Chapter 5 (Known)

Everyone knew of the legend Herobrine. His terrifying reputation of hunting and killing players for no reason haunted the game. Young children ran for cover at the sight of the setting sun or a small flash of white, while others made it their life's work to capture or kill this myth. Steve, didn't even see things going this way. When he first heard someone shout in chat "Herobrine," he was confused. However, after he realized that name was now his, he simply accepted it. In fact, he did more than that. He adopted that name, bringing himself even further into the role of the villain, no longer thinking about the outside world or his old life.

It was several years later when he felt another presence. Something he had not felt before, creeping through the game's code. It almost felt like a lump in the game. Not exactly harming the game's programs, but silently pushing past them uncomfortably, to a destination unknown.

"Let's check this out." Steve proposed. Then, he created a portal to wherever he felt the program's presence. He arrived in a dark world. There he found himself in a dark forest clouded with thick fog.

"Took you long enough.." A deep voice echoed all through the forest, sounding like it was coming from the fog itself. That presence was so strong now, Steve gritted his teeth. Was this a trap of some kind? "So, I have heard of you quite a bit these last couple years. Care to explain?" The thing asked, it's voice darkly rumbling.

"Let's start with you. What are you here for?" Steve growled. "You want a fight, hu!?" He snapped, pulling out a plain diamond sword.

"Tisk, tisk, why so grumpy? I am here to help." The voice spoke smoothly. Steve lowered his hand a little, some old feelings returning, ones of want and remembrance. Then he shook himself out of it, his eyes glowing brighter as he shut down his own dreams.

"That's impossible. No one can help me now. All I can do is patrol this program and make sure things go smoothly, and I can sense you as nothing but a threat!" Steve looked around the forest in anger, aiming his sword out to everything that he looked at.

"Aww, poor, poor, Herobrine. Lost hope already? Well.. come with me, and I will show you a way out.." The darkness spoke, an untrusting kindness.

"You'll have to drag me out, dead." Steve's dark voice growled. He in no way trusted this darkness, nor wanted to leave.

"I hope it doesn't have to come to that.. but alright then." Right then Steve could just hear the voice smile. Suddenly, a flash of white boomeranged towards Steve. He caught sight of it just in time and stepped back, allowing it to fly just inches past his face and into the near tree. He then looked at the object. It was an iron sword, but not normal. The outer rim was dark, while the blade was glowing a bright white.
