PIVOT
"Curve your wrist more! No, no pivot! I said PIVOT" Mr.Coba demands. I take another step in a crouched position, curving my wrist and then pivoting on my left foot and bad ankle-with much struggle. Ever since I got released from the infirmary its been nothing but strict training and crappy food.
"Enough. ENOUGH"
Mr.Coba shuffles over, his face friendlier then his words.
"8 hours a week, training. In your own time"
I groan half heartedly. God knows I need it, Killijan beat me last fight. I rub the back of my neck and Coba's hand shoots out. I duck on impulse and roll. I land on my back and send a gust with the flick of my fingers. He rolls his hand in a half circle and diminishes my air gust. I stand, gasping for air. He gives me a small smile and walks away. I heave myself out of the training room, my rib throbs from my fabulous roll. I give a grunt and lean against the wall.
"Roan? You okay?" A voice calls. I turn my head to see a blue haired roommate.
"Yeah I'm fine" I manage to mutter. Zeris cocks an eyebrow and forces me into a piggyback. I giggle as he zooms through the halls. His hair is blue with black roots showing. It smells like seashells and wet sand, but all of him does so its not creepy for me to notice. He skids on a corner and I almost go flying, clutching his chest for support. I release my grip a bit, assuming that's why he stopped laughing. A scream escapes from my throat as he lunges into a rather large pool of water. I didn't notice we had taken the right turn instead of the left. My scream is muffled by water spilling into my mouth. I flail my legs out and curse Zeris. I feel arms on my shoulders and then air on my face. Zeris peers his eyes over the surface of the water. I slash his head and slam it the rest of the way in. I take hold of the rocky side and heave myself up. My hair is sopping and I wish he'd given me time to put it up before trying to drown me.
"Come on" He complains.
"I don't want to go back to my homework yet" He adds. I slide my sweater of my shoulders and take off my shoes. I lift my white shirt over my head to reveal a white and grey tank top. Zeris doesn't even flinch at the movement, just excitedly swirls a ball of water in his hand, glad I'm not making him do homework. My tank top clings to my chest-making me uncomfortable. When I slide back in Zeris is shirtless.
"Can you swim?" He ponders to me. I shake my head and he notices me hands hovering centimeters over the water. He splashed the dark water at me. My laugh echoes off of the stone wall.
"Come on" He gestures, while glancing around wearily. I follow curiously. He points to a large hole in the side of the wall, hidden under the murky water. I swallow hard.
"I'm not going in there"
"Theres air in there so you can still breathe, just relax" He reassures. He gestured for me to go first. If his eyes didn't look so friendly then I wouldn't be ducking under the water and pulling myself in. It takes me away immediately. Swishing me down into nothingness. Zeris was right-theres a few inches of air from the top of the tunnel to the water. It steepens which takes me faster. I crane my neck behind me to see Zeris on his stomach. Fear strikes me when the water gives out to the end of the tunnel. I freeze in midair for what feels like etirnity. The air raises goosebumps on my bare arms and legs, making me feel chilled and exposed. I'm drawn to the depths of the dark water.
Suddenly the waves wash over my whole body and I'm glad I can taste nothing but the saltiness in my mouth and the bubbles erupting from my nose. I feel a delicate hand on my shoulder and rise with it. I don't bother to wipe droplets from my eyes. They hang on Zeris's long black eyelashes. I'm inches away from his pale face. His lips a slight shade of blue. I pry my eyes away from his to examine my surroundings. The arched clay walls of the cave are jagged and dip occasionally. There's white bubbles floating about from the waterfall caused from the tunnel. Rippling shades of pink and orange cascade against the dark waters, reflecting from pin pricked jewels on the ceiling. The water seems as if it goes on forever but I can still feel the walls pushing me closer to Zeris.
"Your a natural" He comments a smile playing on his lips. I realize my legs churn underneath the water, keeping me afloat.
"Come on" He says, his voice in more then a whisper. I let him lead me to the bank. The ground is the same jeweled orange as the ceiling. He walks with his head high, taking big breathes. Magic seems to spark around the room and dance on the water. Zeris sits with his feet dangling in the water. I copy him and are elbows touch, sending shivers up my spine. He points to the bank across from us. Long seal-like creature dive with grace into the water when they're large black eyes spot us. They're skin is dark chocolatey brown and they have whiskers dotting they're rounded muzzles. Two long strands attach on either side of corner of their eye, arguably catfish like. They wave their flippers toward us and bark their way in between me and the water weilder. Drops of water slide down their skin as they stare into my eyes. I raise my hand and stroke ones neck. It gives a purr and leans into me. I giggle in delight.
"What are they?" I ask.
I barley catch his mumbles response. The water calls my name with each passing wave. I give an unstoppable leap and dive head first. I feel the heartbeats of many others, floating next to me. They give me stares, like they're trying to disect me with their pupil-less eyes. Others send of a silent understanding, which I respect. The water is heavy on every inch of my body, but it makes me feel protected-like when Aussie always on me. I feel Zeris's hand slide into mine, giving me another round of shudders. We find ourselves at the surface and the water laps over us. I can see his dark ocean coloured irises, even though his eyes are small and pointed. We stare at each other for what seems like a peaceful eternity. Slowly, he brings his face closer to mine. Shivers rush up my spine. His lips are soft and cold.
He tastes like mango. Our lips part so we can breath. Our foreheads rest on each others. He has his hands on the small of my back, keeping us both afloat. My fingers intertwine with his hair and he gives a soft chuckle. He leans back in and I feel happy.
I
like him more them I thought I did, or maybe it's the magic in the air.
