chapter eighty five

"god damn it... i'm so nervous for today." seonghwa shakily said to his mother who was busy cooking dinner for her and her husband.

"why are you so nervous? it's not like you haven't taken hongjoong out on dates before." seonghwa's mother said back to the boy, trying to ease his nerves as much as she possibly could with some facts.

"yeah i know that, but this is our first date as boyfriends. i mean, we hung out a few times since then or whatever, but i'm taking him on a real date tonight. what if he hates it? what if the date isn't good enough?" seonghwa said as he took a seat at the kitchen table, pulling at his hair with his hands in frustration.

seonghwa's mother turned off the stove and walked up to her nervous son. she opened her arms and let the boy hug her tightly, seonghwa embracing his mother as he nervously shook underneath her touch.

"calm down hun. it'll be perfect, i know of it! i mean, come on... i helped you come up with the date idea. of course it's going to be fun." mrs. park laughed, trying to bring some comedic relief to the situation. it thankfully helped seonghwa out a bit, the boy laughing at the joke his mother told.

"you got a point. i think he'll love it too, but i'm just overanalyzing everything right now. do you think i look good enough?" seonghwa suddenly asked, standing up to show his mother the outfit he picked out for his date.

"hmm..." she trailed off, startling seonghwa a bit, "you're always so boring! all black again? no, come with me. we're changing your shirt." she grabbed seonghwa by the hand and dragged her son to his bedroom.

"mom, all i own is black! it's practically the only color i ever wear." seonghwa said as he took a seat on his bed, his mother looking through his closet for him.

"i know for a fact that isn't true because i recently bought you a cute dress top, you just never wear anything other than the same old boring black clothing." she insulted seonghwa slightly as she continued looking through his closet with a specific shirt in mind.

eventually, sunhee found the exact shirt she had in mind hidden in the back of seonghwa's closet. she smiled widely as she turned around and showed seonghwa the top.

"you're wearing this. no if's, then's, or but's." she handed the boy the shirt and walked towards the door, "and you better show me what it looks like before you leave." mrs. park said before walking out of the room and giving her son space to get changed.

"huh, this actually isn't too bad." seonghwa said as he looked at the shirt his mother handed him.

seonghwa began unbuttoning his boring black dress top and threw on the button down his mother handed him. the shirt had an intricate pattern, involving some white, grays, and black on the top. seonghwa buttoned up the shirt and decided on leaving the top button open to show more of his chest. he also tucked the shirt into his pants for a cleaner look. when he looked at himself in the mirror, seonghwa fell in love with the look.

"wow, mom's really do know best." seonghwa chuckled before walking out of the room to show his mother his incredible look.

when seonghwa entered the room, his mother gasped out loud. seonghwa did a little turn for her, showing her all the sides of his outfit.

"see, you look absolutely stunning! still fancy, but not boring!" she cheered out loud, clapping her hands as she ran over to give her son a big kiss on the cheek.

"thanks mom, you're the best." seonghwa thanked his mother honestly, smiling as she backed away from his face.

"ok, enough of me! you have a boy waiting for you. go get him!" seonghwa's mother exclaimed, hitting her son lightly on the arm to get him out of the house.

"oh god, ok! i'll see you later, i love you." seonghwa said as he walked down the stairs of
his house.

"i love you too. have fun, but not too much fun!" sunhee joked one more time before seonghwa left. seonghwa laughed out loud before grabbing his wallet and keys to head to hongjoong's house.

——

"babe, are you ready for your date with your first official boyfriend?" jongho said as he entered hongjoong's bedroom with a light knock.

"yes! i'm nervous, but more excited than anything. do you see? mommy did my hair and makeup before she left for work! isn't it pretty?" hongjoong exclaimed as he ran up to his brother and got right into his face to show jongho his mother's beautiful work.

"you know that i think you're pretty with or without makeup or your hair done, but yes it does look very pretty." jongho complimented his brother as he gave him a warm smile.

"thank you!" hongjoong said, "seongie should be here any minute, i should go downstairs now!" hongjoong ran past his brother and straight down the stairs. jongho chuckled at his brother's behavior and followed behind him, shutting hongjoong's bedroom light before leaving the room.

"i'll be with yeosang tonight at the house so if you need anything, call one of us." jongho said as he reached the bottom of the stars, watching as hongjoong quickly put on his shoes.

"ok!" hongjoong cheered as the doorbell rang. he quickly shot up from his spot on the floor and ran to the door, not bothering to check who it was before swinging it open.

"hi baby." seonghwa greeted hongjoong as he held out flowers, "i bought these roses for you." seonghwa said with a smile. hongjoong blushed as he grabbed the flowers and took a whiff of their beautiful scent.

"they smell so pretty! thank you honey bun." hongjoong thanked the boy with a cute pet name as he turned around and handed jongho the flowers to put in a vase. jongho immediately took the flowers and walked towards the kitchen to place them in water for his brother.

"you ready to go?" seonghwa asked as he held out his hand out for hongjoong to grab onto.

"yes, let's go!" hongjoong cheered as he ran out of the house, seonghwa's hand in his own. he didn't even bother to say goodbye to jongho, his excitement level too high to think of anyone besides his boyfriend.

the boys entered the car and seonghwa quickly started it up before calmly driving away. he looked over to hongjoong and smiled at how adorable his boyfriend looked.

"i love your outfit, it suits you so well." seonghwa complimented the boy's pink button down and tight black slacks that were hemmed a little too short for his already tiny legs. he also wore a heavy winter coat to keep him from freezing, since seonghwa said the date would be outdoors.

"i love yours too. i can't believe you're wearing a shirt that isn't black!" hongjoong giggled out and seonghwa lightly hit him on the arm for the small jab hongjoong took at him.

"yeah yeah yeah. my mom made me change because she said she was tired of me always wearing all black outfits, but i honestly really love this top so it's ok." seonghwa said and hongjoong nodded his head in agreement.

"i love it too. you look so handsome in it." hongjoong said with a smile. seonghwa reached his hand out and grabbed onto hongjoong's tightly, lifting it to give him a sweet kiss.

"and i love you, my handsome boy." seonghwa said after he put hongjoong's hand back down to hold onto his thigh.

the boys suddenly pulled up to a beautifully lit up park. hongjoong looked around from the passenger's seat wide eyed at the incredible decorations littered around the trees and benches.

the red and the green tinted lights shined brightly to help get everyone in the christmas spirit. the way the lights twinkled and reflected the colors onto the ground below created a sense of joy in both hongjoong and seonghwa.

"woah, this is so pretty!" hongjoong exclaimed as seonghwa turned off the car and unbuckled his seatbelt. he couldn't stand to be cooped up in the car any longer when there were such beautiful sights to see outside.

"yeah it is, that's why i took you here. christmas is next week and i figured you'd love to see the lights they put up here." seonghwa said as he stepped out of the car. hongjoong quickly followed, running around to the driver's side so he could hold onto seonghwa's warm hand.

"thank you!" hongjoong thanked the boy as they made their way to the main entrance.

the entrance was beautiful, lit up with hundreds of dollars worth of lights and decorations. there was a huge sign on top of the entrance which said 'the night before christmas', the sign lit up in the classic christmas colors of red and green.

"how about we take a picture in front of the sign?" seonghwa suggested and hongjoong vigorously nodded his head up and down.

"yes please! i wanna have memories of this night." hongjoong smiled back, his lips growing a bit dry due to the brisk winter air.

"here, we can take a selfie." seonghwa said as he went into his back pocket to retrieve his cell phone. he opened the camera app and held the phone up high, "ok, say cheese!" he said as he began smiling for the picture.

"cheese!" hongjoong cheered out, his smile so wide that his eyes were practically closed in the picture. seonghwa snapped a few pictures and put down the phone to look at the photos.

"you're so adorable." seonghwa complimented his boyfriend after looking through the pictures he took.

"you're too nice!" hongjoong giggled out as he hid his cold face with his small hands.

"do you mind if i take a picture of you? i want to set you as my lock screen." seonghwa asked his boyfriend kindly.

"of course! only if you let me take one of you for my lock screen afterwards!" hongjoong exclaimed and seonghwa nodded his head in agreement.

"of course you can babe. but i'm going to take it now, smile!" seonghwa put the camera close to hongjoong's face as the boy smiled for the picture. seonghwa clicked the button a few times and then backed away, going through his camera roll to look at the pictures he just took.

"oh my god, i've never seen someone more beautiful in my entire life!" seonghwa praised the younger who was standing beside him. hongjoong hid his face in embarrassment as seonghwa continued complimenting him.

"stop it! let me take your picture now." hongjoong said as he quickly took out his phone and took a few off guard pictures of seonghwa. seonghwa eventually heard the clicks and quickly turned around to stop his boyfriend from taking embarrassing pictures of him.

"joongie, stop it! i'm going to look horrible in those!" seonghwa said as he tried to grab the phone out of hongjoong's hands. much to seonghwa's dismay, hongjoong somehow got out of his grasp and was able to look through the pictures he took without seonghwa's knowledge.

"what do you mean you'll look horrible in these? you look absolutely gorgeous! come on, look at that smile!" hongjoong exclaimed as he turned his phone around to show seonghwa the masterpiece of a photo he took. when seonghwa looked at the picture, he smiled widely in agreement with the boy.

"ok fine, maybe it's not that bad." seonghwa laughed as hongjoong began clicking away on his phone.

"done! you're my lock screen now. i'm sorry harry styles, but you were replaced!" hongjoong giggled as he showed seonghwa his new lockscreen.

"you're so fricken cute, hongjoong." seonghwa said as he leaned down and gave the boy a kiss on the lips, "come on, let's go inside now." seonghwa said as he grabbed onto hongjoong's hand and began leading him through the rest of the lit up park.

hongjoong looked around the park wide eyed. the lights were absolutely magnificent to him; the complementary colors of red and green looking absolutely beautiful together. along with the usual christmas colors, the other purple, pink, orange, yellow, and blue lights littered around the park lit up the pitch black night sky beautifully.

"do you like what you see?" seonghwa asked the boy in his hand with a smile.

"it's so beautiful, i've never been to a christmas show like this before." hongjoong said as he looked up into seonghwa's eyes.

"oh wow, really? my mom would take me every year when i was younger, she loves stuff like this. but i actually haven't been here since i was around thirteen or so, i stopped coming with her and it just turned into an annual date for my parents." seonghwa said and hongjoong gasped in realization.

"maybe it can be an annual date for us too!" hongjoong suggested and seonghwa smiled widely, squeezing hongjoong's hand tightly in his own.

"i love that idea." seonghwa said as they continued on their walk.

across the park were beautifully created displays, explaining different stories as the boys walked through.

one display was of a gingerbread house, decorated cutely with small light up gingerbread men and a bright pathway marked by candy canes. the boys got as many pictures as they could, not wanting to forget a single moment from their night.

there were also other lights and signs around the park, reading cute christmas sayings or displaying the typical christmas characters such as santa and his reindeer or christmas trees and angels all around them.

eventually, the boys reached a beautifully lit up sleigh. hongjoong shrieked in excitement and ran up to the wooden attraction, letting go of seonghwa's hand in the process. seonghwa quickly turned around and ran after the boy, not wanting to leave his side for even a second that evening.

"seongie, oh my gosh! this is so cute. are we allowed to sit inside?" hongjoong asked and seonghwa looked around the attraction to make sure there were no signs that said 'do not sit'. once he realized there were no signs saying he couldn't, he waved the boy to go inside the sleigh.

"it doesn't say you can't, so let's sit!" seonghwa exclaimed and took a seat next to hongjoong after he excitedly entered the sleigh.

once both boys were inside the sleigh, hongjoong lightly rested his head on seonghwa's shoulder. seonghwa smiled widely when he felt the warmth of hongjoong's head on his shoulder, lifting up his hand and rubbing the boy's head in a comforting manner.

"seonghwa, thank you for everything you've ever done for me." hongjoong suddenly said, catching seonghwa off guard.

"awe, thank you so much babe." seonghwa thanked the boy as he moved his arm around hongjoong's waist and held onto his body tightly.

"honestly seongie, i mean it. now i know you messed up many times in the past, but i want to forget it all. i want to forget the mistakes, forget the bad times... just forget it all. i only want to remember the good times we've had together. you really mean the whole world to me, and i thank you for everything you've done." hongjoong said as he lifted his head off of seonghwa's shoulder and looked into his boyfriend's eyes, sniffling a bit due to a mixture of emotions he was feeling and the viciously frigid weather.

"i agree with everything you just said, babe. i think we should forget all the bad times and move on from them. now that we're official, i want to make new memories with you. new stories, new fun times, new adventures... things we will remember years into the future, because you are the only person for me." seonghwa said as he lightly bopped hongjoong's bright red nose with his pointer finger.

"thank you honey." hongjoong said before leaning forward and placing a kiss on seonghwa's frozen lips.

the kiss was deep, but not intense. it was sweet and filled with love rather than lust. seonghwa snaked his hand to the back of hongjoong's neck and held onto him tightly, his other hand resting on hongjoong's thigh as the younger moved his hands to seonghwa's waist.

"i love you so much hongjoong." seonghwa said against hongjoong's lips before returning to their mini public makeout session.

unlike all of the other times hongjoong had kissed seonghwa, hongjoong felt something more this time. seonghwa's 'i love you' hit different, sending shivers down his spine that he had never felt before this night.

what is this feeling inside of me? my stomach, i feel like i'm gonna throw up. the butterflies are multiplying like crazy. my heart is beating out of my chest. do i... do i maybe...?

after both boys backed off each other, they stayed quiet for a few minutes, the silence enough for the both of them. hongjoong looked down into his lap and played with the bottom of his jacket nervously, afraid to meet seonghwa's eyes and admit what he was feeling to the older.

after some time had passed, seonghwa decided to break the silence so they could continue on with their park date.

"joongie, are you ready to g--"

"i love you too, seongie. i love you. i love you so so much." hongjoong interrupted seonghwa mid sentence, looking up from his lap and into seonghwa's deep brown eyes as he officially confessed his love for his boyfriend. seonghwa's blank face quickly turned into a overly joyed one, the smile on his face bright enough to light up the dark winter sky.

"hongjoong, did i hear you correctly? do you really love me?" seonghwa asked for clarification, wanting to make sure his ears weren't deceiving him.

"yes, i mean it. i am in love with you, park seonghwa." hongjoong smiled back as he giggled into his hands.

seonghwa opened his arms widely and hugged his boyfriend tighter than ever before. he embraced the boy, breathing in his scent as he continued the hug.

seonghwa eventually backed off the boy and smiled at him again, quickly leaning in for a quick peck on the lips.

"and i am in love with you, kim hongjoong. i am truly, madly, deeply in love with you. and i'll continue to love you for the rest of my life." seonghwa said as he grabbed onto hongjoong's hand and squeezed them tightly.

"promise?" hongjoong asked with a small smile and a head tilt.

"promise." seonghwa said with a smile before leaning in and giving the boy one last long, sweet kiss.
