chapter nineteen

hongjoong woke up very early on saturday morning. he wasn't planning on waking up as early as he did, but he was too excited to stay asleep. he knew seonghwa was watching him this afternoon, and he wanted to look extra special for the older.

he checked his phone and read the time.

8:52.

"ok, i still have two hours before seongie comes over. i better get ready now!" hongjoong spoke to himself, jumping out of bed and running towards the bathroom.

once he entered, hongjoong checked his reflection the mirror. his hair was a mess, strands sticking to his face and some standing straight up in the air. he made a disgusted face, quickly picking up the hair brush to fix the awful situation on his head.

after taking the knots out of his hair, hongjoong brushed his teeth throughly. after brushing, he smiled widely in the mirror.

"all clean!" he cheered to himself.

the boy then turned around and began removing his pajamas. once undressed, hongjoong hopped into the shower. he scrubbed his body long and hard, not wanting to smell in seonghwa's presence. he rubbed the shampoo in his hair for what felt like hours, making sure it would come out clean and fluffy.

after about twenty minutes washing himself, hongjoong stepped out of the shower and grabbed his fuzzy white towel. he took some time to dry himself off and walked out of the bathroom, moving towards his room in a towel to get dressed.

when he opened his closet, hongjoong took a deep breath. he wanted to look cute, but not too cute. he didn't want to seem like he was trying, but he also wanted to make a good impression on the older.

after much internal debate, hongjoong grabbed a pink tie dyed shirt that he made a while back and a pair of jeans with patches along the sides. he got dress and looked in the mirror, smiling at himself. he felt absolutely adorable in his choice of clothing.

after getting dressed, hongjoong made his way back to the bathroom to dry his hair. he didn't want it to air dry because he was afraid it would dry awkwardly, so he made sure it looked straight on his head. after feeling content about his hair, he ran down the stairs and towards the kitchen.

it was already a quarter to ten once hongjoong finished getting ready. he was happy to see his brother in the kitchen, brewing himself a fresh pot of coffee and making eggs.

"hey joongie, good morning." jongho smiled at his brother while scrambling the eggs in the pan.

"hi jongie! are you making me eggs too?" hongjoong asked, hugging his brother's arm and rubbing his head into it.

"of course i am. i wouldn't forget about you, babe." jongho poked the younger's nose, chuckling at the boy's cute action.

hongjoong scrunched his nose in response. "thank you hyung!"

"my pleasure. but may i ask why you're dressed so fancy on this bright and early saturday morning?" jongho gave hongjoong a knowing look and hongjoong began to blush.

"uh, n-no reason..." he stuttered out.

"hmm, i'm not sure i believe that, but i guess i'll let it slide." jongho shrugged as he put eggs on two plates.

hongjoong ran towards the refrigerator to grab strawberries and whipped cream for himself and sat down as jongho placed the plate in front of him. jongho also poured the younger a glass of milk and himself the coffee he brewed, placing the cups at their respective plates.

"dig in!" jongho exclaimed and hongjoong began stuffing his face, making his brother laugh at his adorable squirrel-like cheeks.

after the boys finished their breakfast, jongho went back to his room to get dressed for his date. hongjoong decided he wanted to go the extra mile, so he tiptoed to his mother's room and into her bathroom. in there, he saw she had left some makeup behind.

"but, i don't even know how to put makeup on!" hongjoong cried out, but started inspecting the tools nonetheless.

he saw what he thought was foundation, blush, and highlighter. he had no idea how to apply any of the products, but he tried his best to figure it out. he put some foundation on his fingers, smearing it under his eyes and around some dark spots on his face. after finishing, he smiled widely, proud of how good it came out.

hongjoong then grabbed a brush and began applying the slightest bit of blush to his already rosy cheeks. he didn't want to go overboard, but he wanted to apply enough where he felt cute. hongjoong then put some highlighter on a brush and applied them to his cheekbones, the same place he saw his mother apply the product in the past.

"wait, something's missing..." hongjoong said as he looked in the mirror, scrunching his nose slightly.

when searching his mothers drawers, he realized what he needed. hongjoong picked up a lip tinter and began applying it to his lips. it was perfect, a beautiful yet subtle shade of pink. he giggled after applying the products, excited for seonghwa to see how adorable he looked.

after finishing his makeup, hongjoong ran downstairs and sat on the couch. he didn't have much time before seonghwa arrived, so he tried to calm his nerves by turning on the tv.

"ok hongjoong, seonghwa should be here any minute. make sure you're goo--" jongho stopped mid sentence after he got a good look at his brother. "joongie, are you wearing makeup?" he furrowed his eyebrows at the younger.

hongjoong eyes widened. "um, y-yeah... does it look bad? are you mad at me?" he asked, worried.

"no, it doesn't look bad, and i'm not mad at you... i've just never seen you wear makeup other than occasionally when you're playing dress up with your friends." jongho answered.

"do you think seonghwa will like it?" hongjoong looked hopefully into his brother's eyes.

when hongjoong saw jongho's face light up mischievously, he retracted his statement. "wait, n-not like that! i didn't mean, i didn't mean it... i didn't mean it like that!" he quickly stood up and waved his hands in his brothers face.

"if you say so, joongie. i don't know, maybe he'll like it. you should ask him when he gets here." jongho chuckled and hongjoong crossed his arms.

"you're a meanie." the younger pouted.

"i'm not being mean at all, what are you talking about?" jongho laughed.

"stop laughing!" hongjoong yelled, hitting his brother lightly in the arm.

"joongie, i think you look adorable with the makeup. it's actually a really good look on you." jongho complement and hongjoong turned around, still pouting.

"thanks." he mumbled, making jongho laugh some more.

the bell then rang, making hongjoong's heart drop into his stomach. jongho turned around and walked towards the door, letting his friend inside.

"hwa! just on time." jongho smiled and seonghwa rolled his eyes.

"yep, perfect right?" he answered, sarcastically.

"perfect for me, at least." jongho shrugged as seonghwa gave him the finger, hongjoong sitting quietly on the living room couch.

"ok, i'll be back at around four. see you guys later!" jongho called out and waved before exiting the house, leaving hongjoong a nervous mess.

well this should be interesting, hongjoong thought to himself.
