【The Afterlife】

"Where We Go When We Die."

Warning

This chapter will contain opinions on the afterlife. Please do not read if you cannot handle the idea of fictional versions of any afterlife. The afterlife in Enchanted Reality is not based on any one religion, please do not take offense to any of this.

Angels and Demons are both capable of reproduction with mortals except the true demise variants, due to the fact they are dead mortals who were not given an actual body.

Judgment

When a mortal dies, their Souls will be sent off to Judgment in Purgatory. Lumin (light) and Sillo (dark) will look at the bad and good things you've done in your life, as well as the context, emotions, and other things involved in it. Depending on how good or bad you were will dictate where you will go and what will happen to you. There are three outcomes from this judgment as follows:

Going to Paradise for a peaceful afterlife as either their mortal Soul, an Angel, or be converted to a Luminombre.
Going to Abyss for a less than pleasant afterlife as either their mortal Soul, purify Soul to a Demon, or be converted to a Sillombre.
Stay in Purgatory if you qualify for rebirth.

Even with the deep analysis of one's life, there are exceptions to every rule. Some sins are absolutely awful and may immediately result in a eons worth of punishments.
Unforgivable actions are as follows:
R*pe
G*nocide
P*dophilia

Paradise

God in Charge: Luam

Paradise is the afterlife created to celebrate the good Souls of the world. Many faded mortal Souls can be found here, but they still look happy nevertheless. You will find many Angels living their day to day lives up here, whether it is the Kokya Angels preparing this week's weather schedule or the deceased Souls of the living (also commonly called Demise Angels) enjoying the many pleasures this heavenly place has to offer. There's even a chance to see a god or two running amuck with their specialized angels, the Elemenus!

Paradise has the perfect accommodations for any singular Soul's belief in the afterlife. The main attraction to this place are the many levels of clouds, mist, water, golden furniture, and specialized crystals made of pure raw magic. Of course, while Paradise itself is perfect in just about every way, the so-called citizens might not all be perfect. Once a Soul is allowed through towards Paradise, they do not go through a purification process in the same way a Demon would. They can maintain all their memories, and can often resort to becoming evil. When an Angel or mortal Soul becomes too evil, they are then set up to go to Purgatory for rebirth or to change to becoming a Demon.

Paradise is only for those willing to keep being the best they can be, even those who are immortal and were born into this lifestyle. There are many different Angel species, all revolving around the 7 Deadly Sins. Each of them were created based on the common sins of mortals (and gods alike), and many of them can see mortals joining their ranks if they fit the criteria. Whether you're someone who may have been incredibly bad turned good or someone with the right skillset, not just anyone can be given the opportunity to become a part of these specialized Angels. Many mortals just become Demise Angels, which are just their Earthly forms given angelic features (wings, translucent skin, faint halos, etc.)

Seven Deadly Angels

Kokya - Pride
"Weatherbirds"
These angels take on markings similar to birds from Earth and have brightly colored eyes. These angels will have symbol markings on their bodies, symbolizing their specific role in the weather cycle. Those with the lightning symbol control electrical particles. Those with the swirl symbol control wind currents. Those with the three slanted lines control water particles. Those with the sun symbol clear the skies. Those with the cloud symbol leads where the clouds go. Those with no symbols don't have a job or are allowed to live among mortals.

Hachio - Sloth
"Flutterby"
These angels have pale bodies, no legs, and brightly colored external bodies. They have large white eyes with their third eye being just about any color in general. These angels are often used to deliver Prophecies and grant the gods access to seeing the mortal world without visiting it themselves.

Succubys - Lust
"Wingless"
These angels appear very human in just about every way besides their symbols, sharp teeth, and multiple ears. These angels are thought to be wingless, but can actually summon wings with two little circles on their backs. Their midsections are transparent. These angels carry out different jobs, which you can tell from their symbols. Hearts give comfort to deceased Souls struggling to understand their death. Diamonds are usually servants for the gods or other angels, but can also give magic to mortals. Clubs are the healers. Spades help with combat and sending messages.

Gorsua - Envy
"Masked Ones"
These angels are very delicate in nature and are muted with their color schemes. They are constantly wearing a mask to cover up their one eye, which many of them feel embarrassed by. Their wings are based off of real life butterfly wings. These angels are demon ambassadors/communicators and entertainers.

Christallum - Wrath
"Jeweled Warriors"
These angels are very big and very strong looking, with up to six wings on their backs. They have four eyes and are covered with jewels in their chest and calf areas. These angels are very strong and are said to have no emotion, which isn't completely true. Many of these angels have visible transparent spots where they may have been hit. They're usually white, blue, or gold, but other colors can exist. These angels are guardians and fighters.

Pyxe - Greed
"Busy Bees"
These angels are about as tall as a ten year old child with insect-like features, such as antenne, multiple limbs, and big eyes. They also have sharp teeth. They come in any color. These angels are responsible for counting souls in Paradise for Death.

Ninbasu - Gluttony
"Dreamers"
These angels are weakened versions of New Moon's abilities, so they aren't physically there like the other angels. However, they do a pretty important job, which is helping out New Moon with dream keeping and eating nightmares. They have dark bodies with galaxy themed appendages. The symbol on their heads represent their ages. The circle is a baby, the sparkle is a kid/teen, the star is an adult, and the dot is an elder.

Abyss

God in Charge: Kia

Abyss is the afterlife created to give troubled Souls a second chance of sorts or for punishment. It heavily depends on what they have done in life, and if they do deserve to go through a purification process to eventually be reborn. You may find a couple of demons running around, such as a Gorsua demon looking for their employer's lost hat or the many eyes of the Hachio demon watching over you. This place may not be the inferno hellscape many people would have you believe, but it's not entirely comfortable either. The place spirals down further and further, endlessly it seems. The entire atmosphere is very cool with its color scheme, with some small pops of reds here and there. The further down one goes though, the hotter and warmer in color it'll start to get. There are still some crystals down here, as well as golden accents, especially close to the residing god over the realm. If a demon happens to be down here with no punishment to their Soul, they are allowed to roam around and just live life in the afterlife. They are often befriended by the born residents and can usually be fairly comfortable within this realm. However, for those here to be punished, they are cast down from the highest layers of the Abyss into the hottest part of this afterlife plane, and forced to endure punishments from trained demon punishers.

A purified demon tends to end up with no memories of their previous life, which allows them a perfectly clean slate to build up their morals again before being reborn as a normal mortal (or even sillombre, if they so choose). Those who aren't purified nor on the list to be reborn retain memories, and can eventually ascend to angelhood for being good in the same way an angel can fall to demonhood for being bad. The Abyss is not meant to be a punishment for every Soul that ends up down there, and just offers another chance at life while allowing them to 'live'.

Like Paradise, there are many different demon types. We have the main 7, which are based on the heavenly virtues. Most of them happen to be mortals who've been purified and have decided to remain as demons. For demise demons, they just appear as their mortal forms with horns, translucent skin, and a tail, like the demise angels.

Seven Heavenly Virtues

Kokya - Humility
"Letterbats"
These demons have very natural color schemes with unnatural features, like the wings on their arms and the neck floof. They're messengers for the gods, demons, angels, and even mortals.

Hachio - Diligence
"Tineids"
These demons are incredibly dark in color to help them blend into the dark surrounds of Abyss. They have a very brightly colored eye that carries over into the duplicate eyes they can make. These demons have multiple arms and their wings are based off of moth wings. They're basically living security systems.

Succubys - Chastity
"Bunnies"
These demons are unnatural in color and have symbols very similar to their angel counterparts. In fact, just like their angel counterparts, their symbols represent the exact same thing. Hearts give comfort to deceased Souls struggling to understand their death. Diamonds are usually servants for the gods or other angels, but can also give magic to mortals. Clubs are the healers. Spades help with combat and sending messages.

Gorsua - Kindness
"Unisatyrs"
These demons are delicate like their angel counterparts, and are very soft with their color schemes. They tend to take on roles of servitude, gardening, healing, and stuff like that. They're blind, so they rely on help from their magic and other senses.

Christallum - Patience
"Jeweled Satyrs"
These demons look very similar to Gorsua demons, so they're often seen together. These demons can take on just about any color, and are usually angel ambassadors. They are also greeters for new Souls entering Abyss.

Pyxe - Charity
"Busy Bees"
These demons look very similar to their angel counterparts, and are responsible for the same things their angel counterparts are.

Ninbasu - Gluttony
"Dreamers"
These demons are weakened versions of New Moon's abilities, so they aren't physically there like the other demons.

Purgatory

Gods in Charge: Sillo and Lumin

Purgatory is unique as it's more like a library than it is a town or landscape. It's very dark aside from the light that emits from Lumin and her light orbs. These two gods are the only living inhabitants of this realm, aside from their Elemenu angels. Or, Lumin's Elemnu angel in the modern day. These two gods are relatively friendly to mortals and are responsible for judging one's very Soul. If you've been perfectly neutral or are qualified for rebirth, then these two gods store your Soul in a jar-like container, and send it off to Death, who then sends it to the other gods who will work together and create a new body for the Soul.

The library itself holds both the containers of mortal Souls and books of every single living being to have ever existed. It's always growing, but no mortal will ever get a proper chance to see the ends of it like a god or any other immortal could.

Death and His Army

Army Leader: Demise

Demise is a replacement god for the previous god of death, Fla'awe. He was once a mortal human who had a unique fondness for the afterlife and death itself. Idyllic chose him because he didn't hate life itself and she hoped he'd make a good replacement. However, as mortal populations continue to rise and new places are being lived in, he had to receive help. So, he started to recruit other 'deaths' to help him collect Souls and bring them to Purgatory. These 'death helpers' are often referred to as Reapers, and look like their old Earthly counterparts with both angelic and demonic features added on. Many choose to wear skull masks like their leader, which is what gives us the iconic image of Death being a skeleton.

Overtime, these Reapers were divided up and worked in teams based on regions, types of mortals (long living mortals, humans, monsters, animals, etc.), ages, cause of deaths, and much more. There are so many Reapers now that Demise really doesn't have to do much of anything. It's often said if you see him, you're very lucky, as he no longer works on reaping Souls himself. He's become the face of death, a leader, the carrier of Souls to be reborn, and is often seen in dreams when people are close to dying.
