00. prologue
EMMA never believed happy in endings. She just never believed they could happen to her. Her sorry excuse for a father made sure she'd remember that. The only other time other than finding out she was a match for Seattle Grace for her intern year was getting into med school.
Maybe she did once but it seemed like a lifetime ago that it seemed as though it was nothing more than a dream. A really good dream.
She had to grow up fast, instead of enjoying her teenage years like most teens did.
It was a beautiful warm night in the summer in Clearwater, Florida. With humidity it felt like one-hundred degrees earlier in the day. Her mom, Stacy, was fighting until her last breath. Until she couldn't fight anymore. It was a car accident along with a hit and run. They never found the person who killed her mom. Based on the evidence it was clear the driver ran a red light and both her mom and the other drunk driver died almost on impact.
Her mom was her best friend and the sweetest person she knew.
When she passed away, it was like her whole world changed and not for the better. Her dad was always a narcissist, but it seemed to be worse even after her mom's passing. Death changes people. Sometimes for better and sometimes for worse.
Why did good people have to die so young?
Obviously everyone died at some point but it seemed like the good died young and the horrible, awful people lived to be in their nineties. Emma never understood it. She shook her head at the thought as she drove up to her new apartment. She needed a new change in scenery. If her mom was still alive, she would have been happy for her and maybe even divorced her dad, and drove with her to be her roommate. Emma would have done anything for her mom if it meant for her happiness.
Since Emma was an only child, she only had her mom to talk with about her dad's behavior. And even though she came from a middle class family who could afford therapists, her mom chose not to see one. She was afraid that her husband would be arrested but that didn't sound too bad to the young girl who had to put up with her dad's shit.
When Emma got the call that she had been accepted into the intern program at Seattle Grace Hospital, ecstatic wasn't even the word that begin to describe how she felt. Since everything that happened after her mom passed away, this was the most proud she felt of herself in such a long time.
The night before her big first day of work was also the hardest day ever. It was the night her mom was killed in that car crash and where does she end up? Emerald City Bar.
"I'll take four shots of tequila with four limes please," she tells the man behind the bar who was the server and he raises his eyebrows.
"You sure, kid?" Joe asks the red head. "That's an awful lot. Can I see an I.D.?"
"Is it because I don't look my age?" Emma whined a bit but pulled it out anyway and showed him as he looked at it under the light. "I swear I look older with makeup."
"Your good," he handed it back to her. "Nothing wrong with looking young. So what's your story?"
And so he told her as he made her tequila shots and he was a good listener. It wasn't until a man with dark brown hair and dreamy ocean blue eyes came and sat next to her that her life would change forever.

First chapter is up! Just wanted to let you guys know the chapters will be longer. But I wanted to get this up as a little back story on Emma and her history.
I need a vote - do you guys want original chapters that still follow the surgeries they perform?
OR
Do you want it to be like my Austria fanfic where I still have the same storyline in the chapters but I add to my characters storyline in it to make it a little original?
Please leave your votes as they will help me so much in writing this.
