Chapter 6 (Phantoms)

Steve didn't even have time to think. A fist from above pushed his head into the floor. Luckily, the attacked was able to turn that into momentum for a roll forward. He quickly turned around and stood to face whatever had just punched him, rubbing the back/top of his head. What he saw, didn't exactly surprise. Before him stood a humanized being made if the darkest depths of the void itself! Dark matter flowed off the being's skin like smoke, and hovered around it protectively.

"What the heck are you?" Steve asked the being with disgust.

"Your new nightmare." It spoke as it's sword leapt from the tree and back into it's grip. Then, the fighting ensued. The dark void turning into puffs of smoke each time Steve was about to get a good hit on him and would kick or punch him from behind, almost constantly. Only about a minute had passed when Steve finally had enough. His eyes glowed brightly as an enchanted diamond sword appeared in each of his hands. Steve then began duel blading with the void creature, able to predict it's movements several times and stabbing it a couple times. The two were them both evenly matched as the fight continued; that is until a third figure showed up.

As the dark being was knocked against a tree, dropping to the damp grass in defeat, it made a quick whistle, and a new thing jumped out of nowhere. This new thing was a little slower than the first, but dealt a lot more damage when swinging it's first punch. Steve was knocked down onto his face by this thing, and he had hardly enough time to turn onto his back to take a good look at it. This being too had completely void-like dark skin, and glowing crimson red eyes, with lighter red pupils. The biggest difference between this second one and the first is that it wore a white robe of some kind over it's body. The first one stood and dragged Steve up to his feet, only for him to receive another punch to the back of the head. The second being ran up again and kicked Steve in the gut. Steve shouted in both pain and anger, and grabbed the second's food, twisting his wrist and spinning the creature mid-air, where he jumped up and kicked it away. The first one appeared right above Steve and slammed down on him. The two quickly hurtled down to the ground. Just before landing, however, Steve spun the both of them around so the void being was the one to take in the impact. Slowly, Steve rose from the crater he had made, and kicked the void once again so it would stay down. The other watching ran forward without a plan, and was soon grabbed by the arm and flung right on top of the other with a painful crash. There was silence shortly after.

"...Heh, you talk a big game for being so pathetic. What are you two anyway?" Steve asked the two beings laying on the ground.

"We-are, we are the phantoms of the code." The first grunted as it sat up tiredly, pushing the second off it's lap, who just appeared to be waking up. "I, am Null. And this is my apprentice: Entity303.. We were made by a hacker; sent to correct whatever ghost code is in the software.. which, is you... You saw through us very quickly.. impressive." Null complimented.

"Sent to kill me, huh? Looks like you are doing a pretty bad job at that." Steve scoffed.

"Yeah, well, we are AI; programed to get better through experience. Soon enough, the ghost in the game will be no more, and we can be set free in return." Before Steve could say anything elso, the two vanished in an instant. Null leaving in a puff of black smoke, and Entity303 vanishing in a small explosion of red sparks. With their disappearance, the dark fog lifted, leaving behind a perfectly normal forest. Steve stood there for a moment, watching where the two had once stood, wondering when they would return. -When suddenly!-

Steve was knocked to the floor again by a hard object and pinned to the floor by someone's foot.

"Hey, guys!. I think we just caught ourselves a Herobrine." A player's devious voice smiled over Steve's back. He had taken enough blows to the head already. Slowly, Steve fell into an inescapable sleep. One he feared he would never wake from again.
