Song: Talking to the Moon x Bruno Mars
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
I fell into a deep slumber after Angelo's information about the poison that almost killed me. There were too many problems, too many confusion that my body succumbed to its desire to sleep and rest.
I can finally lie down on my back which I was thankful for Angelo for. In my slumber, I wasn't visited with any nightmares or any type of dream at all. For a moment, I was able to sleep in the midst of the fear and chaos that took over my life the past few months.
Once I opened my eyes, I found Angelo sleeping peacefully to my side, his arms cradling his head as he slept close to my arm.
I touched the soft curls on his head, feeling the silkiness of each strand. My heart ached every time I see him. I didn't want to admit it, but perhaps I was still in love with him.
He yelped and woke up with a jolt when he felt my hand running through his hair.
"You're awake." he smiled warmly, taking my hand to his.
"How are you feeling?" he asked me.
"I feel weak." I admitted to him, looking away. Weak for even thinking that I might still be in love with him. Weak for being so stupid that I got myself hurt and had to rely on him to take care of me.
"It's normal to feel that way, you almost died." he informed me before looking down.
"I don't know what I would do if I lost you." he added.
I didn't answer him because I had trouble trusting his words again. I haven't forgotten why he chose the job and betrayed his own brother to be my guardian angel. He wanted to be a part of the Angel Council. I was just a way for him to achieve his goal.
Sitting up from the sea of soft pillows, I rested my aching back against the headboard of the king size bed.
"Spare me the lies, Angelo." I said to him.
He gave me a hurtful gaze and all of a sudden, I felt guilty for being petty.
"Thank you for saving my life, but I don't want to hear any more lies about you 'caring' about me." I added.
Angelo sat on the bed causing it to dip. He extended his hand to touch my face, his thumb caressing my pasty skin softly.
I enjoyed his touch but I can no longer afford to make the same mistake and get hurt in the end again. Tilting my face away, I asked him about the information he had about the poison that entered my body.
"Was the poison really from the Nether Realm?" I asked him. "How did Medio Terrae get a hold of this?"
Angelo sighed, knowing that I changed the subject from our relationship to the matter in our hands.
"I have my suspicions," he said rubbing his jaw with the palm of his hand, "but I don't want to make accusations too quickly—"
"You mean, you think that Daemon had something to do with the attack and how they found out about the safe house so quickly?" I interrupted him.
Angelo hesitated before answering. "There is a high chance that he had something to do with it."
I let his answer sink in. Now that I think about it, everything seems to be pointed towards Daemon at the moment. He had the motive to have us attacked and the poison is from the Nether Realm. I tried to put the pieces on why Daemon has something to do with it but it didn't make sense.
I recalled the last time he and I talked. He showed me the onyx headstone that had his name etched permanently. My heart ached when I remembered his desire to be human for me, way before we even met and before he created the dangerous game that took one of my best friends.
He had his shortcomings, but I didn't believe that he would hurt me.
I sighed. There was only a week left before my 18th birthday and the choice between Angelo and Daemon wasn't evident.
Pulling me from my thoughts, Angelo lifted my chin to face him, his warm hazel eyes hopeful and caring. Tilting his head to the side his lips captured mine into a passionate kiss. As he kissed me, I had the sinking feeling that there was someone watching us from the shadows.
Daemon's POV
He waited in the living room impatiently as he paced across to and from the cramped space. If he had his way he would be inside Celeste's room taking care of her. She still had his mark and he knew that her body would willingly accept his healing powers.
Her friends were not helping with the migraine that throbbed inside his skull. They were whimpering idiots that get scared too easily and it was a shock that most of them even survived his game. Daemon imagined ways on how he can torture Celeste's friends once he had his way and after he killed the entire clan of Medio Terrae.
But he knew deep down he couldn't harm her friends or anyone easily.
It was all because of her.
Celeste.
The light of his life.
She was the beacon that pulled the king of darkness himself out into the light. Whenever he was with her, Daemon finds himself suppressing his evil tendencies.
Although Angelo hasn't called him to enter Celeste's room, he found himself walking to her door. After all, he is Daemon, the king of the entire Nether Realm. He wouldn't let a simple guardian angel like his brother tell him what to do.
He walked down the hallway, his thoughts racing in his manipulative mind. Daemon wanted to win Celeste over and he knew that in order for that to happen, he was going to return her soul as well as her friend's and her father's.
He would free her from the dangerous deal he put through.
He would prove to her that he was willing to change for her.
In hopes that she would choose and love him when the time comes for her to decide between him and Angelo.
The polished door was cracked open and Daemon heard pieces of Celeste's and Angelo's conversation. He melted into the darkness and became one with the shadows to surprise her with his offer once he kicked out his brother.
What surprised him the most was when Angelo kissed the woman Daemon loves. Daemon waited for Celeste to push Angelo away and to tell him that she loves Daemon now.
He waited for her for so long that Daemon knew he could afford a few more minutes for Celeste to realize that she loved him too.
Daemon waited, but Celeste never said the three words he yearned to hear from her soft lips.
He didn't want to see more as he saw Celeste kiss Angelo back. Slithering across the shadows of the ceiling, he made his way outside the room before morphing back to his human form.
Of course Celeste still loved Angelo, he thought disappointedly.
And for a moment, he was willing to sacrifice his true being for her. But after seeing Celeste and Angelo together in the room, Daemon remembered who he is.
He is the king of the Nether Realm and the king of all demons. He is heartless, ruthless, manipulative, and just plain evil.
So why would she love a monster like him?
