chapter six

"mommy, do you really have to go to work today?" hongjoong pouted while holding his mother's arm.

"honey, you know how hard it is for me to leave, but i have to. i promise i'll be back soon. until then, you can text me, ok? i love you." hongjoong's mom leaned down and gave hongjoong a kiss on the forehead.

hongjoong kissed her on the cheek and sighed. "ok mommy, i love you too! i'll see you soon!" hongjoong waved goodbye to his mother and she began heading out of the house, giving her other son a hug before leaving for work.

"ok joongie, i need to tell you something." jongho sighed as he motioned for hongjoong to sit on the couch. he hadn't told hongjoong that seonghwa was watching him for the night. he was honestly quite afraid, he knew hongjoong wanted to spend time with him, but jongho had to go on his date.

"what is it? are you going to tell me about all the fun we're going to have tonight!?" hongjoong jumped up and down in his seat and jongho tried to calm him down.

"not quite. i actually can't watch you tonight." jongho sighed and hongjoong's eyes widened, getting nervous at the thought of being left home alone, "wait! you won't be alone, don't worry. mom and i talked about it already, and my friend is going to watch you tonight." jongho reassured his younger brother who began to smile.

"which one of your friends, jongie? please tell me it's yunho, he's so nice!" hongjoong smiled, remembering how sweet yunho was to him last time jongho's friends were over.

"um, not exactly..." jongho began trailing off, "it's... seonghwa."

hongjoong's facial expression was indifferent. he didn't seem upset, but not happy either. "i don't really know seonghwa too well... i know he's been over the house before, but he's never talked to me."

jongho let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding in. he knew seonghwa wasn't going to be nice to hongjoong, but at least hongjoong didn't know that just yet. "ok, well you'll get to know him very soon, babe. he'll be here in about twenty minutes." jongho said as he got up, walking into his room to finish getting ready for his date.

while he waited for his babysitter to show up, hongjoong turned on his tv. spongebob was playing, so he decided to keep it on.

after an episode filled with laughs and smiles had ended, hongjoong heard a ring on the doorbell. "it must be seonghwa!" hongjoong jumped up in realization, running to the door.

before hongjoong could open the door, jongho sprinted out of his room and in front of the smaller boy. "he's my friend, joong. let me open the door for him and introduce you guys." hongjoong smiled slightly and stood back as jongho opened the door for seonghwa.

"hey ho!" seonghwa greeting jongho as he walked into the house, giving the boy a side hug.

"hey hwa. let me introduce you to hongjoong." jongho said as he closed the front door of the house and faced his younger brother, "hongjoong, this is seonghwa. seonghwa, this is hongjoong."

as seonghwa was about to give the boy a small wave, hongjoong attacked him with a hug. "hi seonghwa! my name is hongjoong, but i like to go by joongie." hongjoong giggled and seonghwa slightly pushed the smaller boy off.

"um, hi." seonghwa replied dryly, making hongjoong frown.

"ok, well i have to head out. hongjoong, text me if you need. i shouldn't be any later than midnight." jongho said as he tapped his brother's shoulder.

"better not be any later than that. also, let me know how it goes." seonghwa gave jongho knowing eyes and jongho chuckled back, waving goodbye to his friend and brother as he closed and locked the door behind him.

"so, what do you wa--"

"i'm going to sit my ass on that couch and go on my phone all night. don't bother me." seonghwa coldly stated, walking past hongjoong and made his way to the couch in the living room.

"well that was mean!" hongjoong said as he crossed his arms.

"was never meant to be sweet, little kim." seonghwa said as he took off his leather jacket, "you're really watching spongebob?"

"yes, spongebob is really funny!"

"for six year olds. are you six? cause last time i checked, you're sixTEEN." seonghwa emphasized the teen at the end of his sentence, making hongjoong frown again. before seonghwa could notice his frown, hongjoong put a smile on his face and sat next to the older.

"you're no fun! we can put something else on, like maybe the little mermaid or--"

"bro, i'm not watching some princess movie with you. no way in hell." seonghwa shook his head as he scooted further away from the younger.

"jongie watches them with me sometimes." hongjoong crossed his arms.

"well jongie's a pussy." seonghwa mimicked the younger's nickname and hongjoong gasped.

"can you please stop cursing in every sentence. it's inappropriate!" hongjoong asked seonghwa, who began laughing at the boy.

"i'm seventeen years old. if i want to curse, i'll fucking curse." seonghwa glared at hongjoong who began covering his ears, "cover your ears all you want, won't change how i'm speaking to you."

"instead of a princess movie, wanna watch how to train your dragon?" hongjoong asked.

"i've never even heard of that movie." seonghwa rolled his eyes while he took out his phone.

"well, you remind me of one of the characters. he's a dragon." hongjoong said, admiring the older's unique features.

"so you're telling me i look like a cartoon dragon?" seonghwa questioned.

"yeah, a little." hongjoong shrugged.

"whatever kid, you're weird." seonghwa blew him off and hongjoong began thinking of something seonghwa might want to do with him.

"wanna play tea party?" hongjoong asked seonghwa with hopeful eyes.

"hongjoong, didn't i ju--"

"call me joongie!" hongjoong interjected.

"no, that's a childish nickname. so, hongjoong, as i was saying, didn't i just say i didn't want to watch a princess movie with you? why would you then ask me to play 'tea party' with you?" seonghwa put quotes around the tea party, chuckling as the words came out of his mouth.

"because jongho usually plays with me when mommy goes to work." hongjoong mumbled quietly.

"well, good thing i'm not jongho." seonghwa opened his phone and went on the instagram app.

hongjoong realized there was no way he could change seonghwa's mind, so he decided to watch some tv by himself. after about an hour of spongebob, he began to grow hungry.

"seonghwa, can you please get me some ice cream?" hongjoong asked, innocently.

"don't you have two arms and legs? get your lazy ass up and do it yourself." seonghwa instructed, waving his hand towards the kitchen.

"but, but--"

"but what? do you not know how to scoop ice cream from the carton? it's really not that hard." seonghwa laughed at the boy, not understanding how one couldn't get ice cream themselves.

"fine! i'll go myself." hongjoong got off the couch and walked to the kitchen.

hongjoong was embarrassed with himself. seonghwa was sort of right. he had never tried getting ice cream himself, he always had someone else do it for him. he knew where the ice cream was, so he walked over and took it out of the freezer.

he then went to the drawer that had utensils and took out a spoon and a bowl from the cabinet. he opened the ice cream and tried to scoop, but had no success.

hongjoong grew nervous. he didn't want to take too long in the kitchen, afraid seonghwa would laugh at him for not knowing how to scoop ice cream by himself. hongjoong kept trying, struggling to get the spoon in the frozen solid dessert.

"hmph!" hongjoong let out a loud grunt as he tried to dig. he then jumped, realizing seonghwa might've heard it.

his fear became true when he saw seonghwa enter the kitchen, laughing at the sight in front of him. "so you really can't scoop ice cream? wow, that's honestly sad."

"i can't help it! jongie or mommy always do it for me!" hongjoong gave up, throwing his arms in the air. seonghwa walked over and tried to help, but realized the ice cream was too frozen to come out.

"well obviously you couldn't get it out. it's frozen solid! you're such a ditz." seonghwa said as he walked over to the microwave, putting the ice cream inside for twenty seconds.

"ice cream is supposed to be raw, why are you cooking it!?" hongjoong exclaimed.

"oh my god, you really don't do anything on your own, do you? i'm just melting it a bit, not cooking it." seonghwa shook his head, "so now you'll be able to scoop it out easily."

when the microwave beeped, seonghwa took the carton out and scooped some strawberry ice cream into a bowl for the younger, who jumped up and down in excitement. "here, take it. i'm never doing that for you again."

"thank you seongie!" hongjoong said as he began stuffing his face with the ice cream, getting it all over his mouth.

"never call me that. and wipe your mouth, that's disgusting." seonghwa gagged slightly as he made his way into the living room, leaving hongjoong alone with his ice cream.

i hate mean seonghwa so much, he's an angel in real life 🤧 but i always do that with my ice cream, call me a criminal!
