chapter fifty seven
jongho ran to the door as the bell went off through the house. he put a smile on his face, wanting to make the night special for him and his girlfriend, regardless if they haven't had the best few days together.
as he opened the front door, jongho was greeted with an obviously annoyed ryujin. she stood slouched over with her arms crossed, and if looks could kill, jongho would certainly be dead right now.
"ryu, are you ok?" jongho asked as he moved to the side, inviting the girl inside. she stomped her way in and closed the door loudly behind her, startling her boyfriend as she did so.
"am i ok? does it look like i'm ok? no, i'm obviously not ok!" she screamed a bit too loud, catching jongho's mother's attention from the kitchen. rather than interrupting, she eavesdropped on the conversation, wanting to know why ryujin sounded so angry without the two of them knowing that she was listening.
"so what happened? did i do something wrong?" jongho asked, trying not to get riled up since the night had barely started yet.
"it's our two month anniversary, and this is what we're doing for it? dinner at your house?" she spoke with her arms folded and eyebrows furrowed.
jongho was confused by what ryujin meant by her statement. if he was being honest, jongho thought that having dinner with his family would be a cute idea for their minuscule milestone.
"what do you mean? is there something wrong with that?" jongho asked.
"obviously! we've been together for two months, and nothing? no fancy dinner, no movie date, no shopping spree?" ryujin sassily screamed out.
jongho looked at ryujin wide eyed after hearing her reasoning for being so angry. he couldn't believe what the girl in front of him was saying.
jongho was angry, angrier than he's ever been with his girlfriend.
"ryujin, are you kidding me? do you hear what you sound like?" he whisper screamed to the girl.
"what do i sound like, jongho? a girlfriend who thinks she deserves more? because i certainly think this isn't enough!" ryujin threw her arms in the air as she spoke.
"i'm sorry i couldn't take you out. i don't have much money left, i spent it all on you and babysitters for my brother because you wanted to go out! i thought maybe you'd like a home cooked meal, one that i helped make, as a gift. i even bought you flowers and that very expensive dress you wanted, but i guess it's not enough for you." jongho lifted his arms in defeat, not knowing what else he could have done to make the night more special for his spoiled girlfriend.
"no, it's not enough!" she bluntly stated.
"you know, you're honestly ridiculous. i really thought maybe you'd be more understanding today because it's our anniversary, but nothing has changed." jongho rolled his eyes as he made his way into the living room without waiting for ryujin to follow behind. he plopped himself on the couch and put his legs up so his girlfriend couldn't sit next to him.
the girl quickly followed behind jongho, lowering her voice a bit, "are we at least going to have alone time during dinner?" ryujin asked as she leaned down over his body.
"no, my mom and brother are going to eat with us." jongho simply stated, not meeting ryujin's eyes as he spoke.
"great! so now on top of us having dinner at your house for our anniversary, we're eating with your entire family!" ryujin chuckled a bit as she spoke to emphasize how annoyed she was.
"ryujin, we've been together for two months! you're acting like this is our two year anniversary! and sue my mother for wanting to have dinner with you." jongho yelled out, not caring if his mother heard what was going on in the room.
thankfully, due to his mother's curiosity... she had heard everything that ryujin said anyway.
"i mean, your mother is whatever... but why does your weird brother have to eat with us?" ryujin whispered out extremely quietly, so quietly that jongho almost couldn't hear what she had said.
after jongho realized what the girl had said, his blood began boiling. his face turned a dark shade of red, hands turning into fists as he stood up, staring straight into ryujin's eyes.
"my brother isn't fucking weird. stop saying he's fucking weird." jongho spat, "i love my brother with all my heart, and if you can't fucking handle it, maybe we shouldn't be together." jongho finished, not caring about ryujin's opinion anymore. if ryujin decided to pick up her stuff and leave at that exact moment, jongho would've been happier than ever.
"come on baby, don't say that. you love me, remember?" ryujin tried to calm down the boy with her charm, playing with the buttons on his shirt as she fluttered her eyelids at him.
jongho hit the girl's hand away lightly, "don't try that shit with me. don't play the victim now."
"what? i just wanted some alone time with my boyfriend on our special day. is there something wrong with that?" ryujin continued fluttering her eyes, smiling cutely as she looked up into jongho's eyes.
before jongho could continue speaking, he felt a tap on his shoulder. when he turned around, he was greeted by a smiling small boy holding a toothless plush. jongho matched hongjoong's smile, glad to see someone else other than ryujin at that moment.
"hi jongie! hi jinnie!" hongjoong waved frantically, even giving ryujin a cute nickname as he greeted her.
ryujin rolled her eyes, making hongjoong frown a bit. she didn't even bother to say hi to the boy, instead she turned around and sat down on the living room couch with her arms crossed.
"is something wrong with jinnie?" hongjoong asked his brother, feeling genuinely concerned for the girl even though she hated him for no reason.
"no, she's just... she's, she had a fight with her mommy. everything is ok though, don't be worried, beautiful." jongho softened up when he spoke to his brother, leaning down and giving him a quick peck on the forehead as he told the white lie. he heard ryujin huff out but ultimately decided to ignore it, wanting to make sure hongjoong didn't get upset because of her.
hongjoong was his main priority, not ryujin.
"oh ok! i'm sorry about your fight jinnie. do you wanna talk about it? sometimes i fight with my mommy too. our fights are usually over me being a little bratty, and i always end up crying because i feel so bad. it's ok to cry." hongjoong ran next to the girl, putting his hand on her shoulder in attempt to calm her down, "do you wanna cuddle my plushie? his name is mars. i love him!"
ryujin violently pushed hongjoong's hand off her shoulder, "no, i don't want to cuddle your plu--"
"she'd love to, joongie." jongho spoke for ryujin, giving her a knowing look as he did so. ryujin rolled her eyes and grabbed the toy roughly out of hongjoong's hands, quickly hugging it tight before letting go of it just as fast.
"thank you." she mumbled, not meeting hongjoong's eyes as she spoke to him.
"everyone, dinner's ready!" ms. kim called from the kitchen, not bothering to walk all the way to the living room when she honestly didn't want to see ryujin at all.
"yay, chicken cutlets!" hongjoong jumped off the couch and sprinted with his toy into the kitchen for dinner.
"this isn't over, by the way." jongho firmly stated, referring to his previous comment about the two of them breaking up.
"what isn't over?" ryujin answered, pretending to sound innocent even though she knew exactly what jongho was talking about.
"you're actually ridiculous." jongho chuckled and made his way into the kitchen by himself. ryujin rolled her eyes once again, following her boyfriend into the family's kitchen.
"jongho, i put food out for you guys to eat. ryujin, you can take the seat right next to jongho." jongho's mother pointed to a seat and ryujin sat down, crossing her arms when she realized she had to sit across from hongjoong.
"happy two months." she whispered to herself with an attitude, picking up her fork as she began eating the food sitting in front of her.
before jongho could sit down, his mother called him over to help her. he stood up and made his way to his mom, confused as to what she could need help with when everything was already out on the table.
"what do you need help with?" jongho asked, trying to sound as calm as possible.
"nothing, i just wanted to tell you that i heard everything going on in the living room... so i made sure to spit in her food." jongho's mother whispered in jongho's ear, winking as she made her way to her seat.
jongho laughed at what she said, taking his seat after his mother and immediately eating without ever making eye contact with his girlfriend.
honestly, i don't know if she's lying about that or not...
i love ryujin with all my heart... that girl is my whole ass bias wrecker like PLEASE MARRY ME BABY GIRL I LOVE YOU, but I HATE HER IN THIS STORY!!!
