accident at work," she told him and smiled at him sympathetically, but Hyunjin didn't even really notice it.
"I will," he murmured, thanked her and then made his way back to the base with a heavy heart.
Shortly afterwards, Yuna came to the base with two cups of coffee in her hands and told Hyunjin to follow her.
She took him to one of the now empty therapy rooms.
"Is he okay?" Hyunjin asked, even before Yuna could even say anything.
Yuna nodded thoughtfully. "I think so. I gave him something to calm him down and he will probably sleep a little now," she said quietly and an apologetic expression spread on her face. "I'm sorry that you were confronted with such a situation again. I think it's better if you're no longer alone with patients."
Hyunjin nodded. Even though he would like to spend time with Chan alone, he understood her motivations.
He was just an intern and actually she shouldn't have left him alone with the patients anyway.
And he wasn't quite sure whether it was a good idea to spend time with Chan alone.
They stayed in the therapy room for a while and after Hyunjin had told what had happened, Yuna told him that his idea with the baking workshop had been well received and that one of the therapists had agreed to host it together with him.
And although Hyunjin was happy about it, the feelings of guilt and somehow also some despair weighed more heavily.
Because although he knew that he had just studied psychology in the second semester, he had thought he could deal with challenging situations better.
Apart from that, he really wanted to help Chan and admitting to himself that he probably wouldn't be able to do so, shook his self-confidence quite a bit.
Yuna tried to cheer him up a bit, but Hyunjin just felt terrible and wanted to go home.
She finally allowed him a cigarette break and left him alone for some time.
Hyunjin sat on one of the benches not far from the entrance and was smoking the second cigarette when he remembered that he wanted to ask about Berry.
Sighing, he snapped out his cigarette and put it in the trash can before he went back into the building.
After washing his hands and disinfecting them, he made his way to the base, but Yuna wasn't there.
And then suddenly there was so much going on that he didn't really have time to ask her about anything.
When Hyunjin was finally on his way home in his car at half past ten in the evening, he remembered again that he wanted to bring Chan fresh flowers. And that he had wanted to ask Yuna about Berry.
He hit his forehead with his flat hand and was insanely annoyed with himself.
And when he arrived home, Felix and Minho sat on the sofa together with the kittens and watched some movie together.
Hyunjin suppressed a sigh, took a shower and then crawled into his bed. He felt absolutely terrible and had actually hoped to be able to come home and cuddle with Felix to feel better.
But so the self-doubt simply drilled deeper into his thoughts and his heart.
