Chapter 1

Simon stared at the golden folder in front of him and wondered why the Association would bring it out after ignoring it for so many years.

There's been cases where females and children were getting murdered every week, but the evidence in the folder in front of him had no apparent connections with those cases.

How long had he been staring? Been long for sure. He took a deep breath, while leaning to his chair and relaxed himself. He wondered, what was the purpose of him being a Special Detective?

At first, he was excited to become one, but after a while, he began to question why he was doing it. Was it for fame? Glory? Popularity? Title? Sure, he thought all of those were exciting at first, but now he had everything, why does he still feel empty? Like something is missing.

Growing up, he idolized the Skilled Detectives. Watching as they returned with their trophy, an Enchantress, and parade through the crowds to show off their achievements. The people would then cheer for their Saviour as they were safe for another Enchantress that has the potential to enslave them.

Skilled Detectives were looked up to, they had everything they wanted, and so Simon aspired to be one of them. Hoping that one day, he will make his parents proud and capture each and every one of the Enchantresses.

What are the Enchantresses? Not only they were capable of killing humans, but they can also use them and turn them against each other. They are like Sirens; the only difference is they don't need to sing. A whisper is enough to be able to control dozens of men and women.

When Simon found out that he was immune to Enchantress's enchantments, he quickly gained recognition as he captured them without a sweat. Although after learning what the Association would do to the Enchantresses, his perspective of everything changed and he began to question himself.

Is this even the right thing to do? Why am I still doing this? What's the purpose of everything? Is it even worth it anymore? Maybe I should just retire.

His thoughts were interrupted when his friend suddenly burst into his office, holding a coffee in his hand.

"Bro, have you heard about the new chick in town? I heard she was really pretty! Most of the guys are talking about her!" Juan, his friend, said in excitement.

"Are girls the only thing important to you?" Simon asked while raising his eyebrow.

"Of course! Watch me and learn, I will make that new chick mine!" Juan placed the coffee in front of Simon and grabbed a chair. "You should get one too, you're already 28 years old but you've never had a girlfriend. I can't believe you bro, how could you resist all the temptation?"

"Unlike you, I have better things to do." Simon drank the coffee and sigh.

"Yeah, like being a slave 24/7 and doing all the dirty jobs." Juan said while lowering his tone and saying the sentence in a funny way.

His eyes landed on the golden folder, and he widened his eyes. He gave Simon the look and Simon gave him the nod.

"Is that..." Juan trailed off.

"Yes, yes, it is." Simon confirmed and Juan acted like he was a girl.

"Oh my Gosh! Are you sure?!" Juan squealed and Simon rolled his eyes.

"I told you it is, you can check if you want." Simon slid the folder across, and Juan immediately took it.

Juan opened the golden folder and almost fainted.

"No fucking way! This is ridiculous! I mean, this case has no connection with the murders, but boy those higher ups have wild imagination. Are you going to accept it?" Juan asked and that was the question that's been bugging Simon the most.

Is he going to accept it? Not that the mission is hard, he just needs to capture the most powerful Enchantress that has ever lived.

The rewards are high though, and he will get a promotion if he succeeds, but for what purpose? He already has enough money to be able to buy ten houses, almost everyone in the world knows him and getting promoted only means more work for him.

The only good thing he can benefit from this is getting access to the Red Door, but he had no interest in that or whatsoever. He just wants to go somewhere far away, maybe in Hawaii or Bali and retire there.

Yes, that's probably the best thing to do so he stood up while slamming his hands on the table, causing Juan to jump out of fear.

"I've made up my mind..." He trailed off while taking the golden folder and walked away. "I'm quitting."

"What?! You can't just quit!" Juan ran after him, thinking if he had gone crazy. "You are Simon Fraser, the only Special Detective that can be immune to enchantments! The youngest Detective that caught more than a thousand of Enchantress and becoming one of the richest men on Earth! You know once they set their mind on something, they will do everything to get it right? Which means, you can't quit unless you finish this case."

"I don't care, they can just find another Skilled Detective to solve this. Like what you said earlier, this case has no connection with the murders that's been happening, so why should I waste my time on this?" Simon stated and Juan sighed.

"I don't know bro, blaming the murder cases on this Enchantress doesn't sound right. I mean, this case was written by Jonathan Delario. He was the one who discovered this Enchantress but didn't have any proof that she existed and a week later, he was admitted to the mental hospital for being delusional. Hence why this case was ignored for so many years." Juan explained and Simon looked at the folder.

Could what Jonathan said be true? If it is, if this Enchantress does exist, then the Association will do everything to capture her. Even if it means threatening his family or friends, just so he could accept the case.

Simon prepared himself for the worst, he already contacted his brother, who was taking care of their grandmother, to leave the town and go somewhere safe. If anything, only his friends would be in danger, but he knows they can take care of themselves.

He made his way to the Captain's office with hundreds of scenarios running in his mind on how he's going to quit. He knew damn well that what Juan said was true, that they wouldn't easily let him go now that the case was in his hands.
