Chapter 8
Me - Goodmorning to any of you that might be awake already! <3 I'm just about to order breakfast if anyone would like to join me.
Jin - I have to make sure you eat well. I'll be there in a couple minutes. :)
Yoongi - Too...early... zzz
Jungkook - I was just heading down to the gym to exercise. :(
Tae - Soon
Jimin - Coming! I'm up!
Hoseok - He's only up because I just banged on his door. I'm not bothering Joon though. He could use the extra sleep.
I quickly run over to double check myself in the mirror. I at least was able to tame the bed head out of my locks and wipe the sleep from my eyes. I brush my teeth quickly, just to get rid of the morning breath smell. (I will brush them again after I take my shower and have breakfast.) I look at my clothing and decide the pajamas I wore last night are fine. It's just a pair of lounge pants and an oversized tee so I'm not really worried about them seeing me like this. Oh, but I should put on a bra.
I have just finished clasping it and getting the straps up my shoulders when there is a knock on my door. "Coming, just a minute!" I shout before rearranging my top so I am wearing it properly.
Once I get to the door I quickly fling it open, and I'm surprised to find all of them that confirmed via text standing there, even Yoongi who only replied that it was too early. I can't keep the smile off of my face as I look at each of them. "Come on in!"
I had already glanced at the menu, and I came across a quick realization. I would have to hang up my qualms about carbs rather swiftly while living on the road. There simply wasn't much I could order without bread or potatoes on the menu. I would just have to suck it up and start exercising. Perhaps one of them can be my exercise buddy?
There are only two copies of the menu so we have to share them. I'm not surprised that Jimin and Tae creep into my personal bubble to look over my shoulder. Nor am I surprised that Yoongi and Jin share one between the two of them. I don't think either of them are closing themselves off to me per se. I bet it is only going to take a bit more time for them to be open up with their affections and feelings. Hoseok sits across from the bed at the table by himself. Unlike everyone else he isn't studying a menu. Even though he isn't immediately in my proximity he is still managing to somehow give me butterflies. "Are you not going to order anything, Hoseok?"
"I already know what I want, Daisy-Daze." He responds.
I look him directly in the eye. "Daisy-Daze?"
He shrugs. "I'm trying out a nickname for you." He smirks at me.
"Hmm... Keep trying."
"Buuurn." Jimin mutters behind me and I can't help but laugh at that response.
After a few minutes everyone but me has decided on what they want. I swear I am the worst at making decisions when it comes to food, but I know I am also subconsciously still trying to limit myself to my pseudo diet. It's a habit that will be exceptionally hard to break. "What are you all getting? I can't decide, and maybe if I hear your choices it might make it easier for me to make a decision."
"I love seafood, so I decided to get the crab benedict." Jin smiles softly at me, but Jimin makes a noise of disgust.
"Yuck. Seafood." He mutters.
I shrug. "We each have our own tastes." I turn toward Jin to continue my thought. "I happen to love crab and shrimp. Lobster is okay. But, I hate mollusks." When I see a sea of confused faces I continue explaining, "things like oysters, mussels, and clams." I find myself shrugging again. "Not a fan."
"I know I don't like oysters. Clams are okay. Never had mussels though." Oh, maybe Jin and I can bond over food. It's obvious we have similar tastes regarding seafood at least.
"Hmm. That does look good, but I am not sure I want seafood for breakfast." I turn to Jimin since he voiced his distaste for Jin's choice. "What are you getting?"
"The strawberry banana pancakes."
"Oh, those do sound good. Strawberries are definitely one of my favorite fruits, but I also like watermelon and blackberries too."
"I'm getting strawberries too." Hoseok announces. "I'm getting the Strawberry Nutella Crepes." I can't help but wrinkle my nose at that. Of course he notices it and calls me out on it. "What's with that face?"
I sigh in exasperation at the idea of having to explain this. "You are going to think I am bizarre."
"No, I won't." Then he shakes his head. "Why?"
"Because, I don't like nutella?" I squeak out and it unintentionally comes out as a question.
"How can you not like nutella? It's nutty, chocolatey, spreadable goodness." His expression would be hilarious if I weren't worried that he would think me strange. His eyes are practically bulging out of his head.
"Because, I don't like a lot of chocolate. Don't get me wrong, I do like some chocolate. I am just picky about it." I wait a few minutes for that to sink in and realize I have now shocked him into silence.
He just keeps gawking at my strangeness for almost a minute before he ever responds. "You will have to let me know what chocolate you DO like."
I nod in response. At least he is leaving my weirdness alone...for now. "Tae, what are you ordering?" I didn't notice I abbreviated his name at first until I see his smile spread across his face from ear to ear. I can only gather that he is completely okay with the nickname, not to mention I am pretty sure I saw that the others called him that occasionally on several fan-made compilations.
"Cheese omelette with seasonal vegetables on the side." He tugs on a strand of my hair. "If the vegetables have squash do you want them?"
"Oh, you don't like squash?"
"No, not really." He shakes his head at me.
"Hmm, then if you do get them, and no one else wants them, I will happily take them off your plate." I smile. That agreement has me at least settling on a savory item. I don't often like to mix savory and sweet. The only exception being bacon with pancakes. There is just something about the saltiness of bacon and maple syrup that is just simply yummy. I turn to the only one that has yet to tell me what he wants to order. "What are you going to order, Yoongi?"
"The steak and eggs." He answers simply.
"Oh, yes, a good piece of steak is delicious any time of day. How are you getting your eggs prepared, and what temperature do you like your steak cooked at?" I'm not really trying to get him to open so much as I am truly curious about his answer.
"Bulgogi, a Korean BBQ steak dish, is prepared thinly sliced so it is always well done. I tend to like steaks done a bit more because of this, but I still like a bit of pink. So, I order them medium-well. Eggs I am going to get poached."
His selection made me remember something about the menu. I glance at it again quickly and find what I am looking for. "Your order reminded me of an item I saw on here." I indicate the menu in my hand. "Did you see the steak benedict? It looks like they also put sauteed cremini mushrooms underneath the egg, and it comes with a side of sliced tomatoes."
Yoongi glances at the menu item I was referring to. He tilts his head to the side for a second in consideration. "Yes, I think I will change my order to that. Thank you, Daisy."
I smile warmly at him. "Okay, now to figure out what I want." I glance over the menu again, but this time I limit myself to the savory side. Ooh, I didn't notice that dish before.
"Okay, hand me the phone I am ready to order. Oh wait, what do we want to drink?" They spout off their beverage requests and soon after I am dialing the phone. They watch me as I put in the order, and their expressions are hilarious. They seem to be somehow amazed that I remembered all of their orders in the vast span of time we were talking. Once I get off the phone I glance around me. "What? I was a waitress. I have nearly a photographic memory when it comes to food orders."
Yoongi wrinkles his nose, but I don't think the expression is one of distaste. I think in this case it is confusion, like he is trying to work something out. "What was that you ordered for yourself?"
"A huevos rancheros skillet. It's a Mexican inspired dish. Huevos means eggs in Spanish. Oh, but to clarify, I don't really speak much of the language. I took a couple years in high school but I promptly forgot most of it since then." I pause to see if he wants to know more about my dish, or my lack of ability to speak Spanish. He doesn't say anything so I guess if more questions come up it will be when the food arrives.
"You were a waitress?" Jimin asks seemingly tentatively.
I'm not really sure what prompts the nervousness I see in his expression, but I quickly decide not to make a big deal about it. I nod my head in response. "Yes, and a barista."
"Oh, can you make the fancy cappuccino designs?" Hoseok asks me.
I frown at him. "I wish. The cafe I worked at didn't really specialize in that. We didn't often serve cappuccinos in mugs at all actually. The clientele I usually dealt with were people in a rush and on their way to work. So, cappuccinos were more often filled in insulated paper cups"
"I'm sorry life was so hard for you." Jimin quietly says.
Oh! That's why he was being shy about it! He was thinking of how I had to work so hard and was on my own pretty much since my parent's death. I turn to him and cup his left cheek, just below the soulmate mark, in the palm of my hand. I take a moment to get wrapped up in his warmth and softness of his skin before I respond. "It's okay. Really. I mean my life wasn't easy, but perhaps it was meant to be this way. Of course, I definitely wish my parents never were in that accident." I sigh. "I hope this isn't going to sound cold, but there is a part of me that is glad I couldn't get the serum injection when I turned eighteen after all." They all gasp around me and to keep them from being offended I quickly explain myself. "I don't think that the eighteen year old version of myself would have been ready to have seven soulmates." I don't tack on how I find the idea, even now, a bit daunting.
"You do realize that you wouldn't have had seven at the time of your birthday right?" Hoseok's question is laced with humor, but I am truly not sure what he means. So I arch an eyebrow at him, encouraging him to explain himself. "You would have had six. Jungkookie is at least a couple of months, if not a year younger than you."
I roll my eyes at him, and flat out avoid answering his unspoken question of when my birthday is. "You think that's any less overwhelming?"
There's a knock on the door, thinking it's our food I get up and answer it. Instead of a hotel employee I find a sweat drenched bunny faced maknae. His ears must have been burning since we were just talking about him. "Morning, Daisy." He smiles at me.
"Um." Is it hot in here? "Morning Jungkook."
"Ya! Go clean up! Don't come in here sweating like a pig!" Jin exclaims from his perch. He might be sweating like a pig but he doesn't stink. In fact his sweat just makes him smell more masculine.
A part of me really wants to intervene to keep the two from bickering with each other, but I can't seem to get my mouth to work properly. I bet my expression is similar to the one I saw Candace wearing when she had figured out that BTS were my soulmates. Not to mention the blush I feel blazing on my cheeks. "I was just going to, but I wanted to stop to see if you all had breakfast yet."
I shake my head. "We ordered it, but it hasn't arrived yet."
He pouts for a second. "Okay then, I will have to order for myself I suppose."
I immediately come up with what I think is a great idea. "Oh! Why don't you place the order here, go back take your shower, then come back once you are done. I am sure it won't arrive between now and then."
"I wouldn't be so sure about that." Tae states, smirking up at Jungkook.
"He takes long fifty minute showers." Jin intervenes.
Fifty minute showers? Do I want to know the reason behind that? My cheeks have to be blazing and an even brighter hue now.
"I was going to take a quick one. I promise." I nod without voicing my derailed thoughts then hand him the hotel telephone. He barely glances at the menu before he calls in the order. "I'm going to text Joon-hyung to see if he's up yet. If he is I will send him your way. Maybe he will want to order too."
I nod again, and he walks out the door. My brain still seems to be stuck on the idea of him taking 50 minute showers. It's bouncing between what he might be doing in said showers and mentally picturing water sluicing over his body. I gulp. Yup, my brain needs to stop. Luckily, in the next moment, I am relieved to hear another knock at the door.
I am immediately disappointed to see it's the hotel employee this time after all and not Namjoon. I only hope that he does turn up for breakfast while everybody is still here.
We spread out a bit more so we can each access our plates a bit easier, and don't bump each other's elbows. I have only had a couple bites before Jin gets my attention. "Would you like to try mine, Daisy?"
I didn't originally want seafood for breakfast, but his food does look really good. I shrug my shoulders. "Sure." I expect him to pass me his plate, but he surprises me by holding a forkful out to me. I tentatively take a bite and find myself making appreciative noises to vocalize the deliciousness.
Jimin shudders but seems to be too involved in his pancakes to make a sassy retort. I have to admit those strawberries do look good. "You can have some of my strawberries, Daisy-Daze."
I turn to scowl at Hoseok. "No, and I told you to find a different nickname." I stick my tongue out at him in response. He laughs at my childish behavior, shakes his head, and continues with his meal.
"If I can try your dish I will let you have a few of my strawberries." Jimin offers.
That would be perfectly fine if I didn't add hot sauce to the dish. "Um, it's spicy."
He shrugs nonchalantly. "I like spicy."
The others around me seem to be trying to catch my eye, but I don't know what they are conveying. I hold out a forkful of my eggs to him. After he takes a bite his face briefly registers that he finds the dish delicious. Then just as abruptly his upper lip begins to sweat, and his eyes begin to water. He grabs his glass of water and nearly downs it before he tames the heat. "That was really good, but I would definitely need more water to eat it all."
I am having a hard time controlling my laughter when there is another knock on the door. I'm not surprised to find Jungkook back. The scent of his soap or shampoo makes my mind a bit muddled. He too indicates my meal and asks what it is. I go through my explanation once again and he also asks to try it. "It's spicy."
He smirks at me. Then glances at Jimin. "Is that what you were laughing about just a minute ago? Did Jimin try your food?"
"Uh, yeah."
"Don't worry. I can handle spicy." He smirks at Jimin.
"That's just cruel, Jungkookie." Jimin mutters.
"Doesn't make it any less true," Yoongi intervenes.
Jungkook's food arrives and for a brief moment in time we are all comfortably silent while we finish our plates. Jin and Hoseok gather the plates from those of us who are done. Piling them neatly on the tray. I grab my phone to check the time. It's almost 9:30. I have a half an hour with them until they have to go to practice. Speaking of that though. "Where is your practice going to be held?"
"Downstairs. The managers rented one of the convention rooms out to us." Jin quickly explains.
"Is that typically where you would practice?" I ask out of curiosity.
"Sometimes. Other times we just go to the stadium earlier." Hoseok replies. I nod in understanding. "Did you want to come watch us practice?"
I glance down at what I am wearing. "Not dressed like this, no. Plus I still have to take a shower."
Once the others finish their meal they start cleaning up after themselves and put the trays outside the door. Before they all leave, Hoseok let's me know which room they will be in downstairs so I can just show up when I am finished getting ready.
A/N Sorry not sorry about the Jimin gif. I was between that one and one other where he is sweating from eating spicy ramen. This one won simply because you can see his face better. The tongue? Just consider it an added bonus.
