Practice, Betrayal and Abandoned Children

Yeosang woke up with a gasp. His body was covered in a cold sweat, still shivering from what he saw in his sleep. The intruding guards were dead—a horrifying death at the hands of their own prince. He opened the window of his room, letting the cold night breeze in to soothe the aching headache he felt as soon as he opened his eyes.

"Yeosang?" Wooyoung groaned from his bed, his eyes opening into narrow slits. "Are you okay?" The shadow bender nodded his head, leaving the room to get some fresh air on the dock. He let the moon rays embrace him, wrapping him up in a comfortable blanket. It wasn't uncommon for him to get these visions. Usually, they were about an oncoming storm or something related to one of the villagers—nothing too serious. But the scene that he saw in front of him this time was horrendous. He still heard the screams of the three guards echo in the large hall. He saw the man, eyes cold silver, grip onto their skulls before their eyes rolled back till he could only see the whites, and then red when their blood trickled down their faces. He shivered, feeling a sense of doom grip his chest.

"What are you doing here?" He turned towards the source of the sound, watching as Sky approached him with a smile. He shook his head, telling her he just came up to get some fresh air.

"Why are you here?" He asked, curiously eyeing the bucket she held in one hand.

"Stupid Hongjoong is teaching me how to do a difficult move. But the only way he could explain is to tell me to 'imagine being one with the water." She spoke in a whispery voice, "Whatever that means." Yeosang chuckled, amused by the rambling Sky as she tried to figure out how she'd get the water from the ocean.

"Allow me." He took the bucket, wrapped a shadow around its handle, and let it dip into the ocean. "Here." He put the bucket down in its usual position, where the two practised. He watched Sky pull the water up, forming it into a thin whip, and then attempt to strike the targets. Her movements were perfect. The water whip was pretty impressive too, but as soon as it was about to hit the target, it lost its form. Sky groaned, collecting the water back into the bucket. She tried once again, and the same thing happened. The water just didn't want to listen.

"Uh, I'm never going to nail this!" She finally fell to her knees, clutching her head in her hands. She let out a groan of frustration.

"Hey now! Let's not lose hope so soon." He sat down in front of the girl, who was wallowing in defeat. "If you don't mind, I could help you with your practice." He offered, deeming a distraction much needed after what he saw.

"Really? You'll do that?" Her whole face lit up, eyes finding a new shine at the offer he proposed.

"Of course." He nodded. "I've watched Hongjoong and the others practise their bending a lot, so I know the small nuances of their moves." He smiled proudly at his claim, pulling the princess up with him. "Now," he said, standing next to her in front of the targets. "Show me what you've got."

Yeosang was an excellent teacher, Sky concluded. He pointed out all her bad habits and gave tips and tricks to make certain moves better. In fact, he might be the best teacher she ever had. All offence intended for her teachers back in the palace. She showed him the whip move, moving and bending the water exactly as Hongjoong had instructed, but the water lost its form again when it reached the target. "It's your wrist," Yeosang said. "Your wrist is stiff when you launch the whip." He explained. "Watch carefully," He procured his own shadow whip, imitating the movements Sky had shown him a few moments ago, but when he prepared to strike a target, he flicked his wrist slightly, and the whip hit the mark with a loud crack. "See, easy!" He smiled at the baffled princess, who once again procured a water whip, moving it expertly before nearing the target, this time flicking her wrist just like Yeosang. The whip snapped against the target, making a large crack sound at the impact.

"I did it!" She looked at the shadow bender in amazement, squealing as she jumped around before making another whip and hitting it against the target. The loud crack felt like music to her ears. "I did it!" She hopped around the deck a bit before putting her arms around Yeosang's waist and bringing him in for a hug. "Thank you." She mumbled into his chest.

"Y-you're welcome." Yeosang hoped that Sky didn't catch the deep pink blush that bloomed all over his face and ears. He looked down to meet eyes with the grinning princess; her face shone under the moonlight, as clear as the lake the fawn led them to. This was another side of the calm and collected Sky he was discovering. He was the first person to see her like this. The bubbly and cheerful girl that no one got to see. Yeosang felt something warm bloom in his chest at the thought of it. His arms tightened around her shoulders slightly as he gazed deeply into her warm, dark brown eyes in comfortable silence.

"Ew, love." Mingi broke the peace, looking at the two with a judgmental face and a cup of water in his hand.

"You just had to ruin the moment!" Yunho's hand landed right at the back of Mingi's head, slapping it so hard that the man lost his balance on impact.

"What are you two doing here?" Yeosang asked, reluctantly breaking the hug with Sky. He was already starting to hate the feeling of the cold air on his skin.

"Got sick. Came for fresh air," was all Mingi answered before running to the edge of the deck and leaning over the rails to empty his insides.

"Don't mind us, though. Carry on with whatever you lovebirds were doing." Their eyes widened in horror at what Yunho said, hurriedly explaining that "it wasn't anything like that" and "it's not what they think," but alas, they saw what they saw and refused to believe anything the two said.

"I'm telling you, we were just practising water magic!" Sky groaned, her head already pulsing with anger at the sight of Mingi's shit-eating grin.

"Yeah, sure, Sky. I totally believe you." He said it sarcastically. "What form of bending was that? Back bending?" Sky frowned, not quite understanding what he implied, before realisation dawned upon her, much like the deep blush that spread all over her cheeks, and she screamed and lunged to kill her best friend. He had been gracing the earth with his stupidity for far too long anyway. Mingi cackled, running around the deck before finding a safe space behind Yeosang, who watched on as Sky tried to grab the firebender.

"You know," Yeosang felt a hand on his shoulder, "you could do a lot better than her." Mingi scanned the huffing girl with narrowed eyes. Sky rolled her eyes, scoffing at the absurdity that came out of the ombre-haired, penguin-looking idiot's face. "What happened to you, though? I thought you had your eyes set on Seonghwa." Sky screamed, embarrassed that her weird infatuation had been revealed in front of everyone.

"Wait, really?" As if the situation couldn't get any worse, in came Seonghwa and Hongjoong. Sky prayed to the universe to send a flood and bury her at the bottom of the sea.

"She was eyeing you like you were the last piece of candy in a room full of kids. How did you not notice?" Seonghwa couldn't help the smile that spread across his face, looking at Sky for confirmation, who just groaned and hid her face behind her hands.

"I was just about ready to bless you two's marriage and retire to some secluded corner of the earth, but I come up the deck, and what do I see?" Mingi dramatically pointed at Yeosang and Sky, who stood in mirroring poses with their nose bridges pinched between their fingers. "These two smushing booties." Seonghwa gasped.

"Seriously, Sky. How could you do this to me?" She groaned. Great! Now Seonghwa would bully her too.

"Guys, seriously, we were doing nothing of that sort."

"What about the baby?" Sky choked on her own spit, watching Seonghwa pout and rub his belly.

"Wha-"

"That's right. I am pregnant." Seonghwa shoved his finger near Sky's face, still clutching his stomach with his other hand. She was pretty sure one giant wave was all it would take for him to poke her eye out. "And you're the father."

"You're carrying our baby?" She decided to abandon sanity once and for all. She could only take so much.

"That's right, and they're twins," Seonghwa added, with a chorus of gasps following his words.

"Oh, my baby." She lunged towards Seonghwa, hugging him tightly and then breaking away dramatically. "Have you thought about their names?" Seonghwa nodded, desperately trying to hold in his laugh.

"One is Ah, and the other one is Choo."

"Ah-Choo?" Someone said.

"Bless you." Seonghwa and Sky chimed together, looking at each other with eyes widened in surprise.

"Alright, I've had enough." Hongjoong walked out, yawning all the way back to his room.

I have only one thing to say- I forgot. I have zero motivation these days.
