CHAPTER TWENTY —
( Goodbye, Speedy. )
────────────────
The elevator doors opened up and Logan and Charles stood on the other side. The sprinklers were on in the kitchen and the two men were soaking wet because of it, with a couple of guards lying unconscious on the ground around them. Peter and Lydia smiled at Charles as he looked at Erik.
"Charles?" Erik asked. Charles stepped forward and punched Erik in the jaw, causing Erik to fall onto the ground. "Good to see you too old friend," Erik groaned as Charles held his now bruised hand. "And walking!" He added.
"No thanks to you," Charles retaliated.
Erik stood up and faced Charles. Logan, Peter and Lydia stood to the side and watched in amusement at the reunion. "You're the last person I expected to see today," Erik said.
"Believe me. I wouldn't be here if I didn't have to," Charles said, glancing slightly at Lydia. "If we get you out of here we do it my way, no killing."
Erik smiled as he pointed to his head. "No helmet. I couldn't disobey you even if I wanted to."
Peter leaned towards Lydia. "Is it just me? Or can you feel the sexual tension between these two?" He whispered.
Lydia leant in to Peter. "I can feel it too," she whispered back.
Charles stepped closer towards Erik and acted in what he thought was a threatening matter. "I'm never getting inside of that head again," he said. "I need your word, Erik."
Erik nodded at him just as the doors on the other side of the kitchen opened up. "Nobody move!" Several guards walked into the room with their guns trained onto the group. "Hold it right there."
"Charles," Erik warned.
"Don't move! Hands up or we will shoot!" The guards said.
"Freeze them, Charles," Erik said.
"I can't," Charles reluctantly said.
Lydia held her hand out and let her magic run through her fingers just as all of the metal objects in the room flew up into the air and the guards fired.
Suddenly, the bullets completely went past their heads and all of the guards were knocked unconscious onto the ground. The four mutants stood still as the scene unfolded, completely gobsmacked. Peter Maximoff stood on the other side of the room, a smirk on his lips.
The group made their way past the mess, thanking Peter as they past him. Lydia smiled lightly as she stopped in front of him. "Good job back there, Speedy. You've earned yourself a high-five." Lydia held her hand up.
Peter grinned as he high-fived her hand and then the two of them walked out.

The drive to the airport was much shorter than the one to the Pentagon, meaning there were less arguments and less time for Peter to say pickup lines to Lydia. They were also all completely squashed in the back seat now with Erik, with Lydia virtually sitting on top of both Erik and Peter.
Once they arrived, Logan and Erik were quick to get onto the plane after bidding Peter a farewell. Everyone thanked Peter because he saved their lives today. Charles felt a bit guilty for not being able to stop the guards and continuously thanked Peter over and over again.
"Peter, thank you very, very much," Charles smiled. "You take care."
Peter and Charles shook hands. "Yeah, I saw your flight plan. Why are you going to Paris?" He asked.
"For a family holiday," Lydia joked.
Charles was slightly taken aback, before smiling at him again. "Thank you, Peter." Charles and Hank started to head off into the plane. "Oh, do me a favour and return it for me," Charles threw his car keys at Peter who caught them.
"Okay," Peter nodded.
"And Peter? Take it slow," Charles smiled as he walked into the plane with Hank trailing after him.
Lydia turned to Peter and smiled. "Considering today I was blinded by your beauty, I'm going to need your phone number for insurance purposes," Peter said.
Lydia rolled her eyes with a laugh and took out a piece of paper from her pocket and a pen. She wrote down her house number and then gave it to him. "I'm bound to not answer for the next week, so don't try," Lydia told him.
Peter held his hand out and gave Lydia a piece of paper. "That's mine." She looked at the number. "Make sure you hit me up," he winked.
Lydia chuckled. "I'll make sure I do."
Lydia hesitated for a second before leaning forward and kissing his cheek. Her lips lingered there for a few seconds before she pulled away. "Goodbye, Speedy."
Peter smiled. "Goodbye, Little Witch."
Lydia smiled back and then walked into the plane, taking a seat near Logan. She looked out of the airplanes window and at Peter who waved at her from his spot in the drivers seat of the car before driving off. Lydia couldn't help the smile that made its way onto her lips, and she looked down at the little note in her hand that contained Peter's phone number with a note saying 'hit me up, gorgeous' before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and putting the paper away.

The flight was awkward for the first twenty minutes. Logan was minding his own business, Erik was spread out on the lounge, and Charles kept glaring at Erik. After Lydia had enough of the awkward glare, she sat in the seat in front of Charles and started a game of chess with him.
Lydia was winning the game of chess as Charles couldn't read her mind to cheat. "How did you lose them?" Erik ended out asking.
"The treatment for my spine effects my DNA," Charles replied easily.
"You sacrificed your power so you could walk?" Erik couldn't believe what he was hearing.
Lydia's shoulders stiffened as she remembered the countless nights where Charles would wake up screaming in agony and pain. "I sacrificed my power so that I could sle...." Charles stopped himself and then looked back down at the chess game. "What do you know about it?"
"I lost my fair share," Erik said through gritted teeth.
"Hah, dry your eyes, Erik. Doesn't justify what you've done," Charles shook his head.
"You have no idea what I've done," Erik said.
"I know that you took some of the things that mean most to me," Charles' voice broke mid sentence.
"Well, maybe you should have fought harder for them," Erik replied.
"Erik," Lydia warned.
"Lydia." Lydia looked over at Logan and he gestured for her to go over to him, so she did.
"Do you want to fight, Erik? I will give you a fight," Charles yelled.
"Sit down!" Logan warned, knowing they need to get along for them to complete the mission.
"Let him come," Erik stood up and held his hand out to stop Logan and Lydia from advancing.
Charles got up and grabbed onto the collar of Erik's shirt. "You abandoned me! You took her away and you abandoned me! Abandoned us!"
"Angel, Azazel, Emma, Banshee," the plane began to shake as Erik began to lose control. Lydia's heart clenched as she realised one of her friends were dead. "Our mutant brothers and sisters...all dead!" The plane suddenly dipped forward and Lydia fell onto Logan, the man catching her instantly. "Captured, experimented on, butchered. Where were you, Charles?" Charles fell onto the couch and began to fall towards the pilots seat. "We were supposed to protect them! Where were you when your own people needed you? Hiding. You and Hank. Pretending you were something you're not!"
Lydia got off of Logan and tried to steady herself. She then held one hand up towards Erik's head and watched as her magic flew out of it and into his head. Erik took a deep breath and then the plane steadied. "You abandoned us all," Erik said more calmer. Lydia collapsed onto the seat besides Logan and sighed in relief, then looked out of the planes window and noticed how close they were to crashing into the ocean.
Charles shook his head and then walked towards the pilots seat, taking a seat besides Hank. "So you were always an asshole," Logan said as he lit up a cigar.
Erik turned around to face him. "I take it we're best buddies in the future."
Logan chuckled. "I spent a lot of years trying to bring you down, Bub."
"How's that work out for you?" Erik asked.
"You're like me," Logan paused for a second. "You're a survivor." Logan took a blow of his cigar, noticing how everything had tumbled to the ground. "Wanna pick all that shit up?"
