Wartime

In 1972, a war broke out between monsters and humans.

The war, later dubbed 'The Dishonest Battle', saw non-magical humans take away monster civilians' weapons and throw them into camps to be taken towards the mountains.

These mountains soon housed the underground population of all monsters living in America. At least, those that survived the initial wipeout of their kind. Magical humans were soon added to this population, as they were deemed traitors to the others.

At the end of the war in 1973, the remaining population of monsters fled to other countries or joined the rest of their kind in the underground home, before it was sealed off with powerful charmed stones created by the government to keep those lost citizens under the surface, never to be seen again.

Restoration Era

After the end of The Dishonest Battle, those underground residents developed homes and towns that expanded throughout the underground. The combined magic of the underground population is what allowed them to remain safe under the surface while they expanded. Soon, a lion family, led by a renowned General, Fitch Dagon, took over as the voted king of the underground. This occurred in 1976, 3 years after the initial war.

This period is often referred to as the 'Restoration Era'. Many monsters suffered many injuries from their time in war, and many families fell apart. Humans that had been forced under the surface were treated harshly by the now majority monster population. Times were very rough, and no currency had been created until the discovery of gold, silver, and other gems. They based much of their value of these findings on what the costs of those products would've been on the surface, creating a rather wealthy economy down below.

The new king had a son named Alexander that same year, who had immediately been arranged to marry a girl not much older than him, soon to be Queen Zira. The young girl was three at the time of his birth.

New laws were put in place, many of which followed those on the surface, as well as newer ones created to protect the minority human population. Peace soon swept across this society, and it seemed things were becoming normal.

Alexander's Reign

In 1984, King Fitch passed on due to a new sickness sweeping the underground population, caused by a lack of sunlight. Idyllic's Dome was created to fix the issue.

With future King Alexander being a young child still, the Royal Court took over ruling the kingdom.

Alexander 'married' Queen Zira in 1986 at the age of ten. It was an unofficial wedding created to give hope to the people as well as properly introduce the two. The two quickly became friends and seemed to have a very strong relationship with one another.

Around this time, one of the many Royal Scientists discovered a way to potentially break the charmed dome over their peaceful little kingdom, and brought the information up to the Royal Court. The Royal Court told the scientist to keep the information to himself for the time being, as it involved the humans, whom many felt too wary of at the time.

In 1992, King Alexander was finally given his place on the throne at the age of sixteen, with plans of marrying his sweetheart (and already arranged marriage candidate) Zira a few months afterwards. It was a big celebration for all of the underground people. While he was the king, the Royal Court still helped the young man with many of the decision-making of the underground.

In 1993, two twin infant human girls were discovered by Queen Zira on one of her daily visits into the nearby city. She immediately took them in. These two girls were named Octavia and Rosetta.

They were seen as a beacon of hope for the underground people of the future. The princesses' bonds with their adoptive parents strengthen human and monster relationships in the underground substantially.

In 1995, Queen Zira and King Alexander gave birth to their first and only biological child, a son named Saphir.

Renaissance Era

In 1998, a tragic accident occurred during an expansion attempt into the cavern walls. Young Princess Rosetta, aged 5, and Queen Zira, aged 25, were crushed under falling debris. Witnesses stated that the young girl had been watching the construction while her mother spoke with her husband. When the rubble started to fall, the queen ran to her daughter to rescue her, but had gotten cornered by the debris, and was soon crushed to death.

This tragedy destroyed the kingdom's spirits for several months as they and their king grieved for the loss of the queen and princess.

The Royal Court finally gave the king information about how to potentially free the underground people after the mourning took place. With the new information, King Alexander launched 'Project Primary' in order to look for certain humans with a specific Soul Trait.. His surviving daughter, Princess Octavia, happened to have one of the needed traits, Aptitude. That left two others; Faith and Willpower.

A young girl had soon been given up to some Royal Guards by a human mother, who begged to be granted the ability to see her child every so often. This was granted to her by the King himself once he got his hands on the young child. This child later transitioned into a boy named Prince James, and his trait was Faith.

Project Primary was put on hold when the only Willpower Soul passed away. Hope for escape died down for a bit until King Alexander remarried to Queen Aradia in 1999. It is believed he remarried to keep his people's minds off of the dying chance of freedom.

He and his new wife had two twin children, Irina and Rosie, in 2000.

The kingdom was able to pick back up to its previous state of happiness before the death of the former queen and princess, with not many monsters wishing for escape at this point.

Freedom

In 2007, a miracle occurred. The final human needed for freedom had fallen from the surface world into the underground. He was a reckless, yet scared human boy named Elijah who had been thrown down by his zealous parents for his magical abilities. He was the Willpower trait.

After being captured, unwillingly, by the Leader of the Royal Guard, Libby, he had been given a specialized stone to enhance his abilities to help free monster kind. He was also given the opportunity to become a prince, but the young boy refused. He did, however, decide to stay with the king and queen, much to the dismay of Queen Aradia.

With all the humans needed for this, the King and several guards went to Idyllic's Dome, climbed up the Skylight Tower, and onto the surface. The humans were then handed a map of the locations of each of the charmed stones. With all three humans using their unique abilities, soon, the barrier between monsters and freedom was broken.

Later that same year, the Dagon Decree had been released, relinquishing certain criminals back out of prison for rehabilitation. This was also dubbed the 'Second Chance Decree' by many of the enthused prisoners-turned-reformed citizens.

Modern Times

In 2010, monsters finally escaped to the surface, as a huge elevator and staircase had to be constructed to guide massive populations of monsters out into the world above. Monsters made their way to nearby cities, scaring the hell out of all the humans they came across. Soon, the United States government got involved, almost threatening to seal up the monsters again, until the surface citizens protested for the freedom of the monsters to remain.

New laws had to be placed, and King Alexander had to relinquish his title as king.

Alexander and Aradia divorced in 2012. It came out the ex-queen had only been with the former king for status, and with there being no need for royalty, their 'love' fell apart.

In 2016, word came out that certain monsters that had previously been dead were somehow alive again. Interviews with these once deceased monsters stated they just remember seeing the outside of Underground Museum, although one couple stated that they remember seeing their eldest son first when they woke up. The government started an investigation into this that led them to a certain someone. This forced that person to destroy what allowed these people to come back before the government got their hands on it.
